For those getting the 'VIN not found' or whatever it says error:
I ordered the exact same cable from the exact same seller. I was getting frustrated and about to give up. I watched this video over and over, deleted and redownloaded the software a couple of times (is 'redownloaded' a word?) and then I remembered that Evan repeatedly said: "make sure that pins 7 and 8 are connected". Same cable, same seller, same switch setting, right?
Nope. I took the clear connector apart to verify that the pins were connected, and noticed that the wires were connected on the right. I moved the switch to the right, and bingo. Immediately connected.
Hope this helps someone. Try all 4 switch settings if you need to.
moved what switch? I have the blue connector apart, and see no switch. Pins 7,8 are soldered together.
Some cables have a switch for different BMWs and some cables are soldered to just work on like the e46, e39, e38
Ok thanks Evan. I’ll keep trying
Can you help me I think I screwed up my ecu
What were you trying to do?
This is a great tutorial. There are a bunch of other videos but this one you did is straight forward and easy to follow. Thanks Evan. Oh the reason the folder name is NCSEXPER without the T is because when this program was written back in the days, the filename was limited to 8 characters.(That's what i read in my computer class. LOL )
Thanks man. I'm a complete nube at this and before your video, I found it incredibly difficult to find the programs, install them correctly and work out how to use them. You not only provided ACTIVE links to the programs and files but you walk through everything in detail and in layman's terms. You have no idea how appreciative I am. Thanks heaps!!! Now I have to search the net to find out how to fold in my mirrors on remote lock on my E70 and change the cruise control display from mph to km/h and hopefully display a digital speedo. Hopefully there are people out there who explain in simple terms as well as you have.
after so many videos. this is the one that worked for me 100% first time. i bought a toughbook online from a buddy with ncs all that installed. had no ncsdummy. i followed your video and got it and got it working. thank you a whole lot! :)
Glad you enjoyed it
This is the best tutorial on coding I have seen ,thank you! Informative and detailed information in an easy to understand way. All the links work as of today.
Thank you!!!
WARNING for first time NCSEXPERT users:
It is very important that you save the current original configuration of your BMW car (the FSW_PSW file) BEFORE attempting any coding. So that if you mess up , you can revert and restore your car's original configuration, and not disable it.!!
So at minute 20:35 of this video : Stop everything, open another window and make a backup copy of the FSW_PSW trace file, (call it FSW_PSW.backup), then proceed.
The FSW file in the desktop?
@@zezom3341 ---> The FSW_PSW trace file is located in the work directory of NCSEXPERT (typically C:\NCSEXPER\WORK\FSW_PSW.TRC)
@@TheChedley wow thanks alot for replying 5 months later haha
If you wouldn't mind could you explain to me where to put the backup as i'm not very good with computers
@@zezom3341 You save the backup copy somewhere you can retrieve it if needed. Maybe on a thumb drive, or another computer, or the desktop, or a memory stick.....
I wish I read this ccomment before I started... Seriously no one one should be uploading tutorials of using NCS Expert without disclaiming TO BACK EVERYTHING UP - you're fucked if you don't. thumbs down for this video. Imagine if I took you sky diving without teaching you how to deploy the backup chute. Still appreciate your effort and time for the video but man. We have to have each others back
Awesome detailed video...Thank you soooo much for that! I just fixed my airbag/seatbelt issues in my car! Why 20 dislikes when this video clearly deserves like a million likes! Thank you once again buddy!
Same here i just did mine today and i feel like i'v just won a million pounds. Thanks to this guy. Brilliant video
Thank You! This is exactly what was needed a step by step guide with possible reasons it wouldn't work. I tried doing all of this a few years ago and gave up. I spent 2 weeks tinkering every day. After watching your video I immediately went out and read a module, made changes with dummy, and will code the module tomorrow! You just saved me hundred of dollars to deactivate the AHL system on my 650. Again thank you!
Great detailed information.
Thanks man 👍👍👍
That was the most step by step how to that I have ever used. It worked flawlessly and was easy to follow. I coded my comfort close and everything works but the rear vent windows. It is late and I have been staring at this laptop for hours so I will play with it more after work tomorrow, but I had to say thank you!
I’ve been searching for a perfect tutorial this is it
Thank you!
excellent video your explanation was clear and concise, you've earned a new sub! keep up the great work
Thank you for this video. I could not have coded my E70 trunk lid closing without you.
Thanks for taking the time to produce this.
Totally agree. I reckon Evan would have taken 4+ hours to make this video for us. I love people who share their knowledge.
+1 on the generosity and patience
Cheers for your hard work sorting this out
Excellent video, thanks so much for your help mate!
Finaly something that works!!! Verry usefull tutorial!!
Thank you for taking the time to share all these informations 🙏
Great jobs Sir, I tried to understand something in this BMW matter with many, many hours behind Google and Mega searching ...
Now, the BMW curtain is open and I can progress on new BMW coding challenge. Everything is ready to do without spending any euro for the thiefs in the desert.
Merci beaucoup. I will be very happy to meet you in next videos.
Great tutorial, thank you!
Best NCSExpert video on UA-cam, thanks!
Great information and video, I was able to code out the corner leds in my 08 e92 335xi. Thank you so much
Tim Deng dude, how did you code an e92 with this, there is no option in ncs for any of the e9x’s I have an e90 and ncs expert shows e89 then k1x, how did you do it please?
Thanks so much for posting this video!
This video made it super easy to use ncs expert an dummy. Was able to code some stuff on my mini cooper. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the software.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for video and links in description!!
Hi, I have been watching your videos for a while now, finds the videos very useful regards specifically to e46. I have a 4 door 320d 2005 production. It is a base model and at times it is frustrating when you miss basic things like a drink holder or even an aircon which are now standard equipment saying that, still love the car have it since 09 and have 95K miles on the clock, looking at your videos there are endless possibilities to make it look cool and perform better though it is a time consuming but I enjoy it.
Thank you for watching and it is odd that BMW didn’t add these basic features
this is a Great video well explains everything should know as a beginner, thanks for that, and wishing good luck for future content creation even after 5 years 😄.
I've been looking into buying an e46 for awhile and between your review of the eonon radio and this content Its convinced me that I can buy an e46, get a raw and visceral enthusiast experience while also being able to have modern creature comforts. Thank you so much for putting out these videos. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!! Let me know what other videos you would like to see.
Awesome video Work perfect!
Great vid. Thanks for refreshing my memory!
Awesome video, thanks!
Real clear explanations!
Nice one m8... just wanted to reset my airbag light after kids pulled the socket out from under my seat, loads of interesting info , I may have a go @
Excellent tutorial. Convinced me not to mess with the coding.
Great coding tutorial! Thanks.
Its just great
Thanks man
Having bought yet another E-series BMW this is exactly what I need.
TYVM!!!! Excellent Video! I was able to communicate with the DSC and resolve my DSC coding issue.
I learnt and now enjoy using NCS Expert and dummy after watching your Video i have been struggling and almost hated this software big up Evan
Thanks Evan. Your video helped me a lot to disable TPMS in a 2009 E90 M3. I have no iDrive and used the following code using NCS Expert and NCS Dummy (version 0.6.0.9) along with physically disconnecting the RDC cable connection from the module in the rear passenger wheel well above the battery:
CAS
Select ECU Module = KOMBI
KOMBI: RDC_ALIVE - nicht_aktiv
KOMBI: RDC_VERBAUT - nicht_aktiv
KOMBI: RDC_DISP_SWITCH - nicht_aktiv
KOMBI: MMI_ENA_RPA_RDC - aktiv
KOMBI: DSC_MIT_RPA_CC - aktiv
CAS
Select ECU Module = M3DSC
MK60_M3: RPA - aktiv
Awesome glad to help!
Thank you very much ! It is very useful video!
Jesus, you are good at explaining!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for watching
Great share Evan- really appreciate this video and the links. Anyone who needs some of the links I can share these to you. I am waiting on my cable and will try to code out my AFS and the Service reminder.
thanks bro! amazing video
Thank you
Omg it worked thanks for the video now i have visuals when I lock and unlock and the lil clown nose blinks
Thank you man, my 1999 bmw e46 had no lights so I replaced fuse 107 now it's working normal
Thanks for the great video. I'm getting ready to code my Mini R55 Clubman. You're a big help!
Great video instructions. I have done all the setup and validated that the cable is connecting, but I always get a VIN Mismatch every time I go I do the chassis selection for my 2003 e46. I have the exact same cable as yours and I have tried it with all 4 switch positions and all 4 chassis types. Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks Evan great video i saw the one from 50's kid but i don;t think he knows about compatibility mode in windows ,he was going through the trouble of running a virtual machine
very helpful & clear tutorial.. Thanks
Running this on Win10 without issue. Recently coded and activated my E60 530i Bluetooth. Make sure you update Daten files if you run into Coapi errors during coding. Great video.
Make sure pins 7 and 8 are bridged on the inpa cable
Yes
Make sure you're using the latest daten files for your model. They must be loaded into the software. If you don't have the daten files, you can get the package you need from (Bimmergeeks) the latest version on the site is 60.1. I used it without issue. Once you download the daten files you'll need to load them, the easiest way is with the BMW CODING TOOL. Make sure you update Daten and WinKFP. Search for some videos on youtube, I believe there are a few good ones that walk through how to update the files with this tool.
Once you've downloaded the file for your model from BimmerGeeks, and updated try your coding attempt again. You shouldn't get the Coapi error. The reason the error happens is because the Coapi process file is pulled from WinKFP by NCS expert, if NCS expert can't find the file (in WinKFP), it throws the Coapi error. Hope this helps... Good Luck!
Great Video!!!
Great contents and I love your videos and guess what I just subscribed you , thank you
great video , well done
For the module you choose in NCS Dummy it's actually written in NCSexpert which module number it is under the JOBNAME
thanks for the help, and since u're active here, I'm gonna ask u for help with my E70, i'm trying to code the new angle sensor (kindly notice that i have changed and upgraded the iDrive system on my car 6 years ago, so the main receiver unit isn't the one that came with the car. but what i wanna know is, using this software, can i code each and every module independently ? or separately?
see i have changed somethings in the car and now the workshop here that uses BMW software says we can't code your car, because it's asking for the old parts, but they told me you can do this coding "offline" so is this software what means offline?
Very informative video! I have a question about deleting bi xenon and adaptive headlights. You might ask why but my vehicle was in a accident just bad enough that damage to both headlights where I ordered aftermarket brighter halogen lights with led running lights. However the adaptive error is up and I need to reprogram so that the brights work now that its not using xenon hid lights. Is this doable? Basically reprogramming car as if it did not come with the xenon headlights but the halogen version? 2011 BMW 328i
Regards
Mike
Hi Evan Goyuk. Thank you very much for the video. Following the instructions I was able to install properly std tools and inpa can see when k dcan cable is plugged in the pc and when ignition is on. Now my problem is when I press "info" button in inpa software in the ini path, ecu path, and interface I see lots of ???????????
Is yours doing the same?
Any replay will be much appreciated.
Educative. Thumbs up 👍
Finally I found all in one place. Great job. All is going how he describe. Thank you.
Polecam wszystko idzie tak jak opisuje
Great video! Thanks for recording it and sharing, it's by far and away the most step by step intro to coding I've come across. Since you are using macbook pro, would you advise a virtual machine or bootcamp for those of us that will also be using a macbook pro? or is this software indifferent in that regard? I've got the intel processor chip (i5) for reference.
To be honest I use a VM and have had no problems. But I assume boot camp would have similar results
Thanks so much Evan
By the way, Great DIY video
I was getting the vin ERROR until i closed INPA and flicked the switched. (you need to do both) Thanks for the video it was very helpful!
Left or right ?

Nice video to watch ;)
when you swap a push start switch do you have to code the replacement to the car?
I'm glad to see it able to be brute forced to use hex & regedit on windows 11 using bootcg on my iMacPadi 27,, but Im still waiting for someone togetit rooted 4 my jailbroke droid.s and I'll automate the E65's climavibe by a new predictol'rythem code made courtesy of the subtle exploits of my already stolen thoughts. Wow, 😊 Inspirational & Instructive.. You thoroughly took plenty of time including all of the excitement and intricacies too, plus the perfect amount of low monotone... A unique, patient lack of intensity that really sterilized my focus too. Good job.. I haven't been this motivated to learn coding since the accident that led me to translating java into sign language for my one handed keyboarding class.
sweet will try it soon
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!
just a tip if you have problem with the cable driver, the automatic update didnt work for me so I switched to manual and selected the bimmergeeks folder you unzipped and it found the correct driver in there.
You are an absolute legend, thank you
Huge thank you to You man!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏😎😎
Thanks for sharing with us
Thank you!
Hi can you tell me the function that I need to turn on when I close the car the light's turn off too?
Hi Euan,
Great video walk through.
Quick question, my GM3 module went faulty so I replaced from a donor car.
Would I now have to use NCS EXPERT TO code it to factory or is factory not VO ie…… folding mirrors when in reverse etc….. and is back to basic settings?
Do I click process car?
I hope this makes sense.
Look forward to your reply 👍
hello could you help me please to get software can disable or deactivate seat occupancy bmw
I followed the steps to the INPA and even though I haven't even hooked up the cable to the car, it shows ignition: ON. I'll head out to the car to see if connects still, but do you happen to have an idea on if there's a fix?
Hey man! Great video. Wondering if there is a way I can turn off bulb out warnings. I’ve built some custom tail lights with LEDs and don’t want to run a load resistor due to space and also the heat they generate. Looking online there’s not a lot of direct info on where to find it.
thanks for detailed instructions. Is this process the same for szl and airbag/communication module? and do you know what abbreviation is used to identify these 2 modules
Since manual and auto trans E46's use the same cluster, would it be possible to custom code the cluster in a manual trans E46 so it displays the gear selected based on RPM and wheel speed?
I've seen stand alone systems display gear selection on manual transmission cars doing it this way, so it seems possible since an E46 already has all the needed hardware.
Nice job making the video. I was wondering if you can assist me with a question I have. In NCS Dummy , how do I add an option to one of the choices in the trace file. For example in CAS module, in battery coding, how do I add an option for a 92ah agm battery. I hit on one of the choices which was 80ah agm and right clicked, then selected add an option, but then I don’t know how to populate the boxes below for this choice to become part of the trace file.
The problem with INPA 5.0.6 is that it's not fully english, for example error codes is in german. Do you have any solution?
Very useful
Awesome video man. Quick question, does typing in all those commands into your command prompt (in the very beginning) do anything negative to your PC?
No, it will not harm anything on your pc
Help please.
I got a brand new key from Bimmernav, my car doesn't recognise it. Is it the same software to program new key fob? Or to delete a lost key? Knowing that comfort access can only register 2 keys on a e92 2007.
like to find out if it is possible to re program the headlights and tail lights to stay on for an extended period after i lock the car with the keyfob, at the moment the lights stay on for approx 3 secs, if possible i would like to have them stay on for 60secs or so..is this possible?
2002 320i e46
Superb video, I wonder who are those stupids who have disliked it. Keep it up Evan
thanks my frind
Where did you get the other profile files? I only have the two that the BimmerGeeks Std Tools came with?
Thanks for this video! I only have one problem. If I try to code the changes to my BC1 module of my mini R50 I get the following fault: coapi-2060 fehler. How can I fix this?
An excellent video, for those of us that are starting to use INPA and the rest of the software.
However. After installing the software following the instructions here, I get all the INPA diagnostics in German. I left all the tools in a folder on the desktop called BMW TOOLS, and moved the translations.csv file there, but yet the diagnostics are not translated. Should the .csv file be located somewhere else? Txs for the help
Just started looking at your UA-cam articles. MASSIVE information! I am very interested in the coding tutorial. I have many questions but I will ask two for now. First, do you have a tutorial on coding using a MacBook Pro? Second, do you offer, for a fee of course, one on one tutorials for people who are REALLY not tech savvy? I have an 01 325CI convertible that I would love to be able drop/raise the top, off my key fob!
I look forward to your input and am going continue watching your UA-cam's.
All my tutorials are on my MacBook Pro. I have not done any sessions on tutorials. What specifically do you need help setting up windows? If your not tech savvy I recommend buying Carly or the smartTop module
Great Tutorial but I have a question I have an F12 M6 but the ncs expert doesn't have that chassis number available, i downloaded the F10 Daten update and am stuck at how to add it to ncs expert i'm either halfway there or travelling in completely the wrong direction! the ncs website doesn't seem to give any help like this are you able to point me in the right direction?
Very informative video. Thanks.
I could code an E46 323CI after following this just fine. However the E46 M3 remains unchanged. No errors though. Coding gets finished just fine.
I already did an SMGII tune using MSSTuner so there must not be an issue with the K+DCAN cable. I need to try it again tomorrow fresh.
I recently picked up a 2011 e82, I tried to code my mirrors to fold on locking , but BimmerCode mentions my FRM to have severe faults. Would I be able to get around this by coding via NCS?
Thank you
I have the 99 e46 320d. It has an OBD2 port but apparently thar doesn't work. Additionally there is also the round OBD port in front. Is there a way to code through the round port?
So I activated all the settings for having the hazard lights flash and beep when I lock or unlock the car with the remote. I wrote to the ECU, but the changes didn't take effect. Nothing happens when I lock or unlock. What DID take effect was the comfort closing with remote option. That worked right away. Any help on this?
I have a 2002 325i, 4-door
EDIT: the "unlock all doors with one press" option doesn't work either. I even checked the fsw.psw.man file and all the changes are listed there, but they don't work
My windows 10 computer comes up with an error when trying to run St212 and says program only works on xp professional, even after compatibility mode, why is this
Hello. Yesterday i have done a retrofit on my e65. Comfort seats with heating and cooling. Doesn't seem to work so do they need coding? My car didn't had this functions before. Thanks.
So if I have a VAG COM VCDS Diagnostic Cable - OBD K Line and I am wanting to code with NCS Expert on a E39 530i I should bridge my pins 7 and 8??
