If you treat a trouble cat with respect, kindness, friendship and love continuously it will eventually open up to you. Usually a trouble cat has been through bad experiences with people (abuse, mishandling, disease, etc.) and needs your time and patience to gradually learn that you're a friend.

It sounds like the cat was too wound up which is what an abused cat in a loud shelter would do. The best thing to do would have been to put it in a small dark quiet place. I doubt Mingus actually tortured the cat, it just sounds funnier on a talk show on national TV if you say ‘broke him like a stallion’ ya weirdos

This says a lot about who we are, now. An interview, an opportunity to get to know someone, who they are, what they think, how they tick, and people just want to know about a video game, a virtual version of the person being interviewed.
I think Norman Reedus is great. He's down to earth in a Keanu Reeves way. Regardless of the phenomenal work he's done or how famous he, or his cat, are. Even in suit and tie he looks like he just rolled out of bed, and nails it!
To be fair, if anyone wanted to hear about someone's cat, they'd ask literally anyone in their family or circle of friends. We're here to get some insight on the work they do, and it just so happens that this interview was a week before the release of the biggest project Norman's been part of since The Walking Dead. So yeah, we wanted to hear about the game.
Also, it's 2019. Celebrities being down to earth isn't new or special anymore. Keanu's just famous for being a meme.

As a owner of 3 Black Cats it's awesome to know Norman Reedus went and adopted a Black cat for your son Mingus.
Because of all of those luck and religious misconceptions Black Cats are almost never adopted. Instead they are killed because people still live in the 1700's.
If anything they are they are the most Loyal and loving cats you'll ever come across. And they each treat thier Humans differently.
