At the time of this video, this lift retailed for $1,600. Over the years it has also come and gone multiple times from the Harbor Freight website. My best guess is they sell them when they have them in stock.
Remember, this is a scissor lift, it's not really designed to get access to the underside of a vehicle. You really need something like a post lift for that kind of access. This is perfect for lower body and detail work, you can wheel all around the car without post casting shadows or getting in your way. It's a different tool, for a different job.
Also I see a lot of concerns about safety. I did a follow up PSA regarding safety concerns, hopefully this explains how not to use a scissor lift. ua-cam.com/video/RAqqgq7ielE/v-deo.html
My opinion is feel comfort with German style than scissors or two pole type. Sine both of it have only small support. Stability is not good enough for me. ua-cam.com/video/ocMXSF32NPE/v-deo.html
I really like this presentation. The guy never praised or bashed the lift but instead showed it's short comings along with the positive in a very objective manner.
I agree Sir, that's why I subbed he seems to appreciate what he has and make it work or better I like that attitude because I've got enough negative in my life.
Hey also hope you guys have a great week too.
I agree he did a very good job with his presentation. He also did his research about what you can and cannot do with the jack.
I also agree great presentation
I agree, I like reviews like this with the actual findings of the equipment and what they did to fix it. I wouldn't mind having one of those lifts, it would sure make routine maintenance easier and I'd probably do a lot more too LOL.
It’s a scissor lift...not designed for true automotive work... if your doing real mechanic work you need a 2 post lift. These are best for tire work.
I've had the same lift for nearly 3 years now without any pproblems. It has suited my needs for brake jobs and tire changes. It has saved my back by not having to bend over and contort.
That's what I was thinkin
How much does it cost?
My buddy has one. Works well and when we need underside access. We use the lift then place Jack stands under the car and let the lift down. Simple
I like how calm you are when crap happens.
Setbacks are bound to happen with automotive work. Fixing this lift is practice for fixing a car lol
"But it is harbor Freight, we're just going to deal with it." I agree, for what they charge, not much, for anything) I also expect less then perfection, and usually am not disappointed. A good realistic review, thanks!
Nice review. Appreciate the reasonable explanations of the product. The follow up to this responding to comments was well done also. It’s clear you are trying to think stuff through. Keep posting!
Big thanks for putting this informative and quality vid together.
I've had one of these HF lifts for many years. It has its limitations but overall, it has worked out well.
Great review. Great voice. Straight to the point. No cussing or goofy music. Top notch.
Excellent review. You covered everything that most people would need!
I bought one to help get my mother-n-law out of our house and out to the curb.
BulletSpoung how bad is she on the hydraulic system.
Well thought out process. I just roll mine out the door, and let her stop where ever.
YA me too.
I hope that it was a one time use and that she won’t be coming back. If that’s the case, money well spent
BulletSpoung stupid comment.
This is a great unit. It passed my last test as it picks up my 06 crew cab silverado 1500 4x4 with no problem at all. I was a bit hesitant at first but shes a beast. It feels secure in the air. Doesnt feel like its gona tip over even after i give it a couple shoves to test the sturdiness. I had to change the oring in the pick up tube and oil pan gasket. Have had this lift for about 4 years and its definatley a great addition to my home garage.
Thanks for tutorial, typical standard for delivery, not only Harbor Freight. Putting my plan to order on hold. Didn't realize how heavy this beast is.
I’m so excited to have found your video, I need a scissor lift. Outside of that very informative and non-biased objectivity. Wonderful work!
Wow, what a great review! Thank you for not moaning and crying. You see a problem you fix it!
Great review and very objective! Really appreciate that you took the time to explain everything thank you!
Yes I agree But it’s not For Me 🤔
Pretty good unbiased review👍👍
I do like the presentation too, it was very professional. Thanks.
Great review. I could see that being a handy lift in short garages. I would like to see it modified with some kind of f outriggers before I would trust it at full height with a vehicle on it. Looks like a good lift for wheel/tire/suspension work but like most scissors jacks it is really in the way for any under car maintenance. Good video!
Very informative video! The presentation was awesome! Not once did you criticize the lift but you didn’t give it any praises either... It seems as if you wanted to leave that up to the viewers! I myself don’t have the room for a device such as this but it was pretty cool 😎 to watch it in action.
Like your review, straightforward and very informative!
7:10 I love the work table lift idea. This is a fantastic alternative use for this lift.
My brother bought one of these too...He uses it religiously ..His pump wasn't beat up..& works great👍
Nice find! I've always been a fan of blue 69's. Glad I found you and looking forward to upcoming content on it.
I'm glad you kept the video up. Good info
Have one for 4 years now and its been a great addition to the garage. I have picked up my crew cab chevy silverado, my mercury monterey minivan and trailblazer with no problem. Great for changing oil.
@Fred Wills Still using mine. Dropped the oil pan on my silverado to replace o-ring on pickup tube. This lift has been awesome. You can always put tall jackstands in the front and back as a safety precaution. You can get those from harbor freight as well
Good value. But, for some of us chasing down faults might not go so well ! Great vid. Ta.
You are a trooper to fix all those issues with the pump 👍👍
I'm really impressed, great video presentation and review.
Great review. I’ve been wanting a lift. Back when I was a kid my dad had a auto repair. He bought a lift from a gas station that had closed. It was a frame style with sliding legs. Man it was nice. Now that I’m 59 I just can’t crawl around on the floor anymore. Thanks for the video
I'm 31 and thinking about getting a lift, do it dude, I couldnt imagine another 30yrs of crawling around on a creeper and jack stands hahahaha Itt's cheap but holy cow I work on cars too much to be doing that for much longer
I got a www.maxjaxusa.com/ a while ago, best decision i have made on car repair tools, it was pricey, but, is great for car work in a garage you use
I'm 37 and I can't do it anymore.. one car repair on the ground feels like I worked on 10 cars under the hood
@@teenice894 just get on welfare and get a good stamp caad. Good ole sleepy Joe Biden is handing out ALOT of freebies....
Years ago, you could have a"pit", where you could stand up under the car to grease it, change oil, etc. For some reason, they were outlawed. I worked for years at a Chrysler assembly plant in a pit, with cars moving down the line. I guess a major corporation can do it but not a garage or a hobbyist. Might makes right !
idk how the hell people can give a thumbs down for this great video congrats buddu one nice hell of a informative clip
I like your attitude. You could have sent that part back, but i admire your willingness to fix it.
I bought one of these about 15 years ago.i used it for working on VW bugs,it was great for removing the engine, brake work and many other things. Never had a problem with it.
To get around the ground clearance issue you can build two long ramps out of 3 or more stacked 2" x 12"s that are flush on one end and stepped on the other at about a 12" offset/stagger to drive the vehicle up and over it. Just make sure the top level is long enough for the wheelbase and a 4" x 4" tire stop at the flush end of each ramp. Thanks for the video.
I really liked the cherry picker mounted on the tractor. Do a video showing the modifications. The two videos on the scissor lift were well done!
I built one for my tractor a few yrs ago I replaced the engine in my truck with it I don't have a garage.
Mine arrived with no issues. Very happy with the lift especially with the 25% off coupon. I enhanced mine with a hydraulic quick connect.
Im a strong Harbor Freight client, for over 20 years and I like to read or view (as in your case) the product reviews ; you did excellent in every respect, stayed on the subject, advised about the discount at purchase and with the coupon, you indicated your problems encountered, your displeasure about how you solved them & why, your advise to Harbor Freight about packaging and your overall rating; it does help , i too want to buy one and this helped finalize that decision, thanks !!
You’re such a great customer I have no patience to buy item and then paying that price. For then having do repairs too! 😡 You’re an helluva good customer you didn’t even bashed the company! 👍🏼👍🏼 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Have one for 14 years. Love it. I rebuilt the cylinders s year ago. Wierd thing I notice you say is yours is 220. Mine is 120v. Just plug it in and go. Lifted my 454 big block k2500 4x4 suburban last month all the way up, no problems.
Also we made wide ramps to drive low vehicles on it to clear. Also if you want to move it raise it up to first safety notch. That rotates the hitch plate and makes moving a lot easier.
I would have to say it's a nice unit
Thanks so much for making this video, it's awesome... I truly appreciate everything. Would you happen to have videos/clips or pictures of your repairs. If you do, that would be awesome to see...
Love your easy going attitude.
We have one at work and man we lift everything with this thing!
Edson Valdez lift these nuts Edson
the curtius "heads up " on the shipping is a good FYI .... and the coupon too . good video
THANKS for the REVIEW
Very Informative

Good to know since im buying a house this year. I get to work on my vic so this is good info.
Cool video. Nice problem solving. Thanks for sharing. Cheers! : )
I have the same lift and brought it used. Love for what it's capable of doing. Everything you use in life has limitations, learning to work around them makes life challenging! !! Also if you raise the lift up 1 to 2 hi , it makes moving easier. Congratulations!
@@robw7205 raise it up about 2feet. Then use the pump to move around. It makes it shorter(the wheel base) and easier to move
@@robw7205 The lift raises up to just under 4 feet. I think Terry means putting a 1-2 inch pad underneath the Lift if you want to reposition it.
Thanks alot for product info especially the price/coupon. Great video
Nice video. I always wanted one of those and you put down this one. Thank you,
A couple 2x6's today costs almost as much as the lift.
Another box delivered courtesy of Ace Ventura 😄
Lmao. I remember that.
Hello sir how are you today alllll righty then I have a package for you. Sounds broken. Most likely sir I'm sure it was something nice. Now if you just sign here
it's ok, i'm a limo driver
Alrighty then LOL 😂
😂😂😂😂
Great job man!!!!Excellent video,thank you
Dude mad respect for that custom cherry picker !!!!! Subscribed!
this style lift has been around for years. i bought one used from a guy that also bought it used. he said it was probably 10-15 years old. I had to replace the seals in the cylinders but it works fine now.
Great job on the video. I'm a major DWYER too, but the issues you encountered with this purchase would have been too much for me. I am installing a 4-post lift soon and I went with the Bendpak brand. I am making a video as well.
This guy never complained, all I hear is that shouldn't be a big deal, this can be fixed, that can be fixed no problem. Nothing is a surprise to him. Even when the path is not there let's just keep walking the road will come. You got you a number one fan here.
I’ve had one for about two years. I have a small garage with a 9’ ceiling. Its perfect for access to front end, rear end, interior work.. pretty much everything other than transmission and some exhaust. I did buy the pad extensions because my foxbody is low to the ground. I did need to build a ramp system to drive onto because everything bottoms out. Even a basic Nissan Sentra. When the car is on the lift, it’s a bit sketchy. I feel like it wouldn’t take much to to push it over. Of course, the higher you go, the worse it gets. All in all it’s a great lift. It is quite limited, but, it makes up for it in convenience. Oh, I also use it to lift my tractor and it doubles as an adjustable work surface when I don’t have a car on it.. I just toss a sheet of plywood on it.
I love the positivity abt u sir everyone crys too much these days
Im glad you used a real car like the Lincoln Town Car for the lift test thats about a 4500lbs car.
My Phaeton is available for a real stress test. That's 5230 pounds of German excellence right there.
@@theprojectproject01 you really want to risk it?😂
Just got mine a couple months ago, didn't get around to unpacking and setting it up til a couple weeks ago. I'm excited when It lifted the car. No major issues on mine, except needed to buy my own 3 prong cable to hook up the bare wires.
Awesome review, you have mad skills friend.
I've had this same identical lift in my garage for fifteen years. It has saved me a ton of money. Works like a champ.
I would say for someone who works on alot of vehicles its definitely worth the money
Ok did u get from h f ?
@ t wiki, what do u use it for
@@wildestcowboy2668 Working on cars.
I've had one since 1936 still a beast works great.
I seen fallow up..am sry ppl get on these an all the sudden there know it all's.. But not one of them brought one took the time to review it either. I appreciate you and you did a great job..
Fallen world...
Very good info, I always wanted a lift for my garage and at 68 it’s almost a necessity after my 10th back surgery!
Looks like a good lift for the money. I shop at Harbor Freight also and I don't mind their products for the money. I was also glad to see that you found the items that were wrong and fixed them. I do that many times when I buy something that is not quite right. Just wanted to throw in a comment on gaining more clearance in the ceiling area. If the garage door springs are adjusted well the openers can be mounted totally on one side. This would give room in the middle of the rails to let the vehicle raise higher...
Nice review. You can make up a quick disconnect at the pump so you can easily detach the unit from the lift,
similar connections used on tractors and other hydraulic lines like the Bobcats. I have the Bendpak MD6-XP.
I got a queen size bed frame at Habitat ReStore, put some OSB on it and just push it over the lift when not in use,
can keep my mower, leaf machine and other stuff on top when not using the lift,.
I easily dropped the subframe on my '99 Taurus wagon with this type of lift,
using engine support bar tool, and no problem at all to swap transmission out. The front of the car hangs over the lift for easy access.
Many Corvette and Porsche owners use this style lift too, some recess it in the concrete to keep it flush with
diamond plate over it when not in use.
Sure a post lift lets you work under the car, however you have the posts in the way all the time.
I like the scissor lift design.
BTW you have a lot more patience fixing the lift then I would have had.
Best Regards
When I saw you bring in the town car I knew you were a man of class
I have this lift, i have used it a lot, I've had chevy Silverado's Toyota, trucks on it and it is very safe as long as you have it on a good spot for lifting your vehicle, and the safety lock is engaged.
Thanks for the info, it was very helpful.
You should always check vehicle's stability on lift after it is off the ground a few inches.
Great attitude, not expecting perfection from harbor freight.
Good straight-forward review.
I mounted 1of these down in a pit to keep it on floor level to raise to needed level when trucks came in to dock it worked really well
I had snapons version of this for years and it was rated to pick up a full size extcab truck and it did a great job . The arms were way beefier and longer and had extendable tubes that those pads set in for different heights. I added a wider heavier steel pad on the front for side stability. . It was perfect for my paint and bodyshop. And is still in operation 20yrs old . This HF lift isnt far off the quality of the snapon 1 . I might go get 1 and modify for my commercial zeroturn mowers. The price is good considering I'm gonna cut it up and modify right off the bat .
just FYI, Snap-On DOES NOT MAKE lift equipment or floor jacks. THEY NEVER HAVE!
This equipment is made FOR Snap-On by import companies, I.E., Japan or China AND Possibly USA, which is very rare back then AND these days.
I am in the hydraulic repair business so I know this to be a fact.
You are ONLY PAYING FOR THE NAME, AND TRIPLE THE PRICE AT THAT! Not to be mean, just telling you a true fact.
I know many mechanics who buy from snap-on and the jacks and or lifts are NOT MADE by them, only painted with their logo on the equipment. All you have to do is look closely on the tag or frame and you will see where it was made.
Nice review. Just make damn sure to get enough height clearance to engage that first anti-drop-lock!
They should have put in one lower notch
Fantastic review. I didn't even know HF offered a scissor lift. The lift worked great and lifted very high. I really appreciate how you are forthcoming about the problems and and fixes you encountered. Overall a great value. The clearance issues are a real problem for me. I don't think HF offers 25% percent coupons anymore
I have had mine for at least 15 years,,,it still serves well,,, I use it at least once a week,,,and more most times. It lifts my car,,fullsize Tundra pick up,,and my motorcycle,,,,its possibly the most sought after piece of equipment by my neighbors. I give it a thumbs up all around. One neighbor has bought one as well,,,,,,if there has been any issue its the coating on the steel, it really failed too early. But that has been touched up over the years as required.
Good overview, "Harbor Freight" should thank you. Thanks for sharing.
Geeze, you had to jump through some hoops to get that lift set-up. Nice work.
I have had the exact unit in my shop for about a year. Always give the vehicle a shake before getting under and use basic safety sense
Great very informative great job on details and to the point.
I need one of these for my bed when it rains
I worked at HFT for 12 years in the store and for corporate, I visited the Quality department in CA a number of times, and despite some of their tools being junk (for anyone but the casual user) the QA department took their jobs seriously, its a lot of work to change something but wherever improvements and safety was concerned they tried their best to roll out those changes in the next iteration. I was proud to work for a company like HFT, they actually do care about bringing good quality tools at lower prices, it may take them longer to get there than the big names but they try.
I don't know if I should believe you
@@wildestcowboy2668 I don't know how frequently you shop at HFT but if you've noticed that many products have multiple SKU"s, some of the tarps for instance have 5 plus different SKU"s. This is because each SKU has some modification to the design that effects the items performance or longevity. The QC department does its research, suggests a change, the change is implemented as a new SKU # then they see how well it performs. I was at the QC building when they were prototyping the Hercules and Bauer Drills, They were doing real world and stress tests on the drills. They had 3 or 4 huge stones out back of the building and they were drilling thousands of holes to see how well the drills held up and how long the battery would last under heavy load.
@@01srob how come you quit
@@wildestcowboy2668 Burned out, In the last couple of years there I was doing a bunch of PM work across pretty much every state in the country traveling nonstop. My average work week was in excess of 90 hours and I had some 300+ days of rental cars in my last year. I cant blame HFT for all of it, most of it was just the requirements of the job but some of it was due to my own pedanticism. I received an opportunity to take a very slight pay cut but go down to about 50 hours a week with zero travel, I took it and it was good for my health. But to be honest I miss the work and the travel. If I ever got the opportunity to work for them in a similar position again I would take it in a heartbeat.
@@01srob I can respect that. Be careful up there.
It goes way higher than I expected. I might have to get one of these.
At Walmart, we use the Challenger lifts for tire work. It's a similar type of unit, but it is bolted solid to the floor with concrete lag bolts. There is a drive over ramp on both ends and we use 3 different types of lift blocks which are not mounted to the lift. Which one depends on the vehicle being lifted. Maximum lift height is only about 18 inches so you have to get down on the floor to do tire work. The entire length of the lifting platform is only about 40 inches or so, so some vehicles can't be lifted because their lift points are ahead and behind where the lift table can reach. Those are occasional happenings, but fairly rare. The max lifting capacity is around 8,000 lbs so the lift can raise a full sized 1 ton pickup. The manufacturer does provide a lifting guide for us, but it's geared towards their 2 point spider lift, and doesn't really help much with the lift we use. It would be helpful if they produced a lifting guide specifically for this lift, so we don't have to guess if the vehicle can be lifted with this lift or not. But that's Walmart for you. Corporate contracts for items that don't really make the job any easier.
I would love to have one of these to make a work table!
Save a bunch of money and get the motorcycle lift table. I have two and they make excellent work tables. I've used it to lift motorcycles, trailers, quads, transmissions, etc.
@6:32 "55 and a half inches, so almost 4 feet" I got a kick out of that phrase...
I took that to mean he lifted the car almost 4 feet. The sill of the car did not start on the concrete floor.
Been looking to get one of these to save my back over the long term, tired of bending over .. thanks for the video man
Great info worth just taking note.
I’d really love a lift of some kind I’ve only ever had jack stands to work with, looks like it might be ok for suspension work but doesn’t look like you could easily take out a gearbox although I haven’t seen it from underneath in the raised position although I do understand your intention is to use it as a bench thanks for posting this video
It's not good for any work under the center of the vehicle. It's also to tall when flat. The arms dont move around under it when you park anything smaller than a full size or SUV. That's why he said planks me be needed.
I'm currently selling mine for these reasons and a couple others.
For safety lift a couple inches and give it a good shake to make sure it's stable
I love the comments about harbor freight junk. I never knew they made products.
I love mine
good video, thanks for posting. was wanting something like this and the price doesnt seem bad. you've helped me a lot on this subject.
Great review.
If I bought one of those I'd have to cut the concrete in the garage about an inch in the spot I would permanently leave it so I got better clearance. Other than that I think I would buy it.
Problem is the wheels need to roll as the jack is being raised or lowering so you couldn't notch your concrete !!
Recess it flush into the floor , no clearance issues. Put a aluminum cover over it when not in use.
I paid 1,800 for my Dannmar Max Jack, worth checking out before you go buy this. It’s a twin post lift, goes up about 44 inches and leaves the entire space below the car open. Clear access to the transmission, engine and suspension. I use a low rolling stool and it’s a lot better than swimming around on the concrete. Still not as good as a full size twin post lift, but that’s next. 😁
I had one of these (another brand but identical machine) for a brief time. I bought it to pull the motor on my front drive car by dropping the whole front subframe assembly onto a pallet with a pallet jack and raising the car up off of it. It did work, but I actually didn't like it very much for what I used it for. It wasn't quite high enough to walk under and so I had to be on a chair or my knees while under it and it just wasn't very comfortable at full height. Also, like you said, you can't move it around when it's not in use, and it takes up a lot of space, so think of it as a semi-permanent fixture wherever you decide to plop it. Finally, the method I was using wasn't a very good one, so I sold it and invested a third of the money in a transmission jack attachment for my floor jack, some truck jack stands that will get the car about 3 feet off the ground with plenty of room to work on a creeper, and one of those transmission support bars to hold either the engine or transmission in place while you remove the other. The next time I pulled a front drive transmission out of something, I dropped the subframe by itself and just used the above tools. Job went ten times smoother and it was just way better suited to the task at hand. It was very similar to doing a transmission on a rear drive car that way. Drop the subframe out of the way (like a crossmember), remove the dogbone mounts and top mount, unhook all the wires and lines, support it with the transmission jack, unbolt it from the engine, lower it down and wheel it out. Reassembly was just as easy. In fact, with the proper jack setup, installing the transmission by myself went smoother than it ever had with even two or three guys top and bottom trying to line everything up and muscle it around on top of a floor jack. That said, this scissor lift would be a great setup for someone doing a lot of brake jobs or for a tire shop. It's just about the right height for working on wheels or doing suspension stuff. Might also work for a body shop that needs to do some work on rocker panels. It's a good height for that as well. Pretty much anything else I'd rather have a 2 post lift (only marginally more expensive) or just a good old set of jack stands. The scissor lift is just not a good all purpose lift.
This is a very good TV show and we love it!
Seen 1 recessed into floor worked great in small shop .
I was just thinking about that. I wouldn’t want to be the first person to do it lol.
That would be nice and make a easy removable hard cover when not in uses to travel over
Would be easier to just put some boards along each side to drive up on. Instant clearance. Bolt the boards down if you want them to be permanent, and don't mind tripping over them. lol
I have the snap on version of this lift made a plate to fill hole in center makes a perfect garage island in middle to work on fantastic for heavy items as you can load table (island) when on floor
Holy crap, it DID IT and bonus your still alive
