Docking and cropping serve a legitimate purpose. Their ears are NOT cut off, they are cut and made to stand erect. The docking and cropping were done in Dobermans because the Doberman is the only dog that was created from the ground up to be a personal protection dog. First of all, the original cropping of the ears was an extremely much shorter cut and was done so that the dogs long floppy ears could not be bitten by another animal easily or grabbed by a human to hold the dog back. The show ring is responsible for the long show cut we see in many dogs today. Also, docking of the tail was also done to make it so that a person could not grab the animal by the tail and control the animal. As a retired LEO, I have seen dogs grabbed by the long tail and thrown around and even dragged away from a scene because they could be controlled by grabbing their tail. If we docked that tails properly and returned to the original shorter ear cropping it would all be obvious to the casual onlooker. Ear cropping and tail docking are tools to actually help keep the dog safe and also assist in the work they were actually designed for. Too many dogs are now simply pets and too many people listen to the words of the uniformed. Dobermans are working dogs and were created for personal protection. Docking and cropping also happens to give the dog a certain "look" but that was not why these things were done. Look up Dobermans from years ago, especially the history of the Doberman Pinscher. You will see extremely shorter ears and you will also find a dog with much more drive and working ability than most dogs today.
@@BearBottoms Fighting dogs has nothing to do with his topic. It is a modern way to play on emotions and feelings. Dog fighting is wrong and most people know it. To try and throw it in with this topic is typical of how people operate today. Associate a known bad thing (dog fighting) with something else and add the stigma. Wrong!! One thing has nothing to do with the other. Docking and cropping serve legitimate purposes that are beneficial to a working dog in the long run. Humans have manipulated and created just about every breed in the world. What about spaying and neutering? Removing a dogs testicles is severe, yet people talk about it like it's no big deal. Cutting a dog open and performing unnecessary surgery on their internals is beyond invasive yet it is done regularly, Is that okay?
@@notsosilentmajority1 It is mutilation with no benefit. I said "we also fought dogs" as in past tense where society (humans) basically allowed it. The point you missed is you are trying to justify mutilation as humans did dog Fighting.
@@BearBottoms There is a benefit to the dog when the dog is doing what it was bred to do. I am not trying to justify anything. I am stating a fact as to why docking and cropping were done. Both procedures serve a very legitimate purpose for the dog and can actually protect those dogs while performing their duties.
Sometimes docking ears or tails are good for some dogs. It prevents whipping tails and causing them to bleed. And it stops ear infections (SOMETIMES). I think it’s fine if it’s for medical reasons and it’s done professionally
As long as they get taken to a professional I don’t see a problem. My Doberman looks so scary he deters problems before they even get started. That’s a good benefit to cropped ears.
In a Doberman tail docking and ear cropping are corrections from breeding. All dogs in nature have Erect ears, with the crop you can read the dogs intentions much better. A Doberman has a high set, thin, wispy tail that is prone to breaking, that's the reason for the tail docking
My Dobermans are cropped. They certainly express their emotions by moving their ears and tails. They have had zero ear infections and no health issues as a result. People should actually do a little research on the breed's history instead of letting their feelings do their thinking for them. Politicians should stay out of people's business.
Both straight and floppy ears look good to me, but I'd like more Dobermans to keep their original ears. I'd also like more Dobermans to keep their tails too
Mine is sitting beside me right now after having him as my best friend and secondary protector of our house, I choose not to crop his ears. They rarely get dirty and an intruder won’t be grabbing his ears while he’s biting their ass. He’s trained, smart and most of all loyal and loving, unless you mess with us. Happy 8 years thus far floppy eared Apollo!

Plus, if done correctly at the correct time the dog does not have any pain. I didn't have a choice when I was circumcised, do I remember the pain, NO. People in the long run this is better for these breeds they are not beeing hurt. Also if you see someone with a dog that is cropped and docked mind your own business usually they come frome the breeder that way.
There is enough scientifix studies implying dogs with cropped ears and tails suffer since they feel like they cant communicate their normal way. Stop justifying animal cruelty
Some dogs just flat out look better with cropped ears then without. The Doberman is definitely one of them. So does a Canis Panther which has Doberman in it!!!
People think it's bad cause they've never had a dobe I've met Dobies with ear hematomas from slapping they're large ears from an infection inside they're ear the floppy ear creates trapped moisture and the tails snap easily especially if they're working dogs.
I like the floppy ear too, my pit has floppy ears, I was under the impression that working DP had their ears cut and pets didn’t, some owners are multitasking.. unless the ears kept getting infected, I definitely would not spend the $ just for the look.
I'd put the money up for the look alone. I've never owned a DP but frankly without the cropped ears they look too similar to the black and tan coonhound. Plus I feel anyone thinking about breaking into my house or robbing me on a walk would think twice with the cropped look. The other look I might get lucky. I'd rather the dog defuse the situation well before it occurs rather than test it and find out my dog is a coward😂. If only it was so approachable. I go for bigger muscular dogs like the French Mastiff and you don't crop their ears but they're so big nobody is going to test you no matter how floppy their ears are. The only dog I want that is usually cropped is the Cane Corso but i don't think I'd want to crop its ears to standard, it's too short and looks like a wild animal ripped them off. Maybe if I hunted anything bigger than a boar I would.
The second dog was stunning. I think cropping is between you and your breeder but if it's gonna be cropped get a nice crop not some shitty ugly short crop.
Banned in Canada too , which is great, its so stupid , the wind alone will dump everything into their ears. What he said about the dog not being able to express itself is true , also with the docked tail. Same thing.
East are cropped, tails are docked, breeders are continuing the procedure where find in a vet who'll do it more and more rare. I found a vet who would conduct the procedure only if the ear cartilage sufficient for success. I would never do it again!!! However the tail docking is valuable I think!
I think it's fine as long as you leave enough of ear for ear positions and movements to be noticeable since it is a big part of communication. What i mean is ive seen dogs (mainly pits) with their ears so small you can barley see them or basically gone. That heavily affect ear based communication. As far as tail docking goes I think it's horrible mainly due to fact that tails are huge part of communication. Communication is very important. I've worked with dogs and there's been a few times where it was their ear and tail movements that alerted me something was wrong or was going to go wrong.
We do enough damage to dogs by breeding them to excess and showing with ridiculous extremes. Cropping and docking is going too far for “beauty” standards. Illegal here in Australia too.
NOT “Cut Off” but rather CROPPED. Prior to even watching I’ll answer this question. In 1890s Germany a tax collector and Dog catcher named Louis Von Dobermann (2 N’s) through selective breeding he ultimately created the Doberman (one N 🤷🏼). His aim was to create a breed that was highly loyal, intelligent, fearless, fast, strong and athletic. Basically a “Man-Stopper”. Two things that Mr.Dobermann could not alter through breeding alone was the big floppy ears and long, thin tail. Both things were very much an undesirable physical trait for a K9 specifically designed to fight off human attackers. The floppy ears and long, frail tail both provide something for a “bad guy” to grab a hold of and possibly subdue or cause an injury to the K9. Also the long, floppy ears cloud slightly hinder a guard dogs ability to hear as well as it could with upright ears. So the cropped ears and docked tails became the breed standard for this working dog.

We also fought dogs. None of this is okay for humans to do.
@@BearBottoms
Fighting dogs has nothing to do with his topic.
@@BearBottoms
There is a benefit to the dog when the dog is doing what it was bred to do. I am not trying to justify anything. I am stating a fact as to why docking and cropping were done. Both procedures serve a very legitimate purpose for the dog and can actually protect those dogs while performing their duties.
@Linda Torres
I have heard other people say the same thing. Thanks for the info. Best wishes. 👍
Form needs to follow function, If you got a dog for protection, tail docking and ear cropping make sense.
My dog is a mongrel and he has one ear up and the other is bent to the side. Thats the best of both worlds
I’ve always wondered this , good explanation .
Banned in most of Canada as well. Ears and tails.
Mine as well all three of my Dobermans ears our cropped, and their tails are docked it was done safely so no problem.
UPPA WALES
I wouldn’t cut the tail godamn
Having their ears and tails cropped makes them look more attentive and attractive an ancient practice going all the way back to Egyptian times.
Lets cut your Ears how about that?
Did the Dog ask for it no !!!!
I grow up with 2 Dobermans and we never do that and I hate People who do that I would slap 👋🏼 those people 🤬🤬🤬🤬
You should tell that to people who spay and neuter.
@@ratdraws9445 exactly 💯 we don't spay and neuter people even though we have overpopulation. Oh and when we need to they chemically not physically castrate pedophiles. Why? Oh because it's cruel
It's so unnecessary. They are perfect as they are.
Cutting off his waggly tail and cute floppy ears is disgusting.
These dogs need tail docking their large powerful tails get broken easily. Also, cropping ears while this is a preference helps eliminate ear infections for the dog.
Well in Swiss also Germany it is baned
Very beautiful dog😊❤
Lol ears cut off 🤣
I support tail/ ear docking.
If I wanted to have a look alike Black/Tan Coonhound, I would own a Coonhound.
I thought Doberman ears stood up on their own.. hmm.
Anyone notice the weird American flag in the B-roll with far too few stars? 🤔
Some dogs just flat out look better with cropped ears then without. The Doberman is definitely one of them. So does a Canis Panther which has Doberman in it!!!
If you neutered/spayed your dog you have no right of talking and/or feeling superior to people that do choose to crop. Get off your high horse ✌🏽
People think it's bad cause they've never had a dobe I've met Dobies with ear hematomas from slapping they're large ears from an infection inside they're ear the floppy ear creates trapped moisture and the tails snap easily especially if they're working dogs.
i think people like the ears that way because it makes them look fierce and since they were bred to be dogs for guarding they want them to look fierce
Once my dog can walk into the vet clinic and ask to have their ears and tail cropped themselves then I will be against it.
Animal cruelty 101
My baby girl is natural and she is just gorgeous
What wild dog has floppy ears?....... It's okay I'll wait.
Because the owners do it.....
Floppy ears and a tail in the UK illegal to do it unfortunately, otherwise I would. As long as it's professionally done have no problem with it.
BAN!
Banned in Canada too , which is great, its so stupid , the wind alone will dump everything into their ears. What he said about the dog not being able to express itself is true , also with the docked tail. Same thing.
IN UK there are breeders that crop them dobies ears
A vet has to do them
East are cropped, tails are docked, breeders are continuing the procedure where find in a vet who'll do it more and more rare. I found a vet who would conduct the procedure only if the ear cartilage sufficient for success. I would never do it again!!! However the tail docking is valuable I think!
It’s horrible what some people do to their dogs! They look amazing without being cut. Lucky in my country is also forbidden
Cropping is banned in nearly every country in Europe. Not only in the UK🤦
Keeping them is better simply because of the things stated at the end of this shirt. Dogs use their tails and ears to show their emotions.
is the puppy at the beginning dober or a hound? it looks like my slovakian hound
also i love the video after that
They look special with their ears cut off
Dogs with cropped ears can most certainly raise them and lay them down.. This guy said that they cannot lower their ear.... That is false
Should be banned
I think it's fine as long as you leave enough of ear for ear positions and movements to be noticeable since it is a big part of communication. What i mean is ive seen dogs (mainly pits) with their ears so small you can barley see them or basically gone. That heavily affect ear based communication. As far as tail docking goes I think it's horrible mainly due to fact that tails are huge part of communication. Communication is very important. I've worked with dogs and there's been a few times where it was their ear and tail movements that alerted me something was wrong or was going to go wrong.
What about happy tail syndrome?
We do enough damage to dogs by breeding them to excess and showing with ridiculous extremes. Cropping and docking is going too far for “beauty” standards.
Illegal here in Australia too.
It should be outlawed everywhere in the World
I do like it more with the ears cropped, but if I had a dobbie I wouldn't crop his ears
This is cruel,we ourselves cant tolerate a single cut on our skin and cutting body parts of helpless animals
Every hear of plastic surgery?
The floppy ears and long, frail tail both provide something for
a “bad guy” to grab a hold of and possibly subdue or cause an injury to the K9. Also the long, floppy ears cloud slightly hinder a guard dogs ability to hear as well as it could with upright ears.
So the cropped ears and docked tails became the breed standard for this working dog.
They should ban the plastic surgery too then
It was so there is nothing to grab onto..you cannot catch a Doberman in action..tight muscular skin..short hair..thats why
It's cruel and whomever does that to their dog, should have it done to THEM
Nah
@@Abc23867 yea
@@americanme3953 It's not cruel at all, they're under anesthesia so they don't feel anything.

Cutting the tail just makes the dog slower and less agile. Keep the tail it's there for speed and agility.
Cropping was originally made not just as cosmetics. Origin declares this is used to avoid their floppy ears from being ripped of when in a fight with other dogs or humans. Same purpose why they have their tails cut off. They are originally made to be guard dogs. And erected ears also strike fear to others at it looks intimidating.

Im not for or against cropping but a dog with cropped ears can still show feelings with their ears i mean its just like a german shepherd or a husky
I am a recent city mouse to country mouse convert,, my mother came to stay with me recently and brought her dobby puppy that had a bad ear snip. The country neighbor told me that when the ears are exposed like that it is more likely to get bugs/parasites in them.
