My only two complaints with the Nero. 1. Percentages don't multiply correctly: 1% setting on a Nero 3 is 667 gph, or 33% actual rated flow (out of 2000 gph) 2. The pump can't cycle between off and on for the wave cycle (similar to a jebao) As mentioned above, the absolute minimum gph is 667 gph, I still feel it's quite high for a more dynamic wave function.
I have been using 2 nero 5s on my 90 gallon mixed reef for 6 months now and they have been great. I am running them on random mode from 20% to 65%. I had them setup as a parent and child originally but found the child pump would drop signal and stop working form time to time and It always seamed that the parent was doing all the heavy lifting. I have changed them to just random on each and it really keeps things changing through out the day. Works well.
I’m in the gathering stage for my first reef/ marine tank ever. I had the bug for a few years & finally broke down & bought a WB cube 20 for my entry level newbie trial & error tank. This was on my list until I saw the vortex MP 10. Guess I’ll just wait an extra week or two & splurge for the mp 10.
Very impressive pumps and love the low profile it's to bad that the pump motor its inside the water, I'm tired of those electrical lines been inside the water taking the beauty out of my 220 gallon reef tank😭
Thank you for your video I just purchased my first Nero 5 I have a 65 gallon reef tank with some Duncan’s and Zia’s fish store told me I should have 2 Nero 5 does this sound correct thank you?
Those chops would make a boomerang jealous 😂 These are amazing little pumps, but the Nero 5 in tanks under 40g will need the guard or it will suction all small fish to the intake cage
The types of corals that you're keeping will dictate how much flow you need. For a Reefer 425, I would suggest starting with two of the Nero 5's. This will be enough flow for a mixed reef.
@@andreashennes7322 I’d go with 4 Nero 5 pumps & stagger them so you get a good linear flow pattern or you can try mounting them on the back of the tank pushing the flow outwards
The app is great, the only confusing part is when connecting the nero if you have an existing AI light. You have to choose “add new tank” for the nero in order to pair to the app. Unless they’ve changed it recently.
Thank you BRS team can you please confirm me how many I can buy for reefer 250 aquarium ? what is the best location to place those sides or on the sump back wall ?
Since the Reefer 250 is just about 3 feet long, you should be able to use just two Nero pumps in most cases. Placement will depend on your aquascape, but I like to place one on each end of the tank. One towards the back and the other towards the front to get the water rotating around the rock works.
The Nero 5 was right around the middle of the pack of the pumps we tested for velocity and flow pattern (how narrow vs wide). Check out this video where you can really see the Nero 5's flow pattern: ua-cam.com/video/CHLMNQPStB4/v-deo.html
@@BRStv cool i watched the video! so your opinion, if you were me and wanted a WIDE flow LOW velocity, would you chose the one from the list/video ya'll made? Would you have a personal preferrence based on your experience with all these pumps personally?
Can the outside magnet go in the water? I’ve got a AIO tank where I’m looking to put two Nero 3’s facing towards the front of the tank but obviously can’t do that with my current MP10 since the dry side is the mechanical portion.
I'd suggest going with the Nero 5 in that tank to give yourself some flexibility in the flow patterns that you can provide for the tank. That said, if this is more of a cube tank, then you could certainly get by with the Nero 3 since it wouldn't have to push water as far.
I bought the smaller one for my 55 gallon. And it was OK and I added live rock to replace the dead coral to give it a more natural look. So I ordered the Nero 5 to add more circulation and surface agitation .I think it is better to go with 3000 mph and just adjust the speed .What do you think before I return it ?
For a 55 gallon aquarium (assuming 4' long), the Nero 5 is going to be a better choice. This will give you better flow over the length of the tank and give you more flexibility with how you deliver flow within your aquarium.

That's a huge defect in design to have 1% = such a high flow. I was about to purchase until I learned this. Now I'm not so sure.
Really? I was about to purchase a pair hoping to have both of them set under 500gph for my small 20 gallon. 😮💨
These are really handy especially when you run multiple tanks. Water change is real easy with just a few taps on your phone.
Got a Nero 5 and a Nero 3...they’ve worked flawlessly.

Is this too powerful for a 13 gal evo?
Has someone made any changes to have more cable in nero 5? (Diy)? Cut and replace cable?

Most reefers with a 20 gallon would opt for the Nero 3

Noise level wise, it's one of the more quiet pumps available.

Yes, it cost 0.1$ in ai online store
