  • Allie Beth Stuckey joins the podcast to talk about how progressive Christians exploit Christian compassion in areas like race, sexuality, immigration, transgenderism, marriage, abortion, and social justice. She also responds to a recent Christianity Today article which compared her to a nazi German soldier due to her stance on biblical issues.

In the movie, "Wonder" there is a line, "When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind"
We immediately stopped the movie and talked about this idea, replacing "right" with "truth"... We have been conditioned to be kind rather than be right for a long time. To be fair truth and right are not the same thing, but I am not sure that the world would make the distinction, unless it is in their interests.

Here is a question. How does bible deal with scarcity of resources described in economics, and the competition it creates? How does the Bible deal with competition? How would a Christian decide how to apply a certain price to a product or service they sell? How would the Bible address that? I was born in the 1970's. I have lived in a society in which people have judged others based on their income. Reading about the life of John D. Rockefeller, the oil company owner was interesting, because he also regularly attended Baptist Churches, and read the Bible. He was also described as a cunning businessman who tested the boundaries of business ethics.

@@ChrisVink-b5bI think the short answer is conscience.
If we are God's children we stand before him as ones that are going to give an account to him. Giving, is a choice and the Bible permits that choice... In fact Ananias and Sapphira were condemned because they lied and Peter says that their money was theirs to do with as they pleased (Acts 5). We are encourage to give joyfully as God convicts, not under compulation (2 Cor 9:7).
Kindness isn't the standard, conviction is. And what God convicts me of may be different from what he calls someone else to. Will some disobey... Of course, but that is between them and God! May I be a means of conviction for those who do not obey? Maybe, but that happens by pointing them to obedience to the Lord and Saviour, not my idea of kindness.

    • @J_Fishing4life

@@ChrisVink-b5b I don’t know if this answers your question or if it even goes with why you were asking it, but I know that God will always provide. He has our plans, He has plans to prosper us, to give us a hope, a future (Jeremiah 29:11). And this providing is not just confined within a box, it is not just materialistic. Also, Judas betrayed Jesus for just thirty pieces of silver, just thirty mere pieces of silver. And God knew this would happen. He knew it needed to happen, so that His people, the ones that He loved so much, could be saved, could live with Him eternally in an indescribable place. So, I don’t know if this helps and I know this is not the perfect response, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me, but God is also a great person to talk. So, with love, God bless you. Again, hope this helps.

This is so important! Yes! I'll tell you I watched an old friend post on Facebook a meme that shows women referred to as egg givers or something, it didn't say anything hateful or refer to trans identifying people as anything negative, but he was attacked ruthlessly but subtly. I can see it but he couldn't, or he'd have become defensive. These people started saying things like "I expected more from you" or "I thought you'd care for marginalised folks" or "I thought you were a decent person" and posting links trying to prove "trans women are women" or whatever, and telling him to educate himself. They were subtle, yet very threatening, and the threat was to his social standing, it was to his character, they obviously threatened to leave him and not be friends anymore if he refused to apologize and "educate himself". It's really low, really aimed at a person's social life. When they're aiming to "educate" people into the ideology, they say things as if they're factual and have been known facts for hundreds of years and you are stupid if you even ask a question about it. They'll tell you that "trans" people are the most oppressed in the world, but the kicker is they'll try to give you a thought exercise to trigger empathy, they'll ask you what you'd do if you woke up in the opposite sex body tomorrow, if you'd transition back to what you feel like. They'll show you sad sob stories from people who are extremely self centred and mentally ill, usually from gaslighting narcissists. And they'll expect you to place these people above yourself in value, under subtle threat of social rejection if you don't. You don't want to be on the wrong side of history do you? Then of course you get the aims at women's empathy, which is particularly useful since women will push through any social change. They'll accuse the woman of not having enough confidence in her own femininity to open up womanhood to include the poor men who wish so hard for what you were given so freely. So if you don't accept the men, you are insecure in your womanhood. So you're expected to accept the men and tell others that you did so because you are so confident in your womanhood. Which spreads the message and every woman reading this will think oh no I'm going to be seen as insecure so I better say I'm cool with the men too. It's insidious, it's passive aggressive, and it's subtle. But it's a direct attack. And how you respond matters

Thank you for talking about this. I remember when the black square thing started and I had people writing me horrible DMs calling me a racist because I didn't post it (I had no idea what it was and I don't post things just because everyone else is doing it). When I tried to explain that I post food pictures, like a visual food diary, I was told that I needed to get out of the way because I was taking away space that should be used to uplift black people. It was really frightening how many people turned on me, so much so that I made my Instagram private for several days. I blocked everyone who sent nasty comments and messages and moved on. But I never forgot that total bewilderment of being "yelled" at online because of something that I DIDN'T do.

Points well put! A couple of suggestions for further reading and food for thought, coming from my perspective as a very conservative Christian/political moderate/bibliovore mostly of theology/philosophy/history:
    - Alasdair MacIntyre's book "After Virtue" and de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America" should be required reading for would-be voters. MacIntyre discusses the implications from a moral/theological standpoint of leaders not being virtuous in their ordinary lives, while de Tocqueville makes the claim outright that unvirtuous leaders, even those who have good policies, will ultimately lead to the fall of the democracy.
    - "Empathy", as defined as feeling the same things as someone else, is used both in popular culture and in this interview as referring either to sympathy (feeling "for" someone) or emotional projection (interpreting our feelings as what someone else is feeling because that's how we'd feel in their situation).
    - I do not think the Republican party is the political "home" of Christians. It does align in many aspects, currently, with a Christian worldview, but it is far from the best fit. (Not my idea, but one from The Benedict Option!) What if every Christian who felt this way about the party would evaluate third parties?

This was a big revelation for me, because I had never heard Allie's (and all the other theologians and church fathers you mentioned) interpretation of the 'the least of these' verse before. I have to admit it did make me uncomfortable! I wanted Jesus to be advocating for helping everyone, not just Christians (which he does in other passages). But when I looked closely I had to admit that Allie was correct!

Russell Moore "sliding"? I called this when I read his book "Onward: Engaging the Culture Without Losing the Gospel." I could see in those pages that he was beginning to drift. I saw this also with Franky Schaeffer decades earlier in his book "Addicted to Mediocrity." There were some good points in both of these books, but as I read them I had questions about their positions and that they were drifting into progressivism for Moore and a neo-orthodox at best for Franky. Progressivism was not used as much back then.

On empathy: I heard someone say that by trying to "love people into the kingdom of God," often that means you're actually "loving them right into hell." In other words, leaving out the important truth about sin and the necessity of repenting and turning to God is not really the gospel, and whatever you're winning them over to in that manner is not the kingdom of God.

Empathy = the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
It’s essential to recognize that we don't hear the experiences of the “losers” in history. We hear the stories and learn the history of the “winners.” It’s essential to get a complete understanding of everyone’s experience. All of us know what it feels like to be ignored or misinterpreted.
Jesus listens to the oppressed, and He is moved with compassion.

Alberta Canada’s current provincial government is implementing such laws to protect kids from puberty blockers and mutilating surgeries and parental rights of being informed about pronoun changes and prohibitions against sexually explicit materials in classrooms etc. Our Premier, who is not a Christian, is under fire immensely but many Christians in our province are upholding her and the provincial government in much prayer. Over 6000 people attended the AGM this past weekend and 91.5% endorsed her as leader-both Canadian records. We know the attacks will intensify as this Premier is listening to those of us who uphold a biblical view and those who do not profess a faith in Christ but realize that the Bible is the gold standard for life.

Toxic empathy. Only it isn't empathy. It's really about status and image. Looking good rather than being good. Those who parrot back this world's talking points are not full of compassion and lovingkindness but vanity and a craving for worldly approval.
It's about lust of the eyes and conforming to this world. Loving the praise of men rather than God.

I have been teaching for 20+ years in an elementary school and I can attest to the truth that things do not end well with the young children parents bring when crossing the border. It is very hard for them. They are asked or even forced to lie about their names and birthdates, are left alone for many hours in apartments that are being shared with other families because parents have 1-3 jobs, grow up not learning academic Spanish and many times their Spanish suffers and they end up dominating English, but because their parents don’t learn English there is a huge disconnect during their teenage years and many end up making wrong choices. I am Hispanic myself. I also immigrated to this country. But we did it the right way. My husband crossed the border illegally by himself at age 19 and suffered much to the point of wanting to end his life. That’s when Jesus rescued him! Exactly at that moment! So yes, God is good and He can use anything for His glory, but as a teacher and as a protector of kids, I believe that for most, coming to USA illegally is not the best, it is child abuse.

Not something I want to be apart of. Too bad all these intelligent minds can’t focus more on preaching the gospel and less on speaking the truth in love which is just another way of saying we’re right about everything.

    • @lkhai6243

But don't you think preaching the gospel is a huge part of speaking the truth in love?
I mean, if I go out and tell someone that Jesus is the only way to God, and then they say no, there are other ways, and I try to explain that there aren't, I'm confronting falsehood.
And when people are saved, you don't only preach the gospel to them, right? (For pastors, at least).
They are also supposed to be taught how to live biblically.
And when you see a pastor leading his congregation astray, isn't speaking the truth in love also trying to tell them where they are wrong?
I don't think the two are so easily divorced. But this is my opinion.

Jesus had empathy but didn't end there. To the woman at the well he said "Go and sin no more." He didn't affirm her adultery, he was honest and gentle but he still called her on her sin. We aren't sinless like him but we are called to speak the truth of the Bible. I have Christian friends who side with progressives and I think their eyes are truly blinded. Christ has compassion for single moms, immigrants and people struggling with same-sex attraction. But he doesn't affirm them and liberals require affirmation of people's sinful choices.
American Christians got comfortable because for the most part the culture agreed with us. Now that the differences are becoming glaringly obvious, some are flailing as to what side to fall on. We are at a time of separating the wheat and chaff and need to bathe ourselves in the Word and stand strong.🙏🏻

"Faith" is Blind Belief. The Imperial English word "god" is a made-up word, not a name or a noun and didn't exist until the 8th Century AD. In Imperial England, the word became "god", in Germany it became "gott". It is supposed to be an adjective referring to the Jew YAHWEH. It is the Jew 10 Commandments and the Jew Male War Lord YAHWEH. Read the 1st Commandment carefully. Archeology has proven the first Jews (Yuden) followed a female fertility supreme being, Asherah, and YAHWEH was her husband. The Jews were never slaves of the ancient Egyptians and there never was an Exodus, invalidating the rest. Jesus the Jew never existed, there are multiple proofs in the Jew-Book "bible" itself. A big one is Matthew. It is very important to "prophecy" that Jesus the Jew be a direct descendant of David. Matthew then proceeds to list the Male Lineage from Abraham to David to Joseph. But the other "scripture" repeats several times, that Joseph was NOT the father, DOH!. Apologists will say Mary was a direct descendant but the misogynistic Jew-Book "bible" does not keep track of Female Lineage, DOH! The Jew-Book "bible" was written by Jews, about Jews, for Jews. You have to be an ignorant simpleton to be "believing" in the Jew-Book "bible". The Jew-Book "bible" is not any sort of truth and is riddled with ridiculous factual errors, a delusional fantasy. There is no "god" and Jesus the Jew never existed. The atheist just simply does not believe in the Jew-Book "bible" because it is not believable.

@@voidagent If faith were indeed blind belief. You would have a point. And there is blind belief, believing without evidence, but that is not the kind of faith that we are called to. Faith is a conviction based on evidence, like in a court of law...faith is trust, and having reasons for that trust. And that is the kind of faith the Christian faith advocates...

@@anthonybarber3872 There is no evidence for anything in the Jew-Book "bible", a few real names, real places but the accounts behind them never happened.
