You will realize when you listen to Evermore but folklore is late spring, summer because the sound feels day time, breezy and fresh and light compared to evermore, which is night time, dark, cold weather. Evermore is fall and winter
This album was (and is) such a moment in time. An absolute masterpiece. Aaron, Taylor and Jack are the trio we all never knew we needed until they appeared with stunning lyrics, music and production to blow us away.
This album made me a swiftie, I was so impressed by Taylor with this. The lyricism primarily, but also the production, the cohessive style, the vulnerability, the vocals, everything about this album was damn near flawless to me.
peace has grown on me the most in this album . I don’t feel like I fully appreciated upon first listen but now I really understand what the song is about it always gets me emotional 😭. i love it sm
hope you guys do a revisit for evermore but PLEASE listen to the bonus tracks 'cause they're ELITE (a crime that the lakes wasn't here but still loved the video 💕💕)
This album is 100% a summer album. It was released in the summer and mentions the summer in a lot of the songs. Like an end of summer/ early evening album I’d say.
I wish you’d react to the folklore long pond studio sessions. 🥺 taylor, jack and aaron explained the songs really well. plus, the live versions of the songs are all immaculate.
@@clairebersabal1964 Betty is written from the perspective of James, Betty's boyfriend who cheated on her over the summer. Cardigan is written from the perspective of Betty about James. And August is written from the perspective of the third person, the girl who James cheated on Betty with.
This Is Me Trying is such an under-rated song, it definitely is my favorite (along with Peace, The Lakes, & Cardigan). I absolutely love all the songs on Folklore & Evermore as well.
my tears ricochet is about scott borchetta, someone she felt very close too (like a father figure) but betrayed her just the same. "i can go anywhere i want... just not home" - she felt at home with him, comfortable but that suddenly is all flipped. you also mentioned that it's like 'the way you treated me doesn't reflect your grief', which is expressed in the "why are you at my wake". other lyrics that i think relate to this: "when you can't sleep at night, you'll hear my stolen lullabies" - maybe he's remorseful, guilty and can't sleep. she acknowledges this with basically an fu; idc that you can't sleep because my song have been stolen. (her singing this lyric also sounds like a yell)
“Stolen lullabies” is a reference to the masters of the 6 albums that Borchetta sold to Scooter Braun, and the chorus is made up of callbacks to each of the albums I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace - State of Grace from Red And you’re the hero flying around saving face - Superman from Speak Now And if I’m dead to you why are you at the wake? - Look What You Made Me Do from Reputation Cursing my name - The Way I Loved You from Fearless Wishing I stayed - All You Had To Do Was Stay from 1989 Look at how my tears ricochet - Teardrops On My Guitar from Debut
I remember listening to Betty for the first time on release day (before knowing about the love triangle) and my little bi heart was so excited. I love the love triangle and story, and in my head it will always be between three women 🏳️🌈
same!! on my first listen, it sounded very much like a closeted relationship in a small town in an earlier decade, and i love that interpretation so much
My tears richochet is about Scott Borchetta( Old label manager who she spent all those years with and that she considered to be like a fatherfigure to her) and not Scooter. She does not have a close relationship with Scooter at all, she never wanted him in her life. This song is way to sad and emotional to be about Scooter. It is about Scott. Mad woman is more about Scooter. Loved the reaction video though!
I feel like Mad Woman is more about Kim and Kanye: "And women like hunting witches, too Doing your dirtiest work for you It's obvious that wanting me dead Has really brought you two together"
Ugh, knowing you all are not a major Swiftie and doing this revisit and finally see the light of what this album is about and the big perspective how this album impacts in her entire discpography and career is so satisfying Thank you for reacting this.

Im so glad you guys liked mirrorball so much, it's one of my faves from the album for sure! This album was a masterpiece and part of the reason was because Taylor finally got the balls to sing about other stories, not just pull from herself and her past. However, mirrorball is the closest to her life experiences as we really get through most of the album, this was her thoughts as the pandemic was at it's height. "And they called off the circus, burned the disco down, when they sent home the horses and the rodeo clowns" is about the shut down we experienced at the beginning of 2020. It's also a song about her and where she goes from here, if it's truly the end of the world as we know it, what does all of Hollywood do? They're entertainers, that's how they feel alive and good and if they can't do that anymore, what does she do now? I love the song, it's so powerful to me. Ughhhhh, just wait till you get to epiphany, that one is about the pandemic too (in part) and it's so BEAUTIFUL!!!
Crazy I just found this video when I was literally listening to folklore 2 minutes ago. It was definitely one of my most played albums 2020/2021. The hidden gems on her albums are always the ones not released as singles.
It’s amazing how good slow songs can become once you really listen to the lyrics. That’s exactly what happened for me with Lorde’s Solar Power. I didn’t like it when it dropped, but after really listening in detail I’ve had it on repeat all summer.
you guys are one of my favorite channels to watch for music reactions. I love hearing another person's perspective on songs and even though we usually have the same interpretation I still love watching your videos. since you guys like storytelling so much I think that you would really like Alec Benjamin, not so much his newest album, but the two before that, Narrated For You and These Two Windows. he is fantastic at telling story's through his music, not a story that you hear every day though. his song, Must've Been The Wind is about the woman in the apartment above his and how he thinks that she is experiencing domestic violence but he doesn't have enough evidence to go to the police. so instead he goes to her door every once in a while just to make sure she's okay, and lets her know that if she ever needs to talk, he's there. it's a beautiful song and tells a story that should be told more.
cardigan is betty's perspective from the love triangle august is frim augustine's pov the girl that james had an affair with in summer and betty is james pov
Thanks for reacting to this, this was the first album I had ever listened to from Taylor. It was different, something I hadn’t heard from her ( I had heard the hits of course) and the songwriting was superior to anything out there. I really love listening to her explain her songwriting process and the songs. The Long Pond Studio Sessions do that. Some are better than others. Mirrorball and My Tears Ricochet and this is me trying are particularly well done and she goes into great detail about the inspiration for those two songs. And the teenage love triangle (Betty James Augustine, did you guys catch that?) , she talks about that and how those were written. Love the rx! Evermore is in the same forest but more experimental and extroverted. Has a bit more variety. IMO.
And yes, August really is that bi**h, Augustine and I would have been friends for sure, love her energy and hopefulness about life!! Loved Cardigan and Betty too so so so much but August just hits harder (and I've never even been in that situation, I just feel for her)
