You can spout the lentils and chick peas to increase the nutritional value. After you soak them, strain them in a colander and then rinse twice a day until they get tails. In the summer that should only take 2-3 days. You can also dehydrate the sprouted lentils or chickpeas to preserve if you have too much. You can make a raw hummus out of the sprouted chickpeas, as well, to get an extra meal or two, or to get a nice snack out of them.
Im in South Africa 🇿🇦 i also want to change Ive been journaling my health plan.I did a research on some food ingredients I realised most ingredients in our food are toxic and slowly killing us.
Fellow UA-camr Eva Loves Raw makes an excellent faux tuna salad with sunflower seeds. Soak the seeds overnight in water. Next day, blend celery, carrots, and onion. The add the soaked sunflower seeds and blend again. Makes a kind of pate. Blend in dulse or kelp, or nori to get the sea flavor. Maybe even add a little Old Bay seasoning. I make a delicious faux tuna salad sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes on whole grain bread. Can be used on a raw wrap also.
OMG I had an ah-ha moment when watching this video. Usually I'll look for a recipe and then go out and buy the ingredients. No wonder it costs so much when it comes time to pay. Watching you shopping and choosing the most affordable fruits and veg was the ah-ha moment. Start with the produce and then formulate a recipe. Thanks for the wonderful video. I too am a fellow Ontario resident. :)
Ive been eating Raw Vegan for a week now and have definitely went over budget many times...lol...but I'm getting into a flow of fluids in the morning followed by fruit and then a savory meal for dinner and if I'm having a sweet tooth(rare) i make banana ice cream or chia pudding. I wanted to thank you for making this simple and easy to follow it makes me feel good about my upcoming week! looking forward to enjoying more of your videos :)
Fully raw vegan Christina Changed her way to proteins n powders but she used to do real food only n she had an awesome cherry n a bit of fight a date n nut n salt crust pie, it is so so good!
That's awesome. The cost in Aus would easily be $250 for that amount of fruit & veg. Iceberg Lettuce is currently $11. Extortion! Makes it difficult for most.
I use the flash food app for large boxes of "ugly" fruits and vegetables. Really makes a difference since fruit is super expensive where I live. My budget is about $30-$40 per week.
I love that you show what can be bought, what can be made, and that you can find good deals on raw foods! With a menu like this, I believe supplements, legumes, things like that, are required for a full nutritional value, so I am glad you mentioned them! Eating just the fruits and veggies would not be enough.
Damn, didn't know you could use soaked lentils in a raw vegan diet, that's a game changer! I have come across sprouted before at Raw Aura. Another cool item I never would have thought is raw sweet potato spiralized in to noodles (learned that one from Mimi Kirk).
I absolutely love this! I wish you would of been around years ago. I used to spend $250 a week easy being a Raw vegan. I'm actually getting back after being off it 10 years ago. but I'm only doing 85 percent and then letting myself eat 15 cooked foods. Ill never be as extreme as I used to be but yes eating mostly raw and vegan is the way.
that's awesome you're getting back !! And 85% is amazing !! yeah i have to do another budget one soon as my financial situation currently needs to be back on that budget 😁🤣
$250 a week ? Damn one reason I couldn’t eat like that. I spend about $300 a month for mostly food bought at the health food store and I live in Hawaii
I just came back from the store and spent $54 and got all organic (not planned, good prices for SF ) for a week. I can't believe how much food I could get for that price. Thank you for your inspiration, shopping list and recipe ideas!
And your daughter is so cute!! She did such a great job on this video! Also- thank you so much for teaching about and how to soak the lentils and chickpeas! 😊💖💖💖💖💖🌱🌱💚💚💚💚
Gillian thank you so much for making this video. My husband and I have been vegans for 26 days now. A few days ago I saw your interview with Jacqui Waters and I was so inspired to try raw vegan. My husband being vegan is still kind of blowing my mind. He is a big guy who loved steak (huge steaks mind you). But we both watched What the Health and then The Game Changers and it just clicked for us. All in. But I'm having some biome issues which are a lifetime thing really. I was hopeful that being a vegan would help. I understand what Jacqui was saying about this being a long road of deconstruction first and I'm ready for that. I'm almost 62 so I've been constructing this crooked house for a loooong time. =) I'm cool with taking it down first to rebuild. So now, I'm thinking of going raw vegan, at least for most of the day. For the past few weeks I was kind of overwhelmed by all the choices and recipes and going crosseyed trying to build a meal plan. And spending waaaay too much on all the meals I wanted to try! So finding your video, I'm literally saying out loud, "Oh thank God. What a great idea!" Two staple meals! So much easier. I plan to watch everything you ever recorded because I have a lot to learn. Thank you so much for your videos. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to produce the excellence you create. Very grateful! Oh also I'm on IG @tizzlovesrowdy doing a new recipe a day and today I'll be mentioning this video. I'm calling this year's 100dayproject "an accidental comedy" because man. SO many mistakes. Learning experiences. XD ♥

I have been a raw vegan almost five years and never knew these beans could be soaked for 8 hours then eaten as they are! Thank you for all the tips in this amazing video. I can't wait to try the beans, the dressing recipes and attempting to spend $50 a week my next shopping trip. Have a blessed week!❤

Wow. This is literally my first week of looking into this lifestyle for cleansing purposes. I started with your friend Shane Sterling and have found this great video. I’m a mom of 6 in Northwestern North Dakota. Budgets are critical. I was a little skeptical of what the finished products would be… 😆 but these look really, really good!
This is so inspiring, Gillian! I think my food bill has increased a lot since going from WFPB vegan to raw vegan! It's summer here so I've been buying cherries, berries, watermelon and mangoes - it's easy to spend a lot! I'm going to work on buying less of the pricey things and look for somewhere locally that is a bit less expensive 🤞🤞🤞 I'd love to see you do this while it's winter for you 😉 You and your daughter look so happy and healthy preparing food together 💕💕💕

Hey Gillian. I recently decided to go fully raw vegan. I have been plant based vegan for a year now and am ready to go raw. I wanted to see if you have tried dill in your avocado dressing instead of oregano‽ It's amazing. Thanks for your videos. They have been inspiring me.

OhmyGosh did you say 39th birthday? Had to put on the captions to make sure I got that right🤣 You look too young!!! Your daughter is too cute! Love what you're doing for the RV community. New subbie🙏🏿
Super helpful, thanks so much! I didn't know we could eat the lentils right after the 8 hour soak. I thought we had to wait for the little sprouts 😆😁 good news to me! I'm about to buy these same things maybe except for the peachers because they aren't in season. Thanks!
We are creatures of habit and it is easier to stick to a familiar staple dish rather than creating something new all the time (which is for most of us impossible indeed). So, these are great ideas Gillian! And amazing content! Love your work! ❤️
Hey Gillian, 1/ what do you decide to buy organic and what not? ... 2/Do you pay attention on avoiding GMO products? 3/ We're almost 100% raw for years now ... but we struggle with proteins and yes we eat soaked lentils. And do you know how your body can absorb it more easily How do you solve this protein-issue without using protein powders yourself? 4/You are talking about supplements? Which and why? * 5/ About your recipe preparations also a question as we avoid garlic and onion ... in this pesto, without the garlic it's tasty still. Do you have an idea for something to replace it? Thanks
Thank you for sharing this. I also feel much better eating light at the first part of the day. I usually always drink two smoothies and that lasts me for hours. God bless you!
Great video, Gillian! I just got back from shopping for a raw diet here in Tokyo to have spent over $50 just for 1 or 2 days - painful to see the difference in prices but happy to see you and others make the most of more affordable prices.
I enjoyed this video...but happy to see it was a year ago as prices here are insane....you would not get that for 60 bucks here in Ontario Canada. Those tomatoes would be at least 7 dollars here....prices are crazy. I would be interested to you make the veggie pasta some time. Blessings from the great white north!!
Hi Healthy Living!!! Yes this market is crazy good!!! If I had gone to other markets it would be way more!! I recently found this place......hope you can find one like it!! P.S I LOVE NY!! Pre C times I usually go there quite often!! And I always stay raw there it's' amazing!!
I’m going back high raw my goal is raw juice morning. Cabbage. Some days apples cabbage celery. Fruit after that. Lunch would be something like smoothies protein shakes raw, fruit platters. Chia pudding. Rawnola. Dinners will be big salads or veggie platters and some type of raw dip. Raw burritos. Raw taco boats. Snacks will be fruit salad bowls. Smoothies. Raw fruit and dates. Dates and raw almond butter. Raw banana splits with cocoyo raw yogurt. Raw almond butter. And berries. Some dinners will be cooked items added like cooked sweet potato beans or white potato to salads.
Wow.. those are great prices even if USD! I lived near Washington DC in the States, and never got mangoes, avocados, or many of those things even near those prices. I live in Peru now, and some of those prices are comparable to around here. I will try the lentils!
yeah the prices are great at certain spots here in Toronto !! You really have to look around for the best shops ! for me the little random markets on the city streets are the cheapest !!
these baskets are the best. !! i got them at whole foods they're all hand made and they are worth it they last a couple i have i purchased like 7 or 8 years ago !
This was so helpful please make more videos with two recipes option for the week. I find it so much more accessible when we don’t have to cook 1673637 new recipes. It’s such a great beginner start
Awesome video! I didn't know, you could just soak lentils or chickpeas (without sprouting them) and then eat them right away ^^ New lesson learned XD Your daughter May is supercute!
My raw vegan diet is about $30 US dollars a day !! I live in Florida and organic fruit and vegetables are so expensive ....there's no way here to get them cheap... And non organic is horrid....my diet keeps me absolutely broke haha
Oh wow - really!? Yeah now that you mention that - whenever I visit my Dad in Florida I always end up spending quite a bit! Is there anyway for you to grow stuff!?
Yes, us too, organic is a ridiculous price n keeps us broke too! We are in S tennessee. In case the dollar goes bust we bought a bunch of canned organic vegys just in case. We have a few potted herbs but it’s not enough. There may be no fresh fruits n vegys. Or too much to afford. We believe the Bible and see we will be going through some hard times,
If you're soaking lentils and the chick peas, they should be organic. You can eat them after being soaked but they taste better and even become more nutritious (vitamins and minerals increaseeven more than after soaking alone) after sprouting 2 to 3 days.
Great info! 🤩 What a cool market! 👍🏼 I totally agree with the idea of two staple meals for the week - makes it doable and affordable! 💥 Mae is adorable and such a good helper! 😉 In my experience, that is not enough fruit for a week. I eat 1-2 mangoes + 2 bananas for my breakfast bowl *each morning.* Similar amounts in my fruit bowl for supper *every day.* 🥭🍌 I appreciated your tips on the lentils and chickpeas! After my digestion improves, I can’t wait to try that! (Have you tried sprouting the lentils and chickpeas? I believe they are even more alive and tasty sprouted!) 😋 Well done, Gillian! ✨🤩✨
Hi Paula !! Thanks for watching ♥️ No, I haven't fully sprouted them before...this method of soaking is just so simple and easy so for now I do that. But I definitely will fully sprout them one day. I do love the taste of them like this though they have a perfect crunch 👌 🤩 Have a lovely day 🥭
I’m curious how do you handle feeding your family who is not vegan (my husband is not). It was doable to create things I could throw meat in at the end, but with raw - more work and shopping I find. No fridge space for everything either!!!!
Damn, 50 usd per person per week is considered budget in this day and age? That's crazy! In my three person household (where one of us is just a tiny human so far) we would still pay around 500-550 usd per month in food. I mean we pay almost this, but we eat a roughly raw til 4 diet with lots of legumes and tubers to get costs down. Basically nothing organic because of price. To go all raw and organic would about double or food expenses.
i have to say, i was very surprised when i saw you wearing a mask. i just made certain assumptions based off of your diet/lifestyle, it's always cool when those are challenged! love your channel.
Hey!! It was the only way i was allowed to film in the store....C was still happening here in toronto when I filmed the video and I had to oblige by their rules in order to film:)
Unfortunately You have to Sprout chickpeas or any beans For 4-5 days minimum. Do your Research on it. If you're fighting any health issues or disease It would be the worst mistake to eat raw chickpeas or beans that have been soaked for such a short period of only 8 hours. Other than that great vid though. 😀
Incorrect! Not true for some of them you do NOT and lentils and chickpeas you don't. Please do your research and watch this video! ua-cam.com/video/l1-xQ_Ktvws/v-deo.html Also many videos and people in the industry have shown me you don't plus I do this myself and they make me feel amazing so from my own experience also it is fine !!
Unfortunately where I live in southern Western Australia there are no cheap places to buy stuff. The one farmers market is as, if not more, expensive that the supermarkets which are very pricey. And the weather/our section isn’t too conducive to growing stuff. All my last lot of lettuce and coriander went to seed before forming anything worthwhile. Makes being healthy very difficult.😢
Dang. Mangoes are $4.99 a lb. In Hawaii. Even tho there are mango trees everywhere. Majority are from Mexico and SEA! Zucchini’s likely to be gmo. Everything looks great.
The chick peas will sprout? I didn't know that.

Thank you so much for this. I started raw vegan last week. These tips and recipes are great! Your daughter is so cute!
you're so welcome!! 💜💜💜 and thanks Mae is the best 🌸🌸🌸🌸
I didn't know it was possible to eat lentils and chickpeas this way😄 that's amazing❤
I keep coming back to this video. What a great ressource!
🙏🙏🙏💙💙
Super helpful, thanks so much! I didn't know we could eat the lentils right after the 8 hour soak. I thought we had to wait for the little sprouts 😆😁 good news to me! I'm about to buy these same things maybe except for the peachers because they aren't in season. Thanks!
amazing !!!! yes they're so good !!
and yes peaches out of season now 😁
Raw Vegan is the way to go!
Yes ! 🙌
We are creatures of habit and it is easier to stick to a familiar staple dish rather than creating something new all the time (which is for most of us impossible indeed). So, these are great ideas Gillian! And amazing content! Love your work! ❤️
🧡🧡🧡🧡
@@GillianBerry oh by the way, I believe you can also soak and eat black rice :) no cooking required:) Not sure if you tried.
@@vegan.enlightenment wow interesting!! I think I have heard that before !!
@@GillianBerry some variation and new textures :)
Hey Gillian,
1/ what do you decide to buy organic and what not? ...
2/Do you pay attention on avoiding GMO products?
3/ We're almost 100% raw for years now ... but we struggle with proteins and yes we eat soaked lentils.
And do you know how your body can absorb it more easily
How do you solve this protein-issue without using protein powders yourself?
4/You are talking about supplements? Which and why?
*
5/ About your recipe preparations also a question as we avoid garlic and onion ... in this pesto, without the garlic it's tasty still. Do you have an idea for something to replace it?
Thanks
Uncooked beans have lectins, and there are accounts of people actually dying from eating raw beans.
Thank you for sharing this. I also feel much better eating light at the first part of the day. I usually always drink two smoothies and that lasts me for hours. God bless you!
amazing !!
God bless You !!
Great video, Gillian! I just got back from shopping for a raw diet here in Tokyo to have spent over $50 just for 1 or 2 days - painful to see the difference in prices but happy to see you and others make the most of more affordable prices.
Hi Duncan !! That's too bad !! I get it thought ! It's very easy to spend a lot on the diet. At least you're able to - & it's worth it ! 💜
Feel for you. Tokyo is extremely expensive.
Definitely going to try the raw food vegan experience. Two stable meals and fruit, good easy and affordable approach! Well done! 👧🦋
What wonderful tips & cute girl. This year's prices are much higher especially in Interior Alaska but these recipes will definitely help🙂
Bloor Fruit Market! When I was living in the Annex I would shop there all the time. Great place for organic produce.
no way that's awesome Jordan !!
ya a great market forsure ❤️❤️
I enjoyed this video...but happy to see it was a year ago as prices here are insane....you would not get that for 60 bucks here in Ontario Canada. Those tomatoes would be at least 7 dollars here....prices are crazy. I would be interested to you make the veggie pasta some time. Blessings from the great white north!!
Wow, $50 would get me about a third of what you were able to buy here in Upstate New York!
Hi May & Happy 39th Birthday 🎉 it's your birthday and I'm gifted with an AMAZING Utuber, whooohooo
💙💙💙
Bell peppers should always be organic since the pesticides are in the body of peppers.
👏
Thanks for the tip on the soaked lentils. I’ll try them!
you're very welcome !!! yes those are a game changer and so cheap !!
Thank you for showing us how you use the produce! Most people don't show that part
my pleasure!! will create another budget one sometime !
Wow.. those are great prices even if USD! I lived near Washington DC in the States, and never got mangoes, avocados, or many of those things even near those prices. I live in Peru now, and some of those prices are comparable to around here. I will try the lentils!
yeah the prices are great at certain spots here in Toronto !! You really have to look around for the best shops ! for me the little
random markets on the city streets are the cheapest !!
Really nice video. You and your family radiate health
🙏🙏❤️❤️
Whoa, whoa! You can eat lentils & chickpeas RAW (without cooking OR sprouting)???!!!
I love that basket I need me one for grocery shopping 🫶🍓🍒🍎🍞🥦🥒
these baskets are the best. !! i got them at whole foods they're all hand made and they are worth it they last a couple i have i purchased like 7 or 8 years ago !
This was so helpful please make more videos with two recipes option for the week. I find it so much more accessible when we don’t have to cook 1673637 new recipes. It’s such a great beginner start
yes will def try do more recipe vids going to try film a bunch in august!
glad it was helpful! that's why I do it:)
We believe the Bible and see we will be going through some hard times,
39?!! You look amazing! ❤
🙏🙏🙏
If you're soaking lentils and the chick peas, they should be organic. You can eat them after being soaked but they taste better and even become more nutritious (vitamins and minerals increaseeven more than after soaking alone) after sprouting 2 to 3 days.
Fantastic video!! Luv the lentil tip!!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Paula !! Thanks for watching ♥️
No, I haven't fully sprouted them before...this method of soaking is just so simple and easy so for now I do that. But I definitely will fully sprout them one day. I do love the taste of them like this though they have a perfect crunch 👌 🤩
Have a lovely day 🥭
Hiya lovely, please make a raw hummus recipe and also could you do a chickpea sprouted recipe?? (I obvs love chickpeas aha)
Great tips, people can do this lifestyle on a budget, if they really want 😀
🙌🙌🙌
In the US we can’t eat anything non organic though. Our country sprays with glyophosphate
ya organic is always best/ideal!
I’m glad I found your this video the salad looks amazing I will try it this week
💟💟💟
I love your outfit and hair!!!
ty!!! got the dress at a random shop in toronto near the store i was produce shopping in!!!
13:15 You're such a big ''little Mae'', Gillian! I just wanna hug you BOTH! #cuties
I’m curious how do you handle feeding your family who is not vegan (my husband is not). It was doable to create things I could throw meat in at the end, but with raw - more work and shopping I find. No fridge space for everything either!!!!
cilantro and rutabaga are cheap, as are radishes and celery. I also do apples
Very true - great points
We need more people like you!
thank you ! 💙
Great video Gillian ,your daughter is adorable💕👍
Thank you ! 💜💜💜
Thank you for showing me what to do with lentils and chickpeas!! I had no idea you can eat them raw!!
my pleasure!!! ya they're so good !!! especially the lentils !!!!
Can you do that with any lentils, or just specific types of lentils?
Damn, 50 usd per person per week is considered budget in this day and age?
That's crazy!
In my three person household (where one of us is just a tiny human so far) we would still pay around 500-550 usd per month in food.
I mean we pay almost this, but we eat a roughly raw til 4 diet with lots of legumes and tubers to get costs down. Basically nothing organic because of price.
To go all raw and organic would about double or food expenses.
that's great you spend that for the house !!! 👏
Great information. Thank you for sharing.
Your daughter is so cute. By having her there helping. She may start liking some raw food. Its good for her.
Going/trying the raw vegan 🌱 diet doesn’t have to be expensive! I’m definitely planning on doing a video like this ☺️💃🏽
It doesn't you're right !!! That's awesome 👏 I will check it out ! I am going to do another one like this asap too !! 💖
@@GillianBerry Yes please do and awesome! 👏🏾 Can’t wait to see it! 💃🏽
@@BloomWithBlossom 😁
i have to say, i was very surprised when i saw you wearing a mask. i just made certain assumptions based off of your diet/lifestyle, it's always cool when those are challenged! love your channel.
Hey!! It was the only way i was allowed to film in the store....C was still happening here in toronto when I filmed the video and I had to oblige by their rules in order to film:)
Im going to try the soaked lentils!
they are great!
I’m noticing that many vegan channels are outside the US
I think a lot are in the US too
most ppl I interview are in the US ❤️
Unfortunately You have to Sprout chickpeas or any beans For 4-5 days minimum.
Please do your research and watch this video! ua-cam.com/video/l1-xQ_Ktvws/v-deo.html
Also many videos and people in the industry have shown me you don't plus I do this myself and they make me feel amazing so from
my own experience also it is fine !!
Thank you for the video
Unfortunately where I live in southern Western Australia there are no cheap places to buy stuff. The one farmers market is as, if not more, expensive that the supermarkets which are very pricey. And the weather/our section isn’t too conducive to growing stuff. All my last lot of lettuce and coriander went to seed before forming anything worthwhile. Makes being healthy very difficult.😢
I definitely need this because I just spent $130 just for one week. The first time I did it I spent about $90 for one week.
it's ok you're worth it !! if it's healthy food don't feel bad about spending
it's an investment in You !
@@GillianBerry if I can’t afford 50$ a week though?
Dang. Mangoes are $4.99 a lb. In Hawaii. Even tho there are mango trees everywhere. Majority are from Mexico and SEA! Zucchini’s likely to be gmo. Everything looks great.
Loved this omg 😍😍😍
