Why does it seem like the 10R80 is having more issues than just a couple years ago? Have they been making design changes that are causing new issues or are there just so many more 10R80's being made that these issues are cropping up?

The miles are stacking and the problems are popping up. My work truck is a 2019 f150 3.5EB and I have dogged it daily from new to 150k with no tranny problems but a $4k cam phaser job. My personal truck a 2018 f150 5.0 I babied and the tranny went out hard quickly at 65,000 miles. It’s a roll of the dice nowadays with these ford trucks. Such a shame.
Sounds like it would be a good idea to do a fluid exchange ... say ... every 30,000 miles ?? Probably also to use OEM fluid as well? ---- really like your channel !! Thanks for all your help to us DIY guys ! ------
You're welcome! 60k would be fine. The fluid doesn't get too beat up in these, like the escapes. The cdf issue can't really be prevented. But if it happens, the redesigned part I haven't seen fail

What periodic maintenance do you recommend for these and what are the typical issues with them?
Hi, I'd put a metal pan on it with a drain plug. There's some nice ones online but are pricy. With that, I'd drain and fill the pan a couple of times every 30k and do the filter every 90k. Or every 60 if you're feeling frisky. Common issues are firm shifts (pretty much normal) and the cdf bushing turning and causing loss of engagement. That can be remedied with the redesigned cdf drum

Hi I recently got a 2018 ford focus that has been having the stutter problem i took it in today and had the dealership look it over they are saying that it is not the tcm , the actuators or the clutch and that there was metal shavings in the fluid and that the transmission would need to be replaced and they wouldn't do a rebuild because of parts not be available. the guy quoted about 10k for the job is this about how much it would cost and is there anything I can do to make the car last long enough to get another car?
If you want to record a video of the problem, you can post it on my facebook or discord group (if its audible). I would say get a used transmission for it and put a new clutch/forks in before installing. make sure to get one from a 17 or 18

I was Just kinda explaining the Issues I had with my NEW F-150 TRUCK at 4500 Miles and the New 10R80 that they put in Last Nov 2023. I suppose I didn't hit the right button and Post it. My Bad Probably. No worries.

$9500 due to a defective design from Ford?! I would rather sell the truck and get a different brand at that point, cut my losses.

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Thank you for the videos BTW, very informative. I do wonder what will happen in a few years when the trans repair is more than the truck. Even now my F150 is worth low 20Ks and a new transmission is half that.
Seems as tho the UA-camrs from BackRoad Driver has a Guy that Has "FIXED" Both of their F-150's 10R80's that they just BEAT TO DEATH. Both Trucks have Super Chargers on their 5.0 COYOTE Engines and they just BEAT on them HARD. Their TRANNY guy has a Stealthy 5.0 Mustang with the 10R80 behind a TON of HP and seems to be holding up quite Nicely. What is he Doing that "FIXES" these 10R80 Tranny's that FORD Won't let there Technicians do to alleviate the Issues that Plague this poor Tranny?????
@@DirtyFilthyPeasant i would just get one off a low mileage wrecked truck. i saw one for around $2500. local shop quoted me $1000 for the labor. isnt so bad
