It's Going to be ANOTHER UGLY CORN HARVEST

  • Gotta say, that chill in the air definitely means fall is here. Fallen corn is making harvest a bit of a pain. We're really liking the new QuadraTouch on the Sukup grain dryer. I'm excited about the remote control features but we have ran into a few hiccups, and had to spend some time troubleshooting and calibrating to ensure everything was spot on. It's always a learning experience in farming, from setting tracks right to figuring what fields to harvest first. Ended the day with an incredible moon view, reminding me why I love doing what I do. Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Dad's "camera presence' keeps improving with every video. What he has seen, learned and adapted to over his farming career is like for most of us: amazing. And it's clear he has no intention of stopping to learn and to be of great use to the family and the farm. I'm about his age so I can appreciate all of it.

That temperature control adjustment on the dryer is a fascinating design choice for new equipment, I'd have expected that to be mounted on a linear actuator and automatically hunt for the proper depth. I'd bet you'd happily pay a couple grand not to have to run up and down the ladder to chase the weather.

Your new trailers seem to be working well. Nice updates on these new trailers.
Wished I understood your dryer system better. If time permits some time give a quick run through of its operation. We never had a system per day. Just a very small unit behind the tractor pto type unit. That was many years ago. 70/80’s.

Leg cramps are bad so I feel your pain, and they hurt like hell. Dehydration is the root cause of it, so drink plenty of water through out the day. When I get one I drink a half a glass of pickle juice, and drink water till it hurts. I keep electrolyte on hand, and if I am worried about leg cramps I drink some. I seen the pickle juice thing when a worker got leg cramps on the TV show deadliest catch, and it works. I also flex my leg when I can it seems to help to stop the cramps.

Zac my wife drinks tonic water with Quinine. Works like a charm when she gets leg cramps. Is your potassium level ok?

Down corn sucks. No easy way to pick it up. Can only do the best you can. How jim doing? He be back for this harvest? A family working together is always great to see. 3 generations working together is awesome
