In this video tutorial I show you ho to make a simple elastic waist skirt. This is a great beginner project that can be made in any size. All you need is two simple measurements and about 1/2 yard of fabric (for up to a 3T size), one yard of elastic and your basic sewing supplies.
With the warm weather coming in this is a must-make DIY project! It's so easy you will want to make at least a dozen! As far as how much time it takes to make one-- I would say that the first time you do it it may take you about 1 hour. After that you will know how it comes together and can probably whip them up in 30 minutes or less! It takes me about 15 minutes to make one these.
I hope you enjoy this video tutorial for this simple little girl's skirt. Feel free to leave me a comment letting me know what other types of kid sewing projects you'd like to see me make some videos on.

Oh my goodness, THANK YOU!
I couldn’t find a video with enough information to actually teach me, I’ve never made anything before and I found this video perfect and super helpful.
Glad to help!
My nine year old daughter and I made this together. It was her first real clothing sewing project. The video was clear and easy to follow. Thanks!
Thank you so much. It will be my first time making my granddaughter a skirt. I’ve never sewn anything in my life. You made it look so easy. I’m going to try.
Thank you for your super quick response! I will be trying this for my great, great niece who is 2 1/2 years old.
Wonderful!
This was the perfect skirt for our kindergarten play! We're doing nursery rhymes and I needed some sweet little skirts! Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I literally took my new sewing machine out of the box (first time touching a sewing machine in 17 years (since I took a very brief sewing class at 14 years old...), and this was the very first thing I sewed. I didn't even do practice stitches.
The instructions were so clear, I had no problems sewing a skirt for my 3 year old daughter while she napped. I am so pleased!
I see a summer filled with skirts for her :-D
Yay! I'm so happy to hear that! GO YOU! Keep up the great work. :)
I hated this video try making a winter coat
I love how thorough you are from the measurements down to the sewing, perfect perfect perfect. Thanku so much
the simplest and clearest tutorial on UA-cam. am about to make one for my 3 yr old child.
You break the down each step which make it simple to follow. I made so many little shirts like this when my daughter was little (23 now) my friends thought I was spending big time. I was using old pretty pillowcases, husband old shirts, curtain, and 1/2 yard of fabric which really is cheap regardless of price because you only need a little. Clothing is super cheap today, but you can never bet the care and love with homemade
Skirts, auto word not always the best
So true.
wow, thank you so much for this tutorial, it is very simple that i followed every steps. i do not have all the materials that you have for cuttings but i manage to use what i have at the moment, and YEY i just made my first little girls skirts. thanks again, looking forward to learn more from watching your videos. Lord bless
Thank you. I'm a first grade teacher and my students are performing for Christmas. I wanted to make skirts for my girls but I didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on fabric. Your skirt was the perfect solution. I sewed eight skirts in like 4 hours and then my volunteer parents hot glued silver garland along the bottom and they look super great. Thank you so very much.
I ordered the pillowcase pattern from Crafty Gemini and I was so glad that I did. This is a wonderful tutorial with lots of tips for sewing the skirt nicely. Thank you!
I LOVE THIS TUTORIAL! It took less than 45 minutes to make. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much Vanessa! I just made this for my 18" doll and it looked perfect!
The step were very simple and easy to follow.
Once again, thank you!
Love how quickly and easily you made this skirt.Thank you, Vanessa!
First time sewing since 2009! These instructions were simple & clear to follow. My daughter loves matching her dolls & now she can! Thank you, can't wait to check out your other videos!
Thank you!! Very easy to follow...already made 1 skirt the other day and we immediately went to the craft store for more fabric...while wearing her new skirt of course! Got some compliments too! Thanks again Crafty Gemini...me and my 5 year old daughter love your videos!
I’ve come back this tutorial over and over again. Thank you for sharing!!
You are awesomeness in a bottle! My mother gave me her sewing machine yesterday, it's the first time I've used one in 19 years in my 6th grade home economics class. I do a little hand repair stitching but nothing major! I made a little simple purse for my daughter today and had some fabric left over so I decided to try your tutorial! Did it in no time flat with practically zero experience on a sewing machine! That you for your wonderful spirit and desire to teach others! My 4 yr old daughter is jumping for joy right now with her little skirt on!
You're awesome!
Thank you!
I enjoy helping my granddaughter sew simple projects. This was our project today. She is 7. The skirt turned out great. Thanks!!
I love the way you explain everything so clearly.. keep up the good work!!..thanks chica
To make it even simpler do the hem before you do the elastic! xx

grt tutorial. Grt tip on the elastic.
I stitch up the hem before the elastic so it helps me handle straight material.
This was wonderful. Thank you so much. My daughter, 10, got a sewing machine from her Uncle Paul, yesterday, for Christmas. Today we have made a tartan skirt using your tutorial - it looks great, and so quick and easy for a child and a beginner. We are going to her Uncle Paul's for tea soon so she is wearing her skirt to show him. xx Merry Christmas.
I have watched so many diy videos of how to make a simple skirt for kids and by far, your video is the easiest!!! Thank you so so much for being you and letting us amateurs learn from your ways. Great video! I just started sewing and your directions are easy to follow!
I am an experienced sewing/quilter and am always looking for sewing projects to use with my granddaughters, ages 3rd and 5th grades. They have made other projects with me and I think this skirt would be a perfect project for my 3rd grade granddaughter. I have learned.......always let her pick the fabric she wants and she will be thrilled to death with the project and can't wait to get started. Thanks for the idea!
This is the first video I have seen of yours- wow!! You give simply stupendous instructions!! Thank you so much! I’ll be faithfully watching your channel 🥰
Simply amazing. Best video
You explain very well. Made it easy to understand!!
i love this video. what a nice fabric. superb!
I am definitely going to try this skirt for my soon-to-be 6 year old. She likes wearing skirts but she's really slim. I'd like to see how you would revamp an old pair of jeans into a skirt by either adding fabric past the pockets or by removing the inseam, kids or adults. I'm always looking for ways to remake school clothes from the previous year for them to wear over the summer.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I will be making this for my ten year old sister, she LOVES dresses and skirts of any kind. She will be so excited that she can pick her pattern and fabric. It's very difficult finding things that fit her comfortably so this will be great. For anyone out there wondering if this skirt is ONLY for toddlers, it's not! :)
OMG I am INN LOVE with your channel!!!
