Another point: my husband is a long bearded combat veteran, rides a Harley, and people never fail to make assumptions on his character based on appearance. I make no apologies for wanting a traditionally masculine man. I'm a very feminine woman. We have traditional roles, by choice. He respects me, cherishes me and I, in turn, respect him for all his contributions. There's nothing *toxic* about a man being traditionally masculine.
Same here. I love that mine is more traditionally masculine. He once jumped between me and an aggressive dog that was going to bite me. I never forgot it even though it happened years ago. He was terrified but he still did it because he loves me.
in my experience, most "masculine" and maybe "threatening" looking men are really teddy bears inside. IMO it's because they're confident and don't need validation.
I grew up with very gender-normative parents, so I know that it can work.

When I was 13-14 years old, my mother, who is a social worker, took me to a lecture at her job, which was about domestic violence. She felt that as a man I should attend such a seminar to learn how bad domestic violence is. I was happy to attend because I always considered it a bad thing. The first thing the woman who gave the lecture said was that she was a lesbian. Ok, no one asked her, but ok. The next thing she said was that she wouldn't start teaching as long as I was there. Everyone was shocked, and logically my mother mostly. I was the only man, and the other women rebelled and said it was discrimination, that I was a boy and that I should hear those things. My mother got into a heated argument with her and told her that if there was no room for me there she would not attend either. However this woman who taught said that either I am going or she will not start talking. Not wanting to put my mother in an awkward situation, because it was her job after all, I got up and left. I have never felt so humiliated in my life.

So while some emotions should be ignored at certain times, *yes* it is perfectly okay to cry regardless of your gender. My cousin is a high school teacher at a school in a low income area, and is also the boys baseball coach. He's the closest thing to a father figure for many of these boys, and I respect the hell out of him for making sure these boys have a strong male role model!

I am a single male and dating is a nightmare. Something as simple as holding a door for a date is grounds for an argument on "toxic stereotypes". I have begun getting more thrilled about spending time with my dog than going on dates. I know good women with common sense are out there, but the search is getting more scarce.
Consider this: by being who you are and who you want to be, and by hearing these women complain about this, you are not spending months in meaningless relationships, while these women show their teeth. Now is the time, when they feel they are supported by society, and now they don't hide their venom.

Since the first time I heard it, I have always been highly suspicious of the term “Toxic Masculinity.” To me, if a behavior is toxic, then it simply isn’t masculine, but a corruption away from it. Also, thank you for drawing attention to the seething hatred behind how so many men have been mistreated. Any victim of abuse deserves compassion and help. Accusing them of misogyny simply because they felt abused… that is so evil.
I will agree that toxic masculinity is a corruption, or it really is a display of an attempt to hide insecurities or other issues.
But I don't have anything against the term, since it really explains what it is in my opinion.

I have quite dynamic emotions but am also a pretty tough boi . No one usually messed with me. Though lately I have closed off my overt emotions , due to a traumatic experience. Who even knows. Well aware of the narrative and agenda though, I did 8 years in family court as a man. 4 dismissed refusals to attend "anger management" a whole host of leftist court appointed females out for blood, a natural refusal to comply undeserved punishment, even an outright refusal with jai time threatened if I wouldn't comply with the phony order.
And guess what. Nothing happened. Nothing. It empty threats and is turning men from women and our children. They cannot stand a strong, uncompromising, incorruptible male father role model. I wonder what my daughter will think of all this not just family courts but how she's been alienated from me her loving father and being exposed to this disgusting agenda.

One of the most significant experiences in my sons education was a male teacher in the second grade. He taught my son so much beyond reading etc, including discipline with respect and kindness, expectations and other masculine traits. I am forever grateful for this teacher as is my son who is today a teacher.
Honestly, this discussion is really simple: stop telling people what to do. Stop telling men to be less masculine. Stop telling men to be more masculine. Let people do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t harm anyone directly. It’s fine that women have preferences. It’s fine for a woman to say that she will not be attracted to a man who wears a dress, but it is not okay for anyone to tell them that they aren’t allowed to. Same thing goes with basically everything else. I’m not attracted to girls with blue hair, but I am not going to tell anyone that they shouldn’t dye their hair blue if that is what they want. I even said that I don't like it when people dictate others in how exactly to behave (it irritates me, for instance, when men dictate what is masculine/manly and what is not). Boys are falling behind. I tell my son to never be ashamed of his talents, intelligence and accomplishments. All too often he comes home and says he got the best grade on a test or something, but is admonished by the teacher when he feels excited in class by his performance. The dismantling of competition based on skill, intelligence or some other measure, robs boys of a sense of accomplishment.

I took my kids out of school. I have three boys. They really thrived once they were out. I gave them the choice of staying in or homeschooling and they all chose to learn from home. They are respectful, kind, helpful and they love volunteering in our community. I wish I could have done this, because school was terrible. Then again, back when I was in school starting from the early 80s, we could also be physically punished in school, so I’m sure that acted as a deterrent. Now it’s mental abuse they are dolling out.

That's this notion of "equity" that they are pushing so hard. It doesn't allow for success, it doesn't allow for people to thrive, to shine, to excel, it doesn't allow for greatness, it only allows for one thing: everybody being pushed down to the "equal" level of the lowest common denominator. Meaning all people will ultimately be forced down to illiteracy and abject poverty and serfdom. It's a process that has already long since began, and is progressing more and more every day. It may take a little while for us to get down to that rock bottom level, but we are on our way and accelerating toward it constantly, and we will get there soon enough if nothing is done to change it or to stop it.

There is an larger aspect of physical strength and ability for boys that is needed for them grow into a healthy and happy adult.
Emotional suppression is an extremely toxic trait, whether for men or for women. Emotional control and understanding are positive and necessary disciplines that, again, both men and women should work towards.

One of the many issues is that we don’t allow men to have their own space. We don’t let them be creative in they way that men have been in the past. As you commented, strong male role models are needed for future men to succeed.A family man can teach boys how to treat women. I was luckily to have both of my grandfathers around me when I was growing up. They taught me several life lessons that have benefited me to this day. It seems most young men could benefit spending time with the older generation.

I am late responding to this, but I am so sick (as a woman) of society pushing the message that I need to be more assertive and man-like. I quite like domestic life, and am soon wanting to start a family. I am young, and in the peak time of my life to bring children into the world. Also, it is so toxic to make fun of women who are more "traditional," too. The women who love make-up, high heels, and everything. I only like some jewelry, and light make-up, but still. Women need to stop defining that being a woman in this modern day means having to act more manly.
On another note, as a child of a single mother, my mom did the best she could raising me. But, I wish I had had a father; according to studies, children need fathers. Children growing up without them have a higher rate of depression, and mental disorders.
Yes, I realize that in the modern day, it is important to have both parents working (especially with the economy the way it is). But, I am fine with living being a stay-at-home mom, because my job would be to raise my beloved children to become good, and responsible members of society. That is a very important duty.

Women have such an excess in choice for clothing shopping that they literally become racked with indecision from it when they lack the capital to spend on what they like, I've witnessed this on many occasions and it is alternately both hilarious and horrifying.
It's their excessive fashion privilege in stores that effectively denies us any real choice in shopping for clothing.
Go into any department store and check out the clothing sections.
You will immediately notice that mens fashion takes up less than a single floor - often less than half a floor.
Meanwhile womens fashion takes up usually 2, sometimes even 3 floors.
So to be painfully honest I don't give a flying fuck for any over privileged womans opinion of male dress code - when men have an equal share in choice again they can be judgemental till their hearts content.
As it is it sounds a lot like salty fear that fashion designers might actually start pandering to men for real for the first time in 2-3 centuries since mens fashion started down the road towards the ultra conservatism it exists in now.

I really agree with the education part. At 16 I was a bit "out of control", more like not being myself and was very lazy. If it wasn't for a very good male teacher of mine (maths teacher), I don't know if my life would have been the same. He told me he was proud of my previous academic achievements, but had fallen extremely behind lately. He then asked me if everything was alright and if I needed help (he also "challenged" to do better the next semester and he would give me a better overall grade). As a "man", I did not really give him much feedback, but his desire to help and just him approaching me was a very important milestone in my life. I had countless female teachers, but none of them took their time with me. tldr: a man needs male (and masculine) role models.
There are good female teachers that care about boys. My uncle was about to be sent to a correctional facility, but his teacher visited his parents and talked them out of it and the young thief and problem child became a pastor later on thanks to her standing up for him and defending his future.
But overall I agree, would be great if there were more male teachers, we need a better balance.

That teacher part legit hit me hard. I was just talking to my mom about my middle school days. My female class teacher at the time used to make me sit with 'intelligent' students and told me it would help me since "they knew more than I did.". I legit carried the belief that this would always be true, that I would never be as good as those students.3 years later my maths teacher came along, and I started to attend his extra classes since I was a weak student. He told the class on my first day there," Beware of him! He has the potential to be the best here.". Those words of encouragement were boon to me. I realised how I was undervaluing myself. I studied hard, he encouraged me. Later on in high school (probably the best years of my life NGL), I carried it on with the same belief, that I was enough to get myself anywhere. Not to brag, but I became the vice-captain of my team, broke the districts record for marks in physics and chemistry. I would like to thank you, Mr. Arora, I wouldn't be in my dream college if you hadn't encouraged me.❤️

Currently? In Western culture? Mostly the fact that femininity (being a woman) is seen as lesser. People, individually, might say they don't see it as lesser, however, using feminine traits/terms/etc. as insults, or as means of describing how you feel... "feminized" vs. "emasculated," even though, even in the definition of emasculate it associated femininity with cowardice ("make effeminate and cowardly").
Feminine traits are bad. Masculine traits are good. This is society's message. Predominantly feminine jobs aren't valued as much. Computer programming used to be female-dominated. The position got paid more when men took over the position, mostly. Hell, female work isn't valued as much. As more women become Biologists, the pay drops... same happened with Designers.
I'm hardly a raging feminist. I look at facts, though, and facts are unfortunate, in many cases... for both sides. I'd like to think we can be different but equal, but we can see how that went in the Jim Crow South... it takes both sides being equally _valued,_ equally elevated. But, as long as there are "chick flicks," "chick lit," etc... I don't think equality is in the cards... unless we are gonna start calling some books "dick lit," or something... where the woman is not "the other."

I don't mean to be that guy, but biology has shaped us in ways that in the current year we still do not fully comprehend. I think it is silly to compare men and women as it is more of a apples to oranges comparison we are similar in some ways, but are different on more than just a skin deep level. The way we think, act, and carry ourselves is shaped some by our upbringing and environment for sure, but also by virtue of our sex in others. The jim crowe comparison is a bad comparison on a few levels, as those laws where made to sabotage and subvert the budding black middle class in the 50s, and secondly their is very little difference between a average black man and another average man. Where as the average man and woman compared the difference can be quite jarring in most cases. I'm a man who has quite a lot of feminine qualities. Like I'm drawn towards caring jobs that are mostly done by women, I'm better at talking about emotions than putting up a shelf and so on. And I enjoy being this way. But in recent years I've noticed that any time I express masculine qualities, I get shot down and accused of being egotistical. I've also dated a few women who hated masculinity, yet were attracted by it, so basically the relationships were confusing AF. I've noticed that the more manly of my male friends are having a hard time, made to feel bad about themselves for being who they are. I'm cool with people not being super constricted by their gender roles... but society has already made this possible. What's happening now with the demonisation of masculinity is to me part of a wider pattern of human disempowerment, basically it makes us easier to control.
I think that most people forgot what masculinity actually means. It's not agressive Rambo-like violent, or Han Solo opressive flirt - charisma. It's being compassionete, thoughtful, brave (being brave means winning the fight with your fears). Being masculine is also something to be proud of, just like women should be proud of their unique traits (not acting like ,,toxic masculinity" they have commonly issues with, to prove they are ,,not weak"...).
That said, man needs to be a bit like a women (for example - caring), and women a bit like man (for example - brave). I don't know it that makes any sense, but I am sure that it's great to have femine qualities, as long as they are positive traits (it's hard to deny, that both of us are born with flaws). We are born men and women, to learn from each other and live in peace, not compete...

As a mom of 2 boys & 1 girl, this makes me so sick. I hate that today it’s seen as such a bad thing to be masculine! It’s really hard for me as a mom to teach them how to be a real man. Boys are pushed to be much more feminine & if you don’t agree with it your a biggot. My ex husband was brought up by hard core liberals, so he believes everyone is equal. He doesn’t understand the man’s role as a husband, father, & provider. It’s so sad and makes my life so much harder because I am a woman & don’t know how to properly teach them to be real men! 11:46 hits the nail right on the head. More and more, guys in the workforce are trying to not interact with their female co-workers as much as possible. And women who have no respect for the opposite gender are going to judge men no matter what they do. For example, I had this one job back when I was 19 and had this very beautiful female coworker who was very nice to me. She flirted with me and even gave me her number. Naturally, not knowing any better I flirted back and eventually asked her out. Next thing I know, my boss is calling me on a day off and firing me over the phone because she went right behind my back and accused me of sexually harrassing her. There was no proof. The accusation alone was enough to end my job there, and I was homeless for almost 2 years before I could recover from it. I'm a robotic welder by trade and am 35 now and when I was working for Caterpillar, there were three women who were always trying to flirt with me and get my intention. I ignored the shit out of them and just focused on my job, and learned from other co-workers that they were offended at me ignoring them and were telling everyone that I'm "shy around women". I ain't shy, I'm just older and smarter than I was when I was 19. I thought I was alone in this paranoia that I had to develop in order to survive, until my stepdad confessed to me one day that he doesn't even ride elevators alone with a woman to avoid being accused of something he ain't guilty of and he's exercised that habit longer than I've been alive.

Every time a woman has ever accused me of mansplaining the situations have been as follows.
1) Having dinner with a group of friends. The subject of philosophy comes up. A woman I have just met starts talking about Machiavelli and characterizing him as Satan. I step in and say, "If you've read Machiavelli's the Prince, then what you just described is actually very far from his philosophy." I then pointed out how he was not even remotely concerned about the subject's she was bringing up. She then accuses me of Mansplaining. I ask her if she read the book. She admits she had not... I ask how I was mansplaining? She says "of course a white male needs me to explain." I then inform her that I am actually the first generation American born child of Cuban parents (you would have thought the Spanish ass fuck name would have given it away) and that my father is half black, meaning I have, aunts, uncles and first cousins, that span pretty much every shade human beings occur in. She gets up, storms out of the restaurant, and everyone at the table looks at me like I'm the asshole.
2) Another dinner setting. I get into a debate about with a leftist Portland born 26- year old barista, where she talks about the War in Afghanistan having zero first hand knowledge, completely talking out of her ass. So I challenged her as a Marine with actually severed in Afghanistan. I very calmly informed her how she was completely wrong about the policies on the ground and how the military actually moves and functions in a combat zone. You know, the kind of esoteric knowledge one can only have if they were actually on the ground performing these tasks as a regular part of their lives for 7 months. She accuses me of mansplaining War to her.... I then point out that "you trying to educate me about war, when you have zero first hand experience is the definition of mansplaining... so you... just womansplained... Me. (I stare at her dumbfounded). She calls me a mysogynist, storms out. My friends look at.... again like I'm the jerk. THREE OF THESE DUDES SERVED WITH ME!!! I was like WTF?
This is why I moved from Portland... and got better friends.

My husband IS highly masculine, and I LOVE my femininity. We have mainly traditional roles, by choice. In my experience as a man, the single most defining aspect of masculinity is the ability to say "no" when necessary. Having an openly strong opinion with principles that you always consistently stick to is the epitome of manliness. It's the building block of a safe, strong foundation that family grows upon. Its the primary factor that acts as a mechanism of protection and trust because of the expectations of the role model father figure.

This one hits close to home. My husband and I are a married couple raising boys. We've been together 19 years, married almost 18 years. He even adopted my firstborn son when he was 10 years old (his biological father died when our son was 5 months old). We are raising GENTLEMEN, regardless of how society is trying to absolutely demolish chivalry. How society says men are trash, unneeded, and disposable... I pray there are parents out there raising daughters who will one day be SEEKING a partner who also has traditional values. It feels overwhelming most days but it's my genuine hope that our sons witnessing their married, in love, respectful, and faithful parents will show them the right path when they are old enough to start wanting a family of their own.
I grew up in a matriarchal family. Not feminist. Just a lack of men, good men. The women had to fill both roles, and couldn't teach the boys how to be good men. I am a result of this doctrine, and hate it. I have learned to mitigate the negative results to a degree. But it has been a difficult journey. And I have never seen feminized men result in good things.
