Monsoon's pivoting weapon system is genius

@@redberries8039 definitely British invasion this year!
@@aldrinmilespartosa1578 well ...we've had a lot of practice (at invasions) :)
Tom Brewster's driving was absolutely flawless. He fearlessly stayed on Cobalt, did some subtle defensive manoeuvres and found the right angles to attack with Monsoon's better reach. A thoroughly deserved win.
Yeah, his defensive maneuvers were quite smart. When he was about to get smashed into the screws by Cobalt's front end, he spun away at the last possible second and avoided a thrashing. Very impressive.
@@SkinnySacc Yea those were really the only two times I was very worried about Monsoon losing. As the worst type of hit you can take from a vertical weapon is one where you get hit into the wall or screws first and then the weapon connects as so much more force in those hits seeing how it has nowhere to release when your against the wall. I mean that was how Cobalt split Ghost Raptor in half and then just last week he saw that type of hit from Witch Doctor completely bend and rip apart the frame of Jackpot.
Pushing them into the wall was really the only way Cobalt was gonna connect with a good hit. As due to Monsoons body being hinged it meant even when Cobalt got it's forks under them they would just lift up and keep Monsoons wheels on the ground so Cobalt was never able to get the weapon deep enough to connect. Was crazy how precise Monsoon was with their hits. As 3 of the 4 hits they landed were to the exact same spot on Cobalt on the left side where one of the wedgelets were. Only hit they landed not to that exact spot was the 2nd hit they landed when Cobalt was tipped up.
@@SkinnySacc THAT was the moment Monsoon started to dominate the match. Cobalt was running away for much of it after.
Yea you can tell cobalts driver was panicking halfway through
So many of these fights seem to be lost before they even start. You can see it in the prefight interviews. Cobalt didn’t really see Monsoon as a potential threat, and they paid for that overconfidence.
This fight really showed how great a driver Tom Brewster is. He completely outdrove cobalt here
Yes agree now the other team feels cobalt blue 😭
The pilot definitely has skills, just kept pushing fordward
Fantastic!!
@@larsstougaard7097as do I :[
Seeing Cobalt lose is painful to watch but I’m blown away by Monsoon’s performance!
their weapon is really strong, they got lucky at first with the fact that cobalt didnt do much damage on the iniial hits, and then they got the tempo advantage
fight starts at 2:57
that's my job

And the best hit at 4:26.

Thanks!
A true dominant performance from Monsoon, its pivoting design is truly genius, and its weapon reach proved its strength in this fight. Well done @TeamMonsoon.
Little known fact, Tom Brewster has competed with this styled bot since 2017 in Robot Wars with Tauron.
@lunamelody2025 Yep, I watched the robot wars reboot when it was on TV
One of the best fought matches of all time. Both teams had their plans and it honestly could have gone both ways right up to it.
Fight between two Robot Wars teams, Monsoon’s dominant performance against Cobalt was impressive and insane, I was expecting Cobalt to take the win but again this sport keeps proving that nothing is definite.
Huge respect for Monsoon’s team for stoping attacks immediately after immobilizing Cobalt.
Yeah, something that the Cobalt team are famous for not doing in the UK.
They have a bot called Carbide in the UK Series which honestly seems much more brutal than Cobalt, but they needlessly attack when the opponent is disabled.
Absolutely showed great sportsmanship and class there. Those bots are crazy expensive and the parts are hard to come by and create. Great class by those guys.

Monsoon might not be as powerful, but it has the technical prowess and innovative design.
haven't seen tom this happy when driving tauron. And still remember when Dave was the king with Carbide.
and Tungsten, which was basically Cobalt with an axe srimech. Plus funnily enough, Cobalt was pretty much a blue Carbide in its debut, only to lose to Bombshell early on
@@Giovansbilly I think early cobalt's biggest weakness was it's asymmetrical weapon. It would get a hit, and then get launched 3 feet into the air.
Big factor in this fight was the hinged body of Monsoon. As that basically negated the ground game of Cobalt. As you can see plenty of times in this fight even when Cobalt got their forks under the body of Monsoon. All that happened is the pods of Monsoon would lift up slightly meaning they still kept their wheels on the ground which didn't allow Cobalt to push in deeper to get their weapon to connect.
And of course the other major factor was Tom's driving in this match. It's amazing that 3 of the 4 big hits that Monsoon landed were all to the exact same spot on Cobalt. The first being when they ripped off the left wedgelet of Cobalt and sent them flying. Then the 3rd hit of the match being to the exact same spot making Cobalt do a backflip. And then the 4th and final hit which did Cobalt in. The other part of the great driving was avoiding the few times Cobalt had a chance to land a major hit. The first being at the very start when Cobalt had a chance as the backside of Monsoon but Tom Gyro escaped the hit. And then a bit later when Cobalt was pushing them into the screws which might have resulted in a KO hit for Cobalt but Tom reversed and turned out of it right before Cobalt could get them into the screws. Which then resulted in Monsoon landing the first big hit.
Ripperoni vs Black dragon was a war of attrition.
This was a much more technical fight and the quality of driving being showcased was brilliant.
Both fights were all time classics.
It's honestly strange to see a robot like Cobalt thats usually so opressive to it's oponent lose so concisely. Amazing work from Monsoon.
Also it was nice to feel like Robot Wars was back briefly. Closest we're ever going to get to Tauron vs Carbide!
I mean to be fair, a concise victory is pretty much one of the few victories you can have against a bot like cobalt
Monsoon really earned that win. At first it seemed like Cobalt was going to win but then suddenly Monsoon landed hit after hit, what a fight!
Nothing has hit Cobalt like that since Minotaur in 2019, even their rematch this year was all Cobalt until the end of the match. Monsoon is undisputedly the king of the Brits this year, what a win for Tom and the team! Exceptional driving!!!
IIRC the hit you are talking about (where Cobalt flies way up in the air) was actually Cobalt's disc hitting the metal edge of the arena and propelling itself up in the air.
@@KUTProductions Yeah, I guess so actually. So Cobalt has never been touched like this until now
@World of Woodrow endgame also delivered a massive KO shot against cobalt in 2019
@@ryanbates3319 Without the footage in front of me, if that was the one in the corner against the rail that put Cobalt OOTA it was the same thing.
MONSOOOOON! What a result and fight!
95% of the teams predicted a Cobalt win too, and tbh I didn't expect a Monsoon win. Love the team!
Monsoon vs Sawblaze will be some battle!
Fun fact:Monsoon vs sawblaze is actually a rematch of their fight in 2018. Monsoon won that one.
Fun fact: 20 people were asked who would win this fight and the only one who predicted Monsoon winning the fight was Craig Danby who is the 5% on that pie chart.
Bet he felt great after that@@ThomasFisher-jr6bn
@@ThomasFisher-jr6bn That's the guy from Slammow right?
@@phantominway Yep.
Monsoon has a very cool design concept with its' vertical turning axis. I also like the crew!
One of the best fights of that season.
Greetings from Germany
I can’t wait for a rematch between monsoon and sawblaze this week!
Finish what you almost got done sawblaze!
I'm both stunned and amazed by Monsoon's big win over Cobalt. What a fight! That shows us we'll never know what'll happen in the Battle Box.
Hope they go all the way! Monsooooooooon!
This was one of the first fights i saw when i was there live and ive been waiting to see it since
As an OG fan of monsoon I'm surprised that people forgot how powerful monsoon is it's the OG Uppercut from UK. But as for cobalt they need to add just a spring on the forks like what team endgame did to prevent it from flopping upwards I hope both team returns on the next season
Yeah i saw that spring on endgame on one of the videos from the scorpios channel and i'm still wondering why more teams don't do it. Maybe it will push it up too much but idk.
I felt like I was watching Robot Wars for a bit here. Given the drivers here competed on that show. Dave & Sam with Carbide, Tom with Tauron. How far has Tom come.
Yeah Monsoons team is made up of loads people from Robot Wars, Tim is from team Concussion, Rory Mangles is from team nuts & Sarah is from the alien in original robot wars
Respect to Monsoon for not going in for a hit once Cobalt was stuck.
Could've easily caused a lot of expensive damage but held back.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Good sportmanship chaps!
Beyond being good sportsmanship, there are practical reasons for not doing so. I've seen Tombstone destroy itself on the last hit of a fight, Ray still won but rather than a bit of maintenance to prep for the next round the team was looking at a complete teardown and rebuild.
Top Driving from both Sides, Fantastic Fight , > Thank You , sod it, I`m watching this again and again
Cobalt has to be proud of their season even though it comes to an end today
Yeah its a great bot
@@rrbc_robotix_2111 I know it hits hard, but at this point I don't think it's a nut contender unfortunately. It must end fights especially quickly due to how its self righting and wedge work or else it'll more often lose in a dragged out fight when it loses the wedgelets or the weapon gives up. And BB bots are more competitive than King of Bots robots, since Tungsten won in a KOB spinoff despite having a weaker weapon and an axe that actually didn't right the bot as good as the weapon itself
ME AT THE START OF THE FIGHT: "Yeah, Monsoon... you're gonna die.... a lot.
MID FIGHT: "OH HELLO! This is probably the best fight Monsoon could put against Cobalt!"
END OF THE FIGHT: "WOOOOAAAAAHHH! MONSOOOOOOOOOOOOON!"
So glad Monsoon is back! Put up great fights even when those fights turned out to be losses, it's much zippier across the floor, and this is probably the fight that finally shows some of the advantages of that pivoting weapon.
Also can't wait for Sawblaze vs Monsoon. The original fight that Jameson talks about from 2018 is one of my favourites!
What a great fight. Feels like modern Robot Wars
Thank you to the people that put the fight start timestamps in your comments. They're the first thing I look for when these clips get uploaded.
Monsoon's larger weapon made all the difference.
Monsoon showing that it is a top class robot and with the subtle design changs and tom brewsters driving its a good pick to win the giant nut
Cobalt’s team was overly confident “I think we can defeat Monsoon fairly easily” There is no greater pleasure to see humble and focused team taking on smug 🧐incumbents
I feel bad for Cobalt. It has the most destructive weapon this year but it's downfall came down to Monsoon's wedgelet design.
Same, but it's weapon is just too high on the bot, if he loses his wedgelets it's done. No chance of hitting anything
And it has no srimech. A robot’s biggest weakness.
@@Max34557 It's not "too high", it's there for a reason. If it came frontally it'd lose out on the megahits and basically be every other vert.
@@xtheamazingax It does have a self righter, the weapon itself. If the weapon is dead, the bot is dead anyway with hwo it's set up.
@@Retrosicotte so basically it's minmaxed in the sense that it must quickly destroy it's opponent or else it will lose in a dragged out fight?
I don't know what was more impressive, the fight or the sportsmanship.
I underestimated the forks on Monsoon
A moment of silence for all the brackets that imploded after this fight.
F
That was a great battle. The level of engagement from both bots was awesome, the driving was on point and the best part was the hits were HARD.
Awesome fight! So intense! And Monsoon getting the win was just icing on the cake! 😊
For the non-regular viewers, this upset is massive because Cobalt was a major favorite to win the entire tournament.
Think this was like the worst possible match up for them. Would easily put them as a favorite against pretty much every other bot in the field other than maybe Hydra, Huge and Endgame. Not including Riptide as I would favor Cobalt in that fight as the design of Cobalt doesn't leave much of anything for Riptide to catch so head to head hits with basically be weapon to weapon and with the position of Cobalt's weapon I think they would have the upperhand in those hits.
Reason this was such a poor match up for them is due to Monsoons hinged body. As it meant even when Cobalt got it's forks under Monsoon the pods would just left up while keeping their tires on the ground. Meaning that Cobalt was unable to push their weapon into Monsoon. So only way they were gonna land hits was either by getting around to the back or sides of Monsoon which Tom didn't allow with his driving. And the only other ways they could land hits is if they built up a head of steam first which only happened once for a minor hit. Or of they pushed Monsoon into the wall first allowing them to easily push the weapon into Monsoon. I mean they had two chances to do just that but first Monsoon reversed and turned away right before getting pushed into the screws. And the 2nd time Cobalt ended up hitting the weapon of Monsoon right before hitting the screws which allowed Monsoon to bounce away which seconds later resulted in them taking off one of the long forks on Cobalt.
Craig danby was the 5 % vote in the pits that picked monsoon as he was next to monsoon in the pits
great result for them.
(i also had cobalt to win)
Cobold + Cobalt = Cobolt
Green + GrayMetal = GreenMetal
What a play on words. Nifty.
Monsoon low ground wins because the entire weight of the weapon frame was pointing towards the ground
Such a good fight. Monsoon is a serious bot with a serious driver.
I think a lot of peoples predictions were busted by this fight 💀
Ikr. Thankfully i didnt predict them winning everything
Not really...? Sawblaze would have been the favourite regardless of this match outcome
Including me.
I feel bad for those who bet on these. Watch them lose a lot of money on this upset.
@@gionniblood Last time Sawblaze fought Monsoon it got completely destroyed. I must admit I was thinking Sawblaze would take it this time, but after this display I'm not sure anymore!
Awh yeah, biggest upset of the night and a proper outing for Monsoon's true potential. It's been hitting absurdly hard in every fight, the pivoting chassis presents a small target and Tom's driving is on point so in retrospect this win shouldn't be a total surprise. Cobalt has been an absolute monster since it was introduced and I've been rooting for Dave and Sam to be Triple Crown legends, but Cobalt has definite shortfalls in its design that a long-reaching vert like Monsoon can exploit.
Cobalt could still technically get a Triple Crown by winning Champions 2.
@@ThomasFisher-jr6bn Now that you mentioned it, I just remembered the team didn't get the Chinese crown from KOB, but its spinoff, TIFR

Love the sportsmanship and mutual respect between teams.
It was never going to be easy to decide between the 2. Enough to give you a concussion.
One of the biggest suprises this series, I couldn't see Monsoon stand a chance, but those forks as well the reach of the weapon really did a number on Cobalt. Not saying Cobalt is bad, I love it, but Monsoon made it look very average.
So happy they pulled off the win.
I always love seeing both teams congratulating each other after the fight, 10/10 fught.
The fact that they took out a legend like cobalt that's gotta put EVERYONE on notice on the pits in the stands and all who watch from home or the arena monsoon has arrived and it's not here to play around careful you might get swept away by the crushing tidal wave of destruction I truly believe they can make a play for the giant knut watch out they are coming for everyone

Good fight!
Moonsoon derserved to win..!
Man, if I were with Monsoon, I would be so tempted to be strutting around the pits, laughing at the 95% who doubted my power.
This fight was amazing and while I admittedly had Cobalt seen as the winner by a slight margin, this fight really could've gone either way!
So many fights were worth being FOTW, but this and the Black Dragon x Ripperoni fight were definitely huge highlights here! Glad both were put up for all to see!
According to Tom on the Robocast podcast of the 20 people who were asked about the fight it was his pit neighbour, Craig Danby, the driver of Slammow who predicted a Monsoon win

Cobalt tries to bring bots to its weapon. Monsoon brings its weapon to bots. Beyond that, driving and maneuverability are always so, so important. You have to apply your weapon, you have to get the angle, you have to be able to press your advantage. When you hit, you need to be able to hit again before the other bot recovers.
