  • A new sprayer retrofit system from Precision Planting will allow growers to upgrade technology without switching sprayers.
Since entering the sprayer market in 2022, Precision Planting has launched its ReClaim boom priming and recirculation technology, and this fall, it will offer its new Symphony nozzle control system.
At Canada's Outdoor Farm Show at Woodstock, Ont., RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin caught up with Precision Planting's Shawn Livingston to talk about the technology and the company's continuing evolution.
Livingston notes that many sprayer nozzles have a change in pressure when sprayer operating speed or rate are changed. These pressure changes also impact droplet sizes, increasing the risk of drift or reducing leaf coverage of the spray, resulting in reduced efficacy. The Symphony nozzle control system, which features a pulse width modulation (PWM) nozzle, allows the sprayer to maintain constant pressure even when changing rates or speed.
Symphony maintains consistent pressure across the boom, along with swath control and turn compensation for consistent spray coverage, adds Livingston. "This is allowing growers to control a pump, separate from a nozzle for spray pattern control. And it's also actually now giving us row-by-row shut off, so that our sections are not 20 feet anymore, they're 15 inches. And that's critical when we're applying chemistry to the fields."
