- RTX 3080 from MSI came in for repair. According to its owner, it was crashing while watching youtube which i find hard to believe given the state of the GPU. Oh well. At least i had one fixed that day.
For repair, please contact me by following the link in the channel ABOUT page.

It seems clear from the owner that the card crashed THEN stopped PC from booting. It makes perfect sense to me.
birds of a feather
He also misunderstood the owner never overclocked it, not that it isn't an OC version. Not sure if this is weird humor or a ESL thing.
@@Andrew-ky8oc8cq4n language has stucture system, maybe some should learn to use it.
@Fatpumpumlovah2 "not OC'ed" explicitly means "was not overclocked"
So yes, he misunderstood.
@@Andrew-ky8oc8cq4n maybe the customer should write like a proper human being maybe and not like a cave man?
9:20 I think when the customer said it's not overclocked they meant they didn't do any overclocking to it. People don't consider factory overclock to be overclock.
Yeah, for the last decade, clock is irrelevant. All we care about is power, and at fixed current that means voltage. The question is whether the mfr boosted voltage past reference spec.
I loved the Lockpicking Lawyer reference. Great content as always!
Click out of five, click out of two. Binding. XD
Keep yer dick in a vise.
Yess! Thanks for making a video with my cards! I'll watch after work lol!
shorted a 3080 how did u manage that
Silver play button you're almost there congratulations in advance!
What does it do ?
Nothing, but you can do whatever you like to do with it, but if you don't want it just give it to sleepy Joe Biden lol.@@northwestrepair
I think the guys meant while watching yt his PC crashed, and after that, the PC did not boot.
Yep, makes sense that is what I thought as well.
Love watching you work! Hope your having a good New Year!
I will watch it in the morning, love your videos so relaxing
It's always a pleasure watching your repairs, thorough and well explained. No components randomly replaced, no "no fix" because there is no short. Kudos.
Love your vids its like calming therapy.
I could watch these repair videos for days
I just bought an evga 1080 ti based on your reflections. Hope it works! Keep up the videos and humour.
Oh no....last thing you want to see is a glow on the core once you input voltage :[
Rest in peace 3080. No more UA-cam videos from you Im afraid
Always learning something new great vids as always 👍
Happy new year!
If you learn something during all these repairs is that you should never trust the customer XD
Watching you play BF1 on a mining vbios 3060ti was such a repair tech vibe 😂😂 thanks for the laugh Tony and many that 3080 had some pretty lights in the end huh? 😢
When your graphics card has pubes, you know it's getting older.
Come on ppl don’t forget to give Tony the likes!. 😊
But he only pressed the button once initially... And it looks like he already has more than one like 😅
My MSI GeForce 3070 is experiencing the same thing after crashing while playing fornite. This video is very helpful.
love to see playtime after repair lol good job
Nice work as always!!
I still love the external bios flashing due to dedicated hardware and power to flash completely / pcb load times decreased well as overclock ranges increased
Man i really am great at beeing repair assistant Kapp Keep up the great work ^^
Have a blessed day to you too good sir. Btw i enjoyed your video. It's entertaining and educational. Wish i could afford them pc with them gpu's you know just to know the experience on how it feels to play video games if i have the luxury of it.
One of these days I'll comprehend even 1% of the technobabble in these videos!
any 3.3v ldo with enable pin can do the job.
A wonder if that guy just mined the crap out of these cards without cleaning them and just cleaned after they died.
Nice fix as always.
the component is an NCP114AMX330, found in nvidia quadro
Yep we did learn something we learned that some things are fixable and some things are just not no matter what you do.
Black Bess from BF1! Those big ass tanks were a lot of fun to play with 😁
There is a version of NvFlash that has the ability to do protected flash overrides
thanks - I enjoy the victory with you
Pcb video output and first phases of power sensitivity it’s why cards run at like 50c with no fan profiles
yes we liked it ofc ! Thanks
He was watching videos on UA-cam and it crashed and then he can't get it to boot anymore ...
ya doing very good work for the peeps
Just bought a strix 4090 and had the exact same problem. gaming and benchmarks were fine, but browsing or watching videos the card crashed. Had to rma it.
My 3080 ventus has been hot as crap went ahead and got a 4080 gonna repair this one and give it to my son
I have an ASUS TUF 3080 12GB that shows blocks of black graphics randomly but rarely when watching UA-cam. It has never done it gaming or on any other website. Temps and voltages are fine. I stopped being concerned when I couldn't get the same artifacting duplicated on any other program or website.
nice video bro......but, what about with the core clock when you play the game....is too low or not........
Whats your opinion about zotac 3060ti with new Gddr6x models of micron? Are they reliable to buy than samsung or hynix?
Best Battlefield 1 gameplay ever
My PC used to crash all the time. It has a 2080 Super in it. The problem was power. I had to run two different PCIe powers on it.
it seems to be running very low clocks during the gaming test
Which wendor is best for 3080 and which one should be avoided ?
19:14 You miss a 0 ohm resistor on the right side (R462). Fixed a RTX 2060 today and the only problem was that, maybe the first LDO was fine.
you learn quick sus
Yo. Batty fat
Nice video.
great job!!!
great stuff. aside from user error or things like gpu sagging, which board partners make solid gpu's? let's say amd 6000 and rtx 3000 series
At least from my experience on amd: sapphire, asrock, asus and reference design (if it's good). Bought powercolor hellhound 7800 xt recently and pc started to randomly restart, replaced every part of my pc... Ended up it was a faulty gpu based on the people I've found on the internet. Currently doing an rma... apparently it's the most common with powercolor cards. Saw some reports with xfx, msi and gigabyte too so far but not as many as with powercolor.
Sapphire for AMD
For AMD it is Sapphire, XFX, Powercolor. From mainstream ones ASUS seems to be doing nice. Gigabyte is slightly better than MSI with AORUS series usually.
For Nvidia actually no idea as of late. EVGA was top choise before they said "i'm out"
You can encounter issues with any AIB. My recommendation mostly based on how AIB approaches AMD cards.
Too bad BFG isn't still in business.
Testing with tanks was epic 😁
A little trick regarding BIOS flashing is to use HIVE OS mining OS to flash GPUs or backup the BIOS image if the card is functional. I haven't found any GPU that it can't flash :)
I have a 3060 Ti with the Hynix chips, and recently while watching UA-cam videos (On Brave and Edge browsers) the screen would randomly flicker a checkered pattern artifact for a brief millisecond. Is this sign the card is dying?
the 3060 is EUR 230 now used, will drop more when the 5090 arrives. He must really have needed to get that card back making the repair worthwhile.
That microscope is amazing, which model Sir?
If I were a 3080 watching this channel I'd also want some TLC for myself.
Well? Stands to reason dunnit?
Still wonder if that 3080 bios that was on there was the wrong one to start with that he flashed on to it.. since he did say it was not an OC card. This is why I can never trust bios versions when people give me cards. Who knows what they've done to them.
I meant overclocked (more voltage and frequency) on the note lmao not the card version 🤣
There is a bug in windows 10 and 11 that causes checkerboard artifacts in chrome. Reports online seem to say 30 series are effected especially. Confirmed online if you wanna check and seen it myself. Just fyi for anyone reading this.
3.3_seq first thing to check if on No power 3000 series
I've mostly seen a bunch of nvidia cards on here. Do you get AMD cards too? If so which manufacturer have you seen the most of?
the silicone residue from the pads on a graphic card can be removed by using brake cleaner :)
That'll be very harsh on some components
No. Brake cleaners actually not safe on electronics , they are meant to clean off oil off cast iron rotors. Use a proper electrical contact cleaner. If you only have automotive parts, then use a mass airflow sensor cleaner , as they are designed to be safe on sensitive electronics without leaving residue.
Good luck
Would a missing or broken solder ball make the gpu core look like its shorted or you gor sure its unfixable at that point like done deal no ifs...
Does a broken link in a chain look like a knot?
I liked it.
Is memory junction temp reaching 84 C watching your youtube ok? It ramped up when you played that tank game
They were both mining cards most likely and fried at least one of them. The other not as much. BF1 is one of the better ones. Better than BFV at least.
Correct, 3080 was for a bit then sold it to my buddy. He was in fact watching UA-cam when his pc turned off.
Your videos make me want to buy a broken gpu but I cannot find any
ok so on that 3080, the thermal cam showed core heating up thus you called it dead? Can you explain? I thought core should heat up when you power on :P
or was it just that one corner of it started to burn?
Better than factory!
I'm wondering how you got the datasheets.
I got gtx 660 oc gigabyte that dont give picture anymore should i send it to you to reborn it...
the card running 780mhz if you see on rivatuner maybe not fixed
And very low fps because of it
But what is it with 5000 Mhz memory clock ?

I love the memes 😂, "huh".
hello, my RTX 2070 SUPER (msi ventus) keeps black screening and having its fans go to 100% speed as soon as i enter a game, the only thing that helps is an FPS limit.
do you have any idea what could be causing this?
Can’t remember if it was the same issue, but I saw Northwestrepair suggesting to blow? the pcie slot?
Failing power stage may cause that
It’s more than likely getting too hot. Make sure to use msi afterburner and see gpu core and hotspot temps(usually gpu temp1 and temp2
fixing 3080 on a huge stormy day! huricane warning!
i just knew it was going to be that first chip you checked @ 14:52 it had a huge crack in it
not a crack, at 15:24 he wipes whatever that is off with his finger
@@Knaeckebrotsaege i see now missed that
What is your dignosing software ?
If the 3080 is checking for memory channel D is it possible to add the two chips to have it 12gb instead of 10gb ?
No have to change the straps
Not possible. Nvidia fused off the memory controllers off the GA102 silicon from factory. There is no way to enable it.
you man you interested in an overheating 2070 ?
missing your "helloo internet"
do you have a repair website?
So it wasn't the shmuck on the gpu that broke it?
I want to do what you do; can you teach me?
Im just here to multiply the effect.
What I suspect he means is that the customer was playing a UA-cam and the card just died get a black screen then beeps on boot, this happened to my ASUS 8800GTX which was under RMA and was replaced with a 9800GTX and it also happened to my eVGA GTX260 which I bought online and got imported because everyone was saying how great they are and upgrade process, Even tho that was within warranty eVGA refused to honour it because it was imported even if I was willing to pay for the shipping of the graphics cards to the US and back. I found out later that nVidia was skimping on solder and and GPU's were dying at a much higher rate. They were sued in 2008 because they withheld information on defective GPU's....
i wonder what would happen to a gpu if you fitted all the components to those unpopulated pads? im sure someone has asked this before, i just wonder if soldering on the missing components would add vram or something that the bios can't detect, or just fry everything all at the same time?
Nothing, actually. GPU's have fixed bus width which is physical link in silicon die. Each memory chip have fixed 32 bit bus connected to it, that is why by looking at VRAM size you can state bus width usually. 96=3/6 128=4/8, 160=5/10, 192=6/12, 256=8/16, 320=10/20, 384=12/24, 512=16/32
Why each bus width have 2 memory sizes written in? Because there are 2 different VRAM die density, 1GB/die or 2GB/die. Also shows how much Nvidia cheapens on RTX 4060 and 4060Ti (they use just 4x2GB chips, 3060Ti has 8x1GB hence higher bandwidth and faster access times despite lower VRAM frequency). 4060Ti 16GB version uses 8x2GB chip configuration by placing them on 2 sides of GPU. But as bus size is still same, that means that 32bit width/die is getting reduced to 16 bit, or there are 2 chips linked on one bus fragment.
So these 2 more channels won't even be recognised, as there is no HW bus linked to these channels) and exist just to reduce cost of development a bit and adapt same exact PCB for high tier card (or, it usually works in reverse, using higher tier boards for lower tier cards by removing component within accessable by spec range. Which is kinda weird, because next step in memory is 3080 for VRAM (8->10 GB that corresponds to 2 empty places) isn't it? So did they just adapted 3080 PCB for 3060Ti?
That means that you can double up on memory capacity (by using 2GB chips instead of 1GB), but you cannot make unfilled channels recognisable without having die with larger bus size.
👏
It is quite obvious he was watching UA-cam then the problem happened. So after that not bot anymore...
22:44 yoink!
I think he meant it broke while watching UA-cam and now his computer won’t boot anymore.
i think he ment that after it crashed watching UA-cam that it wouldn't boot
How on earth did that voltage regulator "Lose a leg"? Where did it go? That's crazy.
👍👍👌👌✌✌
to be fair my gpu crashes when i watch northridgefix
How can I get my motherboard repaired? Email or coment
he said crashed while watching UA-cam, so the last time the card worked he was watching UA-cam... and after that the card was the boot problem
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
English seems to be a hard language for alot of people... "Mining" is all i need to know about that person and why the cards are the way they are
Hey! Lmao, at least I was honest for the diag and don't be jealous, I made 35k with my rigs 🥴 if you want specifics then it mined etherium for 2 years and I got the card brand new.
@@kiaenigmaadventures If 35k is something to be proud of buddy... make that shit almost daily watching my minions run about while i sip my drinks on the beach.
Honest? Honest would be "hey i use this gpu for mining and it died" not "oh i was watching youtube and my pc stopped working"
@Fatpumpumlovah2 🤣🤣🤣 this is just a hobby bro, have fun trying to belittle people on the internet. I make plenty of money and love my river view in my 3 story house and 6 vehicles in the garage and yard 😘

LOL
River View? that cannot match a mansion on beach front property in the caribbean.
6 cars in the driveway and a garage?! wow you aimed high didnt ja LOL... you driving them all at once? or just to compensate?
How exactly did i belittle you? by stating you write sentences like a 4yr old child? (referring to your note on your card)
did i bring up wealth first? or you was it you so proud of your 35K earned in 2 years?
you so rich why not just dump the card and buy a new one like you said you did anyway, or you just get off on sending it in so you he may make a video about it and you can post "OOOHHHH DAZ MY CARD!!!! "
your sad AF.
@@kiaenigmaadventuresso you're dishonest, selfish, and an asshole. What a trifecta.
Hi! What brand of GPU maker do you receive the most from people, and the brands that rarely enter your shop? Thank you! (Like everybody so it goes to the top comments)
Statistically speaking, that's not a relevant question.
@@procs81 why is that? my understanding is that some brands use cheap components therefore wouldn't there be more break downs?
@@mpwzzz Sure, but if you don't take into account the number of units sold and other factors like regional differences you can't draw any conclusions. If 90% of a certain type of card sold are for example from Asus, the likelihood of those cards appearing for repairs is much higher than any other. We should ask what cards use the best components or have the best built quality in his opinion.
@@procs81 Great points.... and yes a much better question.
Obvious take away is you need to clean your ports.
