I am nearly 28 and I can proudly say Haruka's section is one of the only things I like about Yakuza 5. It's the only mainline title that I groan at. I think it's Saejima's hunting thing and the chicken racing in Shinadas part mixed with the enemy encounter rate. Idk I just kinda hate Y5.

As a huge fan of both Yakuza and AC this game mode was amazing. As an added note, in the main game you can buy some DIYs from different stores. You can also recruit people standing around to be visitors (and even people from the main story). Also Gachapin and Mukku are actually real mascots from a Japanese TV show. Gachapin even has a vocaloid made from him called Gachapoid, so that's interesting. (Considering Sega makes Yakuza and Hatsune Miku herself has shown up in these games, we can say that Yakuza and Vocaloid lore are connected 😂.) Plus, aside from the AC and Pokemon modes, 7 had a Mario Kart mode too. Someone at RGG Studios really loves Nintendo.

As both an Animal Crossing fan and a Yakuza fan I love seeing how they merged. Plus hearing about Animal Crossing fans experiencing Dondoko Island and the first few chapters of IW is pretty funny to me. You come for the goofy stuff, stay for the heartbreak. Or just only play Dondoko Island for like 15+ hours straight. I may or may not have done that.

  • @CamperCarl00

Just going to point out and clarify some stuff concerning this mode:
*1)* The combat in question is nothing like that of the previous entries, which is probably because it's catering to an audience that never played those games. Time is short per day on the island, so similarly everything you do within that limited time frame needs to be streamlined. Probably for the best that none of the enemies can block, honestly.
*2)* Satisfaction is gauged by what is currently on the island and shares a stat with livability. This works as a basic check to make sure your island has stuff on it before unlocking more zones. Livability strictly has to do with Ichiban’s house and stuffing it with enough stuff will allow you to increase your HP on certain milestones.
*3)* Popularity can be increased by doing pretty much anything and serves as the gate preventing you from just standing outside your house for the whole day and progressing. Far as I know, you can’t really lose points in this stat, so you will eventually reach what you need for progression.
*4)* Dokobucks are separate from the main game’s economy, and are best earned via the daily goals. You can also pretty much sell any fish/bugs you get a lump sum as well. This currency is only used for tool upgrades, main/guest house renovations, island expansion. If you’re placing enough stuff to suck the wealth out of your guests then you shouldn’t have a problem getting money.
*5)* Message bottles are found on the 3 beaches and in the two secret areas of the map. These respawn every day and are the only way to get DIY certain recipes.
*6)* When placing items objectively, you need to have them accessible via one of the main or buildable paths. This allows guests to “inspect” the item, allowing for certain DIY building effects to go off.
*7)* There are 3 main things to farm from guests inspecting buildings. First, is Dokobucks which will be added to your account in real time. Second, is Satisfaction, which increases the guest’s own satisfaction, leading to a higher mood and a better end result after the tour. Lastly, certain items can be used to increase your popularity, a stat that has no use once you’ve done all of the main missions.
*8)* Building Talent is incredibly easy to max out, and usually serves as a constant flow of new recipes to make DIY furniture out of.
*9)* If you prefer other styles of fishing, there’s a bunch of fishing spots in Hawaii and Japan where you can net valuable resources. Additionally, there’s a Pro Bass catcher in the arcade which holds a closer resemblance to the fishing minigame in 3. 4, and 5. Once again though, since everything is timed fishing needs to be really streamlined, you can’t spend 3 minutes trying to catch one legendary fish in a mode where each day is measured in minutes.
*10)* The farming is best used to help develop Sujimon while making money. Each day you can “greet” them, increasing their trust, a stat that would usually require you to use them in battle. Otherwise, trash collection is a great way to get large sums of any resources you haven’t been able to obtain easily.
*11)* Souvenirs can be used to give large satisfaction boosts to guests every day during their tour. Additionally, using the ingredients from Dondoko farm, you can make healing items. Not sure why Tim thinks this is “missing” you just have to spend dokobucks to research it first.
*12)* Visiting other player’s islands give you miles which are used to unlock online ID plate customizations. Additionally, it’s a way for you to do pseudo Sujimon VS battles. While the opponent is technically a computer, it still uses that player’s uploaded team.
*13)* Campfires are essential towards developing an optimized island. The goal is to max out everyone’s affection without doing anything more than greeting and the campfire so you don’t have to waste resources on souvenirs.
All in all, it's a great mode, but one that heavily benefits and is the benefactor of the main game. There are a lot of guests and DIY recipes found outside of the island, and pretty much all of the rewards are suited for progressing the sujimon or main game mode. I heavily suggest giving Infinite Wealth a try even if you're not into RPGs because the game has so many awesome pieces of side content that can almost stand on their own as experiences.

also worth mentioning is that throughout the entire mode you earn money for the main game.
aswell as the 5* reward which is just rediculously strong.
infinite wealth is just kinda nuts with how much it has. we got
    an entire animal crossing mode
an intire mini pokemon game, complete with save scummable gacha (ingame money dont panic)
a buttload of minigames including straight up arcade ports of games (spike out sucks tho im sorry)
and all of that are just side things to the really good turn based rpg which probably takes like 70-108 hours depending on how much side stuff you actually do. more if you hunt the completion list

8:40 the Tanuki thing is actually something cultural in Japan, which Tom Nook is also based on. I believe they made the fishing style in Dondoko Island harpoon-style because in the main game there is already a normal fishing minigame. Also one of Yakuza's major appeals is the minigames and each game features about 2-3 very extensive minigames like this one, so I think you underestimate how many yakuza fans genuinely enjoy them

It's interesting to see how this diverges from Animal Crossing, because the way you described the mechanics was really bringing me back to the Theme franchise by Bullfrog (mostly the original Theme Park, but also the sequels and a bit of Theme Hospital).
Something about the framing of the mode as a resort where you're thinking about profits and having the guests be more transient, with particular requirements to fulfil (a bit like how you needed to have certain equipment to treat patients in Theme Hospital) just put me in mind of those games (even down to setting up places for people to buy drinks, though I'm guessing that you can't over-salt the food to make people buy more drinks, or do what I did and put the shops outside next to the bus stop so that the AI for the guests gets tricked into missing their ride home and they go back through the park a second time).

The Fighting part of Dondoko Island was terrible compared to the original Yakuza Games that had more brawler based combat. This one felt much more terrible, slow and janky. It really surprised me because RGG usually can do figthing much better. This one instead was just really damn terrible.
And if it comes to sidecontent, Yakuza Games always went all in on that. In Yakuza 6 as example you had a whole fleshed out Baseball Manager in which you build a team and had them play against other teams. You had Cabaret Minigames in Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 2 which also where amazing. you had a monopoly like game in Yakuza 0. Also some kind of Hotwheels Game where you could build your own racing car and race against other characters in the game which was a lot of fun to build the perfect car for each course and so much more...
They even included the full games Virtua Fighter 5 and PuyoPuyo in Yakuza 6 to play. So you basically got 4 games in Yakuza 6 with the main game, the baseball manager and Virtua Fighter 5 and PuyoPuyo

  • @Infernus250

I have to mention that while this is a sequel to Yakuza 7, there are multiple points where the game offers to remind you of what happened in the previous game in both optional segments and in some parts of the main story's dialogue. There is also dialogue at some points (which I wont spoil) which calls back to earlier games as far back as the first one, and does a good job explaining context there. Its not a complete perfect retelling but you do get a considerable amount of context to the previous entries in the series. For those who havent started playing yet I would DEFINITELY play these games as theyre really good!

Also when you progress through the main story and substories you get some of the story characters as guests for your island which is pretty cool.

@@TheShyWhiteMage yeah, the closest approximation would be yah-koo-zah. The one thing i do love about studying Japanese is the vowel sounds are consistent. It doesn’t change like it does in English.

I'm cringing so hard. "so you don't have to" and "you have to get through 13 hours" is insanely disrespectful to say. And why do you end your sentences with a weird inflection? It's annoying as hell.
