@@vikingrbeerdserkr8406 mkay. I'm keen to actually see her in game, I played as Kas in Odyssey but that's mostly because I thought her voice acting was better than Alexios'. Maybe it'll be different this game
@@JJaqn05 Yeah, I got ancestry going all over the British Isles thanks to my mother as well as France. Besides, I've always felt a bit of a connection to the vikings anyway.
@Zeros DaBast Peoples roots travel far and wide. Scandinavian people were traders who traveled far and wide during the Viking era, so it's not uncommon to have Scandinavian descendants across the entire world. Don't be so narrow minded.
Just so you guys know the helmet was based on the Sutten Hoo helmet found at Deben. Since England was a Roman province from imperial times until Byzantine times the helmet as well as armor is based on the military equipment of late Roman antiquity, which is really Byzantine(Eastern Roman empire), the western Roman empire collapsed in the 5th century A.D., and Julius Caesar had already been dead for almost five-hundred years. Britain didn't become a province until around 44 A.D. when Claudius was emperor and had conquered Britain, not sure if it was Aulus Platius or Petilius Cerialis who was responsible for conquering Britain, but Claudius ended up taking the title Britannicus because he conquered Britain.
I think the big guy was supposed to be wearing the roman armor because the saxons learned from reading scrolls and books from the Roman empire from my understanding they wanted to incorporate that.
Interesting little fact as u saw in the trailer the main character(Eivor) had his hidden blade on top of his wrist as apposed to under like previous games The canonical reason behind this is that he sees it as an awesome weapon and and doesn't want to hide it
I think the big guy dress like that was a brute Templar. The big ones that are usually hard to kill, also him being dress like that probably has some thing to do with the Templar order and their connection to the events before.
True! Norway is heavily dominated by mountainous regions, and farming lands largely fell along the coastlines. Because farmlands were scarce, you either had to be gifted land by ancestors or jarls, kill your neighbors and take theirs (not a good option), or go out to find somewhere new!
Neither of those things is true. The period known as the "Viking" period was a bit warmer. Most Scandinavian lands weren't frozen wastelands. Food was not scarce at all and neither was arable soil to farm on. People went raiding because they wanted to, either to have and experience an adventure, gain glory, or because they were simply greedy and wanted to take other people's stuff.
"Because they wanted to" is not a rationale that will hold up in the academic world 😁 Scandinavia was not a 'frozen wasteland' as you suggested, true, but there were many other reasons for raiding besides the antiquated and simplistic views of personal glory or bloodlust. Might I suggest "The Vikings: a History" by Robert Ferguson for some light reading on the subject?
I like how you guys are pretty spot on with the historical accuracy especially with the clothing and armor. One thing i will say though is the Roman inspire armor that one soldier wore at least the overall design and not the specific pieces of the suit is accurate enough. Cuz the romans ruled over britian until 410 CE but when they left its not like the native inhabitants all of sudden werent roman people anymore. Like the roman inspired governance and culture was around for a few centuries afterwards and even the ruling elites im pretty sure still spoke latin. All of that before England itself was actually unified into a single kingdom.
We get where you're coming from with the Roman influence! Other thing to keep in mind, however, is that between the Roman invasions and the Viking age we had the migration period during which Britain went through another cultural shift. The anglo-saxons, in large part, originated from northern Germanic/southern Scandinavian tribes (the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes) that invaded the island during that era and ultimately became Christianized. These were the more prominent soldiers and ruling classes, so the Roman influence was heavily diluted by the time the Great Heathen Army rolled into town. That said, we have looked a little more into this since filming the video and the helmet he is wearing seems to be a mash-up of a Vendel-period helmet and the Staffordshire Hoard helmet which are both roughly 7th century designs so in an odd way it does make sense. The rest of the armor and the 15th century sword he is carrying, not so much.
so 1 glad I discovered your channel I love history and Vikings and 2nd I am from Trinidad and Tobago which is in the west indies and there are a lot of people of Indian descent here I was wondering were there any historical artifacts or encounters of Indian or brown colored Vikings because I honestly feel like I relate so much to Vikings and what they stood for dangerous warriors who protected their people what every man should strive to be so if you would mind indulging my questions.
Welcome, we're glad you found your way here! As far as we know, there is no historical artifacts that have been found on that front. From what we know, the Vikings did a fair amount of traveling as far south as the Middle East and North Africa, and as far west as North America's east coast. There have been many Middle Eastern coins found in Norway from the Viking age, leading us to believe that there was steady trade between the regions. There was also North African piracy that was happening around the same time and the cultures were familiar with one another. In America, we believe they had some interactions with the Native Americans (as written down in the Vinland saga) but their settlements there were temporary and ultimately abandoned. From the regions that they can contact with, it wouldn't be outlandish to think that people from there traveled to Scandinavia and spent time there, but there isn't anything that would lead us to believe it was very common.
I was just at a Wawa getting me some burgers which are amazing by the way and saw a guy in what construction gear covered in paint and he had a sleeve on his left arm that had like an old school Navy octopus and stuff like a kraken I think it was really cool I didn't get a chance to talk to him about it though but it reminds me of your sleeve
Feel like the people criticising the historical accuracy have forgotten Assassin's Creed has never been completely accurate with it's Apples of Eden and diving into hay from tall heights. Ubisoft even advertised it as a "Viking Fantasy" yes they're going to be as historically accurate as they can but they're also going to take some liberties cause at the end of the day it's a video game and fur armor looks badass.
There is nothing wrong with discussing the inaccuracies. Since Vikings first came out, more and more people have wanted to learn about the Viking age. The trouble is that popular culture runs the risk of instilling some remarkably wrong impressions of what this culture was like, sometimes by pure accident. However, it shouldn't stop people from enjoying the game because it does look like it will be amazing and we're excited to get our hands on it 🙂

I don't have vídeo game nowadays so i Will follow u guys here i like the Channel and ALL about the vicking is so interesting to me, however i like so much your reaction
So a historian on other video of their reaction said that their Roman looking armor was beacuse it was sort of after the Roman time and still had some resemblance to Roman culture and it was like they needed armor but didn’t have it like that(I’m not giving exact info but basiclly that’s why big boi looked like that)
You have to also take into account the roughly 400 year window between the Roman occupation and the start of the Viking age during which England did not exactly exist in a bubble. In all, his armor appears to be a large mishmash of 400 years of various armor history complete with a futuristic 15th century sword. We still call it very much suspect. Maybe he's a time traveler 💁
In my opinion on leather armor is that like most weapons and armor it was past down from father to son or taken in battle just used till its destruction. Its easier to have armor adjusted for the next person that to pay for new. I hope we find out more in the upcoming years as this historical period gets more attention
The trouble is that until we find evidence of leather armor, we're forced to run under the assumption that it did not exist even if it makes a lot of sense for it to have been used. We, too, hope to find out more in the future! Cheers 🙂
The thing that bothers me the most about the cinematic trailer is the fact that most of the Vikings have their shields strapped to their arms, and not a single one of them is wearing a god damn helmet!
Niggalodeon lol okay kid. It’s called a plateau and graphical resolution has hit it. If you really think we are about to see the same leap as ps2 to ps3 or ps3 to ps4 your an idiot
the province of britain was occupied by romans and when they left the english continued using almost exactly the same armour with very few differences, thats why the armour looks roman. Its historically accurate. This is what i remember from someone explaining why they have roman armour, so take this with a grain of salt because it might not be entirely accurate
There is some truth there! However, you also have to take into account that the Roman occupation ended around the year 400. In the mid 5th century, England went through another shift when Northern Germanic Tribes invaded the country. These were the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes (the name Anglo-Saxons comes from the first 2 of these), and they brought their own cultures with them. There is a lot of debate over how much assimilation vs. invasion happened around that time, but ultimately they did convert to Christianity. The viking age didn't start until 793 so we are talking a roughly 400 year window between the Roman occupation and the Vikings arriving. A lot happens in that time 😉
Hahaha the math checks out! We couldn't not check this out of course 🤓 Hopefully we can get set up to do some game play on the channel in the near future so we can really dig into this one.

@@VikingsReact it's a Viking anime. Has characters like Leif Erikson, thorfinn, and ThorKrell. Has amazing fight scenes but also great characters and character development
I had a lot less of an issue with the Saxon Champions armor than with his sword. Two handed swords like that weren't invented for at least 3-4 hundred years after the point the game is set. Scale Mail armor, on the other hand is a thing that did exist at that time, and the helmet very much reminded me of the Sutton Hoo helmet, which I am sure was an inspiration. My quibble with the Saxon Champions armor is that his skirt was horribly designed, it's no wonder he got fatally stabbed in the thigh like that. He lost because of that; and also because he stupidly pulled the sword out, he should have left it in for the rest of the battle, then let a physician pull it out afterwards so he wouldn't bleed out before the battle ended. If his armor had a proper skirt, his thigh could never have been run through like that.
You need to watch the story trailer that just came out! It looks really good!

Mostly just figuring out the ins and outs with copyrights and the parts that were cut we didn't have much reaction to. We're changing this for our future reactions 🙂
If you haven't seen it yet Id love to see your reaction to the other badass Viking related game coming out Hellblade 2 senuas saga heilungs music is in it going to have some old Norse God's too. The first had fenrir but as the giant pig instead of thewolf but it's still amazing checkout a preview on the first game too if you haven't seen it it's called Hellblade senuas sacrifice and you play as a Nordic girl with mental issues that seeing the battles different than what's really there.
There's actually several voice actors in the game that are characters in The Last Kingdom as well. I think Magnus Brunn was a perfect choice. And I think it's obvious where they got some of the design inspiration. I think Eivor and his brother both have similarities to Ragnar from The Last Kingdom.
Yes, the actors they got for the game have been excellent choices. It's great to see them choose native speakers with the natural accents, it definitely makes the game more 'real'
It's already not accurate with those Norman shields which didn't come until about two hundred years later. The Anglo-Saxons look like Norman soldiers that just arrived from France.
came for the reaction, stayed for the leather discussion lol. One thing i was wondering though, since leather armor could have theoretically been common because leather itself was plentiful..... could leather armor have been seen as common warrior armor and since history doesn't remember the common soldier and they normally aren't buried like royalty it's just one of those things lost to history along with the common country folk warrior?
Welcome! Yes, speculatively speaking that could very well be the case. It's not out of the realm of possibility to think that they could have had it given that they had the materials and the ability to create it. We just can't historically cite any grave finds that would back up this theory or find many stories or accounts that talk about leather being used as armor. Perhaps we'll uncover something in the future 🙂
We don't know for certain. Leather was definitely used, and it's possible that it may have been used for armor, but there are no depictions of it and no remnants have been found in graves so if leather armor existed it's impossible for us to know what it looked like or how it functioned.
Great question! We did recognize him being there but didn't really talk about him so the whole point ended up being cut out in editing. Looking back, we would have a lot more to say about it, but in the moment of the initial reaction, our focus was elsewhere. Perhaps we'll include some commentary on Odin in our future videos.
The time periode, late 800 century that is in the game was 3 danish ship’s sales from Denmark to England. So start whit Norway is something I don’t like. Vikings is all Scandinavian and not just Norway. If they don’t get the history right I am out.!
i mean to tell the truth we will never know 100% what the vikings were like unless u lived in that time period yeah u can read scrolls, books, paintings & whatever but they actually could not be 100% accurate because u know some do take liberties with things at times because u know the victors write the history so yeah unless u lived in that time period u cant really state anything as 100% fact
The motto here is learn from the evidence but question everything 😉 a lot of what we do know comes from grave findings and the texts (the latter sometimes holding a healthy dose of inference or being proven surprisingly correct from other findings). An excavation on a newly found Viking ship has just started in Norway, which is really exciting and we're all hopeful that it will bring with it more knowledge into the age. We don't know everything, for sure, but we're working with what we do know and that knowledge base will hopefully keep expanding with new evidence and findings.
Well Vikings were barbarians, not godless, as they had their gods, Odin, Freya... but they were ruthless barbarians who raid and pillage. Go King Alfred Go! (Just joking)
i like the Trailer(i know its to 70-80% not historical correct.. but its a Game :D ) but what i Hate(and why i didnt play this games after the first one) Northman share the Arabic Tradition and Fightingstyle?... that dont work for me... sry... the Ideals ok, but not like this. i think Assasins are Arabic so plz let them in Arabic areas and let them Fight with his own Type of "War" against Tyrans. so that makes more sense, its cooler and it makes more fun... Assasins Creed makes everything wrong what a game can make Wrong :( (Assasins are so cool, i think its better to make a Game in Arabic areas with a Person that starts a War against a Tyran from the hidden and Fear and Terror... so a REAL Stealth game in the Darkage/Ancient Times... Missions in the Night or on a Basar with hundreds of Peoples or in Dark sideways)
The word 'assassin' I believe is Arabic, yes, but the concept of an assassin isn't necessarily limited to one culture. Secret killings of important figures have theoretically taken place for as long as we've had society so I don't think its such a problem to make the game set in Northern Europe. What IS interesting though, is that we know the Norse believed secret killings to be some of the most cowardly behavior to perform, and there was a great taboo in keeping a killing hidden or secret, and punishment would be far greater. I'm very curious to see if this game addresses that 😁

@@forwardghost_ I suggest, watch the trailer then talk.
10 minutes fair use. You can show up to 10 minutes before you get a strike.
You should do the new story trailer that just dropped
Unfortunate cut in the middle of the action scene
Actual Vikings like it..Odin and Frigg are with us!!
You need to watch the story trailer that just came out! It looks really good!
i writed comment but i don't see weird i wanted say when this movie trailer looks so silly and when they talked the cut jump while they talked was so funny i was like bruh really that was silliest one and you guys look ik may sounds weird but you guys look in viking way king and queen very cute like adorable together :)
I wonder if it's gonna be kind of difficult to portray a viking assassin. I'm betting he'll be more of a swift sort of fighter type.
Perhaps there will be a berserker mode for the character.
@@VikingsReact Yeah! I wonder if it really was mushrooms that allowed viking berserkers to enter that trance-like fury or if they really liked fighting that much?
Super excited to learn more history!
You guys r the first Channel who Knows that is Alfred and not a Templar
Interesting! We noticed that the seal on the letter he was sending is a very similar design to the coins King Alfred had made so that tipped us off.
These small cut outs.. why?
Mostly just figuring out the ins and outs with copyrights and the parts that were cut we didn't have much reaction to. We're changing this for our future reactions 🙂
Why you cut the part "Odin is with us"
What if the killing of the Spartan looking tank was a call back metaphor to Ubisoft killing all the bs they pulled with odyssey.
It's on our list to review for sure! Bjorn has played the first game and absolutely loved it so we're excited for the sequel. Keep an eye out 🙂
There's actually several voice actors in the game that are characters in The Last Kingdom as well.
Perhaps we'll uncover something in the future 🙂
no one did leather armor right?
We don't know for certain. Leather was definitely used, and it's possible that it may have been used for armor, but there are no depictions of it and no remnants have been found in graves so if leather armor existed it's impossible for us to know what it looked like or how it functioned.
Dude that does look like ragnor from Vikings I love that series or whatever
The big guy was a Templar brute
Viking Spartan AKA The Ringleader.
Why did u cut odin?
Great question! We did recognize him being there but didn't really talk about him so the whole point ended up being cut out in editing. Looking back, we would have a lot more to say about it, but in the moment of the initial reaction, our focus was elsewhere. Perhaps we'll include some commentary on Odin in our future videos.
@@VikingsReact oh thanks
@@VikingsReact I was one year late i just played ac valhalla and im looking for some good reactions
You know I've never preordered any game, I've usually waited but this one might be the first where I buckle down and by the ultimate edition 🤣
The time periode, late 800 century that is in the game was 3 danish ship’s sales from Denmark to England. So start whit Norway is something I don’t like. Vikings is all Scandinavian and not just Norway. If they don’t get the history right I am out.!
Where are you from?
We're currently in the U.S.
Didn't vikings live in the north if so then ya I could understand them having fur to keep them selves warm in the cold north
Archeological evidence paints a different picture 😊
@@VikingsReact I figured becase I all ways knew from history that the lived in the north
@@VikingsReact ahh ok I didn't know
i mean to tell the truth we will never know 100% what the vikings were like unless u lived in that time period
yeah u can read scrolls, books, paintings & whatever but they actually could not be 100% accurate
because u know some do take liberties with things at times because u know the victors write the history
so yeah unless u lived in that time period u cant really state anything as 100% fact
The canon version of the game is the main character is female. So it’s funny how the promotion keeps using the male version
We saw both male and female in promotional materials, actually, but they did seem to skew a little more to the male character.
Why’s y’all skip so much they won’t copyright
We've run into a couple of very minor issues in the past, but we're working past the kinks to make future reactions better :)
Well Vikings were barbarians, not godless, as they had their gods, Odin, Freya... but they were ruthless barbarians who raid and pillage. Go King Alfred Go! (Just joking)
has a beard: viking
Since the vikings got wrecked and kicked out of England I wonder if they'll show that talk about altering history
If they're starting with the great heathen army as is our assumption, the game-play would need to span roughly 200 years for that. We will see!
Are you guys like related to the real vikings (sorry if i sound dumb i don't know much about it)
We do have ancestry there, yes!
@@VikingsReact ooof!! thats so cool
I think you should change skál to skål in about section
It's a cenimatiq trailer
All ACs have them so don't expect it to look like that
Amon amarth 🤘🤘
Hope you both know its not in garne graphics ^^
We do indeed!
Glory or Valhalla
react to Vinland saga. anime viking
i like the Trailer(i know its to 70-80% not historical correct.. but its a Game :D ) but what i Hate(and why i didnt play this games after the first one) Northman share the Arabic Tradition and Fightingstyle?... that dont work for me... sry... the Ideals ok, but not like this. i think Assasins are Arabic so plz let them in Arabic areas and let them Fight with his own Type of "War" against Tyrans. so that makes more sense, its cooler and it makes more fun...
I'm very curious to see if this game addresses that 😁
Reaction to God of war please.
'vikingr'
Larper game.
Are you christians or asatro just to ask?
i hate when they skip parts of the trailer, bad reaction video
Sorry you feel this way! We've fixed the issue in our trailer reactions moving forward. Have a great day!
