- Reaction To heute-show (Brexit: deal or no deal?)
This is my reaction to heute-show (Brexit: deal or no deal?)
In this video I react to more from German satirical politcal comedy heute show. In this video they speak more about Brexit and the British Governments indecisiveness.
Original Video - • Brexit: deal or no dea...
I set up a Discord: discord.gg/VHRyVWvh
On my previous video where I reacted to Volker Pispers, some people mentioned that the subtitles/translations were very bad and recommended I set up a Discord and they can provide better subtitles. I'll be honest, I really have no idea how to use Discord, so I am not sure how that would even work but thought I would set one up anyway. I originally set up my account for Discord in 2020 for some reason but never used it. If anyone wants to let me know how it works and what I can use it for, I would be very appreciative.
I am honestly quite tech savvy but Discord has just never been something I have attempted to use before, so I'm a little lost haha.
So please let me know if there are cool things I can do with it for my channel and I look forward to connecting with some of you over there. Cheers!!
if you need help with the discord just ask
The British Parliament sounds to me always like a herd of sheep and goats arguing.😅
@@azeplayt4546 in this video maybe. in the video he mentioned the translation is very bad.
@@azeplayt4546 the subtitles _here_ were done by a human, but in the Pispers video they were really cringeworthy (and not just with the jokes) - obviosly done with some _very_ crappy translator software. Even the automated UA-cam translation (that has to do voice recognition first!) was better, despite it struggling with German dialect and colloquialisms.
Du solltest dir mal " Georg Schramm " anschauen. Wirklich fantastisch 👍👍🖖🇩🇪🖖
there was one good thing about Brexit: it gave several comedy shows basically unlimited content 😂
Like the FDP :D
And Trump
We just need to hope Trump is going to be elected again 😂
@@makspaua9838I mean it would be a absolute disaster for America's democracy but since the world is going down anyways let it at least be a hilarious ending 😂
Pretty much the same as Trump.
the most funny thing with the last part is, that this is not staged. The show has two feared and famous "outdoor reporters" - Fabian Köster and Lutz van der Horst - they do real interviews with politcians and both are so smart making these interviews a comedy of it's own - by surpising their discussion-partner. Some politicians in Germany meanwhile start fleeing when they recognize one of these reporters.
Best one was Anne Marie Strack-Zimmermann who took over the microphone from Fabian Köster.
ua-cam.com/video/p-lnKLhcOwY/v-deo.html
My favourite is Lutz van der Horst at the AfD-Parteitag 😂🙏
And also that Oettinger is famous for his absolutely atrocious English, which is why Fabian tried to bait him into speaking it, and why he so adamantly refused...
And let's not forget that Oettinger's grasp of English is only surpassed by Edmund Stoiber's grasp of German in its absurdity...
@@Ugly_German_Truths I wonder, if he managed to get to the airport by now. 😂
In case you didn't get it, the reason why Günther "I speak english very well" Oettinger refuses to speak english on german TV is because his very good english sounds cartoonishly stereotypical, as if he's satirizing a german accent. It has caused some laughs before...
I personally think a big problem for him as well as Westerwelle before him is that he gets his speeches written for him but his comprehension of the english language isn´t so great that he can simply read it out loud. Imho he should´ve done more preperation on his speeches: learning pronunciation of words, even their meaning and trying to re-write his speech into his own ductus so it´s sounds less awful and "fake".
Even as swabish german i´m not sure if i unterstand him better while he´s talking in english or german...
@@paha4209 Ductus? are you sure you are not Merkel? 😀
@@DasIllu very sure.
yeah, Oettingers English is legendary: ua-cam.com/video/0Fksc1kzWz8/v-deo.html
Günther Oettinger is known in Germany for his absolutely bad English. He is a living meme.
He is a Swabian and has a strong Swabian dialect in English. In the meantime, however, he knows English well.
are u sure he knows that he cannot just translate things word by word? ^^
We all sit in the same boat 😂
So ,how many English people speak ANY foreign language ? English arrogance expects everybody to speak English
@@Cray93 I think that is the fun about it - translating things literally 😁 😆 😁 so of course I know where the bunny runs and that makes me so quickly nobody after 😂 🤣 🤣 on the other hand he may be be able not to communicate like a halfwit

What I think is really frustrating is that the whole Ireland issue was completely predictable, yet politicians acted so surprised when it created problems.
They had to, after all they had to pretend they actually cared about Ireland.
As an older gent I had bad visions of the troubles returning the very moment I heard about Brexit.
I can think of a bunch of other problems like that, climate change only being one of them 😅seems to be a pattern there with politicians
A friend just illegally immigrated to the UK to visit a festival because he didn’t have a passport. He just went over Ireland and didn’t get checked. lol
@@headhunter1945we europeans saw that comming immediately.
Because we handle stuff like that daily.
Germany has 16 different states that all have different rules and we have to come up with a way to unify all 16 every year.
Honestly I think this has been the most European experience, a french person watching german show with a Brit 😂
"Brexual harassment"
"No hard Brexit without Viagra"
These guys are savage.
The key difference between the British parliament and the European parliaments, such like the German, is that in the British is very much set up for conflict. By facing each other, a culture of shouting at each other is being promoted. In Germany, the seating is arranged in a semi-circle, facing the president of the parliament (which in the British system is The Speaker). MPs speaking up in the debate walk into the centre of the semi-circle and speak from a podium, facing all of the sitting MPs. In the British system, they stand up and speak from where they happen to sit. European parliaments also tend to assemble in buildings that have more than enough and allocated seating for all the MPs - the House of Commons has benches because it doesn't fit all members, because the room is too small. All of these factors promote the rowdy atmosphere in the HoC, which is alien to most of the European parliaments (with the exception of Italy 🙂)
And I think it's also mentionable that in Germany, there is limited time to speak for each MP in the center. Ofc, there's some harassement or trying to fool the speaker by shouting sth to the center, but only few words and if someone disturbs the speaker too much, he can be kicked out for that day by the president. And the MP in the center has a microphone ofc, while the others at there seats haven't one.
Well, there were and are also debates and loud comments in the German Bundestag, which are reprimanded for improper behavior.
Sounds like some fun in Britisch Parliament.
there are quite a few scenes from the bundestag on UA-cam, but I don't think they got english subtitles...
I think Brits and Germans complimenting eachother on their dry humour is just really cute
Günther "my english is not the yellow from the egg" Öttinger 🤣
I'd like to point out at 3:51 the subtitle says "something you'd see in a primary school". The term used by him to describe the school is "Brennpunkt-Schule" which is literally a "Burning point School". This is a term used to describe schools of any age group in districts with high cultural, economical, or other socio-demographic conflicts, which are usually rougher territory for both children and teachers.
Don't be ashamed, there are also many self-sarcastic things in German politics. 🙂
The scenes from the British Parlament could have been made by Monty Python
Now that you say that. 🤔
I get the suspicion that Monty Python wasn't satire at all but the normal everyday life in GB.
💯 points 😂
was my very first thought as well
One of our Satirists (?), Urban Priol, used Monty Python to explain how he would like to have our own parliament... 😂 I can only recommend him very much, although I don't know whether his stuff is subbed here... 🤔 I'm rewatching his annual reviews atm (Tilt series) and to rewatch them with a few years of distance even increased the fun 😂😂😂
I really like you trying to understand German Humor. I am a native Englisch speaker Living in Germany for over 3 decades now so i can follow and understand. Thank you so much and i wish you lots of good Feedback and success for future Shows. You are doing great. Love it❤
...and truly refreshing to listen to someone with a different view than those brexidiots commenting at the Daily Express...
I always think it`s great when other countries understand German humor and satire and you can laugh together.😂👍
First I knew Germans had a sense of humour, that's always been the humour.
Yeah, the Heute Show is really nice. Thanks for reacting! It is from our public broadcasting service like your BBC (which I really like as well, at least what I see).
Usually these shows ("ZDF Magazin Royal" with Jan Böhmermann is another one) go for domestic problems. Like a Aldi version of John Oliver with Last week tonight. Sometimes they look into different countries but never fail to put our own failures into context. Like here where they said that Germany has a lot of issues regard being a good member of the EU. I like that, nobody needs to tell me that I live in a great country and what is awesome about it... Tell me the problems so we can reduce them.
@@c.krueger9530 ... more like showing us exactly where he is wrong. He's more like a leftist Tucker Carlson, full of himself, only palpable to a target group that gets their news from TikTok, Instagram and Reddit, with a politically inept writer's room who feels superior because they get their news from Twitter.
Aldi version? Böhmi und Ehring sind keine Billigversion von John Oliver.🤦🏻♀️
The subtitles are well done, that's why the humor works so well even when you're english
The "Order" guy is cool.😄
We need more of this! So nice, to see a british person watching german satire😂 Heute show is the best
Me and my German family watched the british parliament sessions live when they dealt with the Brecit. Was kind of fun to watch at times, though we felt a tremendous loss too.
Hello,
Funny that the British also celebrate German humour. I am also a big fan of the Heute Show and the summer break is very hard. So this came in handy to tide me over. Greetings from Germany
Öttinger is famous in germany for his flawless english. We all aspire to become like him.
You should hear him talk. Beautiful. It'll make you cry for joy.
I even petition to bring the king's english up to this new standard. RP shall mean you received it from him!
It's really nice you're enjoying this show. It's even more impressive when you know it's a public broadcaster and not private.
As a Saxonian, we could easily get rid of Bavaria if you ask me 😜
By the way the presenter Oliver Welke wrote the German texts for 'Little Britain' on German TV
ja die waren aber schrecklich
english parliament looks fun, totally different from germany. in german parliament if someone ticks out or is shouting the person will be kicked out from the building and the party needs to pay a fine. so usually it is much more quiet in german parliament ^^
I actually like that about our parlament
Well, the parliament was "quite" until AfD entered the stage...
Yeah just as fun as a brawl among 15 year olds in Neukölln.

During that time I lived in southern Spain.
Most "Expads" voted for Brexit, and were shocked when suddenly they couldn't come and go as they wanted.

Just for context: the guy interviewed at the end is a German politician well known for speaking terrible English. He has been made fun of for that extensively, which is why he refuses to speak English at the end.
Breaking: British explorer discovers, Germans do in deed have a sense of humor, you may get the Nobel price for that.
Great reaction, really enjoyed it :)
Now you have to watch Öttinger speak english. It's hilarious😂
I recommend searching for the title "Oettinger Talking English - Worse than Westerwave" 😁... Only problem: the version I found has no subtitles - which would be sorely needed, for the first 30 seconds of German as well as the rest 😄...
"a figure like that" LOL: I really thougth they shopped this figure in 🤣😅
i love your reactions of german comedy :D
I really like your reaction videos on german comedy, especially on heute-show about brexit.... Its nice to watch the british point of view on this... even if you are just one of 50% 😂
Greetings from Germany to UK.
6:45 When Oli Welke clears his throat after saying "Unthinkable in Germany" he also means this ironically, as we also have a big problem with the working poor and the gap between rich and poor becoming bigger and bigger, thus creating more and more social dynamite.
These are so much fun to watch, I found your channel through the last heute show reaction and this is just great. I really hope you'll react to more of those ^^
I love your reactions. Greetings from Germany. ;D
When I grew up in Germany, everybody used to call the English (and only the English) "Inselaffen" which translates to "island monkeys" because they are sitting on their island, shouting, insulting others and throwing poop...not realising that they still need the others to live. That's what I was told it was. Then I married one of them and watched PMQ on telly. Now I know where it derives from!
Also because they always wanted an "Extra Wurst" for everything the EU decided on. They saw themself as better than the rest of the EU not realising that people saw them as monkeys throwing shit at each other.
I guess it's better than indulging in genocide.
I love your accent and how you say heute show ❤ love from Germany… btw we will wait till you want to come back, the eu isn’t complete without you guys 🤗
One correction (hyphen for better understanding):
3:49 A „Brennpunkt-Schule“ is by far NOT a primary school (ger. Grundschule), more like a very deprived school (a lot of violence, attacks on teachers etc.).
The German parliament is very different from the British one. The decision finding process and the working mechanisms in general are completely different. There are also more parties in the German parliament. Currently, there are members of 7 parties in the parliament, 8 if you count the Union as two parties. As a result, the government usually also consists of more than one party. So you don't just have the "two sides" that you find in the British parliament.
The British parliament actually has a sizeable number of parties, not the least due to regional parties. But the FPTP system in the individual constituencies makes for the fact that basically, each constituency comes down to a race between the two most important parties in that constituency, as any vote for someone without a chance of winning is basically throwing the vote away. The tragic consequence is that you don't even need support from the larger part of the electorate as such - you can get a seat n parliament even when two thirds of the electorate voted for someone else, as long as their votes are divided so as to not give anyone more votes. And that holds true not just on the level of the individual constituency, but also nation-wide. The Tories got a large parliamentary majority while having just over a third of the popular vote at times.
CGP Grey made a good video a few years ago how the British electoral system removes the outcome of elections from the actual will of the electorate dramatically on the occasion of an election 8 years ago.
John "ORDER" Bercow has a huge fanbase in Germany.
Fun content as always Mert. Just one request off topic: place a soft mat or similar under your microphone stand. Otherwise every touch of elbow or hand on your table generates an unpleasant sound. Thanks and keep em coming!
I love the „heute show“! Thank you for reacting to it 😊
Cool reaction. Greetings from nothern Germany 🤘
Nice to see that the heute-show is being enjoyed in England.
In East Germany and also in parts of West Germany, public television is unfortunately only dismissed as a lying press.
What a shame.
Greetings from Bavaria
> Nice to see that the heute-show is being enjoyed in England.
I know, it's probably just a small mistake, or meant to be a joke, but: Given his Scottish accent, that statement is kind of like saying "Nice to see that the heute-show is being enjoyed in Prussia.", if he was Bavarian.
That’s sadly a misconception spread by far right wing media financed by Russia.
@@scifino1we Scottish are used to being called English … the way the UK political system is constructed is understandably confusing for foreigners.
Great that you liked the show. They're making fun of everyone and as you see the sarcasm is all over the place. They're treating the germans even harder. Small note: I would like to visit GB, perhaps I can afford it in my life because it's a country with so much history and much more!

I really appreciate and like your reviews about German comedy!
Man you are a good one. Trying to understand everyones point of view. A german talking here. Keep going.
1:25 For me the joke here is that a consequential decision like this shouldn’t be taken when public opinion is so fragile, it depends in the daily mood what way it would go.
Love your takes on the heute show. And I find your accent very fascinating.
4:40 german Parlament doesnt even show up 🤣
4:47 Actually, this ist funny because in Germany the 'states' (="Bundesland") like the Host mentioned Bavaria and Saxony as well as the other 14 ones have the possibility to have own regulations inside of their areas. Like the facemask wearing in public areas during Corona, the amount of legal grams for Weed your allowed to carry with you (Bavaria ist the only one with 0.000 grams and in the Western and northern Germany people smoke in public next to the Police and dont get arrested... ) or other legal regulations can be more or less strictly regulated in each "Bundesland".
OK first of
I can see you're evolving - your commentary gets better every time. Way more engaging!!
The way you respond to certain things is very thoughtful or funny sometimes and really adds something to the source you're using.
Big improvement there!! Keep going.

PS: heute show is also known for whacking German things: like public transportation or German parties. Everybody gets trashed.
And if you still want recommendations I give you:
- Das Boot (1990s, a German film about a German submarine and crew in WWII. I think it won an Oscar. Or multiple? Idk)
- anything the "ZDF" and "Arte" have produced if you're looking for educational (German TV program. Tells you all about culture/history you ever needed to know)
- however, if you're looking for something funny I'd recommend you "Torsten Sträter" - he's a comedian. From the Ruhrgebiet (a very specific type of West Germany). He was in first season of "LOL", you should look that up. Although I'm not sure of subtitles?
I'll write them just so you can react
It caused me pain too. Greetings from Münster.
thank you so much, love and peace and subscribed from germany :D:D:D tha twas real fun.
"Die toten Augen von London" (The dead eyes of London) is a famous trhiller (or rather "Krimi") from the 60s based on a book by Edgar Wallace. Germany produced almost 40 of these flicks for the local market: all of the actors were German (with few exceptions) and the stories were set in England. This is what the fictious title refers to, not some kind of Romero-esque zombie flick.
Ultimately, most people here in Germany were just appalled at the extreme stupidity and ignorance of the UK connection. In the beginning it was still great pity that they felt, then it turned into incomprehension and ended in frustration at such persistent stupidity. That's why they said (no, shouted) at the end - please leave finally - but actually everyone would have been happy if the Brits had stayed. That was just a classic own goal
Yeah, we should surrender our sovereignty for no gain. You Germans are quickly learning to hate the EU as much as we do.
1:24 -> Flames ... Flames ... Flames on the side of my face😁
You might be interested in extra 3 too. In germany we have multiple political satire shows with the 2 biggest being "Heuteshow" and "Extra 3" i think. I can absolutely recommend both

From my German perspective of the British Parliament, it's very combative and very entertaining. Now one can be of the opinion that a parliament should not be entertaining, but serious. But when MPs argue and act childish, more people watch and, as a result, more people are better informed about what's going on in politics.
I personally liked John Bercow. He always reminded me a bit of Norbert Lammert, the former President of the Bundestag. I liked that he also has a sense of humor.
This sounds to me like "bring pretty girls in short clothes to the parliament", more people would watch and would be better informed.
@@Delibro if the pretty girls would actually talk about politics and make laws, then sure why not
@@faketheo3432 Well yea, half true. Some more people would watch indeed, but many would only watch girls and don't get any syllable of politics.
I think the 'entertainment' aspect of British politics was a major contributory factor with Brexit - For many it was only to do with an enjoyable feeling; was quite trivial and had nothing to do with reality
@@mossfitz I don't quite understand how more combative and consequently more entertaining debates can be connected to Brexit.

This is soothing. It’s distracting me from the fact that my tuition was tripled as a result of this ludicrous decision.
There are a few translation errors or inaccuracies: "Brennpunktschule" is not primary school - it is a School with trouble. "Baldrian-Bundestag" is anything but a benzodiazepine Bundestag. Valerian is used as a sedative, but it is not a benzodiazepine.
