My mother was in Bountiful Utah playing her cello at viewmont high. She left the building to go home and her bug wouldnt start. She didnt know what to do, there was 1 tan colored bug in the parking lot and 2 other cars. Ted bundy approached her with a cast on his arm and asked if she needed a ride home. just then 2 boys and a girl came out of the auditorium and walked over to my mom, my mother knew the girl, as they approached Ted said "well see ya" and walked back to his bug.One of the boys was a mechanic and looked at her engine and found that the spark plug cables had been removed. he said to my mom "I hate to say this but someone has sabotaged your car, i've fixed it, try to start it" it fired right up. My Grandpa (moms dad) wouldnt let her drive to Viewmont anymore and instead he would drop her off and pick her up. Less than 2 weeks later Debbi went missing.

Yes. I think that was her only child and the coroner's office lost her body. That mother was destroyed. I think I read that in "The Stranger Beside me" many years ago. Sorry if the creator reads this but I can't watch the rest of the video after reading some comments. Monsters are real. Makes me wish for Old Testament judgement.

One case stands out to me: Georgeanne Hawkins. Bundy talked so casually about kidnapping and killing her and cutting her head off, how horrific. He tortured her for hours in the dark and then discarded her like garbage. This monster should have been caught so much sooner! Can anyone recall Ted's comment: "There is no way that killing me will bring all those people back"
How ##% self-serving and evil does THAT sound???

Girls and women are not human in this animals mind, probably the same with men too but to a lesser degree. I was not surprised when it said that. All it cared about was how people could serve it and fit its needs, they are objects in its mind. It had a black soul, which thrived on death, not life. The creative source of life was gone I’d say.

I love that almost the entire sorority killing portion of the story was about the girls. Ted's name wasn't mentioned for the longest time and it was all about what they and the community went thru. This documentary did a very good job of balancing talking about Ted but also lingering heavily on the women and girls that died.

I read a book about his last victim, little Kimberly Leach and it was so, so sickening. A fireman had seen Bundy taking Kimberly from the school grounds, and then putting her in a van and driving off. He said she was crying and looked hestitant to go. He didn't interfere, because he thought it was a dad picking up his daughter from school after getting in trouble. Another lady later on was behind the van and saw Bundy screaming at someone who was on down on the floorboard. She didn't interfere either, because she didn't know he had a kidnapped child in the van. She just saw a man screaming at someone who was sitting on the floor of the van. I cannot imagine the horror that child went through at the hands of that mutant. He was a frightening looking individual with close-set dead eyes, bushy hair and a huge head. How those groupies could've liked him is beyond understanding. He was a violent pedophile who enjoyed making females suffer. Awful!!

(That is also another case with more twists and turns and very different and worthwhile watch)
Dr Lewis sadly believes anyone who says they have multiple personalities.
I will say in Ted's case she was actually correct.

You're already aware of his deeds and believe he is evil, so you interpret or find things to confirm it, such as "cold eyes" or "he looked creepy in his baby/childhood pictures." Not saying there aren't people who would've picked up a vibe, but I'd bet my sack that a lot, maybe most of the people that say they would've noticed would have had a conversation or worked with Bundy or Dahmer and been none the wiser.

Only a world that massively undervalues women and girls could have failed to properly secure a prolific serial sex killer like Ted Bundy. That second and final prison escape was another totally outrageous security fail. It left two young women and a little girl brutally murdered, and three other women hospitalised, at a time the maniac had been identified as such, caught and incarcerated - and should have been under 24-7 surveillance, after his previous break.
I don't agree with the death penalty, but for Bundy it was absolutely the right solution. Firstly there was no question about his guilt, and second he would have continued to try and break out to kill again - and may well, yet again, have succeeded.
But even if he'd been properly secured, thank God Bundy didn't live through the internet age from the 'nineties onward, when the flourishing true crime genre would have made him a superstar. He would have loved his fame and the fan mail he'd have inevitably received behind bars. He would also have got a ton of interview requests, not only from the mass media but also from the new breed of true crime UA-cam channels and podcasts.
For the sake of justice and the victims, I'm glad the narcissistic creep never got his ego fed like that, but instead was euthanized like the dangerous dog he was.

Judge Cowart was brilliant in the way he handled this trial. It seemed at times that he was actually on Bundy's side and was giving him preferential treatment when all along he was handing this dope all the rope he needed to hang himself. He coerced Bundy into wrecking his defense by massaging his ego and encouraging him to do the stupid things that he did like that disastrous cross examination of the crime scene witness. Cowart encouraged Bundy to walk to the electric chair and sit down on his own. The Judge deserves a lot of credit for Bundy being dead.

@@TwilightxKnight13 I've only seen snippets but it seems the judge was indeed at least formally/nominally responsible for letting the trial devolve into what contemporary observers have described as a "circus" with Bundy throwing tantrums, relishing the accounts of the crimes he was being accused of, acting out his (other) fantasies of power and grandeur as a defense attorney and going as far as to use the court room as a setting for a wedding proposal. In hindsight it's hard to say if this was strategy or incompetence on the judge's part, but either seems wrong, because it's not a judge's role to get the defendant convicted. Everyone remembers the perpetrator ( not just in this case) but the victims fade into non existence to all but those who knew and loved them. I think this is so wrong. I’ve made the effort to learn as much as I can about the victims. I listen to their families and especially their mothers. As a mother myself it breaks my heart. I do feel sad for Bundy’s mother as she seemed like a lovely woman who did her best. I also come from a single mum and I know how hard that job is. I saw part of an interview with his mom recently and it was heartbreaking because even though he was in jail and convicted of at least some of his crimes she still wanted to hold on to her love for him and believe he was innocent and it was all just a mistake. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to be a single unwed mother in those times but she did the best she could and he was still a monster. His brother, who sounds exactly like him, has also had a very hard time and suffered because of what Ted did. It’s so sad that they were treated so badly because of something they had no knowledge of or control over. I always, well almost always, feel bad for the perpetrator’s families. They are usually victims also but not a lot of people see them that way.

If all those girls that thought he was so cute and innocent got to see what that main investigator from the FSU murders saw when he told Bundy they found 12 yr old Kimberly Leeches body they would have changed their tune real quick. The guy said when he told Ted about the body being found that he transformed into that monster right front of his eyes physically changing said his whole facial features changed, his eyes turned black, his muscles morphed and were like pulsing, he started sweating profusely and stinking of body odor and went off screaming and yelling like a maniac because he knew he was fked. Said it terrified him more than anything in his whole life before or since to see him actually physically turn into that monster that very few people that lived to tell about it got to see. It freaked me out just the way he's said it. He said he thinks that was his only victim that even disgusted himself that as reverse and sick as he was he knew that one went too far, and it was ironic it was his last victim. He said Ted acted like there no way he could have done that to that kid oh not me not Ted, don't you dare accuse me of that. And right before he was executed he confessed to it. Most people who knew him and his cases think he had upwards of 100 victims and started killing long before 1974. I think everybody at some time in their lives should take a minute to give a prayer to those girls who's bodies were never found and that are still laying out there somewhere cold and alone to this day.

In 1994, a week or two before I turned 15, a guy tried to get me to go in his car. My older brother had started working at a store in a brand new shopping center. The store he worked at was the only building completed, so it was pretty deserted in the early evening when my family visited. I was standing outside waiting for the rest of my family to come out when this guy with aviator sunglasses pulled up in a gold Trans Am. He had this whole 70s look about him. I was quite a few feet away from him, kinda of in front of his car standing on the curb. He asked for directions to the interstate. We didn’t even live near the area, so I just told him I didn’t know. He was just so insistent right off the bat. He went from asking directions to immediately telling me I needed to get in his car and show him the way. That’s what I remember most, he just repeated that over and over. He was getting more and more furious and yelling at me to get in the car and banging his fists on the steering wheel. He was really starting to make a scene. I didn’t think I had time to run back to the store entrance because he was closer to it than me and I think the store exit was one of those where you would have to wait for someone to come out first. Luckily, this older couple taking an evening walk through the shopping center showed up right then and he finally took off. They were so nice and made sure I was OK.
This happened the same year I bought Ann Rule’s book, but I hadn’t read it yet. I’m 42 now and I just bought pepper spray for the first time a few years ago. Even being 5’11” I though it would be good to have.

Smother departed shortly before last Christmas, mission accomplished: i.e. brother never graduated from emotional kindergarten. She was good for a £50 cash gift at Christmas so even there she managed to begrudge me right to the end.
Father was no better: i.e. similarly emotionally stunted oldest sister. Although she at least took a proactive role in her own development and didn't end up (as yet) a feeble 250lb incontinent diabetic.
Yet she was still widdling the bed well into her teens and on one occasion tried to frame your hero for her filthy abomination by switching sheets before Smother did the laundry round. Smother's wrongteous indignation was brought down to earth upon rare instance of inspection beyond the veneer. The mattress, my dear Watson.
Sis figuratively reprised the same party trick well into middle age by accounting for the wreck of father's lent car as vigorous opening of the passenger door by your faithful correspondent. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she crashed the car on purpose to distract from ruined upholstery.

The reason why Carol DeRonch got away is because she fought him. Ted said she was the only one who did. He’d marvel why, when he’d tell them if they cooperated he’d let them go, why the girls believed that.
What a twisted sadistic thing to do.
If anyone ever finds themselves in a situation of an attack, FIGHT. Do NOT go willingly, DO NOT go to the next location, that’s when they’ll do their worst.
Bundy is far from the last one to do this. It happens every day somewhere in the US, someone is attacked. That includes boys.
Educate kids YOUNG. Take kids to self defense classes. The best way to stay protected is through education and FIGHTING.
I know from personal experience. At 14yrs old I was attacked by a complete stranger. In broad daylight. In the nice suburbs. He almost raped and killed me. Almost, because I FOUGHT. I got away severely beaten, but I’m happy to say he wasn’t expecting the fist fight and hard time I gave him. He under estimated the little girl, 5”1, and 105lb. He was never caught. That’s haunted me all these years later. This was in 1977, the years Bundy was around.
I knew he’d never stop. I’ve wondered for years how many girls he ruined before he was stopped.
Take your kids and grandkids to self defense classes. Prepare your loved ones to be alert just in case.
RIP all the girls Bundy ruined. I hope Bundy is in hell.

Stop blaming women for the actions of a murderer. You know a number of his victims were abducted/killed in their sleep, right? You know that he abducted at least two victims in broad daylight on the same day, in front of other people, right? How does your useless "advice" help women? It is not women's responsibility not to be victimized, understand? The onus lies squarely on the perps. BTW, if women want to be safe, they need to refuse to date, live with, or marry men. It is those "good" men who pose the greatest risk to women's lives and safety, not strangers. Too bad what happened to you, but don't assume the situation is the same with the great majority of women.

Once he was in college and all that he tracked her down just so he could hurt her back. When she called him to find out wtf happened and why he’d just sort of disappeared on her he acted like he didn’t know who she was or what she was talking about. So Petty!

Ann Rule, a very good writer, wrote a book called "The Stranger Beside Me" which was also made into a movie of the same title. Before Ted Bundy went on his killing spree he and Ann worked
together on a crisis line helping anyone who was struggling. They got along fine and it was difficult for Ann to come to terms with what Ted was accused of doing. Don't get me wrong, she was
a very intelligent woman. Once she attended one of his court hearings, she realized he was indeed guilty of killing many young woman. I'd say Ann Rule is one of the best, if not the best, sources if you have any interest in learning about Ted Bundy.

When I am researching a case like this I’m usually looking at the perpetrator, their history and background mostly, and trying to understand something that is incomprehensible. The perpetrator becomes almost just a case study, it’s the only way I can remove myself from it if that makes any sense? Focusing on the victims and hearing from the families makes it all real again. i lived in Renton Wa. and was going thru a divorce. I called Seattle Crisis Clinic at times and spoke to a nice man several times. i had no car but needed to work three jobs to purchase one, so i was hitch- hiking, with my long dark hair, miniskirt, and a nice looking man stopped and asked if i needed a ride. He had opened the VWs passenger door and my hands were on the car door and roof, when i realized the door handle was gone!! If i got in, i wasnt getting out so i declined a ride from Ted!!

He asked her out, but she had other plans. I'm so glad she didn't date him, as she could have ended up dead, like so many other women did at the hands of Bundy.

I remember being a kid, and a car had pulled up infront of our house, the gentlemen in the car, ask me did I want some candy, being a kids I said yes, and walk towards the car. Unbeknown to be my mother had came out the house door, before I could reached the sidewalk I got smack upside the head. I spun around and looked at her, she stated 'get your arse in the house, you don't talk to strangers'. Fast-forward 20+ years my children and their friend and I were walking home. They were about 3 houses ahead of me in distance. A van passed me and stopped near them, the kids were approaching the van. I ran towards them, no smacking, but got in the middle of them and the van. I was sithing. Profanity came out first. The driver and old man, stated he was just asking for direction. My reply 'No MF, you aint asking kids for direction, when you just passed up a whole adult, me'. If he'd had a gun, it would have been a clear shot. But he was going to have to un-alive me for mine. The van sped a way. My kids looked puzzled, and embarrassed. I explain to them my reaction. I didn't have a cellphone at the time, but when I got home I called the police. I remember all the FKs of the past, Bundy, Rameriz, Hillside, and others. I couldn't let that happen to my kids. Talk to you kids people..

Scared me to death, when my car broke down & I started walking to my kids daycare, an off duty cop gave me a ride but I checked his inside door handles & ID before I got in. He said “you’re a smart lady”, truthfully I was terrified. I feel so sorry for these young women & their families. Tragic.

One time I went off the road and into a field on a Texas back road. I took off my rings, watch, everything of any value. Locked my doors and pretended I was talking to someone. I waved pass anyone who came into the field and they left. Then a truck came and I saw it had writing on the side. I took a glance and saw it was the forest department's truck and so I did lower my window half way and told him to simply call 911 and rolled my window back u and waited for LE to arrive. So many things must have been wrong within that mother-son relationship itself, with him being told that his mother was his sister. I was watching Anne Rule's interview and she said Ted's maternal grandfather might actually have been his bio. father. So the mother being his sister might have been true.
Also, there's one type of criminals who hold their parents in an extremely high regard for no apparent reason, even though they may have been neglected / abused. And then there's another type where the criminals acknowledge the abuse to themselves and eventually kill the parent sometimes.
Ted fell in first category. Everything in his life was an extension of his self image, and wanted that to be absolutely spotless.

Any TV show that is in parts should tell you at what time stamp you can fast forward or go away and come back to avoid the countless recaps. People are watching the show, they're invested and are probably paying attention to know what came moments ago. No one reasonably starts watching at part 4, expecting to get the gist of the 3 previous parts in a massive recap. I wish they would stop repeating info as if we're not paying attention. EVERY show on the planet does this, recapping even after a 2 minute ad break. I have spent so much time fast forwarding this trying to see the events in some sort of chronological logic. Probably 30+ minutes of this is recap. I am grateful the ads are cut though and I am glad to see such a complete documentary in one place so I am glad it's here.
