The question of whether there is life beyond Earth is one of humanity’s most profound and tantalizing inquiries, and it intersects closely with the question of what lies beyond the observable universe. While we’ve made incredible strides in exploring the universe and understanding the conditions necessary for life, our knowledge is still limited. The observable universe represents the part of the cosmos that we can see, study, and understand based on the light and signals that have had time to reach us since the Big Bang. Beyond that, the vastness of space remains largely unknown.
The observable universe, with a diameter of around 93 billion light-years, encompasses galaxies, stars, planets, and other cosmic structures that we can detect through telescopes and other instruments. But what lies beyond this observable boundary? The short answer is that we don't know. There are several theories, but no definitive answers. One idea is that the universe extends infinitely, meaning there are regions of space that are simply too far away for us to ever observe, even with the most advanced technology. These areas could contain galaxies and potentially habitable planets, some of which could harbor life. However, the very nature of the universe's expansion-especially with the accelerating rate at which it is expanding-suggests that these regions may forever remain beyond our reach.
Another possibility is that beyond the observable universe, there may be other "bubble universes" within a larger multiverse. This theory arises from certain interpretations of quantum mechanics and cosmology, such as the idea of cosmic inflation, which suggests that our universe is just one of many in a potentially infinite multiverse. In such a scenario, there could be other universes with different physical laws and conditions, potentially including the right ones for life to exist. But since these universes would be disconnected from ours, they would remain inaccessible, and there is currently no evidence to confirm their existence.
As for the possibility of life beyond Earth, this remains one of the greatest scientific questions. While we have yet to discover definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life, the vastness of the universe-coupled with the discovery of exoplanets in the habitable zone (the region around a star where conditions might support liquid water)-suggests that life could exist elsewhere. However, whether life exists beyond our observable universe is an entirely different and more speculative question. Could life exist in regions of the universe that are beyond our observational capacity? It’s a thought-provoking possibility that pushes the boundaries of both science and philosophy.
In the grand scheme of things, the search for life beyond Earth and an understanding of what exists beyond the observable universe are deeply connected. As we continue to explore our universe, advancements in technology may eventually help us glimpse beyond the observable edge. Until then, these questions remain at the frontier of human curiosity-an ever-expanding challenge that compels us to think beyond the stars and wonder what lies in the vast unknown.

Mathematically, it would be a complete anomaly if life existed only on Earth. With countless planets in the universe, at least some must share nearly identical conditions to ours. Repetition is a fundamental principle of mathematics.

What about the building blocks of life that were just found on the asteroid Bennu that was recently announced? The sample (about 121.6 grams) was brought back to Earth from NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission in a protective capsule so it was likely not contaminated by anything from Earth. My understanding is that the analysis seems to suggest that life on Earth itself may have been seeded from ancient space debris.

@ Prove that life is chemistry? Well, given that all living things at least appear to abide by all known laws of physics (and thus, chemistry), there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe that 'life' is something particularly special. Living things are made of molecules/atoms/quarks - they behave EXACTLY as we expect them to. There's not much to prove really.

Pure argle-bargle posted by someone with zero scientific background.
In the short term (next 20-50 years, depending on govt priorities), it is absolutely within the technological grasp of humanity to reach potential sources of life in our own solar system, including Europa, Enceladus, and Titan.
And should the Breakthrough Starshot program, which intends to send light-propelled nanocrafts to the Alpha Centauri system discover biochemical signatures of life within the next 50 years, it should be possible to develop propulsion systems thereafter to send craft there as well.
