I have had this pump for almost 2 weeks and I absolutely love mine! Control is excellent and hooks up to the app. Great flow in the tank and corals love it.
Nice review, gotta that power supply gives me pause though. Snap in connectors for a variety of plugs? The phrase "Jack of all trades master of none" comes to mind. My experience with DC pumps is that the power supplies are one of the more weaker points of failure, sometimes, Tunze pumps PSU is fine, Vortech pumps, I've had to change power supplies more times than I care to admit since it's inception.
Thanks for the review Marc. Can you do a side by side comparison to show how much the Nero 5 protrudes from the glass vs the ecotech...thinking of the Nero 5 and want to see if it's much less than the ecotech, since there's also a wire on the inside vs no wire for the ecotech. Would be very useful! Thanks.
I just ordered this pump a few days ago because I seen your vid! I get it tomorrow! I just hope the magnetic is strong enough with my 120g tank. I have been reading that the magnetic its not very strong for the one that's in the pump.
Afternoon, I have installed it. The magnetic is not as strong as I believe it should be. It holds just fine tho! It’s quite under 70% and has power! It blew my bubble coral off the sand bed. I hope it’s ok lol. The only con would be the adjustment range on the direction. I wish it had more range to point it up etc.
The wooden cleaning magnet is called an Algae Float magnet. I love those. Be sure you get the right one for the thickness of your tank, because if you oversize it, it'll be hard to move. They are very strong. The inside part, if/when it comes loose, floats to the surface.
Not sure about numbers that low. The app provides the ability to pick the perfect flow rate, and you can select different patterns throughout the day too.
No guard included, and I don't think it needs one. The intake is on the backside. But if you have anemones, you have to factor in that there is a risk if the animal decides to wander.
melevsreef Thanks. I have an icecap gyre at the moment and like the mesh that goes over it. My rbtas have not moved significantly, however. It’s a touhh choice since I like this product.
Measure the glass thickness to know what you are dealing with. I’d probably use four pumps for a 300g. Mp10 vortechs would be too small, that’s for sure.
@@melevsreef Can you recommend a GPH? I dont want it to be a hurracane in there but just enough flow to keep things going. 6 foot length, deep. So maybe one mp40 and one mp10 on each side, or of equalivent flow. Thanks for the responce! I keep a mixed reef. Or even two nero 5s on each side?
Nicolas Melia Forget Mp10. They are for small tanks, it definitely will not fit your 300g’s glass. The Nero pump holds on 1/2” glass or less. You need to measure the glass thickness of your tank.
melevsreef ok, it will just make the fit, so I went with two mp40s since it’s only a 6 feet, and since it’s deep I went with two korerlla v2 1200gph for the back wall. I think this will be enough flow and meet the min requirements (in addition to the returns flow) for a mixed reef, the rest just relies on placement of the coral. Thanks for convincing me not to get the mp10s.
Would have bought one too, but..... they are too costly for what they are. Let's see how these go after say 4 years! My ecotechs are 5 years plus and just motor along. They are expensive but proven, will be interested to see in coming years how these fair.
The Mp10wQD is $300, The Nero5 is $300. Pricewise they are equal, but the Nero moves more water. The Vortech has more modes to select from. I have Vortechs on all my tanks, and have had them ever since they came out. I love them, but I'm impressed by what the Nero5 is doing, and simple it was to install. It doesn't have a battery backup option though, which the Vortech does.
See this will not work for me. Cause my tank has bracing in the top of my tank and where i have my 2 lids. So, that being said. I cant run power lines in the tank.
Hi. I recently bought this pump and I hate it. I should have purchased something else. I've watched over a dozen videos on how to program this thing, including this one, and I cant figure it out. I can drop the programs onto the timeline, but cant figure out how to adjust the time. I see in your video the slider moving, but I'm not seeing how your moving the slider on the timeline. Nobody ever shows that part. Super frustrating. Are you using a smartphone and your fingers? Are you using a laptop and a mouse? Again, no video shows that step and that's the part I can not figure out. Any help is appreciated again, should have bought something else
Yes, I’m using my iPhone and finger tip. Touch the mode you want to edit on the left, and then you can drag the top bar down or the bottom bar up to set the duration. On the right you will see the times you’ve selected. To go to the next mode, tap the small arrows beneath the mode (left of the trashcan) to jump to that mode and edit it next. Be sure to hit done and save when you’ve finished programming. You need to be near the pump’s driver so it will save the settings via Bluetooth.
What is the thickness of your glass? And I know this seems insulting, but is there any chance the magnet was installed backwards? Finally, did you contact AI for help yet?
Yeah, that im not going to do... its like making nail holes on the wall. U will have all these holes or grooves into the tank. Then u will need to get a new one soon.... nope not going to do that. They need to come up with a way with the wire out side of tank. Then i will buy one.
Running two of these and seriously blown away! Literally 💨💨
The app is amazing, the flow is so precise and it just looks the part

Instablaster.
Great video Marc. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for your awesome review. I’m ordering two for my redsea reefer 450 deluxe
Nice product, smamm size, bigg flow ,good job ai 👍
Looks like a great little pump
A nice small but yet powerful pump. I like the programmability through AI. Wish it would work on a little thicker glass/acrylic though.
Feed mode is awesome if you have an automatic feeder.
Does it have a feed mode button on app as well?
So what size is your aquarium ? And your using one Nero 5 ?
It’s a 60g and yes, one is plenty.
Cool pump
I see good old British plug. Best in the world, if I say so myself. 😉

Okay, I'll have to set those up side by side and do some physical measurements for you. Good question.
@@melevsreef 👍Thanks Marc, look forward to it.

But if you look at vortex they have no range... and are priced more. I wonder what the longevity will be
Definitely will check the pump out. Bought my first AI Light, love it so far. Thanks for the info Marc! Also, what magnet is that, my tank needs that!

I'd like to see a comparison to a aqua mai. What I run in my 28g nano. Any advice on a lower flow for behind my rock work to stop my "dead zone"?
I haven't even seen an Aqua Mai pump.
It is small but not flat like the nero so it directs the flow more I guess. It's also more adjustable for the flow up to 3000gph
Hello, can I work with 5%? 8% and any speed?
Not sure about numbers that low. The app provides the ability to pick the perfect flow rate, and you can select different patterns throughout the day too.
No comments on noise level vis-a-vis the Vortech QD ?
Great app for sure!! The inside wire sure is discouraging for me.
Crazy Dre goes on better on a rimless tank
Does it come with a foam guard to protect things like anemones? Or would you even need one given the construction?
No guard included, and I don't think it needs one. The intake is on the backside. But if you have anemones, you have to factor in that there is a risk if the animal decides to wander.

What do you reocmmeed on a 300 deep? 3 of these or 3 mp10s? The glass is thick as all hell btw.

If I send you specs and a draw up of a custom sump can you build and ship to me?
Your tank is 3/8 on ends or all around?
That tank was made of 3/8" cast acrylic on all sides.
wow nero 5 for your sump nice

How quite is it compare to others
It’s very quiet. I’ve had this one for more than a year.
Do I need WiFi or can I sync the pump via Bluetooth??
It work’s by Bluetooth LE which stands for low energy, the Nero 5 pump does not use WiFi
looks really great........... but it still has a cord in the tank. All set with that
Yep
How would you rate the noise level?
Silent. I don't hear it at all.

I hope none! lol

The wire is very skinny, but I hear what you are saying. You would need a fine groove for it.

Where's the giveaway?
There wasn't one.
The app is wayyyyy better then ecotech. Hopefully ecotech is watching 🤣
They are also EcoTech ;) Same company

So you are running Vortechs like I do on my other tanks, right? :)
little steep in price as you can get a vortech mp40 qd for around same money" and that wire in tank is not best
The Mp40 is higher in price.
maybe in states mel" but I got mp40 for £300 and the nero 5 is £300 every shop iv looked also
Could be import fees, I don't know.
Frag tank looking awful mate. Diatom problems?
It needs some serious TLC. I focus on the tank tanks I care about, this one is more for testing stuff out more than anything.
