The color tweaks are nice, but the much bigger thing for me was a way to set the parallax barrier offset to more precise values. I honestly thought "Super-Stable 3D" was anything but, but setting the offset to 4.5 (instead of either 4 or 5 in Nitendo's Settings menu) actually made it work flawlessly for me. No flicker or image overlap when shifting my 3DS around
Mine too, specially in DS mode. Along with TW-Patch filters, it makes DS games far less blurry and more lively! It still isn't even close to pixel perfect mode, but besides that, it's the best my DS games have looked in my 3DS.
@samuelperez6219 What I wonder if it's possible is a pixel perfect mode but for the xl version, so that the 3ds xl family can use the xl pixel perfect version of the DS xl family. But I guess not since to this day I haven't seen anything like that?
Just tried it on my old smoll 3DS with both TN screens and it's seems really to improve color accuracy. For examle - ground texture in the first level of Shovel Knight now looks more brown and... Less yellowish/greenish? In conclusion - colors became more like on calibrated IPS screens (really looks simmilar to my QHD 165hz Fast IPS PC Screen when comparing same pictures on 3DS and PC) so I'll keep it turned on always. Really great find!!
@@THEKAEZON65 yep. Effect will be the same, but without extra reddish color on other colors. Looks much clear for me. If you like more reddish color then use ips color fix. I'm using the rosalina version that comes with the extra "secret" brightness, same as when you plug on AC and you have a 1+ brightness level, that rosalina menu version makes it more brighter for people used to play on the switch oled and want the extra brightness, its not harmful since its the same brightness as the charger plugged, drains the battery a bit faster, and you can also make the filters to look more contrast (not ready to go like the video, but you can tweak on your own). Just reset when you turn off the 3ds or close the screen, so you need to go back to rosalina and reactivate the brightness and filter colors
I did this on my Japanese modded new 3DS, and it seems to have really helped the washed out colors on my top screen. I have duel TN panels so I knew it wouldn’t make a huge difference but it definitely looks better imo
I don’t recommend doing this, as it will just make things worse-developers targeted the EOTF (inverse of the display’s gamma transfer function basically) of the 3DS displays as-is, so games were developed with that in-mind, not some arbitrary new gamma curve even if it’s more correct for standard sRGB colorimetry.
I’m partially glad it was (other than special New models at the end of its lifetime) only the NewXL that had the ips lottery since if my New 3DS had one of each it would drive me crazy, you have one screen with better colour reproduction and angles and another with shorter response times and deeper blacks

Honesty, my brother has a dual-TN new 3DS XL and it doesn't look that bad looking at it head on, which is how it's used 99% of the time. It's the side angles that really get ya.
@@iamdriy yeah that’s true. Also the new Luma feature does work with the TN screens! Yippee! I don’t think it’s the best compared to the IPS ones but there is a noticeable difference.
On my own 3DS screen (dual TN), I noticed a significant improvement to the color display, but the orange tinting from manufacturing became significantly more noticable, and harder to remedy using Luma3ds' screen filter temperature adjustments. I wouldn't use it, but for anyone that doesn't mind the mild orange, I'd recommend it.
The black values are probably curved to be lower since you have in general extra range down there on an IP before it can starts to get crushed. With that said, maybe not the best thing to do use while you're outside now? I can imagine it being hard to see anything while the sun fights you.
I did not notice any more battery drainage than usual. As for whether or not it applies to all systems like NDS and GBA, I would have to do some testing but I think it doesn’t since the 3DS technically boots into a DS mode when playing DS games which is in a different isolated environment hence why you can’t access the Luma menu when playing DS games.
I have tried this and it works perfectly on my double IPS new 3DS XL, the colours are much better. Before the change they were more washed up than on my double TN New 3ds.
The dark demo makes me wonder if this is a gamma adjustment / fix more than a saturation curve. LUMA should just give you the ability to dial it in to your liking.

A quick glance at the Luma3DS source code, it seems that the color settings are essentially a LUT that is being applied to go from one color space to sRGB. This means that the color mapping probably takes on some polynomial form of a_n * x^n ... a_0 = newMappedPixelValue. Basically, that's just a long-winded way of saying that I don't think there is a way to quickly copy down the settings manually in the advanced mode.
