      That is a bad idea especially if you are just an average joe and not an expert. What you should do is to look for an equally capable repairman.

      I doubt that people would pay the amount required to fix issues like this. it must take a lot of time to do these kind of repairs to where it'll only really be cost effective for high end gpu repairs. and even then I'd argue that most people would opt to get another gpu instead of using an already repaired card for fear or future issues.

      reason why all electronics is replaced rather then repaired is simple - new component is cheaper then paying skill electronic worker, probably engineer, to work hours or day on one card
      this could only be viable if it is simple fault on highest end cards like 3090 or 4090 now

      This does not pay well simply because I charge very little.
      I have to keep this as a hobby until I grow up to Northridge fix level. How ever, he only does 10 minute repairs and that's the only way it will justify his business.
      I will go broke if I do this full time.

    Subscribed and joined the discord. Great work NWR, I appreciate the videos. I'm debating if I should have an older graphics (GTX650 Ti boost 2GB) card repaired. It has served me well for many years but recently took a dump causing me to upgrade to a moderately better card. Still, it would be nice to have a backup card handy in case that happens to me again. Thanks again for the videos.

    Excellent work man. In a future video, could you go over the various liquids you apply during your repairs? I know a lot of rubbing alcohol is being used for cleaning, but for the other liquids, I can never tell if it's flux or conductive glue and would really like to know.

      flux, alcohol, UV curing resin.
      Sometimes break cleaner.

    I love your videos, you are making great content! I have a question, you said that STRIX cards are actually pretty bad but you only showed the 1000 cards. Are the rtx 3000 STRIX cards also as bad as you say or are they doing a better job? And now that EVGA is done with GPUs what are our options?

    Ive had old gpu, well i can say i cooked it, beacuse i havent deep cleaned it and it looked yellowish from the inside.
    Its nice to see that its acualy repairable. Even tho not consistently i guess.
    Now i have 1060 3gb. Ill be upgrading soon, i dont really know what to do with it guess ill sell it, or give it to cousin.

    I'm watchmaker, and i LOVE your work, very similar. Focus, detect and correct the problem.
    I have 1 old 980Ti, with the "famous" problem of R172 & R174. Only a bit toasted, not burned or exploded.
    I never do anything with Electronic micosoldering but, after see you, i'm thinking give a try to Repair that old GPU.
    Can you give me some "novel tips"? And sorry 4 the bad english, not muy native language :)

      Literally in every video i follow same steps until i stumble upon a problem.
      Start with measurements. Find short circuit.
      If it isnt there, check for voltages.
      If you missing voltage, you know where to focus at the very least.

      Galax (as KFA² in Europe). Hong Kong established, but chips, vram , etc, made in Japan, (from Seiko, Japanese legendary electronics manufactures) unlike Asus that everything is made in china. Asus are notorious for worst and longest customer support too. So, my top picks for gpu's, Galax>MSi>Sapphire>XFX. Not even think about Gigabyte. Worst brand both for gpu/motherboards.

    Hey, just found your channel by chance. Who makes the best quality cards in your opinion next to EVGA (doesn´t matter if Nvidia or AMD chip)? I am currently in the process of gathering the funds to build a new PC. I used to like MSI and my current card has worked without problems for the last 3 years, but with more recent information, I might stay away from the brand for a while.

      Based on previous designs I'd say sapphire makes the best board designs. I'd even go so far as to say that they made better designs than evga sometimes. It's a damn shame they don't make nvidia cards, though based on evga's recent statements they seem to have dodged a bullet...

      @@WineLad well, I dont like sapphire. They are pretty bad on the "normalised fan loudness" temperature tests compared to other board partners like MSI. So for example at 40db(a), a sapphire runs hotter than some other cards with the same gpu.

      It's a hit and miss.
      They may make good cooling but forget fuses. Or they put fuses but make it so huge it will crack under its own weight.

      No. Motherboards are cheap and take much more time and effort and parts to repair then video cards. Makes absolutely no sense to repair them.

      a no fix typically means 3 things
      dead core
      Dead memory or both.
      Damaged PCB beyond repair.

      i dont have ultrasonic. If needed, i will flush flux from under the chip with alcohol using a syringe.
