I love watching your molder do it’s magic; but, I have to admit to biting my knuckles when you open it up and put your hands in to make adjustments. I was SO HAPPY to see that you wired it up with a separate disconnect switch and are not relying on just the on-board power switch for safety. Thanks for featuring that in the vid.

I think it's a pretty ingenious inexpensive way to insulate the ceiling!! Way to think out of the box!
Nathan did you say that air nailer makes the job go tin times faster? I bought one of those darn nibblers 'cause the salesman said you could cut four eight-foot cuts in under five minutes. I brought the blasted thing back and told that salesman there was something wrong with the tool 'cause it took me fifteen minutes to cut them. The salesman said let's go into the shop and see what's wrong with it. He turned it on, and I said what's that noise? Great video thumbs up.

Back in the old days when I wood hang drywall on the ceiling I made a T with 2x4's. I wood use the T to prop up the drywall on the ceiling.

You will find that a dark ceiling will make your shop darker, needs to be a light reflective color.
You amaze me at just how resourceful you are Nathan. What you manage to do by yourself, like putting up the iron sheets on the ceiling, is amazing. I think your iron with the insulation bats was a great way to do the ceiling. What I do hope is that you will paint it white so that you keep your shop as bright as possible, a dark ceiling will waste a lot of any lights you install. Cheers mate, Don from South Australia.

If you do metal again here’s a tip. You know where the 2x4’s are. Predrill 1/16” holes while in a stack on sawhorses. No more fighting with screws!
I really like that barn tin on the ceiling, it gives the shop a nice rustic look, and as you said, it was cheap, which it makes it even better.

Quick tip, if you are just doing straight cuts in sheet metal and don't have a power nibbler or power shears, just put an old carbide tooth blade BACKWARDS in your circular saw. Works great!
Just remember hearing, eye and hand protection.
Ironically people pay a fortune for that antiqued metal ceiling. .....lol I love that man, it looks fantastic.
I love my nibbles also, but to make straight cuts on a flat piece of metal, take a plywood blade and put it in your skill saw backwards. Quicker and straighter than the nibbler

The shop is coming right along. It may be a mess right now but I think it will be manageable once you get everything set up the way you want it. I like the used metal for the ceiling and the walls.
I suppose you could double up the lighter insulation depending on how much you have but your wood stove ought to heat up the place rather nicely. The outside is looking very nice and when the big doors are installed it will be "spiffy"

Great job. My father and I put up some out buildings on the farm in Alabama with recycled tin. They are still holding up after fifty years.
Clever idea using used sheet metal inside with the insulation above it. Economical also.
That used barn metal not only a lot cheaper alternative, but it also looks great. Both on the ceiling, and that wall. You mentioned the nailer, and buying it at Harbor Freight.
I've purchased quite a few tools from them over the years. Usually at least 50% cheaper than brand name products, and honestly don't think I've ever had any of their tools fail me. At least not yet.........

A drywall loft would have helped lift the tin into place, you can rent those at most building supply or buy one at Harbor Freight Jla

I picked up a pneumatic nibbler for around $75. It works excellent but the best straight line cuts are done with the circ saw and metal cutting blade or backwards plywood blade.
Try putting a carbide tip saw blade (backwards) in a circular saw. Works the best for cutting sleet metal.
It’s gonna be nice on cold days when you fire up that stove and all the metal walls and ceiling start popping and pinging as it warms up. I love that sound.

Small tip on chicken run. If you paint the hardware cloth black it makes it easier to see through especially from a distance

As a former remodel contractor may I make a suggestion? make a set of stands 16"x 16" plywood or OSB with 4 2x4s in between in each corner short enough for you to step up onto but tall enough to reach ceiling (maybe 10"?) then lay a plank across them and Voila! instant staging- far easier than a ladder.

I use a angler grinder with a diamond blade attached, same blade used for over 36 12’ sheets and still a good blade. Cuts straight just need eye & ear protection.

Have you thought about putting a chain across each wood storage slot? When I worked at CWS we used them as a safety thing - helps catch the wood if it falls when sorting off another slot
One of those take down yellow (harbor freight) scaffold works great for interior ceilings, safer than a ladder got two myself and happy i got em
Nathan, you can put a 2x4 against the wall to lay the tin on to help hold in place while you nail it. It just takes a couple of screws to hold it until you are done, I used the same process hanging drywall by myself
Great use of the tin. A very period look but not like a fancy pressed tin ceiling.
The nibbler is a great tool, you can be more creative with them, cutting curves and circles for example. But have a look on the ground below where you were cutting. It will be covered in miniature curved sharp toenails, worse on bare feet than Lego. Drag a magnet through the grass. Your cats will thank you.

Agree about the Makita Nibler friend, but one thing to watch is the 1/4 moon shaped pieces the nibler uts out. I made the mistake of cutting my sheeting on trestles in the driveway and we have had four cars get flat tyres as these little monsters screw their way into the rubber over time, and they last for ever. Cut sheeting where you aint gonna be driving.
Love the metal. I have taken new corrugated roof panels and aged them for ceiling panels and wainscoting. Makes a cheap and durable finish material.
A person I know has one of the metal cutters, what they didn't like about it, was it was hard to catch or pick up the half-moon shaving.
Before you get to far you want to get some crawl boards across the rafters so you can get from one end to the other. Make them about 24” wide 👍

Nathan on your fence removal. Try using your 3 point arms, double wrap a chain around the post and lift it out. 3 point arms have a lot of power and they won't launch the post over your head like if you use your loader.
Hi Nathan, Ive hung quite a fair few ceilings by myself while renovating houses, and tge best thing i ever did was to hire a drywall/panel lifter from my local big tool hire place. I dont know what you call them in the US, but it really made hanging ceilings so much easier.
Now you need a kilt made in the tartan Elliott. It's blue with narrow black stripes and very narrow red stripes.
Nathan, when you’re installing your sheet metal ceiling, it might help if you tacked a 1x2 or 1x4 to the wall to serve as a temporary ledge to help support the end of the metal panels while you secure the other end of the panels to your 2x4 / 2x6 ceiling supports.

Hey Nathan love the look of the tin on the ceiling excellent find there my friend, there’s only one problem without a vapour barrier as soon as you put the tiniest amount of heat in there it’s going to condensate and your insulation’s going to be shocking wet and that condensation will find every hole and joint and it will be raining inside your shop. I know you live in a humid climate which will make your problem worse, also make sure above the walls between the trusses is well sealed of well or the cold will run between the tin and insulation again making issue worse. This isn’t criticism Nathan I love your channel brother, I’ve been in construction for 30 plus yrs from residential to commercial and built ton of post and beam heated shops here in our cold Canadian client, again just friendly advice

I hope you're planning on painting that ceiling with some Rustoleum white to brighten up the room. If you ever want to put a finish on any wood project, I'm thinking falling rust from the ceiling would mar your finish. Better to have a coat (or two) of paint over all that 5-V galvanized roofing.
Don't you have a Baker Scaffold to help you with the overhead stuff? If not, check your Home Depot and see if they still have some on Black Friday sale for $159.

Despite the glitches, you sure look like you've done all that before!---(I took my 14 y /o Granddaughter's title to my framer...pricey to have custom work, but Her Ladyship for Christmas deserves a worthy presentation! I hope she feels the love!)

Safety glasses are cheap, forget your fancy tools- without your eyes you can't work.
A tip when working with fiberglass insulation materials. Wear a mask. The fibers get in your lungs as well as on your skin, causing you to cough and scratch. Believe me. I have insulated 1000's of m². the worst time to do insulation work is in the summer. You are sweaty and the fibers stick to your skin. But most important. WEAR A MASK.

Please don't put insulation on top of the tin roof unless YOU have lots of venting up their. Several ppl I know did this and the results was wet insulation due to condensation..in fact after warning a you tuber on here about that when they were building their cabin, they didn't listen and had major problems
