This could easily become a 50- part series… and should be pretty easy to crank out videos! I know I’m not the only one that likes show n’ tell.

Great stuff again. The story about Juan Gonzalez really got to me. It broughr back a childhood memory.. I'm a lifelong Giants fan (and yes, I cried Thursday night when Wilmer did not swing) but next to Will Clark, my favorite player was Dale Murphy. We older guys remember he was a perennial MVP candidate throughout the 80s. I really wanted his 1977 Topps rookie card for my birthday. Back then my LCS had 2 of them...1 for $60, the other was $75. My dad was in grad school at Stanford at the time so we had very little money. My birthday came and mom had done the small thing in big box trick and what looked like my dirty old Nike basketball shoes was actually my Dale Murphy RC. I then found out my sister and grandparents all chipped in and got it for me. Best present ever! Sorry for the long story everyone...I just wanted to tell it. Chris' videos always inspire me to tell card stories...

Loved every one of these stories Chris. A few got to me emotionally. Especially the Juan Gonzalez one. When I was a kid, I would mow lawns to buy cards. My first pack I remember was an 87 Topps Baseball pack. A few years after that I managed to buy a 1989 Upper Deck Griffey Jr rookie which I still own to this day. I have tons of cards since then but none give me the joy that those first early days of collecting did. My parents couldn't afford much either but they did gift me cards whenever they could afford to. I would've submitted my collection to you for the video but most of it is in climate controlled storage. Thank you for these great stories and hope we can make this a monthly event. I've been a collector since 1987. I keep most everything I buy. I've bought HOFERS, rookies, sets, and sealed wax. Love your content as always!

Aloha Chris, thank you for this video, I can’t wait till part two comes out. I had tears in my eyes and was touched by all of the stories with the collections. I can relate to a few of the stories being a Japanese American who has collected cards, off and on for fifty years. I have owned most of the big cards from the 70’s on, being a set collector, but as life goes had to sell off chunks when I became a dad and when my children had a little trouble. It is really great to see the love of the cards, collector first in that order. I am so impressed by the high rollers and the amount cards sell for, but I am moved to hear about the love and stories of collecting. All the best. Ken

And various others I went after like Cal Ripken, and Chipper Jones. And Di-cut inserts among many very attractive insert series. One of my favorites is the 94 Triple Play Nicknames set. Includes McGwire and Ripken. Some of those sets shared in this video are impressive and really cool. Ending with with Clementes etc. I love the guys set with the autograph ball and card of every #1 pick. And the 84 Topps autograph set. That is impressive, over 700 cards.

Thank you Chris and everyone for sharing your stories!!
I didn't share mine because it isn't all that unique (I imagine many who collect have similar stories).
My dad got me into collecting as a kid. Back when I was born through age 2, my dad bought packs of Topps football to set aside for me. He made a concerted effort to put together the 1986 set but fell a few base cards short. When I took up a real interest in 1989/90 in both football and cards, he would buy me packs of 1989 and 1990 Score and Topps.
Like many, I got out of collecting for a number of years, but when my wife became pregnant with our first son, I decided I would do the same as my dad and I put together the 2017 Score, Donruss and Optic football sets, as well as the 2018 Topps baseball set to put aside for my son. The bug bit me and while I continue to purchase Topps factory sets and the Donruss football set each year, I've really enjoyed putting together a massive Patrick Mahomes and Luke Kuechly PC, while also building on my collection from the 90s (despite my mom selling my 2 binders of Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, and Derrick Thomas cards...she says she gave them to me, but they definitely were not in the tubs, lol). I've also completed that 1986 and 1984 partial sets my father handed down to me, and purchased the football sets from 1989 and 1990.
My current odd-ish ball goal is to put together the 2019 30th Anniversary Score buybacks of the 1989 set, to mash up my first collecting experiences with some of the collecting that got me back into cards. I have about 30% of the 440 card set so far, but the set has been proving harder to collect than I anticipated as I didn't start until last fall, long after people stopped buying and selling many of these on ebay, plus the fact that they were only one per box meaning that some of the prices are a little inflated for commons. (so if anyone has any 1989 30th Anniversary buybacks...let me know, lol).

Man, I appreciate and understand the contributors that had comprehensive Japanese players and Orange refractor collections. I have at least one card for every member of the baseball, football, and basketball HOF. Yes, I cheated - for football, I would buy the Enor HOF set, and many of my cards are reprints. I even got to the point that if I could not find an existing card, I would actual make one. The collection could always be upgraded with rookies or better cards, but I am contented to leave the journey where it is at. At least for now.

Chris, I would be interested in reports about some of the great card finds in history. Especially Alan Rosen bought (I think) over 7,000 1952 Topps which had dozens of all players, including Mantle. I understand that most of the super high grade Mantles came from this find. It was in the late 80s in Massachusetts.

I will miss Ray also. I have been buying up his 1975 Topps in his A's uniform to give away on opening day.
