After the usual walls of noise, bleeps and bloops and people using arpeggiators mostly for rhythm, this is a much nicer demonstration of the 0-Coast than most of the videos I've found so far. I'm still sitting on the fence a bit about getting one. While I am comfortable working in the box, I have been feeling the urge to get something modular or semi-modular, but there are so many nice options within my budget now it's been hard to decide. When I first heard of the 0-Coast and heard the usual noisy bleeps and bloops I quickly dismissed it, but on closer scrutiny, it is certainly capable of both beautiful random weirdness as well as deliberately melodic music, and it's quite high on my list now. UA-cam's new algorithms have made small channels such as yours and some other 0-Coasters so much harder to find, so I've made sure to subscribe so that you one day might get to your minimum 1,000 subscribers in order for your channel to be monetized. Keep making great music!
Thank you so much Hakon. I'm glad you like this exploration, I was definitely trying to give another perspective on the 0-Coast. If you do end up picking one up, which I hope you do, something I have found helps a lot is to always have it set up and ready to incorporate into your work. Like always have a MIDI channel ready to send out to it, and have it plugged into your interface, makes you much more likely to actually use it haha, in the box is just so easy to slip back into. Thanks so much for the sub too!
@@BenHeim Thanks. While I may yet get one some day, soon after watching this video, I discovered the Kilpatrick Audio Phenol which, for me, ticked all the boxes, especially with the added versatility of having not just one but two oscillators, filters, envelopes (that can also double as LFO's) and VCA's. Since I could get a second hand one for just a tiny bit more than a new 0-Coast, that seemed like great value for money. And also it is great fun as it can both do West-Coast generative weirdness as well as more controlled things: ua-cam.com/video/W70qtELKIEQ/v-deo.html I also like how it doesn't have normalised pre-patched connections.
Thanks! Yeah they are great, I'm just in the process of acquiring some more modular gear, and am super excited for all the ways the 0-coast will be able to interact!
Your demo is awesome! Specially the outro! Wow! So, is the 0-Coast ok for melodic/bass stuff? Or is it more for kinda weird sound stuff? I'm looking for a synth that is different from those that I own (SE-02, JX-08, Microfreak, Volca FM), but still want something that can make good melodic things like in your demo.
Thanks! Honestly I don’t ever really use the 0-Coast Oscillator for melodies or basses, it’s still a great unit for arpeggios and sound design, and especially for use with other modular compatible gear, but I don’t really like the raw oscillator sound. To me, and without a filter, I find it a bit one-dimensional. But if you like it’s tone then go for it. Defs more in the weird spectrum of sounds, but all the sounds in this demo it’s good for haha
Lovely stuff. Could you explain your workflow? Did you pre record the sequence in a DAW then play the MIDI back though the O-Coast or are you running a sequence (key step type thing?) and doing it all live? Sounds awesome.
Thanks Tristan, when you cycle the slop circuit on the 0-coast and decrease the rise and fall times it goes into audio rate and can act as a second oscillator when mixed into the signal path. That is what I do near the end of the video

I realize I am quite randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to watch new tv shows online?
@Dominic Thiago i use FlixZone. Just google for it :)
@Charles Adrien Yup, I've been using Flixzone for since march myself :)
Wonderful video and music!
Thank you mate!
to most useful 0-coast video so far! great work
best 0-coast video I've seen yet, you make it sound very musical
Glad you think so!
Cool riffing! reminds me of Harmonia "Immer Wieder"
Thanks! I love it
Superb ,... and envy that you have extra hands with camera ...one of the top 0-coast videos on YT
thanks so much! Yeah its super helpful to have another person
oh!! Love the pitching / bass line effect you are doing around 7 minutes!! Nice.
Yeah I love that effect too! Thanks so much man
Absolutely love this!! My 0-Coast is basically the unofficial heart of my 6U system. I’m still considering buying a second 0-Coast as we speak. Hahaha
Thanks! Yeah they are great, I'm just in the process of acquiring some more modular gear, and am super excited for all the ways the 0-coast will be able to interact!
Really love this. I just cannot figure out the arpeggiator controls on the 0-Coast, but this is good inspiration to keep trying!
Haha it’s been a while but I don’t think I’m using the onboard arppegiator, I’m sending the arp in via midi
I like your work with the O coast ... kind of same wave length like me
Nice!
Good work! Nice timbre!
Wonderful! 🎶✨👍

Inspiring stuff! Do you still own it? I would love to see what you could come up with with the 0 coast/0 CTRL combo.
Yes I do! Definitely considering expanding my modular selection at the moment

Thank you! It's just an arp sequence being played through Ableton, pretty simple tho, no reason you couldn't do it with a keystep too
So good!
I like this very much!
So nice ...
Many many thanks
That was very impressive
cheers!
Great job! What do you use to sequence it?
Thanks! Just MIDI running out of Ableton Live
Very interesting! But I'm confused, how do you achieve duophony here? Thanks!

@@BenHeim Great, thanks a lot for the info on this, and for this cool patch!
Nice work, how are you sequencing the 0 coast?
Lovely
Thanks!
He, how did you sequnce the chord progression?
It's running from ableton through the 0-Coast MIDI in
Killer!
Nice work.
very nice! Did you calibrate the slope for duophony?
Unifono2012 thanks! Nah didn’t do any calibration, just tuned it by ear
Oh. But then I watched this and am close to just stopping on my way home. Who cares if my wife gets mad... I needs it!
Where's the triangle going out to?
Digby Brown nowhere! I just leave patch cables in things I might want to patch... didn’t end up sticking it anywhere in the end
Here's me about to sell my O Coast and you go and post something like this :/
Haha sorry about that...
As someone who has never owned an 0-coast I can't imagine ever wanting to sell it.
