As Pat said when running for President.." I know what America wants...in fact , I try to get a little myself "...truely a great comic. Always fun to watch.
I THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD.I am so glad he ran. I have voted for him every time there was a presidential election because he was the best choice there was. The perfect politician!
One of my favorite memories is being an opening act for Pat at Stanfords Comedy House in Wichita, Ks. He was so kind and gracious with my upstart little self. I was the editor of a monthy rag in Sioux City, Iowa in 2000...I ran him for President then...and may ...nay, WILL do so again in 2012. He is no more dead than Perry, Bachman, Cain, Romney....etcetera and so on infinitum...
Mason Williams who did Classical Gas also came from the Smothers Brothers as he was a writer. Pat was great. I wasn't quite old enough to vote for him though.
Mason Williams was also his campaign manager and the whole campaign was his idea. Mason was the Head-Writer of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and hired Steve Martin for the show too and paid him from his own pocket. He also helped pioneer MTV. Our modern culture owes quite a lot to Mason, you just wouldn't know it because he doesn't get credit.
I was amazed a few years ago when I found out that Mason Williams who wrote and performed "Classical Gas" (yes, he was the original performer of this piece, not Glen Campbell who made the song famous)...after hearing Mason's song on this skit makes it seem that much more surreal that such a musical genius could have also been a staff writer on the Smothers Bros. show that I loved as a young teen. Had I known that Mason Williams way back then was the composer and performer of "Classical Gas" it would REALLY have blown my mind, esoterically since I had one of Campbell's first albums called 'Mr. 12 String Guitar' where he introduced the greater listening public to the song "Classical Gas," which I think I thought at around the age of 12 that he, not Mason Williams composed. I do think though the styles are a tad bit different in playing the composition by Mason and Campbell and that I seem to like the way Campbell plays it more....specially when in live performances that I've seen on UA-cam where he does some xtra riffs on the tune, not on the original piece.
I grew up in Cloverdale, CA, Pat's hometown. He would always sneak in to the yearly Citrus Fair Parade with a car and a Pat for President banner. Funny guy! I still write him in when all of the candidates running for POTUS are completely repulsive. LOL
I miss him. Had the pleasure to meet and even work with him - what a nice man. Great video.
"The greatest dimension of freedom is knowing the choice you can never make is the choice you've never heard of." - Pat Paulsen
Thanks for posting...He was a comic genius and made America laugh at itself.
I honestly would vote for him over either of the choices we have coming to us in November.
Thank you very much for posting this! I remember him well. He would have made a great president!
He died 19 years ago today. An extremely gifted comic, great writer and flawless performer.
Pat was so fun to watch doing these skits. Miss him.

Priceless. Truly priceless.
I remember watching as a young person on the Smothers Brothers show. Great comedy. Clean comedy.
It's called 'Classical Gas' and was recorded by Mason Williams.
The only man I could vote for without holding my nose.
Well done!

Where is Pat Paulsen when we need him? What a funny man he was.
THANKS. VERY NICE JOB. A REALLY FUNNY AND INTERESTING MAN. WELL DONE.
I think of him every time an election rolls around.
Music by Mason Williams, a writer on Smos. Bros. Comedy Hour

I voted for him 27 times....
I loved this man! I'd still vote for him.
Made me pine for those simpler years.
And that's the way it was... Til tomorrow, good night.
I recognize that piece of music, but I can't place it.
What is it?
Classical gas
I wish Pat Paulsen was still alive to run for President. Btw, what is that song starting when the slide show starts, sounds familiar.
Classical Gas
Full marks!
