Anyone - anyone - who thinks Eric Clapton is overrated: are you serious? From the heart through his arms to his fingers through the amps to my soul. All of these rankings: A is better than B, etc. Dickey Betts (rip) was asked about Duane Allman and Derek Trucks. His answer: this isn’t a competition. It’s music. Enjoy it while you are still alive.

Now your getting into the very heart of blues, that’s prime , Eric Clapton is the very best . His catalog is extensive, you could play a song a day and take long time to get to the end, come to summer fest in Milwaukee, and fill your heart with 5 stages to listen to non stop for a week, drink eat and listen to some of the greats, right on Lake Michigan, it’s epic every summer, not to miss,
OK, for the record, Eric Clapton is my favorite and most listened to guitarist. That being said, from my first hearing him around 1965 up thru 1973 or so he was on fire, unmatched, the top of his game. After that, for many a long stretches of time much of his playing was just mediocre or boring. But there were still snippets of greatness from time to time. One must understand that this was by choice as his interests and styles changed and evolved over the years. But it doesn't take more than a little dusting off and turning up the amp to get him to show WHY he is the best and that he has not lost any of his chops, intensity, blues power, emotive feeling and musical ability. This song is an excellent example of that. At a later date with Cream, at the RAH Reunion Concert his playing of Stormy Monday proves this out. It's still there, he's still more than capable. And when the need arises he is easily able to go back to his roots, his beginnings, his first love, and play the blues. And play them like very few are able to. Play them like his Bluesbreakers replacement Peter Green was once able to do, but much better. Many often consider Eric down and out of the game as a bluesman, a blues guitarist. But that's the hazard of underestimating greatness, it can so often come back to prove you wrong and bite you in the ass !!!! Great job EC. And I'm so very happy to see you India not just dig this style of music, but really get Clapton. He is a musical treasure that won't be around forever, but you have the opportunity to see and hear him now. And also dive into and listen too the astounding volume of material he has recorded over nearly 60 years. THIS was a good choice !
So good to see the love in your eyes and heart young lady. Not just for Eric, but also for the music, the musicians, and the instruments. Bless you. Makes my heart soar like a hawk.
I remember hearing Derek Trucks talking about touring with this band around the world that year. He mentioned Clapton’s playing and how masterful he was about not playing too much. He would give you just enough that you crave for more and that takes a real master to do that. That coming from Derek is a real compliment.
A true legend one of the best blues guitarist and then some a lot of guitar players can do what they call shred but it has no structure Eric can talk with his that is why everyone wants to play on stage with him and I do mean everybody
Always down for more blues and/or Clapton. Still say you should check out his collab album with B.B.King "Ridin' with the King." Lots of good tracks, but start with the titular one. :)
I have been listening to Eric Clapton since 1967, love his music. Derek Trucks is a fabulous talent-- All the talent on one stage in this is incredible. The Crossroads Festivals were LEGENDARY.
Eric Clapton is & has ALWAYS BEEN a guitar god! One of the best of ALL TIME! And mercy, HE CAN SANG! I've seen him 5 times in 3 different venues & every single time was an unforgettable experience! The man simply KILLZ IT! 🔥🤘
If you're after more killer blues solo work from Clapton, try looking up his live performance of "Little Red Rooster" with the Rolling Stones. It's from the late 80's, there's questionable fashion choices everywhere, and most importantly, it's fuckin' fantastic.
Chris Stainton (the keyboard player) also played bass for Joe Cocker on "With a little help from my friends." do you remember reacting to that? love your channel btw.
If I'm not mistaken, you are the first one to react to this amazing jam from the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival! And a great reaction it was! I'm 67 now and I've been listening to Clapton since I was 13 years old!
From back in the day, Claptons early years, the two top blues pianists were Nicky Hopkins and Otis Spann. Tickle the ivorys ? No man, these dudes could make theme weep tears.
At his best, there is a good reason why people used to say "Clapton is God". Superb guitarist and one hell of a voice. You should check out the work he did with the band Derek and the Dominoes - "Layla", "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" - superb.
love your new intro...very classy! back in the day.. Eric Clapton was amazing and still is.. India.. find "Stones in my Passway" Eric did a cover .. old Robert Johnson.. from the 1930s. This is old delta blues.. you will love it
he tears up those slow blues classics like this one, Stormy Monday or Have You Ever Loved A Woman and of course he is always going to have a first rate band backing him up
6 songs I'd suggest are when he was part of Cream "Sunshine of your love" Eric Clapton "Layla" "Cocaine" "Promises" "wonderful tonight" "Rock and roll heart"
I would love to hear some Muddy, Wolf, BB King, and Robert Johnson on this channel, just to name a few! Follow that up with some Buddy Guy and Robert Cray...Gotta love Blues!
Perfection... The guitarist in the white shirt is Doyle Bramhall II his wife is Renee Zellweger a Bridget Jones Fame.... with Derek Trucks on Slide arguably the best slide player on the planet currently touring with his wife Tedeschi Trucks Band in many years slide player for the Allman Brothers Band. .. keyboard player Chris Stainton ... gained Fame with Leon Russell and Joe Cocker being a member of the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour.... that's some good shit right there...
You picked a phenominal video to react to.....Keep watching....it gets better. That guitar structure goes all the way back to Duane Allman..Derek Trucks was a kid around Duane Allman. I heard this one from the last show they did of this tour in San Deigo....and I only heard the soundtrack of it...and went out to Amazon and bought the concert site unseen...just because of that/this track...Great Pic India.
Clapton is an absolute God on the guitar. I can't think of a single song he sings that isn't good. Most are amazing. If you get the chance, listen to his recording of "Alberta", "Walking Blues", or "Malted Milk". India I think you'll love every one of them!!
Clapton did at least four of these Crossroads tours, he invites the best of the best, one has SRV though he could not stay long, each one was three days long, 24 hours each day, the proceeds went to his Drug Rehab center in Antigua which helped a lot of musicians with drug and alcohol problems. Saved a lot of good folks, mostly musicians.
You leave Vicksburg on hwy 61 the great blues highway and go all the way to Memphis but in the trip up there are all of these small towns and all of these old falling down shacks that were juke joints from way back in the day. I have made that trip many times and I learn something new every time
Rolling fork, Cleveland, Greenville and Clarksdale made that trip many times. My favorite name is Panther Burn, Mississippi. The delta is the real home of the blues, and once you experience it you know why.
Eric Clapton one of the greatest of the greats and the reason he was one of my top favorites. You should watch his concert by the title of Eric Clapton unplugged . now this is old school and in my opinion old school was better... they actually played for their audience and not to them like they do today. they were more touchable in our day just watch how Elvis Presley sit in the middle of his audience and Janis Joplin pulled the audience up on stage to dance... they were more humble in those days and appreciated their fans. this generation of musicians have nothing on us except for better equipment with more sound effects.
India, I love the way you ‘feel’ the music, by far the best way to react to what you’re hearing. As for Clapton, well in my humble opinion he has always been a blues man at heart and he’s the best

This is part of Clapton's tribute to Robert Johnson. Clapton once said on listening to Robert Jonson that he thought here were two guitarists. Nope, just one.
Yeah, That is how he learned to play it when he hung around the musicians that his dad played with. Also, his name is Doyle Bramhall II not Derek as it came up on the screen.
Just raw as heck. All of them playin’ the guitar like it owed them money.
Eric always surrounds himself with the best of the best and it shows....This is Clapton...

All Eric Clapton solos are improvised, pure feeling........and often pure genius.
It’s what made me pick up a guitar in my early teens and learn....
the first solo and the last solo, are the massive example of how to improvise playing the guitar....ladies and gentlemen mr Eric Clapton
