For some dogs, elevation can make dogs feel like they are on top of the world, more confident, more in charge.
But we have to put it into the correct context.
If your dog is nothing but a couch potato and has zero behavioral issues, elevation doesn’t mean that much.
But if you have a dog with unwanted behaviors and they like to get on top of the couch, it can actually reinforce those unwanted behaviors because they feel powerful up there.
The back of the couch can also be a place where dogs hunt from. Yes I said hunt!
Dogs that spend hours on the back of the couch staring at birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and other animals usually don’t have an outlet for that energy.

It sure does, and your dog is getting better at hunting so when it comes time for a walk your dog will be ready to hunt even more.
And yours dog is getting better at feeling in charge.
If you are experiencing behavioral issues and your dog is constantly elevated on furniture , you might want to consider addressing this behavior by removing them every time they get up there.
