  • This is an overview of a 1975 Pontiac Grand Am that we purchased in January 2022. The vehicle is very well optioned with full power accessories as well as a power sky roof (sunroof). This will be the first of many videos documenting its restoration.

    Great find. Glad your saving the GA. They are fantastic cars. I will be curious to see how you repair the seals on the sunroof.

      The Skyroof seals are in surprisingly good shape. No interior leaks that I can find so far. But I did order new seals from MonteMania.com just in case. Thanks for the comment!

    Thanks for the update!! I’m glad she went to a goof home!!
    With all the cool options she’s definitely with restoring!!
    I saved that same interior in the 80’s from my first car a 76 Grand Prix, & going in my 74 Grand Am eventually!! Tony B.

      These Grand Am's are very cool cars. Love to see some pics/videos of your 74. Thanks so much for the comments Tony.

    Love the Grand Am's. She is really clean ( I live in Minnesota...lol). I never get why folks take the time to sand down a car then leave it in primer! Put a coat of paint on and that spot rust would not be there. No big deal though. Rare car.

      I have really started to appreciate this car the more I dig into it. I've lived up in Wisconsin for a few years and saw the carnage that salted roads does to vehicles. So I'm very grateful to have found this one in solid condition. It looks like an eye sore at the moment but I've got big plans for this ole gal. Just started stripping off the rust on the hood last night with a surface conditioning tool from Eastwood. It loves a steady diet of rust and should make short work of this. Thanks so much for your comment.

      Yes, lacquer primer isn't much protection. If they'd have used epoxy primer, it wouldn't have rusted.

    Designed by Jack Humbert for John DeLorean before DeLorean quit GM in 1973. Last Grand Am for a few more years. LeMans A-body with Grand Prix instrument panel and interior.

    • @grand73am
      @grand73am 7 місяців тому

      Actually Humbert didn't design the Grand Am. He's credited with the 68 GTO, 69 Grand Prix and 70 1/2 Firebird, and earlier cars. Charlie Gatewood is who designed the 73 Grand Am under the direction of Bill Porter head of the Pontiac design studio.

    I've got a 75 Grand Am factory 455 w/skyroof and most all options in nice shape. It's a rare? bench seat car burgandy w/red interior. Do you know anyone that reproduces the weather stripping for the skyroof? No problem for the rest of it but can't find it for the skyroof. Thanks. Steve

      @g3garage  Рік тому

      Steven, yes your car is rare. Very few Grand Ams were ordered with a 455 and even fewer were made with a bench seat which was a special order. I bought new skyroof seals for mine from MonteMania. Phil is a great guy to work with and the parts are good quality. Hope this helps.

      Yes, I'll be shooting that video in the next couple of months. But Groundhogz Garage did a video of this a while back. He did a great job of documenting the install on his 74 Grand Am. Hope this helps.

    Hi there, this video is one year old, what happened to this beautiful Grand Am? Last week I bought 1975 grand am from the court auction. The car needs cosmetic works I’m wondering if you could help me where can I find interior parts? The seat covers are perfect. The Consol needs to becleaned out, steering wheel I’m not happy with it I want to buy a new
    one. Can you guide me where to buy one even if it is used but clean? I appreciate your help. Finally, how far you reached understanding it? It will look really nice especially with the roof.

      Thanks so much for your interest. This Grand Am is still in my possession. Its been put on the back burner for a while since we just purchased property with a shop and have slowly been moving the shop to our new location. I will have an update video coming out in the next week or so going over all the projects that we will be working on this year. As far as interior parts, the only things that are readily available for the Grand Ams are headliners, lower door panels, carpet sets and just recently, one of the guys on the facebook group for 73-75 Grand Ams is offering restored dash pads. I would recommend joining that group as well as joining tthe forum G3GM.com. They focus on all GM A Body vehicles from 1973-1977. Hope this helps and stay tuned!

    How do those sunroof seals from Montemania compare to the originals? Thanks

    • @g3garage
      @g3garage  7 місяців тому

      The seals are similar but not exact. They appear to be a little thinner than the originals. Thanks for your comment!

    Love the Grand Am!! You said you had ordered the nose cone, do you have places that you can find parts for these cars? I've had no luck finding parts for my '77 Lemans.

      Thanks Chaz! It's becoming one of my favorites for sure. I've got a 77 Can Am parts car that is mostly complete. I'll shoot you an email and maybe we can do some horse trading for the seats. That way everyone benefits.

      I feel your pain PSS ! I have a 74 Buick GS 455 Century...you cannot find interior or body parts for 1973 - 1977 A bodies! There is some support for the Malibu's but still not much -- so you can order a set of Malibu seat covers and window cranks for your Buick, but that's about it! I had a deer come out of nowhere two years ago and took out my left fender and headlight bucket...it was a real challenge but found ONE fender in the US for that car! $600. It took me another year to find the headlight bucket because the Century and Regal were slightly different, and the GS is Century - not as common.

    IMO, sandblasting the hood is the way to go. I started with the sanding and metal/rust treatment, but I don’t think it compares to sandblasting. Have someone do it if you can. It’s a messy DIY job.

    • @g3garage
      @g3garage  2 роки тому

      Yeah, that was my first thought is to have everything sandblasted professionally. But after listening to guys that do high end restorations like Sylvester Customs, they are adamantly against doing exterior panels using this method. They claim it warps the metal even if its dustless blasting. I've already ruined a trunk lid blasting it myself. Looked great at first until I primed it , laid down some guidecoat and started sanding. Then it was obvious I messed up. The method you used for yours sounds like a better option. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for your comment!

    • @GroundhogzGarage

      @@g3garage If done improperly, yes, it can warp your panels. Some industrial places use 180psi and pour the coal to’er, so to speak. 100 psi and taking your time, won’t warp your panels. I’ve done it multiple times and have never warped a panel. But regardless, I look forward to watching you move forward.

      It's in the process of being restored. So far, all new suspension and steering components, new fuel system, new brakes, etc. I have a video started for the new Motorealm front nose installation. Should have that posted in the next few weeks. Thanks for your comment.
