This is a good scheme. It's surprisingly hard to find warriors of chaos painting videos. I'm gutted that I sold 30 of mine years back (the really old plastic hunchback models) and now wish I hadn't!
Man the Age of Sigmar CW looks SO GOOD when they are ranked up together on square bases. I had forgotten how cool formation-lines were. Especially with shields on the models! If you really don't want to use the Marauders models, I saw a guy online who had converted the Untamed Beasts from Age of Sigmar into Marauders by giving them shields and switching up some weapons. They looked AWESOME, and I'm sure you could use them as a base too to make your own take on the Marauders. I would personally love to see you convert that!
Really enjoying the Old World content! That's a nice looking Warrior of Chaos. Reminds me of the old 6th edition ones they did for the Storm Of Chaos campaign
I’m here for Old World, Orcs & square basing AoS product. But I first found your channel when you were painting Kruleboyz and have been hooked ever since. Those new 40k Kroots look like a good project for you.
Bring on the unit challenge!! I really love that method for flayed flesh, which makes me want to build and paint a new unit of Flayed-Ones for my Necrons. I'll need to grab a pot of Plaguebearer Flesh, too. The Darkoath Savages would make a great Marauder unit if you stick with an unaligned theme. Other Warcry warbands would work for God dedicated units.
I’m here for pretty much old world, only found your channel the other day and working my way through your old world content. I’ve fallen out of love with 40k over the years and am super hyped and refreshed for old world
That was very helpful, I bought the pack a while back & have been staring at them for a year now. Now they're built & need paint. So thank you for that.
Brilliant a really inspirational guide on the Old World really liking these videos, especially using the AOS in the Old World. I would like to see the other 15 being painted up...
There's great options for chaos warriros that have the marks of various gods for khorne, nurgle and slaanesh from each of their AoS lines and all the warcry warbands + AoS chaos ranges gives you a huge range of options for highly themed marauders.
Looks great. Nice simple scheme that you could easily customize by changing a color here or there. Looks like I need to get some square bases for the AoS chaos guys I've had in a box for way too long.
Great stuff here!! Iv really been enjoying yours and others Old World content and am slowly coming around to it, as I originally didnt care for it. Funny enough iv actually been considering Slaves to Darkness recently. The aesthetic has really been growing on me and seeing these Warriors of chaos may actually be a thought as well. I have 2 full armies for AoS, and a few small starts to other armies between warcry and underworlds combined, so I could go with these guys to start Old Worlds if I come around to them more.
Loving the content for old world and timer video is great idea, peachy did it for new cadians 122nd and it genuinely inspired me to grab a cadian army and see if I could match. I'd do the same on this im sure as your style is very genuine, intuitive and relaxing/inspiring!
For a Slaanshe army I could see doing the cape with a thinned down purple over the silver, and then highlighting up with a wet pallet mix of pink and purple/pink color shifting paint.
I know it doesn’t come up very often, but I would do a base coat of gray or white before applying the contrast skin tone, or the lizard skin in other cases. I still think there was too much of a metallic sheen even though you layered it up. I think there should be a stark difference between the middle of the armour and the fabric, so by priming it all in leadbelcher, you lose that divide. As for the chaos undivided armor, you could do a watered down blue, green, red, etc on various units, to give them a slight tinge in one direction or another. I know this doesn’t really make it speed painting as much but I think that would add more visual interest when you’re looking at rows of them.
Wife was walking past while I was watching this. She said, "This is chaos, right? Is that cape dead or is it still alive?" (I married well...) Not sure about seeing a whole army, but I would love to see this whole unit doesn't, please. Looks good, keep up the good work!!!
Fantastic work as always. Hahaha, you are really tempting us to fall to the Dark Gods. I would love to see your take on the Marauders, I agree the models have aged a lot so I would love to see what you would use instead.
One thing I absolutely love about you is that you use paints that I've already have. Not sure if it's a positive or negative point, but it's nice for me.
Thanks for another great video Andy! I know I tended to disregard warriors of chaos as being sort of psycho Vikings on steroids, and why bother with that when you could have beastmen or orks? But this is a really cool paint job, and I'd love to see a completed unit!
@@MediocreHobbies,Awesome I'm going to be using the Mantic Ogres for mine since the club I go to really doesn't care about who made the figs as long as people are playing the game.
Great miniature! My only advice would be to make a uniform finish with some kind of varnish. The shiny contrast paint on the cape really stands out for me, so perhaps just hit the cape with some lahmian medium or equivalent. I love the putrid flesh bit thawing out on his back, perhaps a candidate for Nurgle? 🤔
I’m so happy to see you doing TOW - I have no interest in AoS and 10th edition 40k has absolutely killed my desire to even look at 40k right now so I’m delighted that you’re doing so much TOW stuff and not really touching those other two. How do you get the brush onto the inside of the cloak? A lot of minis, especially the Sisters of Battle, have impossible-to-reach robes and cloaks I can never get into.
My theory is if you can’t get a brush in to paint it, nobody is going to be looking there anyway 😄 I just leave areas like that in shadow as they would be anyway!
Love it - keep the old world content comming :) Fun fact: Warriors og Chaos has Heavy Armour, not Full Plate, even the Knights are limited to Heavy Armour. Units of Chosen can buy an uppgrade to Full Plate tho.
Human skin is translucent and the pinkish hue comes from the blood. If you have callouses on your foot or hand just slice one off with a blade. That's the actual color of flayed skin. As it spoils it becomes harder, gets burnt in the sun. However, spoiled / necrotic skin is actually more blue and black in tone. Also it has an orange peel texture then. :) Ask me how I know. Necrotic flesh is also blueish black, maybe a little green on the surface. However, green is more of a puss and it needs living flesh to create it (it's spoiled muscle fluids). :) Just a note from my own experiences. I really do like your warrior's look, just like with your other Old World stuff. :)
@@MediocreHobbies This reminds me... The King you painted? That skin? Spot on. I had terminal cancer back in the day and it lead to really nasty stays at the hospital. Been through a meatgrinder. Not a fan of the metallic undercoat for the non-metallic areas that you're using contrast paints on. Even when layering opaque paints on top you end up with reflective surfaces in the recesses. Considering the simplicity of the shapes of the non-metallic areas (cloak, straps, skin, etc.) it would probably be better to simply apply an opaque base coat to all of those areas (red for the cloak, brown for the leather, etc.) You can even use the same wash, as red, flesh tones and brown can all very easily be washed with an umber wash, such as Contrast Darkoath Flesh. For added simplicity, you can hit the entire model, including the metal parts, with Darkoath Flesh to give the armor a subdued brown tinge, which would give the armor some wear and definition, which would really bring out the effect of the metallic highlight at the end. So the process would be: -Prime black -Zenithal metallic -Block in non-metallics (brown, red, flesh) -Coat entire model evenly with Darkoath Flesh -Highlight where necessary

So the process would be:
-Prime black
-Zenithal metallic
-Block in non-metallics (brown, red, flesh)
-Coat entire model evenly with Darkoath Flesh
-Highlight where necessary
