Aw! Tqsm for correcting me, Kylo's name kept popping up in my head for this but I always felt it doesn't look quite right. Turns out I couldn't even recognize Revan, the "star" of KOTOR :-D
I’m loving this Sirui’s design, but I’ve been considering the TTArtisan 75mm f/2. The size difference seems noticeable, especially for outdoor shoots or travel setups.
The TTArtisan is one stop slower so the size difference is expected. For travel however, a 75 or 85 might a tad restrictive; a 35 or 40 fast prime might be a lot more versatile.
I keep going back and forth between an 85mm and the TTArtisan 75mm f/2. The sharpness and bokeh on the TTArtisan are getting a lot of praise, and the lightweight, compact design is super tempting. I’d mainly use it for portraits, so the fast autofocus and that swirly bokeh effect sound perfect. Anyone else in the same boat?
I have gotten my hands on the Nikon 85mm 1.8 (and 1.2) before. The 1.8 is a good lens close to being on par with the Sigma, it's cheaper (I think) but longer in terms of size. The 1.2 is amazingly good however, easily comparable to the Canon RF 85 1.2 that I used for a couple of years.
This was the official reply I got from Sirui : Regarding the "partial compatibility" mention, this typically refers to how certain features might perform differently depending on the camera model. While the Aurora Series 85mm F1.4 lens is designed to work with full-frame Sony E-mount cameras like the Sony FX3, FX6, A7C, and A7III, some features may vary: Autofocus performance: On certain models, there may be slight variations in autofocus speed or tracking efficiency, particularly in low-light conditions. However, the lens is optimized to provide a responsive experience across most models. Aperture control and display: The stepless aperture ring, which is ideal for smooth exposure adjustments in video, may display differently on specific cameras. For example, in video mode, some cameras may show aperture changes slightly slower than in photo mode. Hope this helps
Thank you. Could you test it on an APSC camera as the lens is also launching on Fuji X? Do you think the sharpness would be enough for the more demanding APSC sensor? Obviously it's worse than the Sigma and new GM, but which lens for $500 isn't, right
Not sure if I can get my hands on one but a quick seach yielded this : www.microfournerds.com/blog/meike-85mm-f14-auto-focus-review ; this might help since he/she compared it to a Sigma 85mm but I think that might be the 85mm HSM Art

what review is this comparing the lenses???? one is 1/5 second the other one is 1/30....at this focal length 1/5 seconds ....and its confusing...Sigma is on tripod and the Sirui not???
Both mounted on tripod on the same camera. I shot some with quicker shutter speed as the light was changing as I took the test shot, these were shot during sunrise as I didn't have a lot of time to complete the testing. That being said, if it's on a tripod, shutter speed shouldn't matter, at least not for a 85mm shot at 1/5 or 1/30s.
@@quagmire321able this is not true - subject motion blur will be impacted by the shutter speed, so faster is always better...at least 1/focal length if not more. Even on tripod.
Holllly s* i just ordered one! So its look like its out of focus a lot of time! I have to cancel this order, WHAT about Samyang 85? Can you compare it to GM and Sirui?
No sir, not a lot but just worse than the Sigma. I used it to shoot a lot of other photos and it worked fine. I haven't tested the Samyang thoroughly enough to say anything about it but I am sure there are already plenty of reviews online for that lens.

The TTArtisan looks pretty good from reviews. Maybe you could get both that and the Sirui? Test and keep the one you like? ;-)
I got the TT for 137 dollar from their website early on. Mega deal for a very capable lens. I will buy sirui and decide if the tt gets sold.
Great comparison. Thank you for gathering the shots!
Glad you liked it!
Great comparison! Thanks for sharing. Now I know that I’ll need to go for the much better SIGMA for my purposes.
i hope thre will be comparison with old and reliable performer like sony 85 1.8
Learning something new everyday. Thank you, sir for this video.
Thank you for your kind words :-D
I'd wish, Sigma Art would produce them for NIKON Z's, but since they don't, I have to look around. I wonder if that gets close to Nikons 85mm 1.8?
Wait for Viltrox lab 85f1.4, soon or later it will come for Z.

Have you use a Meike 85mm 1.4 lens? How is its performance compare to this new lens from Sirui? thanks, nice review
Especially the AF, thanks
Unfortunately, no. I haven't touched a Meike 85mm before.
Great test! Very helpful.
The auto focus is fixable by Firmware update 😟.
Thanks for the review!
You are most welcome! :-D
Sirui website says lens is Partial Compatible for Sony A7S3 for Photography. What does that mean? Will it work?

Thank you for the comparison. Sigma seems to be still the best 85mm for E-Mount.
I would say the 85mm GM II would be the best with the GM I and Sigma following it for E-mount.
