I played this game in HD and wondering why people thought it was top tier graphics at the time. Seeing it through a CRT TV, it makes more sense because of the blending.
LOL What? What "blending"? what are you talking about? It had top tier ART DIRECTION to make the graphics even better than ever from it's art aesthetics of the world and characters which all still looks charming to this day! It makes complete sense when you see it from that point of view why people praise the graphics to claim it was top tier because IT WAS from the aesthetics to bring it all to life when you play it! It still looks pretty charming and pleasing on a HD tv to this day when you appreciate it all!
@Hugh Chungle I'm not "dithering" at all as I KNOW that games were made around the time of a CRT monitor but even in HDTV it still retains it's charm in a vintage kind of way if you're willing to accept the old polygons. Yeah the pre-rendered backgrounds can look strange at times for some games but this game still looks overall very charming and aesthetically pleasing. Wouldn't at all say it "ruins the depth" at all as it all still blends in pretty well in an upscaled HDTV for the most part. "and the characters look like low-poly DS models running around a renaissance painting." I kinda get what you're saying but it doesn't seem like that much of a big issue that much for me and most of others as the figures and art aesthetics still hold up overall as a whole. Not having an issue with a upgraded TV at all.

All the neighbor kids congregated for this weekly ritual, including myself. As one who only owned an N64 at the time, this was how I learned about games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Crash, Tomb Raider, etc. My favorite gaming memory.
Those days for us were the best. I really love my childhood and wouldn't change it for anything. I used to go to my friends home with my ps1 controller just to play Tekken 3 or Destruction Derby 2 together. Online gaming with friends just doesn't feel like it was when you'd be able to sit with them in the same room.

The opening jingle to this game always gives me chills and it feels very nostalgic! Love how it still looks on a CRT TV! Absolutely fantastic stuff right here! I didn't grow up playing FFVII, or any FF for that matter, and my journey with them is just starting now, but I have had PS consoles my whole life and seeing this on PS1 makes me feel something so nostalgic. Even witnessing something I never did; I still feel like I have fond memories with this game. I think that is the Magic that FF brings

I wish I had a CRT TV so I could experience exactly how it looked :( I try different shaders on the PC version but I can never be sure because it has been so long since I had an old TV... :( AAAARGH!!!! Why is it so damn hard to get a hold of these TVs today!!?? Someone needs to start making them again!
They very easy to get. Go to flea markets or just drive around neighborhoods. Garage sales. Offer up. Recently picked up a Sony Trinitron which is a holy grail of TV's. Just be warned though, a lot of CRT's... since they are getting old... have slight blurring in the corners. It's only really noticeable if text is in the corner tho. So you might have to get used to that.
Check something called 'Zomb’s Mega Bezel' - it's full shader pack for RetroArch with different screen types and realistic reflections. It's so far the best simulation of analogue signal i've found
😂 the memories. All was fine till port yuna iirc, that smoke effect on zhe chimney slowed the game to a crawl. Took me over an hour to cross the screen 😂😂😂yet i did push through. And got mad i had to do it again after saving the girl
The game has a resolution of about 320x240 pixels, displayed on a screen that is 640x480 interlaced (all NTSC TVs are of that resolution). The size of the TV, though, I don't really know.
@@jamesemery7190 HD CRT are 1080i. Most usually go up to about 1024p (sometimes 560p on a lower end)... especially if it was a CRT Monitor via VGA. You would probably be better off going for a CRT that is a 480i tv that can support 480p via Component. I have a 480p Sony Trinitron and I play ff games on ps2 via component cables... it scales the game down to 240p any ways. It looks great though. Only issue is it a flat screen... so I has VERY SLIGHT off geometry. If you want perfect geometry, perhaps invest in a curved CRT. for comparison... I have an HD CRT as well.... ps1, n64, snes, famicom, saturn, and genesis games look very bad on it. Like the pixels look off. Even to some extent, my Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, and ps2 games look off as well... they actually look better at 480p via component on my Trinitron in my opinion then component via my HD CRT. Perhaps cause they were developed with 480p in mind. Except for the Dreamcast.... Dreamcast actually had VGA support and it looks amazing on a CRT Monitor. However Xbox 360 and the PS3... and even launch ps4 and Xbox One.... look amazing on the HD crt TV's. Hope this helps.
It just sucks that because of the way TV's and Monitors are today the games have black bars left and right because it's 4:3 Ratio. I've seen that people are making a mod on Seventh Heaven about making the game Fullscreen and I'm glad. Still. Menus are still 4:3 ratio. Yes you get used to 4:3 ratio but I just finished Remake and looking at some screenshots of the OG. I feel like the screen is way too small. PS4 btw.
Yeah I got the same mini too. The textures and sound are very different as this is running on original hardware whereas the mini runs on emulation. It's the main reason I got myself a PS1 again.

It’s one of my biggest complaints about re-releases of old games. They should come with a toggleable cctv filter.
Meanwhile when I tell my friends I use a CRT filter on emulators they cringe, they _do not understand_

Ps1 is the one console I think shines most on CRT. It not only smooths out the graphics but the jitter/wobble, too.
I definitely noticed the wobble as a kid, but I just chose to ignore it because I was so engrossed in the games. Lol.

I played on a CRT monitor the PC port. It was a pain to get it working and had graphical glitches but so worth it.
