Making the Dual Lens Pouch (Leather-working)
The SIRUI 85 shows superior performance compared to the Meike 85.
The auto focus is fixable by Firmware update 😟.
Absolutely sirui is better.
Thank you
I keep going back and forth between an 85mm and the TTArtisan 75mm f/2. The sharpness and bokeh on the TTArtisan are getting a lot of praise, and the lightweight, compact design is super tempting. I’d mainly use it for portraits, so the fast autofocus and that swirly bokeh effect sound perfect. Anyone else in the same boat?
The TTArtisan looks pretty good from reviews. Maybe you could get both that and the Sirui? Test and keep the one you like? ;-)
Thanks for the great video. Which core unit is in the bag? DSLR medium v2?
It's the Think Tank Stash Master L, not a Shimoda Core Unit
Seems F38 is not designed to make photos, but as solution to carry. Pin locked devices always have some movement, at least part of milimeter
I just got an Ulanzi Zero F38 and I was disappointed with it right out of the box. The plate has a little bit of play before even using it. I have piggybacked an arca-swiss clamp to the F38 plate so I can at least attach my camera with the L bracket that's been on it for the past 6 years. I had initially thought the F38 clamp would accommodate the arca-swiss L bracket but I was sorely mistaken.
sorry to hear about your experience, personally, I might still buy Ulanzi tripods but with the traditional Arca Swiss clamp instead just to be safe. And yea, F38 clamps are *not* 100% compatible with normal Arca Swiss plates in that they won't stay in position properly (i.e. no locking pin/mechanism); the same applies for nearly all Ärca-Swiss compatible quick release clamps like PGYTech's, Smallrig's and probably even PD's. :-)
You can’t do a crappy comparison of lenses with varying shutter speed. It’s a bad review. Wonder how Sirui found you.
Thank you for your lovely comment. It is greatly appreciated. 😁
way cheaper than Sony gm ii...i guess worth trying 😅
True, if your needs don't extend to potentially shooting in difficult conditions, this should work well enough.
@@quagmire321able let do the shoot together...haha
great review, straight forward & informative. subs

ah a local cosplay photog
Thank you for the comment but not exactly, my first time ever at a cosplay event. Went there just because I wanted to test the lens as close as real life conditions as possible
Would like to see bokeh comparison.
Take a look at the Loca comparison photos. The bokeh is relatively good, at least without any major issues. For a lens at this price, that is a pass for me 🤓
Wow I'll wait for L mount for my lumix s1 😁
Can you do a comparison with the meike 85 1.4 🙏
Not sure if I can get my hands on one but a quick seach yielded this : www.microfournerds.com/blog/meike-85mm-f14-auto-focus-review ; this might help since he/she compared it to a Sigma 85mm but I think that might be the 85mm HSM Art
nice price to be honest
I really like the rendering of the Sirui
I like it too
Great test! Very helpful.
i hope thre will be comparison with old and reliable performer like sony 85 1.8
*Darth Revan
Aw! Tqsm for correcting me, Kylo's name kept popping up in my head for this but I always felt it doesn't look quite right. Turns out I couldn't even recognize Revan, the "star" of KOTOR :-D
So basically you get what you pay for. Thanks for the comparisons!
It seems so and considering the launch price, the Sirui is an alternative I'd consider myself if I didn't have the Sigma myself.
Thank you for the comparison. Sigma seems to be still the best 85mm for E-Mount.
I would say the 85mm GM II would be the best with the GM I and Sigma following it for E-mount.
@@quagmire321ableBest based on what parameters?
@@alyousuf combination of image quality, focusing speed, features & compatibility with Sony bodies and to a smaller extent, build quality (at least Sony provides a lot more details about their weather + dust sealing than Sigma).
Thanks for the review!
You are most welcome! :-D
Next viltrox 75mm f1.2 sony vs sigma f1.4 autofocus test
I would if I could, my local Viltrox disti doesn't really loan units out for reviews AFAIK
You really can’t test a lens except on focusing on a chart with a flash on a tripod to eliminate shake
Thank you. Could you test it on an APSC camera as the lens is also launching on Fuji X? Do you think the sharpness would be enough for the more demanding APSC sensor? Obviously it's worse than the Sigma and new GM, but which lens for $500 isn't, right
Exactly! I actually forgotten to test it on APS-C crop mode on my Sony. Will do so in the future.
Have you use a Meike 85mm 1.4 lens? How is its performance compare to this new lens from Sirui? thanks, nice review
Especially the AF, thanks
Unfortunately, no. I haven't touched a Meike 85mm before.
Learning something new everyday. Thank you, sir for this video.
Thank you for your kind words :-D
Holllly s* i just ordered one! So its look like its out of focus a lot of time! I have to cancel this order, WHAT about Samyang 85? Can you compare it to GM and Sirui?
No sir, not a lot but just worse than the Sigma. I used it to shoot a lot of other photos and it worked fine. I haven't tested the Samyang thoroughly enough to say anything about it but I am sure there are already plenty of reviews online for that lens.
Go with sigma. Best 85mm until the GMii
@@quagmire321able Sirui told you to wrote it :) Sounds like you are going to review it again
@@conradomedia lol... I think Sirui now regrets asking me if I wanted to review the lens and I wouldn't write what Sirui tells me, I write what I think.
@@quagmire321able They told me they going to contact you to change the review :D They did not? :D I think this lens optically will be nice but AF will be horrible for profesional use.
what's pink cushion?
Pincushion
what review is this comparing the lenses???? one is 1/5 second the other one is 1/30....at this focal length 1/5 seconds ....and its confusing...Sigma is on tripod and the Sirui not???
Both mounted on tripod on the same camera. I shot some with quicker shutter speed as the light was changing as I took the test shot, these were shot during sunrise as I didn't have a lot of time to complete the testing. That being said, if it's on a tripod, shutter speed shouldn't matter, at least not for a 85mm shot at 1/5 or 1/30s.
@@quagmire321able this is not true - subject motion blur will be impacted by the shutter speed, so faster is always better...at least 1/focal length if not more. Even on tripod.
@@davepastern welp, I guess you and I have a difference in opinion. And I will leave it at that ;-)
@@quagmire321able wow.
No wonder the cars were all blurry....
Great comparison. Thank you for gathering the shots!
Glad you liked it!
Ok so where’s the rest of the video 😂
Testing in progress, the rest of the parts got stuck in customs for nearly 6wks 😤
Will the v2 plate work with a Sirui VA5 head clamp? My current arca swiss does not, the grooves are not wide enough....i have to piggyback that plate on Sirui's plate as i have a plunger type catch for my sholder strap on the tripod collar.
Not sure but my plates worked with all the Arca Swiss clamps I have (which includes a Sirui head clamp) and I don't have a VA5 clamp to test with.
That is not an issue (I don't know, maybe will be but after a lot of exploitation) but a feature. Ulanzi makes some of their products compatible with Peak Design base plates. I personally use Ulanzi and PD quick release systems. Ulanzi want PD base plates to be comparable with their quick release systems, but PD base plate are a bit wider (like 1mm or so) and Ulanzi need to make their quick release plate a little bit more wide. And the result is that when you slide PD base plate into Ulanzi quick release plate you almost don't have this plate "play", but when you slide Ulanzi base plate into Ulanzi quick release plate, you have a lot of plate "play". It is a necessary evil to have compatibility between those two systems
Great stuff, now I know why it has a bit of play. TQ 😁
What do you think about strap clamp baseplate? Is there any wooble with that too? Im thinking to get one and i wont get it if it is rattling when we use it
@stefanusadrian8398 it does wobble a little if you shake the camera plate whether you have a camera mounted or not but once you attach it to a strap and some weight pulls the camera plate down a little and it doesn't feel loose. Hope this helps.
@@quagmire321able is it convenience to use it ? Or is it better to attacht the strap directly to camera?
@@stefanusadrian8398 it's kinda nice since the camera now is attached at the bottom instead of both sides but it does add weight to the entire setup.... and I don't use mine anymore. IMHO, its a bit of a solution looking for a problem 😛
@@quagmire321able im afraid i dont use it long time. Not cheap too. When shooting while attached on it, does it hinder our movement?
@@stefanusadrian8398 yes, it will hinder you if you don't release it from the baseplate when you shoot since it adds bulk (and weight) to your strap when you have it.
You're lucky you received a response at all. That company don't answer emails at all. Either way though I'm not putting my setup on their products.
Lol.... well... I am testing Smallrig's Hawklock cage right now. Let's see if that stands up to actual use. BTW, Ulanzi wasn't great at replying for the 1st 6mths I sent them a question through multiple channels but they did suddenly or coincidentally reply 3 days after I sent them a link to my video on UA-cam. Hehe...
Lol

I bought a OnePro Flex on their website and delivered by AMZN MCF fulfillment. Funny thing was I received it last week before most kickstarter backers in the states. Comfort wise it feels very similar to my Shimoda Explore except the shoulder straps. It is a bit more rigid/stiff. Shimoda is a bit more soft or flexible. It might take some time to break in the foam padding.
Great stuff, thank you for comment. Now we know a bit more of how the Flex is actually like :-D
While well built, I find Shimoda bags to be excessively heavy compared with similar sized bags.
@lasticonoclast thank you for the comment, it weighs around 2.5-2.6kg including the insert; that's good enough for me since I don't really use it for actual hiking.
I really liked your style of video. Straightforward no silly gimmicks.
@justinlang313 thank you :-)
(September 2024) The latest firmware version is 1.84 AND you need to upgrade twice to get it to 1.84. First run it goes to 1.82 and second run to 1.84. As of 28 Sept, it feels like it didn't introduce any new bugs and app response is better
can you help me ? i can't found my devide in the app :/
@@varolucho do you have the latest app version on your phone from the Play Store? If so, just try to add new device again and it should find it. If it doesn't, try power off and on the X100. And finally, if you really can't get it to work, I think I remember there is a way to reset the Bluetooth on the device. Try doing that and do Add New Device again.

Could be you 🤓
The lock issue is due to the hybrid AF implementation. The camera will decide whether to use the legacy AF algorithm based on the lighting conditions. This is the reason you experienced big differences between f/1.8 and f/4 lenses. Current AF implementation produces a large amount of false positives when AF seems to be locked.
Really? I have done the same test with a couple of Sony cameras and neither of them exhibited the same behaviour with f/4 lenses
@@quagmire321able Unfortunately it is the reality about the AF implementation of S5II and it is stated in the manual as well. I tested Canon R6 MK2 for about 2 days using RF 24-105 F/4 and RF 24-70 F/2.8 lenses. To be honest, I had no effort to focus on any object, human, moving car ...etc. and I almost had %100 focused results. The difference is HUGE.
@@engineer4862 ahhh... so it's a S5 II issue, I guess it's not too bad for a 1st gen hybrid AF then but they still have a lot of catching up to do. BTW, I found the AF works much better with the primes on the S5 II. I am prime shooter, so I am kinda ok with that 😛
Great review
14:10 Did u read the instruction manual? hehehe 😅
Yes, I did and I reached out to Panasonic for a solution, they said nothing.
13:48 At least now you have somewhere to vent your miseries. 😢
I use the FX3 cage. If I try it with the separately purchased F38, I have the same problem. The cage locks but shakes around. I'm not sure about the F38 because sometimes it slides out on its own. Maybe I'm overloading it.
Overloading seems unlikely, when the F38 system works well, I don't think any normal camera rig will overload it. If a unworn F38 camera plate works well on the same F38 base-plate, then your cage is... well... worn and needs to be replaced if you want to be secure with a F38 base-plate but remember, even if worn, you can still use a normal Arca-Swiss base-plate to clamp it securely to anything.
Since I have ordered a TreeRoot tripod (based on your review), I would like to enter the F38 ecosystem but to be honest the product catalog is quite disconcerting. Regarding the plates, there is the 2268 and the 2270 which is multi-holes, what is the difference? It seems that there are also 3 different plates: the original 2269, the anti-deflect 2401and the new v2 2401A. Which one to get? I have also found a base plate for the Weebill S. Will it be compatible with the Weebill 3E as well? Or can I simply add a 2268 base to the original Weebill 3E? I'm so confused and the Ulanzi website is pretty messy as well.
Wow... that's a lot of questions in 1 comment. :-P Right, the 2268 looks like the base plate + camera plate combo kit and the 2270 is the base plate only. The multi-hole base plate kit (with the standard camera plate) is F38B3404 from what I can see on their website; there is also a multi-hole camera plate which is F38B3810. As far as the camera plates, I have standard 2269, the anti-deflect 2401. And it looks like the 2401A is an improved 2401, so you can get that or the 2401. One small thing I discovered recently though... even if I tighten the anti-deflect plates down with quite a lot of force, it can slide *FORWARD* and still loosen. LOL... not great but it doesn't normally happen except when I take my cameras out from my bag. For the gimbal plate, I don't recommend using the F38 ones, they aren't cheap and if you plate or cage wears like mine did; your camera will shift on the gimbal. Use Arca-Swiss base-plates, the one from Smallrig is probably one of the best. BTW, the 2268 should NOT be used on gimbals, it is a single screw hole on the bottom. You really should have at least 2 screw holes on gimbals. The F38B3810 should work but again... just go with Arca-Swiss. Turning a screw to mount on a gimbal only takes 3-5secs ;-)
@@quagmire321able thank you very much for your help, much appreciated
I just bought the Treeroot tripod kit before watching this video. I was very worried at the start of the video, but now I think FALCAM are a good brand who care about their products and their customers. Thank you for sharing your honest experience.
Great! Perhaps you can post an update here on how the Tree root tripod head is working for you. Does it have some sort of clamp that applies force onto the camera plate?
@@quagmire321able Everything snaps into place, and I don't even have to touch the clamp to secure it. It works with the included F38 plate, all my Arca Swiss plates, and my Small Rig Cage. The release lever is large and easy to operate, even with gloves. The head does not work with my old Manfroto plates, but I have already replaced my Manfroto system with all Arca-Swiss compatible gear.
@@michaeljemery alright... "clicks" is not the best sign... welp... hope they have somehow fixed their system to be more tolerant to wear.
@@quagmire321able My system is brand new, with no loose or wobbly parts. It is too early to tell how long it will stay that way, but it feels solid enough to last for many years. The only clicking noise I have found is the friction dampening control, and that is supposed to click so you can hear how far you have adjusted it. I like that feature.
