Changpuek is a legend a legendary fighter my favorite K1 fighter his fights are always soo brutal and fun, Win or Lose he remains one of my favorite fighters of all time.
Great video and commentary two strong styles with two strong fighters I also like that spin back kick back in the late 60s early 70s Benny Urquidez made that his signature kick ending many fights with it
i've heard that Dutch kickboxing training just involves a lot of full-strength sparring; there must be a lot of attrition but the people who come out of it (who probably start with a genetic endowment of rapid healing and general robustness) have a ton of fight experience equivalent to actual matches in the ring
That would explain why they retroceded instead of maturing their art. The 80-90s dutchs had a style that clearly wasn't fully integrated with itself, but had a lot of nuance. Today they fight as if afraid, following a very limited moveset, which makes sense if they don't focus on light spar to develop subtle skills, like varied defense and control moves (long jab and mae geri). Rico Verhoeven being an exception, though he is in his late 30s
Sooner or later this comment section will be filled with Kyokushin and Muay Thai fanatics creating st-pid dramas with immature insults, anti Japanese and Thai comments, and braindead misconceptions on both arts. It's always like that on this website and other forums. Why not combine the strengths of both Kyokushin and Muay Thai like Zendokai, Kudo and Shidokan? Even Thailand itself has a Thai branch of Zendokai with Japanese Thai instructors.
I love seeing someone that knows how to throw good elbows. Elbows are my favorite strike. I trained very heavily on being able to throw elbows from any angle when in close range or in the clench.
Lmao the jab at kyokushin for not having defense was too hilarious. Dunno why muay thai guy didn't clinch more. Kyokushin guy had hands and had the Nak muay shelling. Perfect time to clinch up and start sweeping, dumping and kneeing.
Amazing fight. Smit is tough as hell if he can manage to take out a legend like Kiatsongrit, so what I have to say is in no way meant to take away from what he has accomplished. I can't help but feel as though Kiatsongrit miscalculated in this fight and that's what cost him. He's a guy that has fought other styles in the past so he is used to taking on different types of fighters and he must have assumed Smit would remain vulnerable to leg kicks like most Karate stylists which is where it all went wrong. The two areas that Kyokushin fighters don't seem to register pain or damage is the legs and the torso and they can spend all day eating shots in those places. Muay Thai leg kicks tend to be a little more potent that Kyokushin as you can see by watching them exchange but it wasn't enough this time around.
The kicks in the leg hurt man, i would always start blocking with shin when the pain was to intense on the thigh. Couple shin against shin blocks, and almost all lose the urge to use that leg more in the match.
Not exactly a fair match up. Thai guy has to fight a bigger, heavier and longer reach opponent. Would have loved to see John Wayne Par vs Karate. I think that would have been great. BTW this Thai fighter fought Rick Rufus. The #1 kickboxing champion and defeated him through sheer grit and will power.
Dutch kickboxers train realistically. We do two things which are: 1. some combo drills 2. sparring 1. Drills consist of combinations of simple basic techniques and serve the purpose to improve flow and hone technique in the context of a real scenario (so not like kihon where the technique is isolated from the bigger picture). 2. Sparring is ment to accumulate experience and simulating a real fight.
Peter Smit was a Dutch Style kickboxer, which is a hybrid between Muay Thai and Kyokushin. Also, Peter Smit used to frequently train at Sityodtong camp, which is the greatest Muay Thai gym. So, how is Peter just a Kyokushin fighter lol?! You should be calling him a Dutch style kickboxer.
@@AroundElvesWatchUrselves96 It doesn't matter whether his name is karate or judo or sanda or teakuando or kungfu but since the fight is under Muaythai rules it's Muaythai fight. It's a fight between westerner against local.
The audacity to called Changpuek Kiatsongrit a random lmao😂. He was a natural mid weight that fought heavyweight around the world the like of Jerome Le Banner, Rick Rufus, Andy Hug.
Gotta love a classic Muay Thai Vs Kyokushin Slug fest. This ref was annoying and aside from favoring the mauy thai guy, kept getting way to close. I love 3:46 where he payed the price for it.
Peter are the Kyokushin Karate lightheavyweight European champion of 1987 a True Warrior, I respect a Lot everyone who have Balls to fight with Thai Rules these Guys are Monsters.
Peter Smit vs Patrick Smith made one of best fight of story of Kyokushin, Peter are known as the Diamond of Kyokushin one of the best Kyokushin fighter.
Tough fight. I see a lot of " traditional" stances, punches, and hand guard from the karate fighter. He didn't bob and wesve or damce around like Ali. It convinces me enough to say you don't have to give up your tradional style of punching for boxing.

This makes Peter Smith's victory more convincing about the effectiveness of a martial art practiced in a real way. Honor to both of them.

the Jet was great! Nullifying the clinch with judo throws was so beautiful

Zendokai mentioned 👊 that's my karate lineage, great style

Thai men will never admit that they can be defeated by kyokushin.

Kyokushin and Shidokan the best

3:58 is when he clocked out from an elbow about, wobbled ngl, then took another 10 seconds of beating before falling. Gonna have some brain damage.
I'm surprised they're the same weight class!
Rip Peter smit. They shot him like 20 years ago while helping his friend to get his watch back
At 3:47 that punch looked like the Karate guys head almost hit the referee
Peter Smit 🥲
We'll definitely do more videos on Peter Smit soon!
Muay Thai is just a copy of Kun Khmer. 😁😁😁😁😁😁
I think that kick on the ground really got the muay Thai fighter. I'd like to see a rematch without the bs cheating from karate guy.
he is just too much taller than the Muay Thai guy.. difficult for any art
Kyokushin??? lol don't lie bro😂
I don't see kyokushin style here it's just muaythai vs muaythai by westerner against local guy.
Lol Peter Smit was a European Kyokushin champ. He even had the Kyokushin kanji on his chest

Those frequent spin kicks don’t happen at that frequency among pure Thai fighters
Looks like a big weight disparity. Dutch are good because they hard spar and are some of the largest humans on the planet.
Guessing 15lbs?
This is the demonstration that every martial art works if it's practiced correctly and in a more real and effective way.

I didnt even notice until rewatching that muay thai guy accidentally hit the ref at 3:46 😝😝
Peter are the Kyokushin Karate lightheavyweight European champion of 1987 a True Warrior, I respect a Lot everyone who have Balls to fight with Thai Rules these Guys are Monsters.
He actually fought Peter smit again later that year and won a five round decision.
Peter Smit vs Patrick Smith made one of best fight of story of Kyokushin, Peter are known as the Diamond of Kyokushin one of the best Kyokushin fighter.
I hope you guys know that the Muay Thai glazers don’t actually train and we don’t claim them 😂
Holy cow! That Smit guy is GOOD
Sadly Peter retired in 1991 would de epic see him against Andy Hug in K1 the true GOAT of Kyokushin.
Onefc muay thai has better fights than traditional muay thai in stadiums in thailand especially regarding judges decisions

yeah this is one of the best matches i ever seen on yt😊😊

Nah he has a pretty good Muay Thai record.
277-61-5 was his record. That's a lot of fights.
J@@dmfaccount1272still beaten by Kyokushin. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
