I also have a separate db25 to xlr for connecting to a managed PA if needed. If the DN4816 is used, if the mixer failed, it would not work…. I always like a backup plan!
Hi! Awesome video! But I would advice using splitters with input and direct output in front and second output in the back. Like ART S8 3way. Yes its more expensive but makes your kit cleaner and wont require keeping all wires for FOH hanging out of the rack. Cutting the hole in the XR18s rack mount will make it easier for cable management especially for those racks where you will have to leave one unit empty for cables and you wont need to take out behringer from the rack to change cables. Hi, I had a look on ebay at the power strip that you're using. Is it possible to flip the rack ears so that the power outlets are facing the interior of the rack?
Unfortunately not. Its a fairly cheap unit that provides surge protection only, and the rack ears are fixed. You might be able to mount it on the inside of a very thin rack shelf, as it is only 7 or 8 cm wide. I have it facing outwards as I plug the Artnet light interface and laptop into it at the gig.
Just had a look on ebay. Mine is a metal frame which goes along the whole strip, but there are some that look like there are rack ears that could be reversed. Mine is poss 7 years old, so probably not available now

Hey ! Thanks for the video ! Very nice since I am looking into building a similar system. Quick question: can you plug all these standard XLR and stille close the rack flawlessly? We would like to have kind of a set and forget approach.
Yes, the XLRs that plug into the mixer stay plugged in, and the case front closes fine. I have revised the rack now with an X32 Rack and P-16 units, so have a look at that video too!
Hi, nice video, it gave me quite a few ideas for my own rack case. Just one question how did you attach wireless router to the top of the IEM transmitter?
The link connection goes to the rack mixer so that 48v phantom (for DI box and drum overhead condenser mic) can be controlled from mixer, and the transformer side split goes to the cable for passing to a FoH PA, or we would also use it for our backup mixer… Thanks
@@tmmmusicstudio thank you - in reading the MS8000 manual, I found that part confusing. What about the warning here: "WARNING! Be careful when using phantom power on linked channels. Depends on the rack case. The “gator” style ABS have screws that have a threaded hole. Some racks (often the heavier wooden and metal ones) have a square hole on the rack where a nut springed holder is placed and the screw goes into that. The benefit of the second approach is that if something gets cross threaded, it can be replaced. In the non nut version - if cross threaded that hole is now unusable. The drawback of the nut (second) approach is that they can be VERY fiddly to place! Hope that helps!

Most (or many) splitters work by having a true wired link and a second transformer link. As long as your mixer or source of phantom power is on the true link, then it passes. Question about the tray for the IEM transmitters, where did you get this as the standard rack kit is for only 1 transmitter? I have the LD Systems MEI 1000 G2 transmitter (as does my oppo) and would be looking to recreate your setup. Cheers Andy
Absolutely, however, the good thing about many of the digital mixers is the number of auxiliary outputs available to be separate mixes for different people. But some analog mixers might be adequate
Digital mixer will let you do SO much more and cost about the same. But there is no reason it wouldn't work if you found a unit that has all the i/o you need. I love having gates and high pass on every channel.
Greetings - do you have a workaround for sending a stereo output for each of the individual Aux outs where my IEM amplifiers are connected to? I essentially just want to be able to pan different instruments on both my left and right ears. I currently use a Behringer PM-1 and all my sound comes in on the left ear which is a big mush of sound.
Behringer make the powerplay P1 which is a powered stereo unit. Thus it can take a stereo input. The XR18 also has ultranet output, so you can use the P-16 16 channel units, which I have just bought, and they are amazing as you can pan and eq.
The XR18 can only do 3 stereo aux mixes: buss 1/2, buss 3/4, buss 5/6 plus the LR mix. Stereo mixes always use up two busses. If you need more than three stereo mixes (plus the LR mix) the P16 is your best option. If you just need one stereo mix, the PM1 will work fine. Note: the PM1 is great unit but it’s not designed to work from balanced aux outs. It’s designed to be a remote volume control for an unbalanced headphone output. Lucky for you, the XR18 has a headphone jack. Headphone jack… plug your PM1 into the headphone jack on the XR18 with a 1/4” TRS to XLR cable as shown in the PM1 quick start guide. You will still need a pair of busses linked in stereo on the XR18 (BUSS 5/6 for example). To get your stereo linked buss pair to the headphone jack instead of the aux outs, go the the monitor page in the app (“monitor” means headphone output on the XR18) and assign your linked stereo buss pair (BUSS 5/6 for example) as the “source” for monitor (the headphone jack). This puts your linked stereo buss pair into the headphone jack. Turn up the headphone volume control on the XR18 front panel, turn up PM1, turn up the buss (BUSS 5/6 for example) and mix. You could use a balanced aux out on the XR18 for a mono mix into the PM1 or even get a stereo mix by using two aux outs into a Y adaptor that converts the two balanced mono signals into a single unbalanced stereo stereo signal, (see the XR18 quick start guide) but just like mono, you might not have enough volume. If you really need to use the aux outs in stereo, just get a P1 and a pair of XLRs.

no. it sounds fine. I am a big advocate of Behringer gear. it is often criticised, but I have always found it to be reliable, good quality and good build quality too

You have a link for the case?
I bought it on ebay, but there are lots of narrow rack cases out there to choose from - Gator, Trojan (studiospares) etc
How many rack units does this case have?
Pretty sure it is a 6 u - shallow, being put into a 6+2 rack (the +2 is due to the handle - which gives a very short access to a couple of units)
Nice video. How many rack spaces you have used? 6U? I am looking at building my own as we speak.
Its a 6U, good luck with your build!
Thanks mate.
link case?
Do you mean is the brand link?
@@tmmmusicstudio Yes, case link please

Ive just looked and no markings. Its a good few years old but I think it was trojan. Thomann also have done similar ones.
Great video! Have you had any noise issues with the Behringer MS8000?
no. it sounds fine. I am a big advocate of Behringer gear. it is often criticised, but I have always found it to be reliable, good quality and good build quality too
I'm using an MS8000 too and have had zero problems. One thing to note - make sure to wire the correct output to the mixer (the wired link) so you can pass phantom power to microphones - I learnt that lesson recently!
Would be better if you turn xr around. Less messy looking.
Possibly true, but cables would then be visible at the back too. I have now swapped to an X32 which has all the IO at the rear.
@@tmmmusicstudio I guess depends on what is around back.
Top IRMÃO .
oh wow I see an apple airport express in there. i just want to get wireless iem so I can hear my music when I am performing
yep an airport express. reliable, compact, and more importantly, it was lying around!
@@tmmmusicstudio I have one lying around also! Guess I just found a new use for it haha all this just for some wireless iem for singing
@@natanyofsho the reason our band is going IEM is due to us syncing lights to a click track to make a better "performance" with lights etc. I have a video in progress about this - using a package called qlab, over the ArtNet dmx protocol - all quite exciting!
@@tmmmusicstudio very good! 👍🏼
Excelente! We have the XR18 !
