It is really cool to be able to hear the phone talk and it’s original voice it sounds very sick actually and it sounds like it has a very raspy voice almost sounds like a smokers voice it’s really cool to hear the things that we had back then now we think they are pretty cheesy with the way that things are now because our technology has gotten so much forward in the modern day iPhone compared to the old vintage iPhone 5s it’s pretty interesting to compare
honestly I have an iPhone 5s and I use it for capturing pictures like taking pics oglf nature and some lessons in class. I also use it for communication like using social media apps and playing music on Spotify. she's a goodie to be brought anywhere for I could hide it easily on my hand cuz I have a big hand and yeah it's small. it's kinda bit laggy sometimes but yeah, good to use as a backup phone or emergency phone when your phone is dead on battery.

I recently upgraded from iPhone SE (2016) to iPhone 14. Although it’s sad ios16 doesn’t welcome the older phone, it still work wonders. Although I need to replace its battery some day coz it drains too fast (82% health as of this writing). Then i recently found my 1st iPhone, the og 5. Too bad the latest OS supported is ios10. Amazed I was able to upgrade from ios 8 from when I last use it, after I get the battery (which bloated) and LCD replaced (thanks to bloated battery), and it works fine for its age. Able to use google maps, FB and messenger. Sad I can’t use youtube as it only shows error messages. I can use this as a music player even if this is at 16gb storage. 😊 i hope i can ressurect my old ipod 4th gen’s LCD and battery. 😂
Yeah UA-cam needlessly shut down UA-cam for iOS 10 in 2022. I think if you jailbreak it you can get it to work again. I had it working even on iOS 7 in 2022. But you can always use the website.
I didn’t. It only worked on Wi-Fi for some reason?? I am with Tello, a T-Mobile MVNO. This was a Sprint iPhone 5S. If I had an unlocked one, I wonder if it would have worked?
@@zircoben Mine was with AT&T and I had it unlocked through their website. Put my SIM in from Xfinity Mobile (Verizon MVNO) and it didn't work. This is likely because AT&T uses GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. I'm wondering if these work at all anymore, even if they are compatible with the network.
@@zircoben I’m not too sure but I think the reason it’s not able to make calls is because of the recent retiring of 3G, which this iPhone still relied on for calls, despite it being an LTE enabled phone. However, when the iPhone 6 came out it introduced VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) which allowed it to make calls over LTE instead of 3G. Tello discontinued their 3G in June 2022, which means that any iPhone older than the iPhone 6, won’t be able to make calls on data, because they relied on 3G for calls only.
Believe it or not with a majority of the apps they work fine if your willing to jump a few hoops you can eaither take the ipa and change the version or jailbreak the device and modify the app version that it thinks it is
@@zircoben Obviously that same could be tried with any smartphone, but the disadvantages of the 5S become advantages, when you are trying to limit your internet use. It doesn't support most of the Apps that are the target of a digital detox, (meaning you won't keep looking for a hotspot to use them) but does support useful life enhancing apps (music, maps - including Organic maps, which is great offline - etc.) The small screen means you won't be tempted to find a hotspot to use the web, unless it is important. Also the size means it is easy to forget you have it with you. The big things you are always aware of, which won't help with a detox.
Long story short the iPhone 5S cant run iOS 16, 15, 14, or even 13, which means that this both isnt and is usable in 2023 because it can still run some apps but the latest version of UA-cam requires iOS 14 and iPhone 5s cannot run iOS 14
That’s not really a problem, unless you want the latest apps. But later apps will have more bloatware and spyware. I have found nearly all the apps I need to use.

Yeah, it's a neat little phone but definitely we have made huge advancements since then. Heck, i'd even say between the 5S and the 6S was a huge jump - the 6S is still useable today, for all intents and purposes. If you're on an X, XR, XS, 11... those are still excellent phones still except for demanding tasks.
@@zircoben so true. I remember having the 6 and 6s pluses both. Now I am with the iPhone 14 plus and that thing is amazing . She takes work and it is no problem. I iPhone 14 plus’s name is Ellie. I still have that 5s and I use on occasions but not when I am in my daily use. Either for an iPod or just messing around on the web for a measure time. The iPhone 14 plus though is my daily driver. She is a fast worker. From the 5s to the 6 and 6s series yes. It was a huge leap forward. They introduced if you remember the peak and pop feature and everyone was crazy about that even myself. Then with time those juestures with time and updates went away. We are now in high demand for work processing and their is where the 14 series comes in.
@@benjaminbrown5245 Oh yeah, the 3D touch stuff on the iPhone 6S! Such a solid little phone! I'm glad you are enjoying the 14 Plus so much, it's a beast, and the battery in there is on another level.
@@zircoben you know it is so funny how I look back and when I pick up the 5s how old it is but the nostalgia of using a smart phone from that time I mean for human years it was not to long ago, but for a phone it is more than ancient. Well, even for us 2013 was some time ago and years have flown. But when I look at it even back then we thought the speaker sounds great or did sound great but using the big beast of an iPhone 14 plus I listen and it is like on a totally different level. And just like you said my friend. Even from the 5s to the 6 and 6s series they were on a totally different level. Now as I skipped many generations of iPhones, to get to the best iPhone 14 series, it really amazes me. Back in its day the 5s felt like a work horse but in today’s standards it is crap hahahahahahahahaha the battery sucks now but that is because we expect so much now days then before. A lot of time we say that the old phone has slowed down but really has it??? Or is it just us really speeding up in society when the old iPhones really have kept their same speed. It just feels slow to us so that is why we say an old iPhone is slow but it is us that is what I think that is why we say our old smart phones are slow cause we expect fast pace and high speed today compared to back then. Is this true do you think? Hey man I did sub to your channel and I just got back from a meeting. I double checked my subs and I did sub to your channel. I hope that you make more content on old phones and what it is like to use them even the 4s if you have it, but yea. To us our old iPhones are very slow and they sure feel like it but that was the speed we had back then. We are wired to think fast and got it have work flow fast these days. Even now if I even tried to use the iPhone 5s today in daily work it wouldn’t get me far hahahahahaha. I need a fast and here I am saying it myself we need fast phones today to keep up with society. And work flow. Tell me if this is correct. I am just like you man got to treasure the old friend. I still have the 5s on a charger so it won’t die for when I use it. It is so nostalgic just picking it up and just the tasks that it does it gets warm and hearing the raspy voice from voiceover is just so emotional. It really did feel like a 16 gig iPhone held a lot which back it its day did. You could really fit a lot of apps on just a 16 gig because the app size was not like it is today. Even if you tried today to find a 16 gig iPhone brand new, I don’t think you could. Maybe on eBay. But I don’t know. In the smart phone world now days their is no such thing as a 16 gig iPhone. But man correct me if I am wrong about this. Love your passion and your channel. It really brought me back to the exciting day of 2013 or year I should say. That was an interesting year but a good one and pretty exciting.
The only problem is those giant bezels. Maybe if I never used an all screen phone. I wouldn’t have mind them. I’m just shocked we’ve used phones with top and bottom bezels that huge back in the day.
Well back then we only really tried to improve the user display, flip phones to slide out keyboards then eventually we had blackberrys and touchscreen - samsung
I still use mine fine, compared to my s9+ my 5s is pretty decent as I did have a 13 and x prior as well for an s20fe 5g I found the 5s usable and the s9+ very good so much so that I swapped to it as a daily, I use my 5s rarely to catch up on media or games but I don't carry it with me much the camera is alright for facetime but I wouldn't take an impressive photo with it unless I had brang it with me listing to music or something running errands, it doesn't last long maybe 5 hours if your lucky and a game doesn't kill your battery within a half hour i tried playing minecraft and apart from slow loading this phone is pretty darn good as a basic throw away to the classic flip burners I mean I'm not complaining even if its an outdated 5s
I basically use it for as if it were an ipod, reminds me of when I had like several ipod 2s laying around, those nanos were a blast too.. the 5s amd 6 hold a place in my heart not just for one of there best design, features support, or performances but because they were the first two iphones I ever saved up to buy with my own hard earned money, I probably broke like 20 5s and 6 together that's why I have to use samsing ot made kid me poor
the iPhone 5s THE BEST iphone apple ever made you realy can beat on it trow it away be hard on it only the screen will break that's it 😂 watching youtube in 1080p 60fps no problem super smooth for a 10 year old device keep that in mind use mine every day more fun than my 13 pro max 😂
The 3G network is not shut down. I have an app on my jailbroken SE that shows the time each network is used. About half of my talk time and data comes from 3G. They just wanted to force us out. Bunch of liars!
Yeah, it's true! Maybe I shouldn't have done that but I don't think much has changed with this experience in the last year and it's still relevant in 2024.
Nothing will be like the iPhone 5s actually the iPhone 5s was my very first iPhone when it came out in 2013 that was T-Mobile‘s second iPhone T-Mobile came in on the five that iPhone 5s actually is a wonderful phone although it is old now but it still does what it needs to do I would highly turn people away from using it as a daily driver and that it works too slow for our modern day Aero but it is not garbage at all it’s a good phone and it has sentimental value which means it was the first iPhone to have touch ID
I actually for my daily driver have the iPhone 14+ I when I had the iPhone 6 Plus and then the following year the 6S plus I was very close to turning the iPhone 5s back into T-mobile but then something stopped me and told me not to do it why? The reason is is because, I actually realized that it was my very first iPhone and eventually it would go down in history which it did and now it’s a very vintage phone I would say it’s actually older than vintage but that’s the interesting thing about having an old phone like I said I would highly not use it as your number one phone because it’s not gonna do the job in today’s society but the second phone or back up phone A lot of apps do not work on it but the ones that do work OK it still does make calls I actually can still use the iPhone 5s to make calls on my carrier with T-Mobile it actually amazingly still works but the iPhone 5s is actually gold it’s actually a treasure a lot of people think that vintage technology is crap or junk but it really is not it is something to be valued actually and I’m glad I kept it
@@zircoben doesn’t it just make you tear up with emotion just to bring out that phone and use it when you can? I mean I remember that being my first iPhone and I got it when it came out back then i knew that it was going to make me become so much more independent and I would never look at phones the. Same. As a blind adult tech is so crucial and I love it. I am a tech guy anyways but I remember using phones before then and i would have to rely on others to assist me with getting ringtones on the phone and their numbers. I couldn’t text without getting overage charges from t-mobile. That was back in the day. Now they don’t do those things anymore thank god hahaha but when I got on with the iPhone 5s that phone changed me completely. To make a long story short when the 6 plus came out, I got it and was almost ready to turn in the 5s to t-mobile when I snapped inside and told myself “stop!!! What are you doing man!!! This was your first iPhone do not give it back to t-mobile. Keep it and someday down the line you will want to put in a cam card and use it again.” Well, that is what I told myself. I kept it in. A drawer and hadn’t used it for a long long time. Then something in me told me to go to the t-mobile store and ask for another cym card. I asked the rep to put in another card and it works. It still was receiving updates and it needed one. Now,,,, yearns and years later it doesn’t no longer update even with security updates, but that is even the more treasure able thing about this phone. It makes me tear up to use it. Feeling how hard it works and knowing that i still have a first generation Touch ID iPhone. If you had to compare the 5s to the 6 even. It is like night and day. Now comparing the 6s series even is not even a comparison. Now you look at the modern iPhone we have today the 14 series and it is not even comparable. Some people say the we is like the 5s but it is not. Nothing will bee like the O.G. And i am so glad I got the 5s. The iPhone S.E. Series is like a super hot rod version of the iPhone 5s it is like taking an old mustang car and putting modern accessories in it. It totally changes the car when you do that and it is not O.G. Well, I can say that I have an O.G. Of an iPhone and it is cool to have it. With the vintage iPhone now, I can still make calls from it. It still works on t-mobile. T-mobile told me that as long as the tours and cell connectivity work I can still make calls from it. The thing I can’t do with it anymore is update the software but as far as making phone calls. It still works. Doesn’t sound at all like the phone today but eexpecting something modern from a 10 going on 11 year old smart phone is funny to ask of it cause it is for sure not going to sound the same. Even listening to music on the single grill speaker that it has. Back then it sounded great but now it sounds cheesy. But that is what we get from old smart phones. It sounded kind of metallic where as now with the modern iPhone it actually sounds like a mini theater system. But with the old smart phone it sounded almost metallic. With the music. No base or anything hahaha. But that is the nostalgic thing about owning an old smart phone. But don’t you feel the same way, like it has centimental value and doesn’t it make you tear up a little when using it? Their is just something about making an old smart phone work again. Just the way it sounds now, and the way it does tasks. It is so hard for it to do now even just unlocking the phone. It gets warm. It is working so hard just to do something that the modern iPhone can do no problem. For me it is emotional. And yes. The old iPhone is actually working today. I have not removed the cym card out of it. I left it this time. It is plugged in and on its charger now as I am writing this. Where as the modern iPhone it takes the voice and it sounds so human like now. Punctuations. And all that. Where as listening to the old smart phone talking it sounds so robotic. And it has a totally different vibe to it. Listening to an old iPhone talking it is priceless.
this is the best iphone design

Thank you for checking out my video! Please let me know if you have any thoughts about the iPhone 5S, and your memories (good and bad!) with the phone. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
If I use this as a secondary phone for things like phone calls and text messages it should work till 4g shut down right ?
@@inajpsparejoy6430 In my experience, it already doesn’t work.
I love to hear that!! That’s so cool that you are still finding uses for the phone, even so many years later. The size of it is so dang good, isn’t it??
can you make calls or use imessage?
Still using it 😩😩😩even rn
I love it.
Heck yeah! Congrats man!
can you make calls or use imessage?
@@John-cq8tican you make calls or use imessage?
i have 5s just third phone, using for basic tasks and it's running on ios 10.3.1. what you think gues should i update it on latest software or just live it? :))
I am actually using this phone right now and yes it is very warm but not like it’s going to burn up it won’t do that but it does get hot because of the processor but it’s really cool to be using a vintage phone
And yes,,the video is absolutely wonderful
Thanks man!! That means a lot.
I still have this phone. Now i realised how small this phone is😆
It's TINY! lol
Nice video! Were you able to connect it to your network and make calls? If so, who is your provider?
@@ocoe5528 That makes perfect sense! Thank you for hopping in and making that clear.
Oh. interesting! Mine was fully up to date, and I was also using Tello?@@stanleymeasaw9004
Believe it or not with a majority of the apps they work fine if your willing to jump a few hoops you can eaither take the ipa and change the version or jailbreak the device and modify the app version that it thinks it is
Oh, interesting!
Great content, bro 🙏❤️
Thanks a ton, bro!
This phone (with suitable settings) plus a phone/SMS only SIM would be an ideal wanting for anyone wanting a feature phone (eg for a digital detox)
I love this! I’ve had the same idea!
Exactly! It's a shame, but it also is a 10 year old phone at this point 😂
That’s not really a problem, unless you want the latest apps. But later apps will have more bloatware and spyware. I have found nearly all the apps I need to use.
@@lioncurlewbonjour, j’aimerai retrouver des anciennes versions d’applications de tournage vidéo comme Filmic pro par exemple pour cet iPhone 5S, vous pensez que c’est possible en évitant les fausses applications ou autre virus ? Cordialement
I'd love one of these with the latest chipset in it.
Oh for sure, me too!
Can you use stock apps ? For example reminders, calendar or maps.
Yes, those work!
Can we use this phone to watch UA-cam videos? Or it will ask to update?
got a iphone se 2016 upgraded version of 5s sadly not supported by ios 16 but it does good job in like heavy gaming or normal use
battery lasts like 5H there
Wow, that’s awesome! I should check out that phone too!
Iphone se better, im right? Bc see got ios 15 and better bionic chip then 5s just got 12

All things are okay on this phone but I don’t like its finger print sensor it won’t work perfectly somtimes otherwise best mobile
I need a backup phone to make phone calls, can i still put my old iphone 5s on a carrier? If so, what carriers in the U.S still support the iPhone 5s? My iPhone is fully unblocked and says it can be put on 4g LTE or just LTE but can't make wifi calls because I have to contact Metro PCS. Please help!
I put my SIM in it and it didn’t work. You might be out of luck with that. I know the first generation SE still works though.
Bro, i just need to say first, sorry for my english (im turkish and i cant speak wery wellll :)
I want bought 12 mini in september/october, should i bought for a long time using or wait collecting more money for 13 mini i rly want 13 mini tho
Why do you want the 'mini' phones ?
The size is sublime
😢 it’s pretty interesting to use this phone in 2023 I do however have my iPhone 14+ that I just bought the iPhone 5s is very old now but you can still use it you can’t use the bank app or anything on it because all the apps need to be updated and it is on its last software
It's true - the bezels are insane on it. Outside of that, it's such a gorgeous phone still!
How much time it gets with a 100% charge?
It would only last an hour to an hour and a half.
mine is the golden too
Heck yeah!
I'm still using 5s!! But the camera and touchID are broken and it's no longer fixable😭
Oh wow. Bravo to you!
Do you use Spotify on it?

No, i'm on my own for that stuff!
Thanks for the Gospel Library 😇

the iPhone 5s THE BEST iphone apple ever made you realy can beat on it trow it away be hard on it only the screen will break that's it 😂 watching youtube in 1080p 60fps no problem super smooth for a 10 year old device keep that in mind use mine every day more fun than my 13 pro max 😂
It's such a great phone!
Wouldn't the best iPhone be the original SE? Same advantages but a better spec.
Does facebook and messenger or messaging app still work?😊
As far as I could tell, no. I didn’t test those exact apps, but most of them didn’t work.
I have messenger on mine , works well , but facebook only works through the WFI on a browser , but works fine there .
@@peterberry7421 thanks for the update. Always have loved this phone and am thinking of getting one.😊
The 3G network is not shut down. I have an app on my jailbroken SE that shows the time each network is used. About half of my talk time and data comes from 3G. They just wanted to force us out. Bunch of liars!
Good to know! So they just don’t support the phone? With me trying to use it on T-Mobile it was WiFi only.
this ip5s still work in 2024 ? like media sosial
I wouldn't recommend it. Most apps aren't updated anymore for it since it runs iOS 12.
The 5s its death but its still usselles but not anymore faster like 2013 replace them for SE 2016 and that its been better option😊

Plot twist: The 5s is shit now, get a new phone
What?!
The reason is is because, I actually realized that it was my very first iPhone and eventually it would go down in history which it did and now it’s a very vintage phone I would say it’s actually older than vintage but that’s the interesting thing about having an old phone like I said I would highly not use it as your number one phone because it’s not gonna do the job in today’s society but the second phone or back up phone A lot of apps do not work on it but the ones that do work OK it still does make calls I actually can still use the iPhone 5s to make calls on my carrier with T-Mobile it actually amazingly still works but the iPhone 5s is actually gold it’s actually a treasure a lot of people think that vintage technology is crap or junk but it really is not it is something to be valued actually and I’m glad I kept it
@@benjaminbrown5245Totally agree! It's a neat little phone, and sure it sucks to actually USE it but it's an amazing device for what it is.
