I live in a condo, I don’t have 6600$ laying around to get my AC replaced so I put a window unit in against My HOA approval. Now I gotta have a hearing and they prolly gonna make me remove it. And next month is August. So I thought what if I put in the fireplace then I came across ur video, and I see that it is possible. Lol thanks!!!
i cut a small notch in the bottom to run the cord through the outlet on the bottom instead of going across! FL summer with no AC and a fireplace i never use. I had an idea to use the fireplace for a window unit and so glad too see it was possible!!
Make sure fireplace vent is open! Condensation goes into pan inside unit. If real humid it may overfill. Maybe put a pan underneath it and keep an eye on it until you know what ur climate does? All hot air vents up the chimney. Hope that helps?
Drip pan inside units. They can overflow in humid environments. Never had that problem until I took unit out and it tilted sideways and spilled on my foot. 🤔😎
I just vented my portable A/C unit into our bedroom fireplace. I have a 1960s ranch home with a clay flue. Natural draft pulls the warm air up and out. Just use it a one or two weeks per year during heat waves in Southern California, so I'm not worried about moisture problems.
Thanks Jeff. I live in a rancher built in 56. Every window in this house tilts out and has no possible way to mount a a/c. I thought if I could find a way to vent the exhaust of one of my window units. I looked at my fire place and said, What if? Glad to know great minds think alike.
make sure your damper is open!! I would use a seal on the inside of wood attached along outer edge of wood like a rubber or foam one, look for a winterize one for your door for maximum efficiency.. also make a frame of 2x4 to secure AC unit to so vibration does not damage it. you can easily put a plastic tray under the rear if you are afraid of water draining..
My Ac compressor keep sutting off - overheating - flue is open in my case it will need additional fan to get out hot air. Fan in back of this window ac is not able cool down ac enough in fireplace.
It seems like something may be wrong with unit? With flue open there should be ample air flow from unit and hot air rises. Mine just got hot, never tripped, and didn't blow cool air when my flue was closed. I have no comments on your scenario. Got to be something simple!? Is it a new unit? Does it vent through a brick chimney or a stove pipe? Two story rise? Update me when you figure it out and you will. Dangit! Good luck!
Do you have a big unit? How many K's? Does unit fill up your whole firebox? Might try pulling unit back away a few inches so it has room to breathe and see if that helps? I'm stumped...
@@pyro8455 Its new small unit 5000btu cheap one so I didn't expected any mirracles .I put big fan above ac .It was little helpful now cool air last longer but still after one hour compressor overheats and stop cooling.
does fireplace need to be swept..cause i cleaned out the ashes but i swept the side walls and alot od black powder came down...i dont no if thats safe to leave like that
+Nancy O Just figure that warm moist air is going up your chimney and the loose ash will fall on top of unit. I always have a little when I remove end of summer. Not sure what you mean about safe?
Nancy O You may have too many things running on that circuit! Do you have a lot of things plugged in? 15 or 20 AMP Breaker? Please have someone look at for you. Something is not right?
I added a blower fan and mounted it above the AC unit to exhaust the heat coming off the AC unit

Right on! Glad to hear that! Let me know how it goes.✌💚😎
Jeff Parker Hey Mr. Parker I just noticed I have a gas fireplace do you think it would still work?
Please call me Jeff. As long as you can vent the hot air from AC I think it will. Make sure damper is open!
Jeff Parker Thank You Jeff!😉😉
Thank you and sure hope it works!✌💚😎

Right in dude! FL is humid so you may have more condensation. Let me know, ok?
Jeff Parker what would help in the long run? A small fan blowing on the unit?

What do you do about the dripping condensation?
Drip pan inside units. They can overflow in humid environments. Never had that problem until I took unit out and it tilted sideways and spilled on my foot. 🤔😎

My damper is stuck and wont open, it has to be open?...
Very Cool
Kevin Naderi It really helps alot!!! Pretty Cool is right!

Brick or stove pipe flue? Does ac have room around it? What does AC instructions say to do if unit keeps tripping? Maybe bad unit???

Please make sure fireplace flue is open to let HOT air out!
Nancy O

let me know what you find out? I hope it's something simple!
Can i do this same procedure with a fire placr that was used for propane? Will it overheat and cause fire? I just did same thing with ac unit.
With an extension cord I plugged mine into where my old central AC unit plugged into in the garage.
Buy a split air ,
What's a split air?🤔
its not a good way u still will have heat and the air conditionar water will fall
That why you open the Flue OPEN and GET A DRIP pan,
