Really not to take anything away from other episodes. But this was one of the most fulfilling and satisfying ones you’ve done. I’m so happy for your progress. And the pizza oven is a top 10 achievement.
Very happy to see young people doing stuff using ancient and eco techniques . First time i see a oven made of clay and using "hand tools" .Very nice. And now you can make pizza and your own bread also. Keep on
As i now, that oven is normally close, do not have a Center hole (chimney) ,it need to preserve the heat inside to transfer to walls, them we remove rest os brass, and make bread and meal... a big one, takes 5 hours to get very hot, and last for 24h in working order. i thing the pipe will lost a lot of heat, a curious thing is that in the beginner of fire, the walls start very black, and passing the hours of heating, they start to get white and clean ( were we know that is starting to be good to cook. never the less, a good job done. cheers, sorry for the bad English :)
I am about to embark on the adventure of being a raw landowner myself and I look forward to all of your updates lol Thank-You for being you & doing what you do! 👍👍 Pure Awesome Sauce 🔥
I have watched at least 50 videos on building a pizza oven and yours is incredible. I have everything I need to build one like yours and you can be so creative with the tile shape. I love this video and will be building my wife the pizza oven of her dreams. Thank me you
Tile like inside the oven could replace your board you were using. Very nice Oven. By the way Antler Bone makes a good handle for door as it will stay cool to the touch and not transfer heat.
Awesome stuff! Also have a suggestion for you guys to look into. Grow a bamboo patch wherever you want to mask the highway noise the most. There is a particular satisfying sound coming of swaying bamboo sticks which is just the right amount. Also it grows really fast and is an excellent building material. Some of the bamboo sprouts are also edible. Only thing you need to take care of is making a barrier around the patch so it doesn't wander off.
A friend has a dog kennel behind his house. BIG mistake. The barking was driving them crazy. A row of bamboo solves the problem!!! Who would have thought?!
Thanks for including the mixing and testing part! For whatever reason, mixing and testing is always glossed over in UA-cam videos. Without that, you can’t actually try it yourself. I mean, I guess I could throw things together totally at random, but for that I don’t need instructions and what’s the point anyway? Regardless, thanks for the explanation.
A little tip in building the fire. Start in the door way until you get a small bed of coals, then slide it into the middle. Keeping adding wood until you get the temperature you want. I built one using the Forno Bravo design which was more round than tapered. We cooked a lot of pizzas over the years. I have to admit that we used preformed fire bricks.
I used the Forno Bravo (free) plans to build my own oven in Liguria, but I used firebricks and proper cement to make it and lots of insulation both under the bed and over the dome. I suspect the lack of insulation is preventing you getting to 400C as the bricks still had soot on them when you put the pizza in and that burns off when you get to the right temp. Also the interior is too large imo and a funny shape. The internal shape (and the chimney positioning) is important to get a swirl of fresh air feeding the fire and the smoke exiting in the upper layer. A taller, vertical chimney will help with that rather than the horizontal pipe. It's interesting to see what you're doing though and great to see you all working together. Plus any pizza made at home is better than one from the store !
Man I want to visit you all sooo badly!! For like a month. Or a summer. It is so desirable what you are doing! Thank you so much for lettin us be the part of your journey and progress! It really is a pleasure.
you must be so a good friend 😁 we need more people like you.. you are sharing your land... and everyone is welcome and help improve 💚❤❤💚 so cool all young people going to the countryside to live off grid !! you gonne create a beautifull community 💯💯💯 hope one day i can come and help ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼 much love from 🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪
I feel this is a great infrastructure addition as it's not only good for making pizzas but works great for baking bread, casseroles, fritatas, & more! It was great to see more faces in the kamp army too! I enjoyed seeing the process involved as well as the interesting tiled pattern which was quite different from the DiY earthen ovens I've seen before. As for the board in front of the oven, perhaps you could try Shou Sugi Ban (Japanese burnt wood + oil treatment that will thoroughly dry the wood & make it fire resistant). As always, looking forward to the next update!
Using a spirit level as a screed, my dad would have yelled at me for doing that! :P Great job, looks like a good oven. Only tip I have is to never roll pizza dough, always press and stretch :)
An easy way to speed up your tile making for square tiles isnmakena simple mold. It helps you get more uniform thickness for aore even product. You cam just use scrap wood to make a simple square slap your clay in and scrap over the top to remove excess then just lift the mode and boom you have a tile.
You should consider building an aquaponics system with raised beds to plant and also growing fish at the same time. I guess the IBC systems are the easiest.
Followed you from the start of your journey love it we are from Australia we want to buy a small property in Spain also looking at Portugal cant wait for 37 regards Adrian and Assunta
Thanks for a great video. I’m planing to build one my self next summer ( been planning for many years, but now i got some good clay up from the ground). Really liked the bricks and the pattern they make, inspired to try that my self. So thanks for sharing, and I will look around on your channel and see what other videos you have, and press the button of course. 😊👍 Love and peace.
It's lovely, I always loved to see the how it's made videos. It would be lovely to be there and participate in the building, but it's not always possible. Anyway I am happy to see the team spirit :) It looked a bit like hippies have great time, but in same time I love the level of precisity, the leveling and engineering for future issues. It's a great ballance in my opinion. Keep on doing the good work. Looking forward to see the next adventure :)
You should have made a mold for the tiles by making out of lumber a U shape. Pack in the clay mixture into the shape, slowly remove it from the mold by tipping it over then using a wire cut through it the depth that you want the tiles. then just let them dry. They will be somewhat the same size.
It’s cool to have so many people to work on the projects… You guys are lucky that everyone gets along, which is always a problem with any group of people… But who is the owner of the land?! All of you? Or some kind of a co-op?
look for an old window sill made of granite or marmor to place it in front of the ovendoor. I would like to give you one, got so many here at home. The problem is that i am from germany, i think its to far away for just a board of stone:P great videos!
we actually found a gravestone manufacturer close to the property - but we focused on finishing the oven first. There is also a need for a nice wooden roof to protect the oven from rain.. :)
I think Italy cried a little when she rolled the dough with a rolling pin. You should use cornflower om your table to spread the dough and on your peel to roll the pizza into the oven.
Was a bit worried this was becoming a hippy commune, but you all seem like nice people, just helping each other out. Whilst of course using less plastics. I guess the group sex I just a bonus!
Have you ever heard of "The Victorian Farm"? It's a British tv show (now on you tube) It features Ruth Goodman (historian) Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands (archeologists) they live for a year as Victorian farmers. In one of he episodes they work to restore the forge in the village blacksmith's shop where they are living - this entails making hundreds of clay bricks. They used a wooden molds to shape the clay - this meant that each brick was of equal size and thickness. It's interesting to watch and they do authentic Victorian (1800's) hand made things - like baskets and bricks using only hand tools. They are helped by experts in these crafts.
As an Italian, I'm thrilled that pizza is one of your guilty pleasures. However, let me be honest: when we see you rolling out the dough with a rolling pin, it's almost like a sacrilege to us! Real pizza is only stretched by hand!
The dystopia words of Klaus Schwabb reminds me of this camp oven build "You will own Nothing! and you will be Happy!" But it seems you are finding your own destiny before the elite do and that is commendable, not many would live like this by choice.
Maybe you could use some more of the terracotta tiles from the floor of the oven for the front surface? It would all tie together visually then as well
@@ric_dk-9520 agreed, a stone slab would work best, just thought there might be some more spare tiles, which would mean not needing to acquire anything else…

Yes if you disregard the fire tiles, metal chimney, and steel base that was welded :)
TIP: to avoid snagging the pizza paddle on the tile edges when scooping a pizza out, lay the floor tiles on a diagonal to door entry.
That's a great tip indeed!
too late ;)
For me you are on time! Thankss
It's always encouraging to see how adaptable young people still are.

Replace the wooden board with ceramic tiles. Heat durable and can be cleaned easy.
