I'm hoping me and my daughter can cover this song personally I like white house road a little better this one has hammer ons that are cool and to sing it in that key requires a capo when I was younger I didn't think i needed one but for songs like Wonderwall and Landslide or even Brian Adam's run to you

Found out a month ago my old man had a tumor in his urinary tract. They scheduled surgery end of the month to remove it and had a follow up appointment yesterday to see how things were. Sister called me last night with vague info about bladder cancer and needing seven more surgeries and chemo over the next three years.
Life has given me gut punch after gut punch but I don’t know what I’ll do without my old man.
This line definitely brought tears to my eyes on my way to work.

Words can’t describe what this song means to me. My daddy worked in pike county in the mines, and he also hurt his back and had to quit working. He was a very wise and humble man, and always gave the same advice to me and my brother. He passed away January 1st of this year, and when I miss him I listen to this. Thank you so much for writing this, it’s as if me and my brother wrote this for our dad. Coal mining daddy’s are the best ❤️

This is what music should be all about... we're talking about a man , a young humble man, standing in a room singing about love, hardship , pain... a man sharing his experience to the world asking for nothing but recognition... there is no vanity present, there are no watches, cars, suits, jewelry or women... he doesn't focus on what he has , he's just grateful to have it, he focusses on the sacrifices it took to get to where he is and in allowing other people to find a connection ...

I remember the first time I came across this song, I was high as a kite on opiates, any kind I could get my hands on whether it was H or oxy or whatever. I heard this song and that line….”keep your nose on the grindstone and outta the pills”…..and I bawled. I wanted out of that addiction so bad but I was in so deep. Within a week of listening to that song every day….I checked myself into detox and rehab. It was the absolute worst two weeks of my life. I was at risk of having a stroke or a heart attack because it was so bad. Had to be medically supervised around the clock. BP of 180/130. I don’t know how I didn’t die. But I came out of that detox…..and I haven’t looked back since. I just got 2 years clean and sober this past July. And honestly…thank you Tyler. Thank you.

Im a native american/african american 21 year old man who was adopted by white parents and have been struggling with a substance addiction on and off for 4 years. I found this song a year ago, showed to me by a co worker who had been raised in a different way than I. I was raised with some country music, but I generally don't partake. Music does not discriminate between race, color, or creed. When a man or woman is singing from the soul, it resonates to those who seek the same truth: We are all humans, and humans make mistakes. But it takes true humility to accept that you have to take accountability for your actions, and the only way to have the strength to do that is asking God for help. And God is good, so any potential good you see in others is God working through them.

This is, uh, "Nose to the Grindstone"
    Hold on
Daddy worked like a mule minin' Pike County coal
'Til he fucked up his back and couldn't work anymore
He said one of these days you'll get out of these hills
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
See, the ways of this world will just bring you to tears
Keep the Lord in your heart, and you'll have nothin' to fear
Live the best that you can and don't lie and don't steal
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
Well Daddy, I've been tryin', I just can't catch a break
There's too much in this world that I can't seem to shake
But I remember your words, Lord, they bring me the chills
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
Keep in mind that a man's just as good as his word
It takes twice as long to build bridges you've burnt
And there's hurt you can 'cause time alone cannot heal
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
Well Daddy, I've been tryin', I just can't catch a break
There's too much in this world I can't seem to shake
But I remember your words, Lord, they bring me to chills

I had the good fortune to see Tyler play in Nottingham (England), we travelled about 150 miles or so from the North-East to see him. He’s a total original and so different from most modern country (or any other music for that matter). We even bumped into him outside the gig, a truly lovely man. Pure talent.

My dad didn’t fuck up his back in a coal mine but he did get addicted to opiate pills from a neck surgery, and that has fractured out relationship to this day.
