Marilyn wore Vaseline underneath all her makeup. She prefered a glowy finish because it blurred under the studio lights. I think the highlights are a 2023 way of doing the Vaseline trick. 😊 If anyone is interested about Marilyns makeup theres tons of books out there ❤
Another great makeup artist who does a lot of Marilyn-based work is Erin Parsons. She does a lot of ancient history makeup, too. She's very interesting and she actually owns some of Marilyn's makeup!
I know Erin Parsons made a video where she duped Marilyn's lipstick and settled on Siren, but I'm not sure that Siren by Revlon is actually confirmed to be worn by Marilyn. I thought Siren first came out in 2011 as a part of Revlon's retro collection. Was it a re-release of a vintage shade? I'd like to know more if you have any further information. Thank you🙂
I love wet and wild and always have. I just recently bought a Marilyn lipstick combo and the lips balm that comes with the red lipstick (love it) only one thing….the lip balm is so perfume y I don’t think I will wear it that much .

Emily, you can use a push pin or needle to prick as many holes (as wanted) on the illuminated powder cover. I use this method to prevent ridiculous amounts of powder pouring out of a sifter.
I purchased that Besame lipstick you mentioned as a gift, and my friend absolutely loves it. She thought it was so special that I picked a Marilyn inspired red for her in such a quality formula and beautiful packaging, because she is a true red lip lover and rocks it.
How sweet of that group of kids to give your mom that nice compliment! She does resemble Jayne. I too am underwhelmed by this collection. The packaging looks cheap. They’ve been a lot more cute and clever with most of their other collabs lately. There is a highlighter that looks pretty and the clear balm is cool. The red lipstick and gloss look really pretty on you, but you’re right… not Marilyn’s shade.
Maybe you can poke the holes in the loose powder container with a needle? It won't remove the plastic of course, but it'll at least help get to the product 😊 love your red headband!

I was watching a Marilyn fanatic, and she bought one of her original max factor lipsticks at an auction and the color of the lipstick was more like an orange, not a red! I found it super interesting, because we always pair up Marilyn Monroe with a classic red lip.
That’s because of the film that was used then orange translated as red on screen. It took her makeup artist trial and error to make her lip color show up as red. So interesting.

We so appreciate that about you, among so many other facets that make you YOU! I do love Besame products. The owner, Gabriela Hernandez, prides herself on the research she puts into her retro-based products. They're more pricey than drugstore, of course, but they are high quality. I have about 15 of her lipsticks, her Violet powder, cake mascaras (that I use for eyeliner), among other things. Her brushes are actually pretty well priced and good quality as well!
Emily, I think you should do your own Marilyn dupe look for less, or something like that. You have a lot of knowledge concerning her actual makeup routine.
Speaking of Wet n' Wild - I saw that they carry so many awesome little makeup sticks in addition to the Where's Walnut contour that we love. I got several concealer shades and blush shades and even one of the highlight sticks too! I'm excited to use them and hope they will be as easy a part of my every day routine as Where's Walnut has become. Have you tried any of the other sticks besides the contour/blush? I was excited to see a range in that line because I love how easy they are to use!

I got some products from this a few weeks ago. I love the eye shadow palette (I don't own the walking on eggshells, but I also didn't know it was the same, ha!), the dual liquid liner, and the blush. I was very disappointed with how glittery the blush was, considering they didn't put out one that was without it. I don't do glitter and trying to get that colour on my darker skin makes me look even more shiny. I steered clear of everything else, and you pretty much justified all of those reasons. Cheers!
Someone might have suggested this, but I would use a needle or safety pen to push holes in the sticker of the setting powder. ( I realize you shouldn’t HAVE to do this, but at least you could try it).
Em! Take a sharp small knife or exactly blade and poke holes in the plastic packaging for the powder. It will be mess free and you will have working hole!

I got the box set just to look at. Really only wanted the eyeliners and blush, but got carried away. :D Also was impressed that they'd put out a set that had all of the pieces in it instead of having to order extra bits. They haven't done that in a while (Snoopy, Scooby, Sesame St, Care Bears, Lilo & Stitch... Not even sure Pac-Man had all the bits.)

A little trick to get the sticker off-use a hair dryer on low setting for aboit 10 seconds then pause and try. The heat loosens the adhesive. Also works great for price tags that are stubborn.

I just have an issue with using her image to sell products that aren’t related to her at all… does that make sense? In reality, her look would’ve been made with all matte products. So the shimmery blushes and the luminous setting powder don’t make sense. Even the little shadow palette.. a rose gold shimmer? That Besame collection years ago was fantastic, this (to me) is gimmicky
I paused the video just after the cheeks to tell you that I love Marylin Monroe’s look and I wanted to get the eye pallet- the colors are pretty - but then I saw the price and said I don’t need to pay for a picture stamped on a compact I can get those colors in other versions so it was a pass for me. I love it but the up-pricing was not setting well with me. I love the review. I think they make great makeup and I am usually happy with the pricing so overall I still am happy with the brand.

Your mom is beautiful I did purchase a few pieces grom the collection. I enjoy the lip liner and lip gloss, as well as the champagne highlighter. I also like the brush with the "crystal" handle.

I got this collection when I saw it at Walgreens and I did get the shadow and loved it at first but my skin is a little deeper than yours- medium tan and it really doesn’t show up with the eyeshadow. I did love the eyeshadow at first. But the walking on eggshells I don’t love, I gave it away so I am going to give this eyeshadow palette away too. I definitely need nude tones that have more depth. I did love the eyeliner and the mascara I gave it go-it’s OK. I did get the loose powder and the blush and some of the highlighters for gifts. I did really like the lip balm and I tried the lipstick and I agree with you that it has more pinker undertones and so I will be giving those away as well. so pretty much the only thing that I am keeping is the loose powder, the eyeliner and the mascara. I do agree with you that the look you did with the Bésame Marilyn Monroe was the best. I have a lot of Bésame and have used them probably since the time they started. Years ago. But I wish that I could have gotten in on the Marilyn Monroe set when it came out but I totally missed it. Thank you for sharing.

Great video! You're gorgeous! I wanted the Marilyn palette and went to Amazon. Then I looked at the regular wet and wild palettes and I saw that call me sunshine 10 pan was marked down right now to 3.49. I had never bought that 1 but had the other 3. So it was a no-brainer and I'm grateful I was able to get that one so affordably.

I never remove the plastic seal on loose powders. Instead, I poke holes in them with a toothpick. Less messy!

Emily-don’t peel off the sticker on the loose powder. Stick a straight pin through the holes and then you can control how much comes out.

In reality, her look would’ve been made with all matte products. So the shimmery blushes and the luminous setting powder don’t make sense. Even the little shadow palette.. a rose gold shimmer?
That Besame collection years ago was fantastic, this (to me) is gimmicky

I literally just ordered this a few minutes ago. So very excited to see a video from you on this! But I agree on the markup.
I paused the video just after the cheeks to tell you that I love Marylin Monroe’s look and I wanted to get the eye pallet- the colors are pretty - but then I saw the price and said I don’t need to pay for a picture stamped on a compact I can get those colors in other versions so it was a pass for me. I love it but the up-pricing was not setting well with me. I love the review. I think they make great makeup and I am usually happy with the pricing so overall I still am happy with the brand.

I saw this collection at my local Walgreens. I bought the lighter version of the highlighter and it’s too icy for me and my skin tone but I passed it on to my daughter 😊

I did purchase a few pieces grom the collection. I enjoy the lip liner and lip gloss, as well as the champagne highlighter. I also like the brush with the "crystal" handle.

I got this collection when I saw it at Walgreens and I did get the shadow and loved it at first but my skin is a little deeper than yours- medium tan and it really doesn’t show up with the eyeshadow. I did love the eyeshadow at first. But the walking on eggshells I don’t love, I gave it away so I am going to give this eyeshadow palette away too. I definitely need nude tones that have more depth. I did love the eyeliner and the mascara I gave it go-it’s OK. I did get the loose powder and the blush and some of the highlighters for gifts. I did really like the lip balm and I tried the lipstick and I agree with you that it has more pinker undertones and so I will be giving those away as well. so pretty much the only thing that I am keeping is the loose powder, the eyeliner and the mascara. I do agree with you that the look you did with the Bésame Marilyn Monroe was the best. I have a lot of Bésame and have used them probably since the time they started. Years ago. But I wish that I could have gotten in on the Marilyn Monroe set when it came out but I totally missed it. Thank you for sharing.

That loose powder has shimmer in it
When it comes to setting powders, i never remove the seal sticker. Instead i poke a few of the holes to avoid it from overflowing with powder. 😊

Great video! You're gorgeous! I wanted the Marilyn palette and went to Amazon. Then I looked at the regular wet and wild palettes and I saw that call me sunshine 10 pan was marked down right now to 3.49. I had never bought that 1 but had the other 3. So it was a no-brainer and I'm grateful I was able to get that one so affordably.
