- As Democrats and Republicans in Washington continue to negotiate over an infrastructure bill, President Biden is reportedly considering dropping his demand to roll back the 2017 Trump tax cuts - which primarily benefited corporations and the richest people in the country - in order to gain support for infrastructure spending of at least $1 trillion. Biden is offering to keep Trump’s tax cuts and shrink the size of his infrastructure proposal in exchange for a minimum 15% corporate tax rate for all companies. Economist Jeffrey Sachs says a capitulation on the Trump tax cuts would be a huge mistake for the Biden administration. “The corporations have had an unbelievable run of unjust and unaffordable tax cuts,” he says.

Saying the US is for the billionaire is not something I think will hurt him. A lot of people often say the same thing. There are 614 billionaires in the US, and 8% of the US adult population are millionaires.

@@Waaben21 That's not capitalism (private ownership) what you're talking about is government regulation. All private banks are in fact by law agents of governemtn. Congress chooses the credit issuance regulations. Don't blame the banks for following the law. Change the law.
Corporate tax hurts the poor the most. Corporations are pieces of paper, they pass the cost of tax hikes not consumers by raising prices or cutting lower rank worker wages. It does nothing to lower executive salaries. I the aim is to reduce executive salaries and bonuses, the government has to introduce new laws governing fair share of profits to workers, say based on labour time. (Since one full time worker cannot possibly be working less than three times the hours of an executive, the worker should never receive a wage less than a third of the executive's wage).

We absolutely need to start supporting third parties. I suggest joining one of the third parties as they are at the forefront of transforming our democracy into one that can handle having more than just two corporate capitalist parties.

Back in 2000 I got bashed by my Democrat family and friends for voting Green .
I told them that if everybody was brave enough just take a step forward and vote third party we would be able to disable the two-headed beast but they always make the same excuses that my voting for The Green Party is why Al Gore lost .

Not as easy as that. Economic 101, multinational corporations have offshore operations to cut cost n make the goods cheaper. If not, how can they compete globally. Many goods are imported from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, etc. , etc are cheaper. They support American std of living. Without them, the cost of living is expensive n many Americans will live in poverty. So, do you want cheaper goods or high cost of living? And. with anti-China rhetoric, the US started a trade war imposing import tariffs. This resulted in more expensive cost of living n push down the US std of living. So, you cannot imposed high taxes on corporations bcos the taxes get passed to consumers indirectly thru import tariffs or production cost. Corporations cannot make goods in US bcos the labor cost is too high. That's why manufacturing jobs go off shores. US rising poverty traps US cost of living.

And the corporations will benefit the MOST from a rebuilt infrastructure, such as improved road and bridges, as well as rural internet.
That benefits the people working for the company, and benefits everyone using the infrastructure. Taxing corporations (which are just pieces of paper) hurts consumers the most. If the aim is to reduce executive salaries taxes will not do it, there must be explicit laws governing fair share of profits going to workers. If that were done paying corporations to build infrastructure will benefit workers and consumers and not disproportionately enrich the executives.
That's the part that I don't understand why they don't understand !? . They themselves will benefit from the utilities updates and upgrades !? Wired. It looks like they love their money more than life it self ! .

The reason that responses like Lupe's come up, is that the same argument become part of the 'Southern Strategy' for right wing politics, that demonized struggling demographics, and lionized the wealthy. What Sowell's arguments showcase, are the same arguments used today to claim that there is no systemic racist outcomes.. something that is still true today, and was certainly true at the time. Professor Sachs,, one of the few righteous and rational voices from within US. We could only have hope if we keep such voices coming and let such prudence and integrity be reflected in the management of our own country and our relationship with other countries who deserve as much dignity as we do here and our relationship with environment we all share together.
Unfortunately, such voices are often slighted and sidelined, or eventually censored by other forces in his own country which boasts itself as the doorkeeper of freedom and integrity.

I don't get that Jeffrey Sachs says, "I don't get it." He said himself that Biden has, in effect, shown that he represents the Plutocrats or Oligarchs just as the Republicans do. What is it that he says he doesn't get?
Corporations are becoming first class citizens. I'm worried real people will become second class citizens. Corporate interests are being better represented, and they have the privilege of just telling these politicians what they'll accept and want.

I have been begging Americans to vote third party for over 22 years now ... I keep telling them nothing will change as long as the two-headed Beast is running the show and the only way to kill it or at least to injure it is the third party preferably Green ... it's almost impossible to get through to people who keep adhering to the argument that it's a vote thrown away .
I try to explain to them it's fear that they're holding onto and that if they would all be brave enough to vote third party we could take the power from those who have been sticking it to us and slitting our throats and lying to our faces .
