My wife gets so pissed when I talk about the good Ole days but she just can't understand. She was born in 84 and our days were dying out by 1990
When I heard this song I was 17! My mind exploded and I knew I had landed! My confidence in myself went off the charts and from this moment forward I knew there was nothing I couldn’t do! Don’t let anyone ever tell you your not good enough! If you want it bad enough, it will happen! Guaranteed!!
As a GenX kid that grew up in the 80s and 90s I can honestly say that this song was badass in it's day and Bill Squire was underrated and under-appreciated.
Saw Squire open for Blue Oyster Cult at the Cow Palace in '79 and again a week or two later, I saw him open for Todd Rungren. They all did an amazing job. I feel blessed and honored to be able to see them at their prime.
Grew up listening to his music in my early teens at the skating rink and into high school rocking it at max volume in my truck. It never gets old!!!!! Love it just like I was back in my teens 😎
Life isn't easy from the singular side Down in the hole some emotions are hard to hide It's your decision, it's the chance that you take It's on your head, it's a habit that's hard to break Do you need a friend, would you tell no lies Would you take me in, are you lonely in the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark You never listen to the voices inside They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide You're never sure if the illusion is real You pinch yourself but the memories are all you feel Can you break away from your alibies Can you make a play, will you meet me in the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark, ah ah ah Don'tcha need me, hey, hey Don'tcha need me, oh yea Don'tcha need me, hey, hey Don'tcha need me, oh yea You take no interest, no opinion's to dear You make the rounds and you try to be so sincere You guard your hopes and you pocket your dreams You'd trade it all to avoid an unpleasant scene Can you face the fire when you see me there Can you feel the fire, will you love me in the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark In the dark, ah ah ah ah
This song and the stroke got my whole soccer team fired up in the 80's. Then blasting it in my Trans Am to look for chicks was some of the best memories of that time. 40 years my kids play it for my grandkids to fire them up before their sporting events.
This cat HAD REAL FN TALENT. To sing, great ballads and play guitar is almost a lost art . I'm proud of the fact he didn't bend over for the producers and idiots and kept it real. I STILL have 3 of his albums and listen to them, this many years later..take care BILLY
This is one of my favorite rock songs of all time. The lyrics and the music, and of course Billy's amazing vocals, I rock out hard core to this song everytime I hear it. Thank you Billy Squier for your passion.
I remember being about 17 or 18, so 91 or 92, and this guy in a badass '86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a huge sound system was blasting "The Stroke" as he pulled up to the 1 four way stop light in Kearney, MO at 92 and 33. I stood there and thought "Now that guy is freakin' cool!".... I went and bought every Billy Squire CD i could find at Camelot. Then I was the one blasting Billy Squire in my car!
Mannnnnnnnn, I freaking LOVED this song back in the day!!!! That was my middle school dayz.....now I'm 55 yrs and sharing this with my kids & THEY FREAKING LOVE IT!!!!
Grew up as a teen in the 80s listening to Billy. I bought the albums because he always had catchy songs with great guitar work. It was the guitar work that I loved.
The lyrics to this song are unreal. I fell in love with this song in 1981 when I was just a kid bouncing from foster home to foster home. I had no idea where my parents or my brothers were at the time. Lines like "Life isn't easy from the singular side, down in a hole, emotions are hard to hide". "You're never sure if the illusion is real; you pinch yourself, but the memories are all you feel". Feeling these lines so much these days. These words and emotions are so very real right now. Thank you for writing this song, Billy. I have carried it with me for years.
I am a mom of four boys and My youngest son was recently diagnosed at fourteen with severe schizoohrenia and this song seems to relate to some of the emotions I feel for him LOST in the dark 😢
Had to come back and tell you I listened to the song again right after my above comment, and I will never hear the song the same way again! And that's not a bad thing, for me, meaning now I have another association to go with this song., even though I'm sad that your misfortune resulted in my new association!! The second verse always reminded me of my older sister, as when the song was out, I was just starting to really "learn" about my sister, iykwim. This is my fave Billy song, and I love it even more now!!!
Sorry to hear that I can relate. My 26 year old has been dealing with the same thing. It's not easy at all and many people don't understand. Unless they have lived with someone with schizophrenia.. People think you can just snap out it ... But you can't 😢

My wife gets so pissed when I talk about the good Ole days but she just can't understand. She was born in 84 and our days were dying out by 1990
Me too!
I'm glad we both did
Ahh yes, the best eras for music
Yup 👍
When I heard this song I was 17! My mind exploded and I knew I had landed! My confidence in myself went off the charts and from this moment forward I knew there was nothing I couldn’t do! Don’t let anyone ever tell you your not good enough! If you want it bad enough, it will happen! Guaranteed!!
As a GenX kid that grew up in the 80s and 90s I can honestly say that this song was badass in it's day and Bill Squire was underrated and under-appreciated.
It doesn't get any better than this! What a song! Love you Billy! Thank you for this album!
What a great performer and musician. We still have him in the world, let's show Billy some love.

I have to thank my father for finding some of the greatest music I’ve ever heard in my life!!! I’m 41 and this era WAS the greatest EVER!!!!😎
Music that gives goosebumps doesn't happen much lately... Glad I picked this today!
Hello Jennifer
How are you doing?
It's nice to have you here!
Saw Squire open for Blue Oyster Cult at the Cow Palace in '79 and again a week or two later, I saw him open for Todd Rungren. They all did an amazing job. I feel blessed and honored to be able to see them at their prime.
yup saw him at the cow palace and remrmber him humping the speaker

Saw him in Huntsville Alabama back in 81 or 82. He opened up for Foreigner and blew them away! One of the best lyricist ever. Rock on Billy!
Love this song!!!!! Billy rocks!!!!! Takes me back to the 80's!!! Wish I had a time machine!!!!😎🎤🎵🎸👍

So badly underrated. Billy never got the air time he deserved.
Grew up listening to his music in my early teens at the skating rink and into high school rocking it at max volume in my truck. It never gets old!!!!! Love it just like I was back in my teens 😎
Life isn't easy from the singular side
Down in the hole some emotions are hard to hide
It's your decision, it's the chance that you take
It's on your head, it's a habit that's hard to break
Do you need a friend, would you tell no lies
Would you take me in, are you lonely in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
You never listen to the voices inside
They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide
You're never sure if the illusion is real
You pinch yourself but the memories are all you feel
Can you break away from your alibies
Can you make a play, will you meet me in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark, ah ah ah
Don'tcha need me, hey, hey
Don'tcha need me, oh yea
Don'tcha need me, hey, hey
Don'tcha need me, oh yea
You take no interest, no opinion's to dear
You make the rounds and you try to be so sincere
You guard your hopes and you pocket your dreams
You'd trade it all to avoid an unpleasant scene
Can you face the fire when you see me there
Can you feel the fire, will you love me in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark, ah ah ah ah
Thanks for the upload 🎸🎸🎸
This song and the stroke got my whole soccer team fired up in the 80's. Then blasting it in my Trans Am to look for chicks was some of the best memories of that time. 40 years my kids play it for my grandkids to fire them up before their sporting events.

One of my favorite songs.

This album got me interested in playing guitar seriously.. 40 plus years later.. I play most days. Thank you Billy. Great gift
So refreshing to hear this. Bring this sound back.
This cat HAD REAL FN TALENT. To sing, great ballads and play guitar is almost a lost art . I'm proud of the fact he didn't bend over for the producers and idiots and kept it real. I STILL have 3 of his albums and listen to them, this many years later..take care BILLY
I was born in the 60's great tunes and still listening. It's back when things made sense. Still here!!! 2024
Often overlooked and highly underrated, Billy Squier never disappoints.
This whole album is pure gold. I listened to it endlessly and still love hearing this music today.🎸
Big fan. His music is so connected to the time I really fell in love with music. So good.
This is one of my favorite rock songs of all time. The lyrics and the music, and of course Billy's amazing vocals, I rock out hard core to this song everytime I hear it. Thank you Billy Squier for your passion.
Great band, great singer, great lyrics. Love them in 2023
ROCK ON BITÇHES"¢
Billy Squire is an awesome and very underrated musician. He’s very much influenced by Led Zeppelin. 😎🔥🎸
Wow music lyrics were incredible n still r
I remember being about 17 or 18, so 91 or 92, and this guy in a badass '86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a huge sound system was blasting "The Stroke" as he pulled up to the 1 four way stop light in Kearney, MO at 92 and 33. I stood there and thought "Now that guy is freakin' cool!".... I went and bought every Billy Squire CD i could find at Camelot. Then I was the one blasting Billy Squire in my car!
When this song came out it played non stop on every rock station.. Billy is a legend .
My favorite of all Squier tune of them all. That explosive opening is just wild.
Who is listening in 2023? This song still kicks ass. Generations today should appreciate great music .

I don't want to live in a world where rock and roll doesn't include Billy Squire. This brings back memories I've long forgotten.
i had the pleasure of seeing billy and band in the day supporting queen...top concert of all time for me
The lyrics to this song are unreal.
Dudes guitar tone is ridiculous. Way under rated guitarist.
3.8 million people may disagree with you...
@@mikedavidriverayeah, I would go with his vocal skills.
He had a VERY GOOD VOICE and was a phenomenal guitar player. Your songs are still played today BILLY and stood the test of time. 80,S FOREVER.

ABSOLUTELY!!!
I am a mom of four boys and My youngest son was recently diagnosed at fourteen with severe schizoohrenia and this song seems to relate to some of the emotions I feel for him LOST in the dark 😢
Sending you love and sending up prayers for you both! I cannot imagine, really, what you both are going through!
I also lost my oldest son at 25 years old from a fentanyl drug overdose.. I can totally relate to this song
also feeling lost , lonely 🥺
@@dianeledesma3211 I'm sorry to hear of others trying to adjust to such tragedy but I hope that our outcomes are similar as well and full of love and understanding and courage and that we all find peace
Takes me back to High School.. Great memories..
Billy Squier was awesome and the first video I ever saw on MTV. "The Stroke" I wanna go back to the 80's!!!!
Thank you for the video. I was THE #1 Billy Squier Fan back in the day! I joined his fan club and staked out his hotel one time, which actually ended with me hugging him and I have a picture to prove it! The is the first time that I have watched this video in a couple of years and there are definately subtle changes from the original video...Surely some of you die-hard Billy Squier fans see what I am talking about

😁 I am. Billy is still the man.

Who's here making "who's listening" comments for easy likes? 😂
Classic rock at its finest
If I was old enough back then in 1981-1982, the 3 bands I would wanna see live are Billy, Def Leppard, and Van Halen.
Definitely me! I'm 43. This came out when I was 1yrs old! Beautiful song!!
Billy was a huge part of my teenage years!!!! 🎉I wanna go back!!
Anyone 20 years old in 1981 had this cassette blasting from speakers with 20 oz magnets out of a Pioneer Super Tuner....like me.
How about someone who was 11,and their Mom kept flipping the light switch (Turn it down!)🤣🤣🤣
She's been gone 12 years now and I still crank it up.
Sure do wish I could see the lights blink though.

This music is older than I am but I’m glad my dad introduced me to actual music!!! Props to the greatest generation.
I love his music and the way he sings and dances on stage! Great music! Still listening at 58!
So glad this was the kind of music my friends and I listened to in the 80's, sadly I don't think my children will carry this music, even though I listened to it while they were growing up. Here in November 2024.

Hello people who have an amazing music taste! Just yesterday I found Billy's music and this one is my absolute favourite. I wish more younger people like me could find his music cause it's amazing ❤❤❤
I love playing this song while driving at night on long trips. It fits so well. Billy is very underrated...
Always loved every song Billy Squire ever sang! He's a rock ledgend!
One of the greatest songwriters ever. Watch the lyrics version. Then singing and playing kick butt guitar too. This guy was super talented. Hope he’s still rockin somewhere.
Talk about time travel in my soul!! Man, I miss the 80s and the 70s❤
We all do. The 90s brought grunge.
Billy was great! I miss the 80's !
I'm 17 in Dallas Tx..cruising Forest Lane on a Friday night listening to Billy Squire ! This was 1981..great times with my gal pals ..yes we were smoking joints & drinking wine coolers....
I was there. NS high school 83
Having a Billy Squire marathon right now❤ ruled in the 80'd still rules..dancing around house old school❤
One man, one guitar, one song, one voice = the GREAT Billy Squire. No one and I mean NO ONE is / was as talented to be able to do all 3.
Imagine DLR or MJ singing, playing a Gibson, and writing great songs by himself and himself alone. No one was ever THAT great. No one.
bro, heard of tommy shaw? i love(i mean reall love) billy squire but tommy is miles above in vocal prowess and guitar skill.
you know, styx, damn yankees etc....renegade? blue collar man? too much time on my hands?

I just subscribed to this channel out of respect for Billy Squier, who rocked my formative years with this tune especially. As a connoisseur of R&R, it is a beautiful example of big smooth sound, great lyrics & rockin
Saw them in concert at a little dive bar called Hammerjacks in Baltimore, best night ever.
