Who's with me in 2022! Billy Squier still rocks!! One guy, one guitar making tons of hit songs! I was in high school in the 80's. This brings back great memories with my friends! Loved him then, still love him!! He was so underrated!!
So there I was, 10th grade… 1981, laying in bed listening to 102.5 WDVE outta Pittsburgh … At night they had a call in survey of songs called Smash or Trash … Stroke me comes on the radio… people call in and vote on the song.. either it’s a smash or trash… for the next week or so everyone in school was talking about the song, at that time we couldn’t believe that was on the radio… I’ve been a fan of Billy and his music ever since
I am with you in 2024.. In high school he was my first rock concert. Def Lepard opened for him. Listening to this. Great song in the middle of the night and makes it easier to hear it do well.described
Jeff Golub shredding the solos!!! Such an underrated guitarist who has played with so many people including Rod Stewart. Died way too young. Check out his other solo jazz music. It's excellent !!
The first time I ever heard of him seen him open for Z Z Top just blew me away absolutely 🌹💕💙 then he started getting airplay so the second time he opened for Def Leppard absolutely 🌹🌹💕💙
I went to this concert at cobo in Detroit my hometown . It was a great concert cobo had the best sound I seen many bands there VH -Bob Seiger Kiss just to name a few.
Great version of Lonely is the Night. Growing up in Sydney, Australia I loved this type of rock. Unfortunately, the lack of MTV, limited pop shows that only played and were anti-guitar based rock. Only Foreigner received regular airplay and even then the ballads. I remember The Stroke by Billy Swuire as it was a Top 3 nationwide hit. I didn't hear Lonely Is the Night until years ago and was incorrectly advised that it was a Piper song.
It's the same concert. At 8:43 you can see where he went off to switch guitars. No doubt for the next song which was "In The "Dark". This concert was filmed in Detroit in December 1982. You can this concert online and the company that put out the DVD says it's from 1983, hence all the videos uploaded on You Tube with that date. But it's wrong. Just a tidbit for you
The Les Paul Billy is using is a '58...and it was stolen in New York at the Power Station Recording Studio. Some think (including me) that it was an inside job. It's been about 30 years since it was stolen and Billy has offered to buy it back at full retail value (approx. $250,000), no questions asked and so far it hasn't come up.
He does have another 58 and 59 burst according to an interview I read recently but also said the one used here and later stolen was better than his current ones. I wonder if the vintage special Jeff is using is Billy’s old one he used on Don’t Say No.
Love this song and the stroke is a good one, but guy killed his career with the video for rock me tonite. It wasn’t that great a song imo, but the video was just him prancing around. Granted rock clothes started with the spandex in his day, but he’s wearing a tied up belly shirt in that video lol. The early days of mtv and music videos many were bad but his took the cake.
Interesting you bring up Zeppelin ... I believe Squier stole from Zeppelin's rendition of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" to create the opening riff for "Lonely Is The Night." But I also believe "Lonely Is The Night" is a better song than "Nobody's Fault." Yes, it's interesting how these things come about ...!
wow good ear I think you're right. I mean I know you're right, i think a lot of artist borrow but I'm not sure but maybe you know, I mean I'ts one thing to borrow and another thing to out right steal and I don't know if it's true or not, but I was told Zepplen in more then one incident, Zepplen actually stole for example "When the Levy breaks" and "whole lotta Love" I'm not trying to take anything away from Led Zeppen I think they are the greatest band of all time hands down. but I think you know what I'm talking about so please respond to this "did they or didn't they" I've argued this with a couple friend of mine and I could use your opinion on this
One horrible video destroyed his career. Who ever talked him into doing that video should have their head examined. But it was his final decision in the end so it falls on him basically. He was known for being a guitar wiz. After that video he was known for doing arobics in tights.
Oh geez. A performer with a bit of ego and arrogance. Sorry pal. All the great ones had to have that self-confidence, or else they're performing their entire lives in the local dive!
Billy Squier - so underrated.....
Underrated? He was about as big as they get in 83? He makes a ton of money off his catalog and chooses not to Tour or write new material
Playin4Keeps i believe the aging of his music compared to others is what she is referring to
Agreed, as is Bobby Chouinard , that crazy, amazing drummer behind the kit. Huge influence on my drumming, nowhere near as good as him but fun trying.

Hello Rock and Roll hall fame!!!! Squier deserves to be in!!!!!
July 2024 right here 😊🤘🤘
I go absolutely crazy for this song! This is just a timeless masterpiece.
• Mickey Van Jones • masterpiece??? Lol. What a dork
I do too!! Its absolute fucking ROCK🤘🏿❤.
And only a fucking dork would disagree that it's a masterpiece
@@dougdavis8986 it IS a masterpiece, foo
@@phillynott2459 : lol. I am sure Bach won't be losing any sleep.
I like the song but if you listed the top 1000 songs of all time it would not be on the list. Therefore, not a masterpiece!
His vocals were killin it....we were all feeling it.
His vocals are EVERY bit as great live as in the studio. Billy Squire rules!!!

Billy Squier is our spirit animal!
Dam good guitar rock .
So wish he would’ve toured in the past 20 years. Don’t Say No is a masterpiece.
He did do a small tour in 2009, was awesome!!!
Love the “heartbreaker” solo tease in the beginning
Nothing like being 47 yrs old smoking a bowl blasting this jam on ur hammock by your swimming pool in Phoenix AZ.

Yep!
Gilbert too.
You had me at bowl ...lol...😊 What in yours...
Billy Squier opened for Queen in the 80s @ Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto 🇨🇦.. great memory 4 a $20 ticket
Billy Squier deserves more recognition 😎🤟
Especially for the way he can tear open a t-shirt 😆

This was the first vinyl I owned at age 8. I learned guitar playing along - every song on this album is embedded in my DNA.
Please tour Billy Squier!!! Would pay through the nose for this concert in NorCal!!! Hope you’re reading this Billy!!! Miss your genius man…
1981. I graduated High school 1980. That was the greatest generation to grow up in. ❤
Just one of the best
Amazing this dude is so talented
One of the few artists I regret never seeing live.
One of the most gifted talents of the Guitar!
This song used to always be played during intermission at Hershey Bears hockey games and it fuckin ROCKS!!!!!
Amazing talent.....
Love rocking to this song!!!! The bomb🎉
I was there!

Always like billy Squire, even after "the video". Still listen to him!

Nazareth opened up for him at that show.
Word. No one can sing it like Billy. lol love the song!
Looked sooo good and sounded phenomenal!
Best song that Led Zep never wrote 👍🏻
Although it sounds like Ramble On at times
Too bad they couldn't sing it as this.
Saw Billy as support for Whitesnake at Glasgow Apollo - good stuff
He loves ROCK&ROLL and thats all that matters too me love playing drums to this guy
Yes a fine as hell. U rock Billy.
Hes gay as hell too! I saw him in probably 84, before he came out! But still, good music!
@@michaelhorn9114 He has been married since 2001 to a woman
STILL THE EPITOME OF COOL!
A real rock star.!
Yes yes yes reel rok star
Thanks Tidal for helping me to find this gem.
June 18th 2022. Still Rockn IT with this one
Hell yeah Billy! Rock on bruh
This man was. A genius.
Red is my favorite color!
Idem
Sammy Hagar likes Red also
I wonder if Sammy and Billy ever toured together. That would be a rockin' night!

The amazing Jeff Golub - lead guitar. Check out his own music with Avenue Blue and solo. You'll love it.
Thanks for this one!
Best cut I could find on UA-cam. 👍
I saw Billy at Reading Festival in 81... he rocked
The guy can play good music don't know what he up too these days not playing music to bad.
This is badass
Nothing better than a les Paul plugged into a Marshall amp
59 LP baby!!!!
Still rocking this in 2022.. Classic..

Yooo!!!! Bad ass Drummer and keyboardist
Jeff Golub bringin' it 🎸
Hi Bury ^.^ Love this tune~❤
Fabuloso
3:14 Man they were really inspired by Queen, Freddie’s vocals, and Brian May’s legendary guitar picking skills. I wish they’d just come back.
Saw this tour in Philadelphia and loved all 3 bands. Great night of music
I'd like to hear Rush do this song.
Why? Squire does it the best.
I’m just fine with Squires sick ass version!
I would've rather heard prime zeppelin rip it.
2023 “my mind is still not my own”
HOMIE WAS SO ON
August 2024
Same!
The Squier band without Kenny Aaronson is a totally different rhythm section. Bobby and Doug didn't jell too well.
Just imagine how far he’d have gone minus the pink scarf
I saw Billy Squier with Ratt as the opening act. He was 1000% better than Ratt, even though we went to see Ratt.
He switched guitars at the very end? He had a sunburst Les Paul the whole song and then had a black and white Strat at the end. Weird. 8:39
Echo Charlie different concerts
Echo Charlie pretty sure while the lead guitarist finished up the song he went behind his amp stack and strapped on the fender.
Michael Walker normally they film 2 concerts or maybe 3 depending on the dates to see which one was good and put it on the dvd

Can you name the band Billy Squire was in during the 70’s?
Piper

Supernatural
Definetely Zeppelin vibe
He didn't sound like Robert Plant to me.
This song does sound Zepplin-esque , but not the vocals. Anyone else?
Came for the song but the video underwhelming
Hear this song in GTA so came here
I want whatever the keyboard player is taking.
Kinda like Eddie and Plant put together?
I would say more like page and plant but either way it's a fair assessment
Seen him with rat
All the band members look like Lars from Metallica. Is this some AI joke?

He really butchered his own song
Guitar out of tune.
Great Pure Hard Rock Song. I always thought it was Led Zeppelin
