Nice tutorial! I also find there is another big benefit to the angles- They create “anhedral” which has the effect of reducing/damping the dutch roll (yaw wag) that is so prevalent in swept wing aircraft. Throwing plate style winglets on after using the angled type makes the difference immediately apparent.
One other really cool feature is if a wing is a little tail heavy, you can often fix it by angling the lower winglets out. This adds wing area to the aft portion of the wing and has the same effect as moving the CG forward. You can experiment with the angle until it feels right.

That’s awesome Nate. They work so well it’s pretty incredible. Brian had a crash test hobby wing that became a fantastic slow flyer after he put on some fairly large bottom angled only winglets. Thanks again for showing us the way of the folded winglets!

OMG! I've admired the firmcore winglets for awhile now! I've seen your comments about their low altitude, low speed advantages and I am totally going to do this tonight!! Thanks!

Sweet! Let me know how you like them! Don't forget to check your center of gravity before and after you make the switch as a little change in weight at the wingtips on a swept wing can make a big difference in the CG.
