Totally agree here. Star Fleet is a very dark and adult series, and despite a few light-hearted moments here and there, the overall tone of the show is pretty pessimistic. Even the epilogue is very much a bittersweet moment of pyrrhic victory : the Imperial Alliance has been vanquished forever, but so many good people perished in the course of the battle : Captain Carter, Doctor Ben, Kirara, and last but not least Lamia herself, since she had to shed her humanity to become F-Zero One, and forfeit her physical existence on Earth. And of course, let's not forget that last-second voiceover from the narrator : "But, can eternal peace be guaranteed in a universe that can allow the viciousness of an Imperial Alliance?... Only time will tell."
@@jamesbielby3491 Not quite correct. Barry Hercules was voiced by Constantine Gregory. It was John Lee who was voiced by Mark Rolston (Machine gunner Drake from Aliens, and prison rapist Bogs Diamond in The Shawshank Redemption) Two other actors from Aliens were in the cast: Professor Hagen (Shiro's father) and the Imperial Alliance war machine inventor Caliban were both voiced by the late Al Matthews who played marine sergeant Apone in Aliens. Also, Shiro Hagen was voiced by the late Jay Benedict who played Russ Jorden, father of Rebecca 'Newt' Jorden in the extended cut of Aliens.
@@jamesbielby3491 No, Drake is played by Mark Rolston, who voices John Lee. Incidentally, Jay Benedict, who voices Shiro, also played Newt’s father in the extended cut of “Aliens”.
@carolinelynch2823 definitely a show of its time. The misogyny ref was related to when the crew 1st met lamia on X bomber. The guys got quite excited, Barry hercules made a comment but I can't remember what it was. Happy viewing
NO NO NO Shirro, don't trust him, don't let him wander off with your girl bro, he's all in black and wears a skull on his helmet surely that's a dodgy omen. urrrrhh, not happy about this at all, NOT AT ALL
No Weapons!!!! Hang on just a minute; well what about that Sword Hali's been wandering about with hmmm and what of that sail ship; pretty sure they count as weapons. not sure I trust this Hali chap! Something Makara said to Lamia about people and power.
"Details" ;) No, actually, they respect the choice of others. THEY don't want to use weapons, but ... notice how they also don't forbid X-Bomber to fight for them?
Still amazed that a kids' show from the 80s is more grown up than most adults cartoons in the 2020s.

Barry Hercules, the Samuel L. Jackson of Star Fleet
The actor who voiced him is the same guy who played Drake in Aliens

When I first saw the show, I thought the King & Queen were Lamia's parents!
20:35 the *DEATH BALL* looks like one of the machines from Heavy Object.
Why do I get the feeling that death ball was what everybody called a mace when they first invented it...?
Christ, what happened to that guy’s head at 4:30? It looks like he came out of the mold wrong.
May Dr Ben RIP but the imperial alliance will fall.
Machoism, death, misogyny, power, hope/hopelessness, enslavement and a crazy old dude who smokes a pipe.
Epic cartoon series.
Misogyny?
@@carolinelynch2823 have you watched it?
I have watched it before. Watching it at the moment

Carries around a huge sword for no reason whatsoever too, except to make sure that everyone knows that this is a Japanese show!
