I've mostly moved away from music that includes vocals. It's much more universal and the lyrics of most German music - especially what they play on radio - is totally "washed down" and softened. It must make most German music seem like whiny crap to outsiders. Somehow most of those tunes seem to come from the same can.
well around 2010; german pop was really nice. As time went on, not only german rap went popular but also mark forster. Hes the main reason for german pop considerd lame.
I'm a German and these songs were so hyped in my Childhood/Teenage years but you really need to listen to them longer than 5 seconds, most times it's not even the refrain nor the best part and you really have to read the lyrics! It's amazing, you won't regret it, I promise😇
It was good pre-2010. I mean it was the best in the 80s, it has been on a constant decline, the only thing in Germany that never was in decline was Rock and Metal. In the old days it was Blind Guardian, and these days although they're getting really old now, is Rammstein. Can't still believe that Till is 60 years old. I mean, Rammstein begun in the 90s but still, time flies.
@@livedandletdie Well, Rock and Metal I wouldn't really call Pop Music. Pop is the Top 40 stuff, that gets played on the radio in a endless loop. In the past, there has always been a lot of junk in it, but at least a few songs here and there were not too bad. But then came Rap, as the video shows. 10 minutes work on a PC, a rented Lambo and a few dance dolls, and ready is the next hit song.
Nah not everyone. Speak for yourself. This music was always trash to me and Sido in the beginning was a gross ghetto dummy. Classic child of Berlin circumstances. I always knew Music stopped being magic after the 80s and I wasnt even alive back then.
I laughed so hard as he noticed the scene where the girl made a line out of the white stuff. Fun Fact: its indeed supposed to be what y’all think it is. They even mentioned it in the song: „Willst su mit mir Drogen nehmen?“ translates into „Do you want to take drugs with me?“
@@panthusiast8472I mean... He sings "it will be romantic I'll hold you so you don't vomit on the toilet seat" it's kinda obvious if you listen to the lyrics :D
Alligatoah 08:10 is a satirical songwriter. He writes songs about taboo topics and uses his songs to talk about critical topics. In one song, he even was satirical about himself, it's called "Musik ist keine Lösung" (music is no resolution).
Ich würd sogar sagen, dass er der künstlerisch begabteste Artist ist, den wir in den 10er Jahren hatten. Songs wie Mein Gott hat den längsten, Vor Gericht oder eben Willst du sind einfach Banger.

some people, especially younger people, might disagree but sido is pretty much the biggest rapper in germany. while he not always has been the most popular hes been around since the 90s and is one of the few, if not the only one, who managed to stay significant to this day. his albums always did good and while he might lost some fans over the years due to becoming to mainstream for them he always managed to gain the same amount, or even more, fans back. I would say hes kinda like the german jay z he always has been there, he always delivered but somehow always got overshadowed.
Since the 90's? Wasn't his first hit in 2004, which landed Aggro Berlin big? I would also not say he is overshadowed in any way. He is popular, tbh - I would not compare him to Jay-Z but more to how Eminem is nowadays (not skill wise). Both were rude and on drugs, very foul language. But later on transitioned to more positive music. In terms of overshadowed and has always been there I think you would need to mention Samy Deluxe.
Sido is one of the biggest, yeah. Also Cro, although he does not only rap songs, still, his masks were very popular in the 2010s, and I think, he was a bit bigger than Sido from 2014 onwards (Cro's Prime). Of course, both of them are miles ahead from the German rappers nowadays, who only sing shit about cars, shoes and women. Or footballers...
I think Sido has kind of emerged from being seen as a rapper into being a mainstream celebrity. Almost everyone knows who he is. Of course, he still makes music, but he is part of various TV shows and stuff like that. So music is still his profession, but he managed to pop up in other forms of entertainment and make a career outside of music.
It's so funny to see someone reacting to German music without having a clue about the acts, I really liked this non-biased reaction :D I giggled very hard when you credited Campino (the singer of Die Toten Hosen) great stage presence while I know it's one of the most famous bands down here :D
Holy smokes… I‘m also a German, born in 1978 and I honestly have to admit: The years 2010 up to 2014 were okay in my ears, but beginning with 2015 or 2016 I really thought „What crap did we have in the Charts?“ I again do know now why I‘m almost only listening to Oldies, except a few artists like Seeed, Peter Fox, and a few others… But the first 4 years brought back a lot of memories so thank you for that! Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp ✌️
let me tell you, with me beeing 20 yeears younger its exactly the same :D Around when I was 14 these songs were good. Not the fast, beat-heavy kind of good, but I stuck with those kind of songs until the 2020's. Only realized afterwards what gigantic bullet I dodged that way
@@joseppedaia3673 You might be 20 years younger, BUT: I can see we basically have the same thoughts when it comes to Music! 👍🙏 All the best from Bavaria, Philipp 👋

The German charts lost me around 2016-17... I'm not a big fan of modern German rap 😅 Anything before that is very nostalgic for me. My favorite German artists are Clueso and Mark Forster
zu basic? :) Ich hör sonst kaum noch deutsche Musik... Naja neuerdings sind noch Lord of the Lost in meiner Playlist gelandet, aber die singen ja auf englisch.
Man those early 2010 songs were surprisingly good and a nice hit of nostalgia. Starting with 2016 I stopped caring for most of stuff, that‘s just not for me
5:23 Die Toten Hosen (the dead trousers) are pretty much the most iconic German punk band. They've been in the charts for a good 30 years now. The singer, Campino, has the British citizenship now by the way.
@@8NationStayell if you say there is a place where it is "tote Hose" in Germany you mean it is a boring place where nothing happens - so that's what their name comes from.
man i remember being a HUGE fan of geboren um zu leben, to a point where i drew a picture of the singer and had my dad send it to him and they sent me signed drumsticks in return 😭 core memory
This video should become a separate series bc these clips are way too short and you cant rly judge them. Till around 2017 most/ all songs are bangers and still heard sometimes. So so many artists that didnt get to shine bc the clip ended before the best part. There are so many artists to explore in the german music industry bc its so huge and diverse (3rd biggest music industry in the world). Altho during the years i feel like we got polluted with rap. Not to say its all bad, i like quite a lot too, but its not as diverse anymore
"Tage wie diese" by the Toten Hosen came out the year I graduated and man does it hit me in the feels! they sing "on days like these I wish for eternity" and we really partied like we have time and are young forever. Now I am 30 and wished I could bring back those light headed summer days
The clips are all way too short. Definitely worth checking out each song individually. There are very good songs that are worth listening to and seeing in their entirety. Cro, Materia, Seeed, Peter Fox, Andreas Bourani, Xavier Naidoo, Mark Forster....
I admit…I am watching his videos for two reasons only: 1) I LOVE hearing his scottish accent and 2) I LOVE how he fancies almost everything German…as a German I too often feel unloved and misunderstood by the rest of the World. So: nice to be liked as a Germ(an) 😉
There's a lot of German Rock and Metal, but it's rarely "top of the charts" popular, that's usually reserved for softer pop music, and since around 2016, rap.
Unless it's like Heaven Shall Burn making #1 in the album charts ^^' I personally don't really listen to many of the real main streamy stuff nowadays, but a good bunch of those early year songs in this compilation made me feel pretty nostalgic 😁
Might be because metal sucks. Everyone who enjoys having someone scream shit into their ears thats not understandable, has to have some sort of mental illness.
Cro was my biggest inspiration growing up. He mixed rap and pop and called it Raop as pretty much his own genre. He was the one really bringing Rap into the Mainstream over here and still does music(even tho he kinda fell off a bit) and is now in his thirties i guess.
I find it funny how I knew most songs up until like 2016 and then practically none of them😂 Marks the time when I started listening to American/ British music, I guess. That rap/ trap etc. mostly isn't my type of music😅
i mostly knew many of them, but all those rap stuff. not mine. Nothing against good rap. But the lyrics of the most new stuff i guess is not something nice. Ok i real start listing to british music back end of the 90s. Yeah and maybe i am too old. But i guess we nee a change in german msic again, less rap, less helene fisher.
Since 2015-16 Im not really satisfied with the state of german hip/hop and rap. I mean there are a few ones like Kollegah but not really impactful newcomers. But im curious about the new stuff from Asche maybe you can react to music from him comes closest to the good old times mixed with new influences.
2016+ they even stopped being German in my opinion. Most of the accents later would locally be called "Assi Deutsch", typically broken pronounciation from originally non natives which some Germans picked up to seem more "Gangsta", but in the end mostly makes them look like idiots. Most of the songs also changed from kinda meaningful and emotional to drugs, drugs, more drugs, sex, money, objectification of women, and everything into that direction.
You forgot to add drugs. Nah honestly the "Assi Rap" is just shit and they shouldn't resemble Germany in terms of Music. I also stopped listening to the charts around that time and switched to English music. But Cro for example is just iconic.
Yeah it kinda shocked me how nostalgic I was till around 2016 with just to be completely shocked like 30 seconds later that guys like Nimo, Zuna or Azet are in the same list as all the songs and artists prior.
In my old town, it was called "Breitenstraßendeutsch" After the street where drugs where supposedly dealt (I have no evidence, but I have an idea, where)
i was born in 2002 so basically this time span is my childhood/ adolescence) but i sadly have to say since 2017 german music got worse, especially since german "rap" got so popular among the youth. Even nowadays we have many talented singers, bands and rappers but the genere rap got so popular with so many bad songs with nonsense/stupid lyrics that it is dominating the charts and it is just sad to see. Only here and then there are some good new songs released (i mean songs that will stay in your head). I'm really happy when i hear songs from 2000-2017 in the radio because of the nostalgic feeling with it.
thank you so much! You brought back so many songs I absolutely forgot about! But at the same time, damn, really? Can´t be possible that these songs are THAT old! I feel old now
8:00 Alligatoah is a german rapper. His tracks are mostly about serious problems, world news, politicians or criticise behavior. But his style of performing and texting is sarcasm lyrics and happy jolly melodies. Its pretty worth listening to it, and get a propper translation. This song was ,,Willst du mit mir drogen nehmen,, ,,Do you want to consume drugs with me,,,
True! And his videos are also great. Very artistic and on point. Please check out: Musik ist keine Lösung, Nachbeben, du bist schön or Lass liegen. The pictures will tell the stories.
a few comments: 2012 no. 1 (and others in the list:) "Die Toten Hosen: started as aPunk band, has been around since the 80s, complete cult status in Germany - and as far as I know even in some non-German-speaking countries! Some Punk-attitude still there. And yes, Campino (their lead singer) has a stage-presence! He's a real star! The guy with the Panda Mask, Cro, who appeared again and again, was quite big in several European countries. And he wore the mask all the time, so that when he walked around without it, he would not be recognized. He has now ended his career. The last of 2014, Helene Fischer, is the most prominent star in the German genre of "Schlager" (which actually just means "hit") Schlager is a uniquely German genre-phenomenon. There are actually some videos on YT, trying to explain it. Most artists featured here are definitely successful and more than one-hit wonders. Rammstein is currently involved in a very unsavoury scandal. But yes, they were an important musical export for quite a long time!
Die Toten Hosen and Die Ärzte are THE Punk/Rock Legends in Germany since the 80s - here they are great for more than 30 years and when you think, they are finally retired, they come up with another Top10 hit
It is insane how worse it went around 2017. I think that was the time I stopped listening to the new songs. My all time favourite is Wincent Weiss but I have a lot of artists I really like because of some songs released in my childhood (eg Revolverheld, Sarah Connor, SDP).
Unheilig "Geboren um zu leben" was music to my soul as my sibling died in January 2011 - it touched my heart and reminded me so much of them. (They died Young in their twenties)
If you want to explore more german rap music you should check out "Alligatoah" and "Sido". They don't just sound good but have also meaningful lyrics. When it comes to rock/punk bands I'd recommend "Die Toten Hosen" and "Die Ärzte" , they are iconic. I think most of us early 2000er kids get a lot of nostalgia when we listen to "Cro" (he is still very popular), "Revolverheld" and "Unheilig" (he has such a calming voice and beautiful songs). For me personally "Lila Wolken" by Marteria, etc. is THE nostalgic song, absolute beautiful. You should react to full songs by the artists because only 5 seconds don't show anything.
7:55 the refrain hes singing there translates to: "Do you want to take drugs with me? Then it will rain red roses"... So yes, it is very related to the video :D
Since I`ve watched Andreas Kummert on you tube , I can`t get enough ! He is an amazing artist! There is a lot of things on you tube, including concerts, and new singles from 2023! His voice is like no other and you feel emotion, pain and grit in every song he does! Germany grüßt euch
Damn...to see this as a German is just sad...everything after 2016 makes me cry... BUT pls dude, look for the band "Electric Callboy". They just got an huge hype. They are amazing. Hear the song "we got the moves" you will love it. i promise (:
Love your facial expressions change when you are like impressed by something🔥 and also your opinions for me as a german pretty interesting to see how german songs affects to others👌 very nice video and keep going🫶🏻
Love your interest in German songs and in general your reactions to other German videos. You are my favourite and definately the most inteligent "reactionist"!Keep going!!!
8:00 That artist is Alligatoa (alligator written in a stupid way). He is a comedy HipHop guy who uses his music mostly to criticise society, decadence and consumerism. (Ironically, he is one of the very best artist out there even if you leave out any meaning. The song was called "Do you wanna do drugs with me" and it is actually about dramatic and unresponsible relationships. I absolutely vouch for his stuff. Try "Narben", "Du bist schö", "Amnesie" and "Lass liegen".
Some time ago I turned with the car in the driveway of my parents, windows down and spotify played "Willst du" by Alligatoah very loud and my father stood in front of the front door and the cigarette dropped out of the corner of his mouth and he was in total shock 😂I had to explain to him that this kind of music is satire and that I don't have a drug problem with 34 years. 😂 He was pissed like "What should the neighbours think?" - Well, I don't live anymore in this village since 2011, so idc 🤐🤣 And every day when I see a certain colleague at work I think of "Du bist schön" .... fits perfectly 😂
@@eastfrisianguy Ahh, describing your life wth song lyrics is nice. You do tremind me of that time when my brother had a LAN party (in the 2000s) and the guys liked to listen to this 1live show "Sataan" where satan always wanted to destroy the world, but was defeated by some stupid shit like mostly being annoyed into defeat by people. On the CD was just ONE music track. Part of it told "And when satan fell, he fell and fell and fell full on his face." but a different part just cheered "Satan, oh you my prince of hell." Of course THAT was the moment my mom walked in on them with snacks... Boy, that needed some explaining/convincing.
Alligatoah is very good. What many people overlook is who clean the rhyme structures of his songs are. He is clearly on of the end bosses of Deutschrap lyrics and rhymes. I love is song "Nicht adoptiert". Awesome lyrics and I love the line "Umweltsau, du verbrauchst Basketballfelder an Nahrungsbehältern, staatliche Gelder und den Schlaf deiner Eltern."
Because you asked for typical German rock artists: I would definitely say „Die Toten Hosen“ (translates to „the dead trousers“), they have some real classics. I loved seeing your reaction and revisiting all those songs… :)
I would add Die Ärzte (the doctors) as well. Both came from punk rock (I don't want to get into the debate if they still are lol) and have been around since the 80s. Personally I have to say I don't like what Die Toten Hosen have become. Most of their music now seems to be made to be sung while drunk at football matches with not much depth to them.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. As a German, they provide me with a unique perspective on my own country from an external viewpoint. More of it, please!
Cro is basically the German Justin Bieber. Started out from quite a young age and quickly became one of the most famous artists in German. Is nowadays also collaborating with Hip-Hop Artists.
7:48 Alligatoah is an artist who is definitly worth checking out! I'm saying artist, not musician, since this man is just a genius in several ways. Not only does his music sound good while rapping and singing, his lyrics have messages while mastering wordplay, and he also works on every single one of his music videos himself! Some of the songs I recommend the most are Du bist schön, Musik ist keine Lösung, Wie Zuhause and Nachbeben.
"Kleider machen Leute, doch die Leute, die die Kleider machen, leisten sich bis heute leider weniger Designerjacken" - Alligatoah -Du bist schön- The whole song is a lyrical masterpiece, but that line is insane.
Cro had his breakthrough and was very popular in this decade. He makes (imo) really nice pop-rap. Sadly u couldn't visit any of his concerts back then, because it was PACKED with 14yr-olds.
In my eyes our biggest Rock Export are "The scorpions" with Hits like "Rock you like a hurricane" or "Winds of change" Also the Band alphaville with "Forever Young" and "big in Japan"
Actually: Germany has the third largest music market on this planet! And yes, it's very diverse in genres! And there are some legendary musicians and bands out there. As you asked about "Die Toten Hosen" < this band is around since 1982! So 40+ years on stage! They are kind of german punk! A famous german rap-group are "Fanta 4" ("Die Fantastischen Vier" = "The Fantastic Four") doing german rap music since 30+ years! The legend Udo Lindenberg started his first band in 1969 and is still in the charts and on tour, same as Marius Müller-Westernhagen. His first record was released in 1975, his last one in 2022. I saw him live in 1998 and it was the biggest concert I've been to: 106,000 people/fans attending! Herbert Grönemeyer relased his first record in 1979 and just released a new record in this year! A german songwriter by the Name of Reinhard Mey came up with his first album in 1967 and is still doing music. Last record was released two years ago. Just to name a very few! If you prefer "harder" music: Check out the video "Böhse Onkelz - So sind wir (Böhse für's Leben 2015)". The band was founded in 1980 and they are/sound like the legendary Motörhead (rip, Lemmy Kilmister), but in german style/language! Altough it's harder rock music ... if you watch this video, you'll see how much fun they have and especially their fans! I loved to see them live! Give it a try! :)
i am from germany and ist funny to see your reaction anytime there is "schlager"-music playing. My favourits are still: Die Ärzte, Die toten Hosen, Sido, Andreas Bourani. Nice video by the way:)
So first I was nostalgic and felt really old with 35 years, of the rap songs I know maybe 5% 😂 I know it is currently very trendy, but I was previously more in the metal and alternative area (Linkin Park, System of a Down, The Offspring) and German pop also to some extent. An American I met while gaming asked for good German songs and Tim Benzko "Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären" including translation almost made him cry. I also think the song is super nice with a very deep meaning! 😊
just had a listen. Its okay - Thank you. The word words "worte" sounds like wart in my native language, so i thought of warts a lot involuntarily - has nothing to do with the song, just my experience listening xD Bin Däne, und verstehe shon was Deutsch.
There's no access to a different language and culture quite like music. There are so many German songs that remind me of my time in school, time spent with friends and family. Please do more of these music reactions, Mert! That being said, I think it's sad to see what German music has degenerated into since 2015/16. Rap in particular has become the worst and most annoying music genre. And since it has become so popular among the youth, it's everywhere. Nowadays the charts are filled with brainless gangster music off the peg, with incoherent lyrics that don't even rhyme anymore, delivered by someone who's mumbling and hardly able to speak the language without accent, rapped on a trashy beat. No, thank you. 🚮
@lucudubras2185 I understand you so well about rap. I am an old style DJ in a virtual world playing european and american pop/rock/trance/disco and a lot of morew styles, usually for americans, but what my folks there are happy about is that they don't have to listen to rap/techno/dubstep at my DJ sets. It's a true escape to them hearing 80s music or Disco from the 70s, or all the other decades starting with the 60s. What I also find borderline embarassing are german Schlager songs that try desperately to sound modern by just adding techno style effects and autotune rubbish into them, as if it would save the day. *gets goosebumps all over*
@@amurtigress_mobile365 : I am Brittas boyfriend, only using her Computer too. As a conservative older man, i am 58, i don' t visit Diskos/ Clubs, was never my taste, i prefer the traditional ,Tanzlokale', becoming slowly rare. Mostly older people there, but no drunken or violent idiots.
As someone who was mostly a rock fan and only got into rap a little over the last few years, I realized Germany has great rap artists, with smart lyrics and good sound. But those are not the songs that are in this playlist
Sido is one of the biggest rapper in Germany. He also was one of the first people who made Rap famous in Germany (together with the Fanta4). He is something like the German Rap "Dad" i think. I can also recommend the music of the band SDP. Their music is not really on the radio (only a few songs i guess but i can only remember one that was really in the radio (but there was an online radio which played their songs)). They call them self "die bekannteste unbekannte Band der Welt" (Translation: The most known unknown band of the world) and have a range of styles inculding: party, love songs, deep songs and sarcastic songs. 😊(Can't believe their song "Ich will nur, dass du weißt" wasn't in there bc that one was quite famous)
so from 2011 to 2015 was my childhood when i was in elementary school and when i see it now i feel how much these years influenced me and im a little sad that i dont have the time to hear all the music i like so im forgetting songs and entire bands or singers entirely just because its so much new stuff that came since then till now.
I'd rather go with Scorpions over Rammstein, when it comes to German rock music that is internationally known bands, I'm pretty sure Tote Hosen and Ärzte are pretty well - known in the punk adjacent genres, Felix Jaehn and Robin Schulz are widely known in that housey, EDM genre area and bands like Heaven Shall Burn, Caliban, Sodom, Kreator and Destruction are probably pretty well-known by metalheads 🥰
Cro has a song called „King of raop“ so the king of rap & Pop. I think this fits pretty well, cause his songs are a kombination of rap & pop. Not as popular as he was in like 2014-2018 but still there with a big fanbase and sometimes hitting the charts for a few weeks.
Felix Jaehn ans Zedd are both German origins and big names in the EDM and house music scene. Cascada is german as Well and Rammstein and Scorpions are music Exports. In Germany themself u have Helene Fischer, the Queen of Schlager, Mark Forster, King of German Pop, Sido and Peter Fox are Legends in the Rap Scene. Cro and Alligator are both more known for their trash Pop. And Andreas Gabablier is know to sing in Austrian Folklore. And known by many movie Fans is Hans Zimmer for his compositions in Interstellar, Dune, Interception, Gladiator, Dunkirk, Pirates of the Carribean and Man of Steel. Germany has afterall great music but sadly its Hardly represented at Eurovision proper.
Two small information about German pronunciation: The "ei" in German is pronunced like the English "i", and the German "i" is pronunced like the English "ei". And the "e" at the end of words is not silence - so "Tag" is one day, "Tage" are multiple days. Without speaking the 'e', there is a confusion, if it is one day ore multiple days.
I think cro is still kind of popular but not as big as he used to be. Artist like Die Ärzte, die toten Hosen and alligatoah have Legendary status and still fill concert halls(watch "rock am ring 2023 toten Hosen", was amazing). German Rock/punk rock music (and German metal if you're interested)for example: Die toten Hosen Die Ärzte Megaherz Kraftclub Broilers Kreator Powerwolf And much more is there to find.
In 2010 I was 6. I can remember everything since I was three. Always driving around next to my parents in the car, because my whole life we had to drive a lot... Only hearing the 2010 playlist in short gave me such a beautiful "back in childhood feeling" aahhh
There are some really beautiful songs in here. You definitely should listen to a collection that shows you a bit more of the songs (around 10 seconds for each song would be perfect)
So the Rap's in this MusikMix I wouldn't call "German Rap" ^^ The times of German Rap are history in my opinion. This is somehow a blend of Arab clan music, coupled with reggae, cheap imitated Bronx ghetto beats, and not even deep lyrics that were actually then in the rap movement in America of importance. It's all about cars, drug use, bitches, sluts and more slam*** ^^ If you want to hear actual "German Rap" you have to deal with greats like Moses Pelham, 3p, Cool Savage, Die Fantastischen Vier, Curse or Sido.
2010: Most of them were played up and down on the radio, but there's a few good ones in there. Geboren um zu Leben in particular is a top choice. 2011: I remember a few of them because they were on the radio, but two of those i remember because i have this Spongebob album that was Spongebob themed parodies of various songs. 2012: I really only remember a few of these ones. M&F is iconic, obviously. Lila Wolken on the other hand has a really sad connotation for me. A close friend of my sister (who i was also friends with, but nowhere as close) died very unexpectedly, and this song played at her funeral. 2013: Again, didn't recognize a lot of those, but Adel Tawil's "Lieder" is great. You should go watch that one seperately, it's not so much one song as it is an hommage at all the music Adel Tawil enjoyed growing up. 2014: Terrible year in the history of German music, for Atemlos alone. 2015: I recognized like two of these, and neither one was particularily good. 2016: I might have recognized one of those. The rest? Never heard. 2017: See above. 2018: I did not recognize a single one of those, but if that is actually the best to have come out of Germany that year... unalive me. 2019: For a change, something good with Deutschland. Conclusion: Whoever made this is probably my age, but instead of being an edgy bisexual burnt out gifted kid hipster like i was, high school confused them to the point that they thought listening to rap is a personality trait, then proceeded to discard all others.
Yes yes yes I wanted to write that too :D They're also like a really modern and fun mix of electro, metal and other elements so I think it would be very enjoyable
Its been a couple years since i moved back to my homeland from germany(stayed there from 2014-2017) which basically influenced my current music taste. I was wondering what happened to german music today.... I guess i moved away on the right time...
Cro is just a living legend by now. Such diversity and beauty in his lyrics and beats. He really is a very talented young man that has become even more relevant and popular since his debut.
The Singer of die Toten Hosen is Campino. The band is also very popular in Argentina und south America. They are now about 40 years in business. One of my favorite bands
Die Toten Hosen, or referred to as the Punk Millionaires in an older version of German Trivial Pursuit, have been there since the 1980's. And admittedly, to me the last century was the time when they were of a certain importance, flair, but they kind of lost it. Die Ärzte, the other big commercial (fun) punk band from Germany never did, though. A little side note to rap taking over.. beside it really went bigger, quite some artists actually artificially blew their videos up via outo generated clicks/plays on platforms, especially since the over-use of autotune started. Without cheating, they wouldn't have become as big as they did (which surprisingly holds true even for some of those who already were successful). afaik this wasn't a thing in other genres, at least not nearly to a degree like in rap/hip hop.
Damn i didn't think i would miss some of these songs so much. A few of them were my favourite hits as a teenager and went through ups and downs with me.
I was born 2008 and I am litterally vibing to the songs screaming the lyrics god I missed these songs so much, especially 2012 was like when I started to actually listen to the radio music but I know songs from before too
8:00 Yes, it is! xD The song is about taking drugs and going down together. Alligatoah is great. All was good or ok till 2016 imho, but since 2017 there is mostly autotune crap trap.
Rammstein is definitely still the most relevant German music export worldwide... What I would be interested in is how many people, statistically speaking, have started to learn German just because of Rammstein (it also fits perfectly with your channel 😉)... I know there are quite a few...
Robin Schulz, zedd, felix jaehn, alle farben, gestört aber geil, henning may and a lot more are germans that are known internationally. There are a lot more especially known in america. And most Americans dont even know they are german and just assume they are American
I think the extreme transition from pop/edm to rap/trap music has mostly to do with streaming services. In 2014 most young people (including me) still listened to mp3 songs we shared via bluetooth (most people didn't have smartphones yet) that were either aquired as physical album copies in stores or pirated from the internet. With the rise of smartphones and first iTunes, then Spotify that shifted and especially music consumed by younger people profited since it was mostly the young generation pirating their music.
I think I remember why I don't listen to music anymore. Which is not me saying: "Those damn kids with their baroque music!" If you like that sort of music, godspeed. It's just not my cup of tea.
The popularity changed? I believe the population changed. It shifted towards oriental roots. It really displays in the type of music that gets to the top here. It's not bad, some beats that resulted from this developement were irresistable. I personally like songs without drugs and crime though 😅
Cro and Mark Forster for example starts their prime time in this time...really nice video. Its funny for me as a german to know all these artist but for you is it the first time to see and hear it 😊 best wish from Hanover ✌
As a German I always look back at the good old times before 2016 and now I almost only listen to American music and the old German classics
As a German I always look back at the good old times before 2004 😀
As a german I don’t listen to german music. Spanish, african, brazilian and d&b is the shit
I've mostly moved away from music that includes vocals. It's much more universal and the lyrics of most German music - especially what they play on radio - is totally "washed down" and softened. It must make most German music seem like whiny crap to outsiders. Somehow most of those tunes seem to come from the same can.

The down fall of German Pop music in one video.
The thing on Rap is, it’s nothing for old People 40+ years.

As a German I can tell you, Sido and Cro influnced every childhood back in the days (like 2010-2017). Everyone was listening to their music.
Nah not everyone. Speak for yourself. This music was always trash to me and Sido in the beginning was a gross ghetto dummy. Classic child of Berlin circumstances. I always knew Music stopped being magic after the 80s and I wasnt even alive back then.
Add Bushido to the mix as he and Sido pushed themselves to the spot lights with their "early beefs", which probably was more of a marketing trick.
I laughed so hard as he noticed the scene where the girl made a line out of the white stuff. Fun Fact: its indeed supposed to be what y’all think it is. They even mentioned it in the song: „Willst su mit mir Drogen nehmen?“ translates into „Do you want to take drugs with me?“

some people, especially younger people, might disagree but sido is pretty much the biggest rapper in germany. while he not always has been the most popular hes been around since the 90s and is one of the few, if not the only one, who managed to stay significant to this day. his albums always did good and while he might lost some fans over the years due to becoming to mainstream for them he always managed to gain the same amount, or even more, fans back. I would say hes kinda like the german jay z he always has been there, he always delivered but somehow always got overshadowed.
really good comparison!😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 German jay z😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 der war gut😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Totally agreed :)
In Extremo is quite a cool band, they are from Berlin and played as a support band for Kiss this year in Berlin.
I love InExtremo so much
Thats only for single Charts though. Rock&Metal charts plenty in the Album Charts
But i guess we nee a change in german msic again, less rap, less helene fisher.
same here. :D
Thats because it simply is only 1% music and 99% attitude

I always love how Germans combine love songs with rock / catchy beats and put so much effort into the lyrics
In my old town, it was called "Breitenstraßendeutsch"
After the street where drugs where supposedly dealt (I have no evidence, but I have an idea, where)
Might I add useless expensive cars (like ... Lambos) to your list?
gosh.. i can totally agree and couldnt say it even better lol 😂 😂
i was born in 2002 so basically this time span is my childhood/ adolescence) but i sadly have to say since 2017 german music got worse, especially since german "rap" got so popular among the youth.
Would you agree if I say, that atemlos evokes the most nostalgia?
thank you so much! You brought back so many songs I absolutely forgot about! But at the same time, damn, really? Can´t be possible that these songs are THAT old! I feel old now
8:00 Alligatoah is a german rapper. His tracks are mostly about serious problems, world news, politicians or criticise behavior.
The Netherlands have Schlager too
But Cro released some new songs, he had kind of a break for some years and is back again since 1-2 years.
Monster into Geboren um zu Leben was the biggest vibe switch up ever. Literally went from happy & hyped to emotions I haven't felt since fourth grade.

Today's music in Germany is a total catastrophe... I want the music of the past again😢

8:00 That artist is Alligatoa (alligator written in a stupid way). He is a comedy HipHop guy who uses his music mostly to criticise society, decadence and consumerism. (Ironically, he is one of the very best artist out there even if you leave out any meaning.
Part of it told "And when satan fell, he fell and fell and fell full on his face." but a different part just cheered "Satan, oh you my prince of hell."
Of course THAT was the moment my mom walked in on them with snacks... Boy, that needed some explaining/convincing.
Alligatoah is very good. What many people overlook is who clean the rhyme structures of his songs are. He is clearly on of the end bosses of Deutschrap lyrics and rhymes.

Cro is an absolute vibe. Still listening to his music today.
"Kleider machen Leute, doch die Leute, die die Kleider machen, leisten sich bis heute leider weniger Designerjacken" - Alligatoah -Du bist schön-
The whole song is a lyrical masterpiece, but that line is insane.
Cro had his breakthrough and was very popular in this decade. He makes (imo) really nice pop-rap. Sadly u couldn't visit any of his concerts back then, because it was PACKED with 14yr-olds.
In my eyes our biggest Rock Export are "The scorpions" with Hits like "Rock you like a hurricane" or "Winds of change"
Also the Band alphaville with "Forever Young" and "big in Japan"
You should mention that 'Böhse Onkels' have a huge Neo-Nazi fanbase because their texts resonate with them.
i am from germany and ist funny to see your reaction anytime there is "schlager"-music playing.
The word words "worte" sounds like wart in my native language, so i thought of warts a lot involuntarily - has nothing to do with the song, just my experience listening xD
Bin Däne, und verstehe shon was Deutsch.
@@ludwigmoch8498same, bin 22 und alles von 187ers bis dieser ganze weichgespülte rap von bausa und so ist einfach echt eklig 😂
Yooo I used to watch your german rap reactions years ago. Love to see you coming back to reacting to german music🔥
Degenerate nails it
Sido is one of the biggest rapper in Germany.
I grew up on these songs and this video brought back so many memories....
From what I heard the Toten Hosen are crazy popular in Argentina
Cro has a song called „King of raop“ so the king of rap & Pop. I think this fits pretty well, cause his songs are a kombination of rap & pop.
Not as popular as he was in like 2014-2018 but still there with a big fanbase and sometimes hitting the charts for a few weeks.
So much childhood nostalgia there. So many memories i really have tears in my eyes
Still popular here. Love these songs
I mean the songs till 2015 are the best. But I dont like rap and hip hop. So the oldies are just four me.
"Meine soldaten" has been i my head for years and years now. Great lyrics, great voice. I would love to see a reaction to that.....❤
6:55 Sido is one of the biggest rappers in germany.
He started around the 2000's so he's already a legend in the german rap scene!
I think cro is still kind of popular but not as big as he used to be.
Artist like Die Ärzte, die toten Hosen and alligatoah have Legendary status and still fill concert halls(watch "rock am ring 2023 toten Hosen", was amazing).
German Rock/punk rock music (and German metal if you're interested)for example:
Die toten Hosen
Die Ärzte
Megaherz
Kraftclub
Broilers
Kreator
Powerwolf
And much more is there to find.
Alligatoah is one of the most creative german rap artists bc of his theatrical background and thourougness in his tracks
In 2010 I was 6. I can remember everything since I was three. Always driving around next to my parents in the car, because my whole life we had to drive a lot... Only hearing the 2010 playlist in short gave me such a beautiful "back in childhood feeling" aahhh
„Best Days“ from Anastacia is a version of „Tage wie Diese“ (Top 1 2012) written and translated from the singer of Die Toten Hosen for Anastacia.
For bands that started to get international fans in high numbers you can look into electric callboy.
Everything they did since 2020 is fire.
Yes yes yes I wanted to write that too :D They're also like a really modern and fun mix of electro, metal and other elements so I think it would be very enjoyable
Dont they have a different name now?
@@carliemarliee die hießen vorher eskimo callboy. Der neue Name ist Electric callboy.
Electric Callboy !!!
Jop 👍🏻
I was born 2008 and I am litterally vibing to the songs screaming the lyrics god I missed these songs so much, especially 2012 was like when I started to actually listen to the radio music but I know songs from before too
8:00 Yes, it is! xD The song is about taking drugs and going down together. Alligatoah is great.
All was good or ok till 2016 imho, but since 2017 there is mostly autotune crap trap.
4:00 Still by Jupiter Jones was intact a one-hit-wonder.
This whole video is my childhood.. 1-10th grade in school❤
Rammstein is definitely still the most relevant German music export worldwide... What I would be interested in is how many people, statistically speaking, have started to learn German just because of Rammstein (it also fits perfectly with your channel 😉)... I know there are quite a few...
Google or UA-cam Rammstein !! 👍👍 all US know them !!
Robin Schulz, zedd, felix jaehn, alle farben, gestört aber geil, henning may and a lot more are germans that are known internationally. There are a lot more especially known in america. And most Americans dont even know they are german and just assume they are American
I'm German and i grew up with many of this songs. Especially 2012-2016 were the songs of my childhood :)
Would love you reacting to a few of these songs in pairs or individually, especially before 2016
I think the extreme transition from pop/edm to rap/trap music has mostly to do with streaming services.
I’m getting Goosebumps on every part of my body when I’m listening to that old German songs.
I know almost every song until 2016 when the whole rap thing began. Im also stucked to the dubstep bubble since 2013 thanks to skrillex.
6:29 In the Song „Lieder“ Adel Tavil sings about songs from the eighties for example Purple Rain, When Doves Cry etc.
My favorites are the German Rockband Die Toten Hosen, Mark Forster, Max Giesinger and Henning May and Ju Ju.
You made me surprise... not bad at all :)
With love and a broad smile from here:
Thank you Sir !
seit 2015 geht die Qualität echt runter...boah, was Gruselig zum Teil...
My god I'm getting old. Great video - many songs just feel like they came out yesterday hehe. Good memories 😸
