    Laura, so many UA-cam videos are pretty useless as they reflect someone quickly showing themselves doing a project but rarely take the time to “instruct” at a teachable pace. Your detailed explanation is amazing. I have been watching van life videos for four or five years and your videos are superb. Keep up the good work sister!

    I've considered purchasing a Class B van, but they are so high priced and so cheaply constructed, especially wiring. You have demonstrated to me that I might be able to do this myself with much better quality. You have thought through all of the details so thoroughly. You should be very proud of yourself!

    As someone who has been considering this for awhile now with no building experience or someone to teach me - your videos are the first that I've come across that really explain every aspect of what I thought would be my biggest hurdles (electrical, windows, fans, etc.). Makes me feel like I might actually be able to to this by myself! Can't afford to hire a builder or a built-out van, and you also happen to be building my ideal van layout. Thank you so so much for making this seem less daunting and possible! You really covered every detail a beginner would need - down to every piece of material you used. Will be back to replay your videos a million times over haha!

    I'm new to your channel, and I love watching build video's. The main reason is that every now and then you witness what I call a little act of genius, like I'd never seen the playdough trick and to make it better, the syringe for putty. Two acts in one video, it could be one in a million. There were a few places where I asked my self why you did one thing in one place but not in another but so far, I'm enjoying the lessons.

    I have watched many people build out their rigs. No one has been more detailed in explaining from the beginning to the end of every step. I don't know if you have a clue as to what that means to others. Well, I'm one of the others, and when I said thank you, I'm sure so many others would agree. Hi Lauren!
    Really enjoy your videos, enjoy the way you explained as you go along.
    At 49:44 you brad nailed your finger and you took it well, be very careful it’s easy to get hurt.
    It could had been worst, I noticed at 42:02, 42:04 and 42:08 while using the circular saw your fingers where to close to the blade.
    Be careful, GB.

    Hi,
    You are helping us so much!!!
    Thanks!!
    Question: approximately how much Baltic birch did you use? I’m estimating (for 4x8 sheets) of Baltic birch (yes that size is available yay)
    1/2”- 6 sheets
    1/4”- 2 sheets
    1/8”- 3 sheets
    Just wondering if I’m anywhere in ball park or if it’s a crazy amount

    • @LaurenLawliss
      @LaurenLawliss  5 місяців тому

      Hey! Good question. It depends on what you plan to build and what thickness you want for everything. Of course the more cabinetry you have, the more wood you will need. I purchased the following 4x8 sheets below (quantities on the left) and I planned every cut to limit waste:
      2 - 1/8”
      10 - 1/4”
      18 - 1/2”
      4 - 3/4”
      My van is 85% done so I still need to purchase some more wood for final touches but not major quantities. Your estimations seem very low to me for a full van build… very low. Doesn’t hurt to get some now and wait until you need more.

      We don’t have as much cabinetry as you do- we have ikea bed supports and less garage cabinets, only overhead cabinets, kitchen cabinet and one for toilet and a bench with frig storage. But I am probably still underestimating
      We have to travel 4 hours to Anchorage to get lumber 😩
      If you’re ever in Alaska, look us up- we live in Kenny Lake (Wrangell St. Elias National Park area- out in the boonies. We have 10 acres and a log cabin.

    Thanks to Lauren as the main source and inspiration for my own cedar plank ceiling. I did a couple things differently: Like another youtuber, I snapped chalk lines on the ceiling before putting up the cedar planks so I didn't have to start in the middle. Instead, I could start on one side and make small adjustments where necessary to keep the boards on the lines. This also made it easier to "blind nail" the planks through the tongues, which hides them. This is the way pros do T&G.

    • @LaurenLawliss
      @LaurenLawliss  18 днів тому

      Appreciate it! I did attempt a chalk line, but personally was not confident in it so I did some measuring for reassurance. I wanted to install the nails in a hidden manner like the pros do, but my boards are only a 1/4” thin and likely would have damaged the boards. Enjoy your ceiling!

    How tall are you? I'm 6'3" and am leaning toward a Transit HR. Definitely snowboard a lot, so I was thinking of a 1.5" Zip R-Sheathing floor. I haven't decided on the ceiling yet.

    • @LaurenLawliss
      @LaurenLawliss  11 місяців тому

      I am 6’. The ProMaster isn’t as tall as Transits and Sprinters but it is wider so I could put my bed wall to wall instead of front to back. My subfloor is 1/2 inch plywood and 1/4 inch vinyl planks. My ceiling is 1/2 inch furring strip and 1/4 inch tongue and groove. I cannot imagine making the floor or ceiling any thicker as it would not be comfy to standup in the van.

      @@LaurenLawliss Thank you for the information. That confirms why I didn't think the ProMaster would be for me. I remember some winter nights going below 0F.
