- Percival James Patterson, Jamaican political leader, prime minister of Jamaica (1992-2006). A lawyer, he became an active member of the People's National party (PNP) in the 1950s. From 1972 to 1980 Patterson held various ministerial posts, including minister of finance. In 1989 he became deputy prime minister under Michael Manley, and when Manley resigned in 1992 Patterson was appointed party leader and prime minister. He won an electoral victory the next year and was returned to power in 1997 and 2002. In a time of economic difficulties for Jamaica, he pursued privatization and other free-market reforms, but crime remained a persistent problem, and his tenure was marred by corruption allegations. He retired in 2006, and Portia Simpson-Miller succeeded him as prime minister.

What does he have to show for the 18 years he was in power? Nothing! What did he do for Jamaica and how did he get so rich when he left office? Hmmm! All those properties overseas, Princess Margaret's Yacht that he purchased, where did he get the money from? He took over as prime minister as an ordinary man and left office filthy rich while Jamaica languished in squalor, poverty and no development. Portia Simpson, our first and only female prime minister did a great Job and Mr. Holnes is doing his part. P.J. Patterson, a big disgrace.

This man was a colossal failure! The Jamaican economy was further ruined by his policies. I remember the days of 40-60% interest rates at banks. When Michael Manley took over from Edward Seaga in 1989 Jamaica was in debt-$800 million usd in other words when Michael Manley took over from Edward Seaga the government didn't have any money to operate. Edward Seaga was the luckiest third world prime minister in the world, the CIA put Edward Seaga into power and Ronald Reagan pumped 100 million usd in Edward Seaga government every year for 8 years that's $800 million usd. The United States Goverment send some yellow left handed drive school buses to Jamaica to run as public transportation 😥😥🤣😜 The largest transshipment port in the Caribbean was built by PJ Patterson goverment the north coast highway from negril to port Antonio, hwy 2000, Half way tree transport center, emancipation park, Oakland apartments complex on constant spring road, redevelopment of Norman Manley Airport, 30 year lease Montego bay airport, Montego bay convention center, the Trelawney cricket stadium, redevelopment of sports complex all over Jamaica, schools, redevelopment of hospitals island wide, mandeville two even get a new hospital building etc the South coast highway PJ Patterson goverment put the planning into motion all those north South corridor and hwy etc PJ Patterson goverment developed the master plan etc. Go do some research for yourself mr. What were the average growth rate throughout Manley's and Patterson years in office? I need actual numbers and not what's in your head(official statistics) Why did the financial sector collapse? Why did the Jamaican economy got smaller even though the rest of the world recorded unprecedented growth? Numbers don't lie, people do! Your political biases are well documented on these sites.
