- What's the best wax you can get from Halfords out of these two?
Autoglym HD wax has recently been replaced by UHD but is the original any good? G3 Pro have also had their wax out for a long time now. It's cheaper than the Autoglym but does that mean it performs less? Let's find out.
Note that Meguiars do some fine waxes from Halfords I just didn't test them here.

Having met Luke at waxstock and asked him what wax he would recommend for use on my customers cars during a Detail to make Maintenance details easier and quicker for me, Luke recommended the G3 so I headed over to the G3 stand and had a look and a demo from the lovely guys on their stand and made a purchase.
I have now used this wax and in all honesty it’s great I like the ergonomic shape of the applicator as well and the easy of application and removal I have used this on multiple cars since waxstock already and all my customers have been delighted.
Thanks again Luke.
Glad you're enjoying using it bud and it was a pleasure to meet you in person finally.
G3 reminds me of something like FK2685 but on steroids. Honestly a fantastic wax, I think brand snobs turn their nose up at it as it is offered in Halfords.
I suspect you're right Brian. Unfair really.
Now THIS - is whats called a Wax Review! Great Job! 👍
As ever Luke a well edited and styled vlog. Today I decontaminated my son's first car which I suspect has never had this type of care! and it was a genuine pleasure to use a wax (speed wax) again (tend to use spray variants during maintenance washes). You get a genuine sense of accomplishment from that closing step after the graft of decon activity. The G3 looks interesting and may be a future purchase however for the moment I'm enjoying the speed wax.
Speed Wax has been on my radar for some time. In fact all the BH waxes I've been meaning to try. G3 is a bargain, would be a good comparison video to Speed wax I reckon.
I love dessert!
Super comprehensive round up of two readily available waxes, I think Farecla could be this year’s exciting brand, despite not being new!
Me too. Favourites include but are not limited to: tiramisu, trifle(non sherry) apple pie, apple crumble, chocolate gateaux, profiteroles, all the cheesecakes and custard.
Good comparison. Really enjoying your videos. Very slick and professional.
Thanks bud, I've been working on the quality of uploads of late so i'm stoked you noticed.
Love the HD wax but found the applicators hard to use , a bit ‘grabby’ on the paint surface and a bit too stiff in the hand, it made my fingers ache.
I now use a damp microfibre cloth for application, never had a problem with ‘chalkiness ‘ however I tend to use a quick spritz of instant detailer to help removal. Worth noting that I am in Western Australia, much warmer climate.
Good video, thanks.
I have changed from autoglym to absolute stay glassy ceramic wax
I see a lot of Absolute's work on Insta. Must try that wax at some point when time allows.
Evening Luke
Great video, I didn’t know that autoglym HD has been out for 10 years , I thought it had only been out for a couple, I know there super resin polish has been around for ages
It's a right old age for a wax isn't it? Still to be fair it performs better than some new waxes. Not all though. I believe SRP is much older but I'd need to research how old it is.
If you're fed up of the crazy names or multiple products that do the same thing (but tempt you to try them) I would say go with the whole G3 range. If you want a glass cleaner, its there, not multiple chocolate or cherry versions, the body prep shampoo is also really good, takes all the old wax off with ease, they do a spray sealant in winte rif you dont want to be outside long, and so-on. They all perform and do the job, their headline is obviously their abrasives, no fussy jargon again, just get a compound or polish, job done, and not £50 a bottle!
Doesn't have to be complicated or expensive does it. I've tried some of the G3 range already but need to try those you mentioned
the replacement UHD wax has a better applicator in it. i still prefer Autoglym. good review
With a £30 ish budget there are so many amazing waxes. Nadeem’s Armour is a current favourite as I believe it is with you too.
Absolutely. There's an abundance of amazing value waxes out there now. Almost spoiled for choice.
Soft99 Fusso coat best beads/durability with nice gloss and only around £20.have you used any waxaddict waxes luke? Been using edition18 and vitreo recently, both brilliant products.quite expensive but pretty much perfect waxes
Fusso I've not tried yet but on paper its a tough wax to beat. I have a pot of vitreo and quartz but I'm yet to try them.
Tranquility Base Detailing you wont be disappointed with them.nice to use, lovely gloss and great beading
Particularly like the waxaddict waxes but they have their downfalls. Removal can be fussy and they are expensive. The beading from something like Quartz is incredible though as is the 8 months durability.
Brian Woods i have always found the removal effortless..maybe condition play a part in that
HENRYHOBBS1 had varied experiences with it. First few applications were a breeze, the most recent use I found it difficult to remove. No negative conditions for it though so was weird.
being Hertfordshire born and bred, I looked forward to this vid, so, ahh, hmm, the Hertfordshire brands have been around for a while, steeped in history, but a little old skool....if they were grey in colour like my hair, we would be a perfect match😳😆😂...top vid, my friend👍
Thank you sir😂👍😂
I smell a good video in itself there best bang for your buck 30 quid and under waxes 👍
Great shout bud. Would you count sub 30 quid waxes that are 100ml or smaller?
um that's difficult one I would stick to full size ones
Poorboy's nattys blue is very good excellent gloss and good durability
Why did you use the old Autoglym HD instead of the new and considerably better Autoglym HD Ultra? might be more expensive but you use less so it all equals out.
That's a great question. The answer is that they are both from the same era. Autoglym UHD is their latest and putting it up against an old wax would be unfair. If and when the G3 gets renewed then I'll make a comparison of those two.
The video is two months old? i know HD is good if you prep well and put a base of Super Resin down first but the last time i went into Halfords nr me 3ish weeks ago they had stopped selling HD (not that i would buy it from there anyway). I get most people have a 'old faithful' wax (mine is collinite 845) but i am constantly buying demo pots / watching reviews etc to find some thing thats better, which is why comparing two out of date old tech waxes that aren't even that cheap makes no sense to me considering the hours of prep needed to get to that point.
I must try some 845 one day. Yeah the timing on hd being taken off the shelf was unfortunate. My mindset when I made this video was that with both waxes being best part of a decade old and considered a common wax that comparing them as old waxes would do two things: 1. Show that not a massive amount of progress has been made in that ten years and 2. Capturing a set of viewers that are far more likely to know these 2 waxes and less so the other brands I usually show thus growing the channels reach. I find making these videos an odd mix of doing what I want and doing what I think the viewers on youtube are looking for.
Fair enough, i must admit i'd like to see HD v's UHD back to back just to see how much it's progressed...... if you want one to try that just mind blowing get a £20 trial pot of Angelwax Fifth Element, i've had a pot for two and a bit years now for use on my show car and frankly it's my fave (never seen a wax pop like that especially at night), when it finally runs out i might go try the Angelwax enigma. Thats one advantage of getting small pots, my 845 must be nearly ten years old and i use it allot still but i like trying new things.
Bet it wouldn't work for me 😂
Michael King I'm sure with a bit of work it could be put in a spray bottle 😂😂😂
